Recent Weird Experiences

1) 11/10/2018, I don't know if it could be weird or doctor who related idk but around 8:30ish to 9, when I was doing something at work? One of the outside work lights was flickering but the one on the other side wasn't. The lights are white but maybe due to the darkness too, it could have some blue tint? idk.other than that, 11/11, that's tomorrow, I work it. I wonder what could happen if something will? also if anything else weird happened, on the way somewhere before work today, I heard the clatter of rock {s} against the sidewalk pavement? Maybe that could be me but I don't think so bc I would have felt it or seen rocks? but I didn't. I don't know. Also, ive always felt watched... if anything happened today, I was reading a doctor who fanfic and felt like I was being watched as I cried.

2) so two really weird things happened today, wowza. 11/12/2018 . First , it was at like around 2:10 / 2:15 . I was putting coffee into the microwave, let it go down to zero and here is the weird things about it: It should beep when its done but it didn't. If you don't grab it, it occasionally beeps. But it didn't at all and when I go into the kitchen to look at it, the word End was flashing with its yellow greenish color. My mom was on the couch and obviously animals don't act like humans to mess with objects how humans use them. The second thing which was around a half hour ago: around 6 ish for a little bit, I heard noises all around the outside of the house like someone or whoever or whatever was outside. I look out into the dark and didn't see anyone/felt watched, Yikes.

3) ok so it's 11/13/2018 and it is 11:44 rn and not even a minute or two ago, the glass door made a sound like It was being opened and then closed. I get up, no one is there when I look out the blinds.I open the door and look outside, I don't see anyone there. I check to see other things to see if maybe it was just the wind. Nope, nothing was blowing. uhm??? and the thing with the lights, glowing orange with the face and little figures? I saw it again last night on around late 11:40 something to 11:50? I remember it happening because I was still awake by 11:59 midnight trying to fall asleep. Except it was just one light and it wasn't moving, the orange light to the figure wearing red and one little figure. I felt like I was noticed for seeing but like, I was in my room, I didn't go outside because well, I had to sleep and it was late and ... etc, yeah {happened, 11/6/2018}

4) yeah and I was thinking about my fandoms today and I was half serious half joking that like if I saw anyone from my fandoms, I would have left my work place today and not even came in, Saying if there was a sign then I saw a hand move upward in a car right outside the window not far from me right after I said that?? but like, I felt watched and then they drove past the place the other way and away. But like what if it was just normal random humans? idk because 'signs' it was happening twice but like if its just a hand moving and you don't know who the person is, idk ugh, It was around 3:30/3;40 something today of 11/14/2018

5) {11/16/2018} also something huge happened this morning that was either person or persons or entities but this never happened before. My moms boyfriend came over to the house last night and this morning around 10-ish-11 maybe, I hadn't checked the time but it was this morning so that is an estimate because I remember checking the clock when it was around 1 ish and time had passed by a bit since it happened BUT ANYWAY, my mom and her boyfriend were going to talk up at the corner before he left and like though they said they were only going to be a few minutes, apparently they were gone for at least 15 minutes and I know if they came back earlier, they would talk when I asked, {while they were gone} if it was them BUT I heard the sound of the door moving, my computer chair moving aggressively and the sound of something hard being set down. Wtf? and I heard thud like sounds in the bathroom while I was taking a bath, the cat was specifically not in there to do it because the door had been closed so like??? A/N: Felt like I would mention it because this is a blog now of not just experiences of tv shows/movies being real but paranormal, ufo/aliens, etc. And these are weird things.

So.....Danish currency....

