Have you ever felt a baby kick? Yes, when my mom was pregnant with my brother. What color pants/shorts are you wearing? I’m only wearing a duster gown; no shorts underneath. I just got it last night, actually - my mom wanted to donate clothes to victims of a recent fire incident in Manila and so she asked my sister and I to sort through our closets for clothes we were willing to give away. My sister ended up giving away a comfy-looking duster gown that she never even wore and even smelled brand new to boot. It ended up in my hands, ha. But apart from that we gave away a lot of stuff that aren’t old uniforms or costumes (which is what most people tend to ‘donate’, ugh), so we just hope they end up with people who really need them. When is the last time you did something truly fun, and what was it? Last night I went on our org’s Discord server and we played Jackbox games for around an hour or so. It was my first time to socialize again after around two months and I really, really needed that moment. I even met the org’s newest roster of applicants for this semester, which was neat. :) What was the scariest moment of your life? Men terrorizing me or near-car crashes I’ve had.

Pancakes or flapjacks? I guess pancakes, since I don’t even know what flapjacks are. What kind of computer are you on? It’s a laptop. Do you eat Chinese food? If so, what's your favorite dish? For sure. Pork buns or minced pork with eggplant. With century egg on the side, yum. What are you usually doing at midnight? Either passed out or desperately trying to sleep because I don’t want to lose any more hours of sleep and risk being cranky for the whole of the next day. Have you ever developed feelings for a friend, but you were already with someone? No. The worst thing that’s happened was being someone’s ball date (and unbeknownst to me, they apparently had feelings for me at the time) while I was already with someone. If so, how did it turn out? He figured it out by himself, which I still feel bad about. But the timing was super off and I just couldn’t find a moment to sit him down and set the record straight...ah well. It was just super complicated at the time. Give me your brief definition of love. My favorite love-related quote is “Love never says ‘I have done enough’” and for the longest time, that has been my guiding principle when it comes to it. Definitely a tad bit cheesy, but telling myself that over and over makes it easier to continue loving the people I care for and be patient with them when they’re being asses. Resorting to physical violence. I was a kid constantly exposed to violence in my old home, and at the time I genuinely thought that’s how most things were settled or pacified. I still feel like shit about it to this day, and my backstory isn’t an excuse at all; but the past is the past and I’ve been trying to make up for it by being a much more gentle angry person in the last few years. Are there any pills you take on a daily basis? If so, what? Nope. Do you like the smell of coconuts? For some reason I can’t stand anything coconut (which is a damn shame considering I’m Filipino) but I love dishes with heaps of coconut milk in them, like curry. That’s the one coconut-related thing I enjoy, but otherwise I’ve never learned to appreciate the taste and smell of buko juice, coconut shavings, coconut pies, and everything else coconut. What is the heaviest you think you can lift? From what my old PE class showed me, around 70 to 80 lbs. Do you take Tums? Idk what that is so I guess I don’t. Have you ever walked on a pier at the beach? I’m not sure if I’ve been to a pier before. I bet it feels wonderful and freeing and I’d love to visit one; but I also can’t keep myself from associating piers with the recurring image of Jennifer Connelly’s character standing on one from Requiem for a Dream. How about under one? No. At what age do you first remember feeling butterflies in your stomach around someone? Not sure if it was 11 or 12, but it was definitely one of those years. Do you feel that way around anyone now? Yeah, if they allowed me to see them. But I’m shut out now so I haven’t had that sensation in a while.

What kind of cheese do you prefer, if you like cheese? Mozzarella and feta are my faves, but I love cheese and am willing to be adventurous when it comes to it. I don’t exactly have the best track record when it comes to keeping fish as pets. How about a farm animal? Probably pig. So, do you have hoes in different area codes? No, and ew. Haven’t been exposed to a lot of new music lately and the songs I do get to hear on the radio whenever I drive are actually pretty good. This totally doesn’t answer your question but my favorites so far have been Birthday by Disclosure, Kehlani, and Syd; and Plain by Benee, Lily Allen, and Flo Milli. What is a song that you hate to admit you like? Any Kanye song I like. What inspires you to get off your bum and do something productive? Not wanting to go into another downward spiral. Do you ever use Urban Dictionary? Extremely rarely. I only do when there’s a new slang I’m completely unfamiliar with. Do you find the definitions on there to be generally funny or stupid? Stupid for the most part. I find them too immature or vulgar, but that’s one of the points of the website so I guess I’m just not in their target audience lol. What comes to your mind when you hear the word 'transformation'? Uh, the Transformer robots.

