criticizing fictional women's actions/roles can be tricky to navigate because like

on one hand i do not want to unintentionally open pandora's box to bad-faith misogynistic interpretations from sexist people who may read the analysis and view it as a reinforcement of their own extreme bias/hatred beliefs towards women

yet on the other hand, her character did do something worth criticism over and/or she is partly at fault for shifting another character's arc/the story arc into a negative turn, and to pretend like She Has Not Done Anything Wrong cages her into a glass box

#im just....#its the ACTIONS and the ROLE she plays that is the critcism. not because she is a woman #and to limit her character by her sex and/or gender is fucking WHACK #to reduce it down to that is just...bizarre #like sorry dude sometimes!!! a mother plays a negative role in her son's life!! and partly contributes to his depression #and there's history tied into everything ofc. present day contexts #so when we critically examine a character no matter what we have a responsibility to acknowledge those real life factors #misogyny is so heavily interwoven in our patriarchial society #and so you always want to support and love and care for your women characters #but i feel like you can love a character and still analyze/be critical of her actions #or you can flat out dislike her! that's fine!! but there's a difference between dislike due to actions/role and dislike due to gender