I just want to preface this with two things: 1) some of this might not be accurate because I had known about this before but there isn’t really many resources to look at besides Wikipedia which is notorious for many reasons, so please forgive/correct any mistakes I’ve made (I will probably be adding on to this post whenever i find something new) and 2) I DID have this all written out in tumblr mobile and I was just about ready to post this last night, but then I clicked out of the app for a second to read over some more sources to see if I got everything right, and everything got deleted :))) so I’m sorry I posted this a day later, I just had to rewrite it from memory in google docs so it wouldn’t happen again ackkkk yikes also @oldfritz @steuby and @minty-minho you asked for this as well

Okay, so it’s 1619. You’re in Denmark, everything’s cool. You’ve got this awesome currency called the pfennig that you’ve had for round about 800 years now (there’s one that we think might be from as early as 825) and yeah, sometimes the value of the coin’s metal is worth less than its face value just to generate profit for the monarchy but really it’s not that–BAM. New currency. It’s called the Krone (in English “crown”) and WOW nice product placement, King James IV. Ok, so fast forward to 1625. Suddenly you’ve got a new king AND a new currency system! Strange how when new leaders come into a pretty healthy country things turn topsy-turvy. Anyway, the new currency system seems pretty cool. You’ve got lots of new coins to check out, there’s a new(ish since it was there in 1619) bank to check out, lots of fun stuff to check out and–oh. Oh no. What are these exchange rates??? Let’s take a look.

So you’ve got your old tried-and-true pfennig, right? Goodness, you love that thing. Oh well. It’s just lost most of its value. So this pfennig. 12 of them make this new coin called a skilling. Reading this in your local fantastisk tysk avis you’re already wary of what’s going to come next, because 12 is a pretty weird number.

This skilling is pretty cool, you decide, so you read a bit further in your fantastisk tysk avis to see what you can do with it. Oh boy. 16 skilling make a mark. I guess mark was already a thing in 1619 when the bank of Hamburg (literally “Hamburger bank”) was founded, and they used the mark as their universal currency. This means that 192 pfennig make a mark, if you were so inclined to carry around like 12,000 tonnes of metal in your pocket whenever you leave the house. Oh no, but we haven’t even started yet.

Your hands are shaking on the tysk avis and you feel as though you’ve been cursed by some ancient being–but no, it’s just your government. 6 mark make a rijksdaalder. (or you can say rigsdalder or rigsdaler or riksdaler or reichstahler if you aren’t from Denmark or if you speak English and can’t be bothered to learn how to pronounce other languages’ words you can use rix-dollar.) (also that might mean the Danish suffix daler might be why we use “dollar” as our currency but I haven’t done that much research there so don’t quote me on that.) So what does that mean? That means that one rijksdaalder is equal to 1,152 pfennig, 96 skilling, or 6 mark. You feel faint. The wind feels as though it might be able to knock you over.

Oh, wait, hey, hey, hey. Remember the kroner I was talking about earlier? Yeah, well, 8 mark make a krone. Mark are DOUBLY USEFUL here, which makes them your new favorite currency, though you might be on the brink of lunacy here, so maybe not. But this also means that one krone is also equal to 1,536 pfennig, 128 skilling, or 8 mark. In shock with shaking chills, you put the fantastisk tysk avis down and pledge to live your life the best you can with this crazy currency.

You’re now old and frail, because it’s the 18th century. Welcome to 1713. For some reason this system has carried the weight of time, but now it’s time for things to change. The currency system–it what? It… SPLIT IN TWO????

yeah. And actually, it’s really confusing, and I couldn’t find anything on the internet that describes this split or even each half. But I guess there’s one half called courant, and one half called species. (???) (just by the context of the next part I THINK that species means how the coins were made but that makes NO sense over all so just roll with it idk) So the rijksdaalder species has in it 4/37 of one Cologne Mark’s worth of silver.

Okay, okay. So the Cologne Mark would be equal to 233.856 grams today, and it was basically used as a “base unit” for a lot of monetary systems although if you ask me 4/37ths of 233.856 grams does not seem like a base unit, but whatever. For those of you who like math, which isn’t me, the answer would be about 25.2817297 grams of silver in each rijksdaalder, which, you know, seems like a LOT. So this means that if you wanted your Full All-Inclusive 233.856 Grams Of Silver™, you would need 9.25 rijksdaalder, because 9.25*(4/37)=37. I hate math. But this also means that if you wanted one Cologne Mark of silver, you would need… *clears throat* 10,656 pfennig, 888 skilling, fifty-five and one-half mark, or 9.25 rijksdaalder.

Y’know, at this point, you think it might be easier to move to the American colonies, because there’s NO WAY that there could be ANY DISPUTE about monetary values there over the next century :) .