What was something you regularly played with as a child? My cousins’ toy soldiers.

Have you ever given in to peer pressure? Eh, a few times. If so, what did you do? I’ve been pulled to drinking sessions here and there when I really shouldn’t be drinking because I had an important test tomorrow or something else was happening the next day that was just as significant. What part of your body have you had the most problems with in your life? Teeth, I’m pretty sure. I’ve had braces, needed a tooth extracted, gotten a cavity, and gone through a severe toothache.

Do a lot of people check you out when you're in public? Idk I never look around because being aware of it would just freak me out and make me feel like I’m naked. What is a good name for a turtle? Would depend on their personality. And this applies to all kinds of pets, at least for me. I don’t decide on their names until I have a good grasp of their attitude. Can you imitate any accents well? If so, which one(s)? Stereotypical Filipino mom and valley girl. Do you like having your ear nibbled on? Sure. What makes a good kisser a good kisser? I’ve only kissed one person so I’m not the best judge for this; but I always like it when my lower lip is tugged or grazed on. How many times a year do you have a family thing? Are you watching your weight? Not really. I’m trying to gain pounds though, if anything. I haven’t eaten much in the last two months. after recording down their orders, you returned back to the kitchen to prepare them

on the way back, juyeon stopped you

“aren’t they cute?? y/n you need to agree with me on this one, they look like idols!!” bahahah

you giggled and nodded, returning to the back to get out their orders, decorating them

using your amazing artistry, you lined the plates with chocolate syrup, adding a little flower to daniels plate before placing the cakes strategically in the middle

once juyeon served them their orders you could hear seongwoo whine about not getting a flower, and daniel smiling really widely, his eyes creasing upwards into crescents

from the little glass window of your kitchen, you could feel your heart flutter as daniel takes a bite of your cake, smiling in delight

you felt your own cheeks burning crimson at any minor yet adorable action he makes

after that, daniel would return more often, usually after school, sometimes without seongwoo

he also matches up his arrivals to your work days

juyeon always makes you serve him, just to watch your trip on your words or turn pink at his small remarks

you would take note of his orders, usually a mini strawberry shortcake with a latte

on his sixth trip to the café, you decided to draw a really detailed heart on the top of the latte with his initials near the bottom

once the drink was served, by juyeon as you were busy with other orders, you took a sneak peek at daniel’s usual seat, which was in a corner

but he wasn’t there

you were quite curious, taking a step closer to the kitchen window to have a better look, making sure your eyes weren’t playing tricks on you

from a distance behind you, you heard daniel’s voice near the counter,

“oh, it’s not me~” juyeon said, pointing to you, a girl with cat ears leaning way too close to the kitchen window

you slowly turned your head, to see daniel and juyeon both staring at you

Redmi Note 7 review: Price win means software sin

Redmi is the more affordable arm of Xiaomi. Yes, we know that Xiaomi is pretty cheap compared to the likes of Samsung and Google, but Redmi is even cheaper.

With Xiaomi being fairly new to the UK, Redmi devices slot in beneath in terms of specs, which explains the more affordable pricing. Having split itself off into a separate brand, you can expect to hear more from the company as it fights for mid-range market space.

Somewhat confusingly, the Redmi Note 7 that we have in the UK is the same spec as the Redmi Note 7S in India - so there's some variance in naming on these devices.

A quality design and finish Gorilla Glass 5 Rear fingerprint scanner 159.2 x 75.2 x 8.1mm; 186g The Redmi Note 7 looks like a lot of recent Xiaomi designs. Edge-to-edge glass on the front and back sits in a central waistband, using Gorilla Glass 5 to try and keep scratches to a minimum. In the weeks we've been using the phone, it's escaped any damage.

At 8.1mm it's slim, too, and the size is pretty well proportioned, squeezing in a display without excessive bezel and using a dewdrop notch for the front camera. The bezel is a little thicker at the bottom of the display, so it's not quite symmetrical, but there's little to complain about.

redmi note 7 The ear speaker sits along the top of the display, and a pair of grilles on the bottom house the mono loudspeaker and flank the USB Type-C connector. The single speaker is easy to cover with a hand if you're a game, so it doesn't really contribute much to proceedings - you're better using headphones, and there's a 3.5mm jack included - but the Xiaomi Mi 9 is basically in the same position of being a bit weedy with speaker performance.

On the rear is a fingerprint sensor, conventionally placed with Redmi retaining this older style rather than a fancier in-display scanner, presumably to keep the price down.

But most of the attention will be taken by colouration. The Remdi Note 7 joins the ranks of those devices offering a dual-tone finish (well, if you opt for the blue model - other markets get red (i.e. the Note 7S in India) which doesn't seem to be an option in the UK). If you want something a little more conservative your choice is black.

redmi note 7 There's little to complain about from a design point of view. There are plenty of devices more costly than this that don't look any better, so from that perspective buying this cheaper phone doesn't get you a cheaper finish.

Display and dimming woes 6.3-inch LCD display, 19.5:9 aspect ratio 2340 x 1080 pixels (409ppi) As we said, there's minimal notch thanks to a central dewdrop - which really takes up very little space on the display. The screen's resolution is great, with the 409ppi density telling us that it's pretty sharp - and in use that's true, so you won't feel like you're missing out on detail. Sure, flagships offer Quad HD+ resolution, but the slightly lower offering from this Redmi works just fine.

The colouration of the display is pretty good, too. It's vibrant enough to not raise too many concerns, but it looks a little lacklustre alongside the gloriously-saturated OLED panels found in higher-spec devices. Things might look a little less punchy, but it's not a huge problem, and given the price you can't complain too much.

redmi note 7 But the auto-brightness is irritating. Frequently when looking at the phone it will dim to obscurity so you can barely see anything. You might be in the middle of a game and the screen dims. Fortunately there's a shortcut to turn off auto-brightness - most of the time it's better to control it manually.

The Redmi Note 7 also exhibits one of the traits of cheaper display panels: a linear polarising layer. That means that if you have polarising sunglasses, the display will black out completely when in landscape orientation - so when you're using the camera it's irritating - but only a problem for those wearing polarising lenses. Aside from such quirks, however, this Redmi actually offers a fairly good display for the price point.

Core hardware and battery life Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 platform 3/4GB + 32/64GB RAM + microSD 4000mAh battery capacity The Redmi Note 7 sits on one of Qualcomm's mid-range platforms. Things are a little confusing in these regards, so let's explain: while the 800 series used in flagship phones has one distinct hot favourite - the Snapdragon 855 - further down the range there are a lot of different component sets in the 600 and 700 series, used across a range of different devices.

redmi note 7 The good news is that, really, there's not a huge marked difference in day-to-day performance of many of these different platforms. Yes, the 660 doesn't have the snap and satisfaction of the leading hardware that you'll get in something like the Xiaomi Mi 9, but it's more than powerful enough to handle most tasks.

This includes things like playing PUBG Mobile in balanced settings - the Redmi won't play so well when you crank up the settings, but we've got plenty of chicken dinners out of it. Generally, however, the performance is great and we've come a long way from mid-range devices feeling compromised as they did a few years ago. We said the same of the Moto One Vision, which uses Samsung's Exynos processor and is also impressively smooth.

Where you do see some reduced potency from the Redmi, however, is in the camera performance. When processing night photos, for example, this handset takes noticeably longer than more powerful devices.

redmi note 7 Perhaps the most exciting part of the spec sheet is the 4000mAh battery capacity. That's pretty generous for a phone of this physical size and market positioning. In our experience it will outlast many flagship phones, getting you through the day without too much of a problem. There's fast wired charging for getting back up to 100 per cent too. It won't challenge the Moto G7 Power when it comes to battery capacity, though, that being a phone which is a considerable rival to the Redmi.

Software woes MIUI over Android 9 Pie software Software is the weakest part of Xiaomi's handsets, thus the Redmi picks up this downside too. The entire device is skinned with MIUI - click that link for an explainer of what that's all about - which sits over Google's Android 9 Pie operating system.

redmi note 7 MIUI introduces a high degree of replacement and duplication of applications, which a fully-functioning Google account doesn't need. In China, of course, Redmi runs MIUI without all the Google functions that those of us in the UK (or the rest of the world) are used to using. That explains a lot of the duplication, so while it's irksome, it's acceptable given the affordable pricing - and you can probably do some fiddling to get the device back to a cleaner state.