Now, I’m not pretending to know why the system itself was so convoluted. In fact, I really, really don’t. If anyone does, definitely add on to this post because it’s actually really interesting? But the thing that makes me really angry is that they kept this system for TWO HUNDRED YEARS. They did away with it in 1813 after a financial crisis. What with the way the system was created I’m incredibly surprised it lasted that long tbh. (Also if someone who is an expert in Danish history could tell me why it lasted so long that’d be great because it’s 2:07 in the morning atm and I’ve been working on this for three hours)

And I learned all the specifics of this because I wanted to know what currency Hamilton would’ve used growing up on St. Croix so never forget to research your fanfictions, kids, because you might find something really interesting.

An Old Fashioned Christmas

An Electronics-Free Christmas? We Did (And We Survived)

Around here, we’re an organic, granola-crunchy, natural bedding-sleeping, plastic-free (okay, plastic-reduced…this keyboard I’m typing on has outed me there all by itself) family.

And honestly, I’m proud of us for this. It has taken a long time, a lot of research, and tons of substitutions (and trial and error) to get to the point where I can legitimately say my family lives as natural a lifestyle as possible, within the limits that the modern world imposes.

Through the years, when it comes to the natural life, Christmas has been our final frontier. What can be more glittery, more plastic-y, more brightly lit and more deliciously, deck-the-hallsy faux than Christmas? Not in spirit, of course. (That’s a personal matter, and can be a very meaningful and deep one.) Rather, I’m talking about its materialistic practicalities.

Because yes, “natural” or no, like so many other families, we absolutely love all the trimmings of the season, right down to tinsel (yikes!), non-LED lights (come on, we HAVE to buy new lights?), plastic-wrapped candy canes, DVDs (and “24 Hours of a Christmas Story, of course”), made in who-knows-where Elf on the Shelf…the list goes on.

You can see how such a schism was bound to make me, Granola Mommy, feel a bit, well, hypocritical. So last year, I decided we would have a true old-fashioned Christmas…with NO electronics.

(Pausing for a moment of silence here. I know, I know. Hang in there, it’s not all bad, I swear.)

Granted, depending upon just where you go with “old-fashioned,” one could be talking about lead tinsel, non-child-friendly paints and plastic everything…even when one goes quite some way back in time. So we went way-er back than that (is way-er a word?) and decided to shoot for a Victorian (or even pre-) holiday.

Want to know how we did it…and laughed about it (and in the end, decided to make it an annual tradition)? Curious about trying it yourself? Here’s how to have your very own old-fashioned, au naturel Yuletide. Hint: it’s not all twigs and berries (though they’re there too ) and it definitely won’t be perfect, but it WILL be fun. That much I promise you…and it’s my gift to you.

1. Douse the Lights

That’s right. All of them. Just for the day and night, mind you. Yes, you CAN live without electronics. We did it, and we only considered Xanax a few times. (Maybe a few dozen?) You can do it too!

Christmas is all about candlelight…especially a Victorian or heck, a Renaissance Christmas. Of course, if you’re concerned about fire, you can cheat and get battery-operated flameless candles. (I’ll give you a pass on that one.) We went halfsies: for candles closer to small(ish) hands (our littlest was five), we used the battery type, and for the rest, we used the real deal – beeswax, in fire-safe dishes and well away from décor.

I know, I know…it’s sad to see an unlit Christmas tree. One thing I will NOT recommend to you is a traditional Swedish tree decked with, literally, candles. This is intended to be an old-fashioned Christmas, not a fire department one. Emergency response personnel have families too…spare everyone and skip the (literally) lit tree, just for this one night.

2. Bake Up a Storm

I’m a scary baker. I’ll admit it. (Hey…weren’t we just talking about the fire department a minute ago? Hashtag coincidence.)

But because I have taken us back to basics, I’ve had to learn to cook. For our traditional, unplugged Christmas, I didn’t use any ingredients I couldn’t spell.

It’s easy to make anything delicious without adding anything weird to the mix. Trust me. A little organic cane sugar, something flour-ish (we used rice, tapioca and potato flours as we’re gluten-free) and you can make anything taste good…well, except the turkey.