The great thing about Android is that you can install or replace things - and pick the default apps you want - to spare yourself some of the messing around with alternatives that just aren't as good (or ask you to sign-up for a Mi account when you already have a Google account performing functions like backup and contacts management).

In the case of the Redmi Note 7, however, we've also found the software to be buggy, despite the company saying it's a stable build. We've found the reading mode coming on every evening when it's not scheduled to do so, for example. We've told it not to wake the display when notifications come in and it still does - often randomly. Sometimes the handset refuses to see a Bluetooth device and connect to it - other times it's seamless.

redmi note 7 That detracts from the experience. Which is a shame, as the experience can, at times, be perfectly fine. But it's not consistent. It's this which would make us lean towards other affordable rivals with a cleaner software experience, such as Motorola.

A reasonable camera 48MP main camera & 5MP secondary lens 13MP front camera The latest trend in smartphones is deploying a 48-megapixel sensor, with Sony's IMX and Samsung's alternative sensor options being snapped up by all manner of brands. That number might sound like a reintroduction of the megapixel race, but by default both of these sensors use four pixels to produce one, over-sampling for sharper results at 12-megapixels. You can engage the 48MP option manually in the menu if you want, but the headline figure isn't really a reflection of what you'll get from this phone camera

There are a range of shooting options on the Redmi Note 7, including a decent portrait mode and night shooting too. These modes are capable, but not class-leading, as you'd expect at the price point.

Amusingly, the Redmi is a dual camera system, but from what we can tell the second lens does nothing at all. You can't shoot through that lens as there's no wide-angle or zoom offering, while you can cover it up and still take a portrait mode photo, find depth and create that bokeh. Ok, it might be adding some data somewhere, but it seems largely irrelevant.

The camera really favours shooting in good lighting, which is standard for any camera. When the light drops a little, results get quite dull and can look a little flat. Equally, HDR (that's high dynamic range) scenes can look a little dull. This phone doesn't have the subtlety or balance that others offer in that regard.

Night mode isn't really in the same league as its rivals either - like the Huawei P30 Pro or the Google Pixel 3 - but then this Redmi phone is considerably cheaper. Still, low-light image noise is common and results just get mushy, not offering the same exposure lift and noise reduction as its more pro rivals.

The front camera - once you've turned off the mirror and beauty options so you actually look like yourself - tends to be a little washed out. It loses grip on colour and in every selfie we've taken, we've had to tweak the colour temperature to remove the deathly-looking caste (which is easy to do on the phone, so it's not a huge problem, not that it's something we want to be doing).

Verdict The Redmi Note 7 is a bit of a mixed bag. Yes, you get a perfectly usable phone and for the price it's compelling thanks to a great build, a camera that will take a decent photo, enough power to do most things, and a long-lasting battery.

But there's so much getting in the way of the experience. We accept software skins, but it's annoying when the phone is doing things you've toggled off and specifically told it not to do. Those things can be fixed through software updates, but they end up defining the experience. It's not the value for money that shines through - it's the unnecessary software tinkering that then doesn't really work properly.

There are definitely things about the Redmi Note 7 that make it worthy of consideration, but with competition like the Moto G7 Power, we're drawn to Motorola's simpler option - especially with the added bonus that it will last a lot longer.

Serving of Tea #4: The last stretch

Hello everyone!

I know it's been forever, apologies for this utter lack of updates. I am not dead yet, and I have been working on Sylvan Disappearance all the while.

It has been pretty challenging, though. It's also not over yet. I've had a pretty busy semester school-wise with a certain research project, and working on both a visual novel and my research consistently has been……… pretty difficult. I think I fared well enough, overall? Well, I still have some amount of work ahead of me.

At the same time, part of why this whole VN development thing took so long is because I didn't want to cut too much on sleep, social time, down time. For the most part, I have succeeded in this regard! Yeah for healthy habits!

Besides, I can announce that the scripting process of Sylvan Disappearance is now complete! This is the last stretch, finally.

Here is a brief description of what remains to be done:

Going through a last editing pass

I still haven't read the VN from back to back myself, and I absolutely need to do so! For the sake of editing the text itself to a satisfying level of course, but also to ensure the internal coherence of the story and to polish the general presentation.

I ended up changing a number of core scenes during scripting, and if I do not ensure that the whole narrative is consistent, some parts might feel somewhat strange in the final result.

I might also cut down on the length of certain scenes! The story currently sits at a little over 45 000 words, which is actually quite a lot. I promised myself that I would not hesitate in cutting down where possible, if appropriate. We'll see.

Soo, yeah, the whole thing definitely goes a bit further than a mere editing pass.

Some amount of external testing

It's tempting to skip this step, but I know I shouldn't!

In the field of game developement, it's usually recommended to test early and frequently. This generally holds true for parser- or choice-based interactive fiction.

I am not sure of the applicability of this idea to visual novels, though. Since they tend to be longer, and more linear —in short, more alike to regular novels— iterative testing doesn't seem as helpful. It usually doesn't make much sense to have someone read an incomplete draft, unless the projected length is very high, or specific feedback on a precise aspect is needed. (I'd be curious to hear the thoughts of other writers on the matter!)

At any rate, I'll be kindly asking a few friends for help regarding playtesting, I hope it will work out!

Correctly attributing every free-to-use asset in the story

This one is going to take more time than it appears.

As I explained in the past, I rely extensively on photographic backgrounds with permissive licenses for the story, and it will probably remains so for the foreseeable future. As you can imagine, this practice of reuse extends beyond backgrounds: all sound effects and music in the story are somehow free to use.

Whether or not they use a Creative Commons license (which explicitly requires attribution), the authors of all these resources ask to be credited for their work, as they rightly should be.

I always strive to be precise and exhaustive when attributing specific assets! It's basically the least I can do, and it's even very little in comparison with the real, hard work which went into the production of original music, sounds, photographs.

However, explicit and correct attribution is not that common. It might be because in the mind of creators and final users alike, there's something shameful or cheap in the act of relying in pre-existing work, which all ties into our expectations of high production values regarding digital works. This is of course very understandable, because commercial pressure requires market value. And there is obviously tremendous value in original art.

However, I genuinely believe that assets in the public domain or with permissive reuse licenses should be valued as sources of common wealth too. And this starts with rightly attributing these assets to the creators who kindly offered them to everyone. The Creative Commons non-profit offers us both a succint summary of good attribution and an in-depth look at the best practices for attribution. I highly recommend checking out the latter if you're interested in the topic!

The baseline is that good attribution does take a little time, but not too much. Ideally, the title, the author, the license and a link to the source should be included. There are no hard rules though, it is more of an general ethical recommendation. As stated in the page: “there is no one right way; just make sure your attribution is reasonable and suited to the medium you're working with. That being said, you still have to include attribution requirements somehow, even if it's just a link to an About page that has that info.”

The best practices page also acknowledges that attribution is harder in non-textual media, like games and videos, and suggests different methods of attribution.

I've personally settled with:

A succint summary of all the contributors on the itch.io page that will host the VN. It merely lists names by category.

This summary is also reported in the rolling credits at the end of the game.

An in-depth credits menu inside the game, accessible from the main menu at any time. Each track, sound and background is visible either with a thumbnail, or with an audio player. In all cases, the credits menu explicitly lists the author, the license, background information on the asset and a link to the source.

I won't lie, coding a credits menu takes a little time! I still think it's worth it, and I hope some players enjoy having a look at the assets that went into making the whole VN, and learn a few things about the numerous real-life locations and talents behind it all!

The credits menu itself is mostly coded now, though I still have to add the audio player for sounds and music, and to fill it with all the assets. I've also coded the rolling credits at the very end, and I similarly only need to fill them with the names of all the involved authors.

Attributing each asset with all the required information will take some time, though. It's relatively easy to get lost in the task, to spend hours tracking the source of each asset if it was not cleanly compiled somewhere prior to beginning. I learnt this lesson the hard way in the past.

For Sylvan Disappearance, I prepared myself correctly. I've been using a giant spreadsheet to keep track of each and every asset used in the course of the story, with all the required information easily accessible by column. I even added bookmarked assets that I did not intend to use at first, for easier reference in case they became useful. Here's a sneak peek:

Now all I have to do is reporting each and every line in the credits menu. It will take time, but it is doable!

A potential release date?

When will this VN finally come out? ...I... still can not say for sure.

This month, this much is certain! I am almost done with schoolwork, but I will most likely be busy again in the second half of April anyway. But overall, Sylvan Disappearance should be released by April 26 at the latest!

(Most likely, it will be released right before April 26.)

Chapter 218: XOXO Ye Cang was the first to arrive at their meeting place, outside the city hall. After a moment, Little Ye Tian also arrived. Since the treasurer was here, they didn’t have to keep waiting, more like there was no time to lose. Together, they entered. This place, besides serving some administrative functions, was also the place to buy and sell virtual property. Little Ye Tian walked while explaining everyone’s situation to Ye Cang. “I’m now a Prayer Knight. A’Xiong is currently still at the class change center. Apparently he might have unlocked a hidden branch class - War Priest. Lele is receiving training. Lil’Dino should be about done. Father how did your side go…” Ye Cang froze. It wasn’t quite fitting to say he went to a senior’s activity center, it would make him sound too modest. “The adventurers association, an organization that covers the entire continent. Yeah.” “Adventurers Association, I heard about it from the bishop. He said that the one in Black Rock Village is just a nursing home with a nice name. Right now, there’s only an elven ranger taking care of it. It’s mainly used by Rangers and Assassins and such…” Little Ye Tian explained, making Ye Cang feel rather awkward. “Cough~ Cough~ Don’t judge them by their age. When they were young, they were famous in Black Rock City. They even contributed in the battle between White Stone City and the Steel Empire.” Ye Cang tried to repeat the words Linda had told him, with a straight face and calm heart. “Moreover… we can steadily receive quests there. There are a lot…” “Oh, so that’s how it is. Then it’s not bad. A place to get quests.” Little Ye Tian nodded, choosing not to expose him. The adventurers association was really a place filled with all kinds of quests, however in Black Rock City, due to the previous generation’s years of bad operations, the new head hadn’t yet recovered it to it’s former glory. Not to mention the shortage in manpower, it had just all around declined. As for the headquarters, they were having a blast. There were so many applicants there that they couldn’t handle them all. She had some understand of most of the guilds. The city hall worker looked at Little Ye Tian’s Priest Medal, and became friendly. They then looked at Ye Cang’s adventurer medal, and grinned, looking down on him. “May I ask what miss paladin’s business might be?” Little Ye Tian inquired about buying an estate. The worker than guided them to the relevant receptionist. The looked over a city map, pointing out the unused shops. Altogether there were 5 large stores, 13 medium sized stores, as well as some small sized ones, however the price brought a frown to their faces. It was so expensive. They would still have some money left after buying a large one and a medium one. “Father, let’s buy these two large stores. This medium one can be given to Granny Rica and Little Jesse to be turned into a general store. As for the large ones, we don’t have the manpower. We can choose to rent them out or to hold onto it and wait for the market price to go up.” “You make the decision.” Ye Cang shrugged. Little Ye Tian straightforwardly squandered their money, signing the contract. “Congratulations! Here’s a mystery box as a gift!” The short haired receptionist said, handing them a wrapped gift box to Little Ye Tian. Little Ye Tian’s felt pleased. They even gave a mystery box as an extra reward. Who knew there would be this sort of bonus. She suddenly felt a chill down her back. Even without turning around, she could feel her father’s maddened gaze. It was the gaze he showed when he saw a treasure chest or boss corpse. His gaze drilled through her back, which was drenched in cold sweat, as if he could see the box in her hand, which now felt like a burning hot potato. She heard a creepy laugh from behind her, “Hand it over~~ Let me open it~~ My divine hand will get us a godly artifact. Little Tian~~ You’re a good girl~~” Little Ye Tian was now in a dilemma. This gift box would definitely have something good if opened normally. However, if it was given to her father… Truth be told, she didn’t believe it when they told her that her father’s was cursed. How could she accept them bad mouthing her father? She wouldn’t believe it unless she confirmed it herself. She had believed in his luck, expecting tada~ a divine artifact comes out, then all the people who said he was cursed would definitely get mad at her. However, it never happened like she expected. In fact, it was fake. All in her head. After many trials, she understood. What they said might be true. They weren’t lying, it was just she had refused to admit it… Little Ye Tian shook the distracting thoughts out of her head. Her father’s oppressive aura was approaching her step by step. She didn’t dare turn around. She gulped. Suddenly a shadow appeared behind her. “Little Tian! Hurry and run! Go find Lele!!!” Little Ye Tian heard the familiar voice. It was Lil’Dino! She looked at FrozenCloud who held onto Ye Cang tightly. “Hurry and run! Don’t worry about me!!” Little Ye Tian saw her father clawing and biting as if he was a zombie, and her little feet ran, carrying her away into the distance. Ye Cang quickly threw off FrozenCloud’s restriction. FrozenCloud heart sank as she saw him beginning to accelerate! However, a familiar figure entered her sight. “Sister Rose! Stop him! He discovered a chest!!!” ThornyRose’s ear twitched, then her instincts made her turn and pounce accurately at Ye Cang, pushing him to the ground where the two of them began wrestling. FrozenBlood broke out in cold sweat. Are you some trained animal? Your reacted the moment you heard the commands… Such an accurate pounce… As expected of you lovebirds. She began to take pictures and send them to Mr and Mrs Qin, along with the message, “The real Sister Zhen. They’re displaying their affection in public once again~~ xoxo~~” GreenDew froze, then blushed with shame seeing FrozenBlood’s blatant betrayal. She thanked god that she wasn’t her main target… She then turned and saw another woman coming. The gossip monster is here… As if sensing the situation, she had her movement skill activated and was running over at full speed to take a picture. The guild channel, social media, and various public chats suddenly had a new post, ‘Sister Rose and Brother Hero’s Undeniable Affair, Part 2’… Were these girls really her friends? ThornyRose figured it was about time, and let him go. “Right, back to the class… My Face!!!!” “Give me back my gift box!!” Ye Cang was still in a crazed state as he began biting ThornyRose’s face. It’s the counter attack! Team Leader finally fought back!! So scary!! FrozenCloud’s hairs stood on end as a chill ran through her bones. She quickly backed up and patted her chest. F**k! He dares to bite my face! The two of them began to wrestle again. It felt like they were watching a wrestling match between a female fighter and a werewolf. Suddenly, a message saying that the gift box had been opened by Lin Le arrived. Ye Cang collapsed, and no matter what ThornyRose put him through, he simply, absentmindedly muttered over and over, “My gift box, my face, my gift box, my face…” ElegantFragrance and FrozenBlood were about to betray her more, when ThornyRose’s berserk gaze came upon the two of them. Weekly news

New season, new fan art contest, this time celebrating the wonderful season of Spring. The contest will run for approximately 3 weeks ending on the 11th of April. In this time, you’ll be tasked with designing a main menu background similar to the Christmas fan art contest,, just instead of snow and Christmas presents, we’ll be (hopefully) seeing sakura blossoms and picnic baskets. Or whatever else happens in Spring wherever you live!

The Aspire 2017 contest voting is in it’s final moments, as voting closes very soon! Not long left now, so if you haven’t voted yet, or seen the amazing entries that this contest has birthed, we highly recommend taking some time to go have a look at the creativity of some of the communities finest mappers!

Around the community

On the topic of Aspire 2017, pishifat recently released a video talking a bit about the history of the beatmapping contest. The video goes over how the Aspire contests started and how they evolved throughout each rendition. The video touches over some rather interesting points both good and bad and also has a look at what’s to come. Definitely worth a watch if you want some valuable perspective and history on what’s behind all the Aspire hype!

We also got to the see the very artistic side of r3venger, a talented video editor in the community. His most recent, and arguably most impressive work, looks at the history of osu! and how it’s evolved from both a development and communal aspect. The video was done in an 8-bit style with some amazing animations and a very creative mind. Definitely worth the watch.

Rounding up the video goodness this week, we also have another mapping bytes video released by our lovable ztrot. With episode 5 looking at compressed streams and episode 6 looking at sliderstream jumps, ztrot continues on expanding upon the stream theme, this time taking a look at variable streams and what makes them tick, as well as how to use them.

We recently mentioned the osu!mania mentorship program accepting mentor applications - but the mentors need people to teach! Blocko has released a list of the mentors that will be taking part in the program, so if you’re interested in learning how to mod osu!mania maps in general from any of these highly skilled tutors, now might be just the chance you’ve been looking for. Decide fast, applications close this weekend on the 25th!

The Ranking Charts have been around for a very long time, longer than most of you can remember. Over the years, the system has changed extensively as the game and community have developed.This month though marks the next big step in the the future of the program - Spotlights.This new feature looks to bring in a lot more substance and interest for both mappers and players to the program, with brand new prizes, medals and much much more. While some parts of the new system aren’t ready to be announced, you can read the initial changes over on the announcement page.

Tournament Corner

Doomsday’s Corgi Cup tournament is back for it’s 3rd edition. This friendly tournament is an inhouse tournament for Doomsday’s twitch subscribers (and a few close friends). The tournament will span over 7 weeks with the Qualifiers starting this weekend. The tournament will be streamed over on Doomsday twitch channel and will feature players from a wide range of skill levels. Scorewatch: March week 4 (With Scorewatch Patrol)

Cookiezi still proves his absolute dominance in the osu! Standard scene by pulling off a crazy HDHR 97.07% FC on Kuroneko Dungeon - Ryoushi no Umi no Lindwurm on Vert’s Extreme, giving him 423pp and the only HDHR FC and only FC without score reducing mods. Simply mindblowing, then again, he is Cookiezi.

A certain USA top player by the name of kablaze recently returned to osu!. Of course, he decided to set some scores, which included this amazing ALiCE'S EMOTiON - Dark Flight Dreamer HDHR SS (not to mention, 52 freaking UR), to earn himself 485pp and the 4th spot on the map, also becoming the 4th player to HDHR SS this difficulty, together with Wilchq, Yaong and Bikko. Check it out!

-GN definitely came out top this week with his amazing 5 miss HD score on Camellia - Exit This Earth's Atomosphere mapped by rrtyui. His score sits comfortably at 2nd and also gave him 231pp. Check it out!

ExGon decided to take a swing at Fleshgod Apocalypse - The Deceit / The Violation and set a 99.91% 5 miss score, hitting a peak combo of 3892. Step aside Hypwer27 and Kyptoric, the 3rd no mod pass on this difficulty beats out both scores combined, with ExGon going past 600,000,000. Let’s hope this shocking score won’t bore you to death with 10 minutes of metal.

Deceitful became the 2nd osu!catch player to get an HDHR SS on Halozy - Genryuu Kaiko (the 1st being ExGon), gaining a massive 898pp and the 2nd spot on the map. The No. 1 Indonesian and Southeast Asian osu!catch player moved to 7th place with that score. Incredible stuff. “=

TWC 2017 Week 2 Summary: Separation of the Brackets - with magnomizer

This week in the Round of 16, we were treated to 8 splendid matches between the 16 countries that remain in the tournament. While it was a shame that none of the matches were close enough for tiebreaker, the whole experience was intense nonetheless. Don’t worry if you’ve missed out though, as you can always watch the VODs here, or settle for a brief recap below:

Out of the 8 matches taking place on Sunday, half of them ended in 5-0 sweeps. From this, it is looking like Canada, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan will make it very far into the tournament, though nothing is ever certain in these things. The remaining matches were definitely more heated, and we are starting to see some teams fall behind as the mappool difficulty continues to ramp up.

The match between Germany and Malaysia certainly deserves mention. Against all expectations, Malaysia, something of the “dark horse” of the tournament managed to take the first point of the match against the top seeded Germany (granted, it was due to an untimely disconnection, but the point would still have been extremely close). Germany retaliated accordingly, evening up the score to 1-1. However to the surprise of everyone, the low seeded Malaysia stood strong, and took yet another point from their opponent. At this point, it was looking to be an extremely close match, but Germany found their footing and stormed through the rest of the match, resulting in a 5-2 victory. An impressive showing from Malaysia nonetheless - they are doing exceptionally well for a low seeded team, and they are a team to watch out for next week.

Two other matches worthy of note were Indonesia vs. Australia, and United States vs. France. The matchups were very close - both pairings were of roughly equal skill. After a fierce clash of swords (or lack thereof), Australia and United States were the teams that made it out on top, knocking Indonesia and France down to the loser’s bracket, where they will soon face against each other. Both teams will have to be well prepared if they want to remain in this tournament.

Next week in the winners bracket, we have a number of potential close and exciting matches. I predict Taiwan vs. Germany will be a very hard fought and close battle. Even more so for the match of United States vs. Australia. The remaining matchups look to be sweeps from Canada’s and Japan’s side, though having made it this far already, their opponents are clearly not to be underestimated.

The first match is scheduled to take place on Saturday 25 March, 18:00 UTC. This time, the stakes are raised even higher as half the teams are now at risk of being eliminated!