I forced my kids to help, but despite themselves, they loved it. Pull your little ones in, and any friends you can gather. If you have an electronic stove, okay, that’s a cheat too…so do your “big baking” the day before, and be set with wonderful cookies, pies and other goodies on the Big Day.

3. Make Your Own Décor

You may not be the Pinterest queen (goodness knows I’m not), but you CAN make adorable Christmas décor.

Ever seen a movie or read a book that described the family making tree garland out of popcorn and cranberries? Yes, that can really be done. Take my advice, though, and use thimbles. Just…trust me on this one. Then sit everyone in a row with a heavy thread, needle and lots of popcorn…and start threadin’.

This takes forever. For. Ev. Er. But wow, is it fun to think of things to talk and laugh about…and get back to family basics with.

More do-it-yourself décor: pine cones and berries on the table; cardboard cutouts of reindeer, stars, trees, gifts and Santa; snowflakes cut out of organic coffee filters (fold the filter four times and cut small semi-circles and triangles, then open back up); and grapevine wreaths stuffed with bits of pine twigs, dried fruit, and dried flowers.

4. Learn to Sing

I love to sing, and I’m not terrible. But how many families sit around and sing for their entertainment nowadays? We did, and after a few uncomfortable glares at Mom’s tremolo (don’t judge), my children, wife, in-laws and I were trilling up a storm in no time.

What do you do without electronics? Well, what did people do BEFORE electronics? Putting aside more unsavory possibilities, like competitive rock-throwing or stall-mucking, I’m going with: they sang. Remember Pa from Little House on the Prairie, getting his family to sing and toe-tap to his fiddle playing? Yeah, it’s like that. And yes. It IS fun. Try it.

5. Play a Game

There are all sorts of non-electronic games you can play to make the evening fun (or, as my 13-year-old said, “Less skull-crushingly boring.” Isn’t he great? I just love that little dude…hyperbole for the win).

Remember charades? Jokes? Twenty Questions? Those and more are all games that would have been played in days of old. You don’t have to play a Victorian game…just play a game. One that doesn’t involve any buttons, except the ones of Dad’s you’ll push by making a bald joke or slipping a swear word into your turn at charades.

It’s amazing how close a family can get from playing a silly game and laughing about it…and being competitive about it…and losing but not caring because the win was just so darned clever. Depending on your age, you probably played games with your family. Remember the fun? It’s still there…bring it back. Don’t remember the fun? (Oh you Millennials…) Start fun of your own. Make up your own game and make it a tradition.

I haven't had health insurance since I turned 18 and no longer qualified for my family's health insurance plan. I wasn't really concerned at the time, but now that its been a few years (I am almost 21 now), I am in need of dental care. My problem is that I don't know what my health insurance options currently are. I am a college student, although my community college does not offer any health plans for students. So that would cost me $21.53 weekly, which doesn't sound too bad, except I only earn about $120 every two weeks....reducing my paychecks to about only $76 every two weeks....which just isn't enough for me to live on considering that I pay for my own food and everything else needed. So.... does anyone know of health insurance companies that have options for community college students like me? I know state insurance may be an option, but I have a feeling I don't qualify for that since I'm not legally an independent, yet I can't afford to move out and become independent. In my state and probably many others now as well, there are three License tiers: Learners Permit, Provisional Drivers License, and Full License. Learners permit is pretty much self explanatory, you have to drive with a parent/guardian only and must hold it for 9 months to get to the Provisional License in the middle which allows you to drive fully unsupervised after you turn 18 with many restrictions before 18 but still carries increased penalties(what they consist of I am not sure but they are nonetheless there only for Provisional Licenses) even after you turn 18, and then after you hold a Provisionals for 18 months, you can finally get a full license. Obviously not having increased penalties would be nice but I'm wondering if Full License status would also reduce insurance rates since it shows that you were able to hold a Provisionals for so long without moving violations and are therefore not quite as problematic of a driver as someone who has not yet passed the 18-month probationary period required for a Full License. Clarification on what a Provisional License is for my age(20): The Provisional License is for all intents and purposes basically the same as a full drivers license after you turn 18 with the exception of enhanced penalties for moving violations which remain possible until you get a full license. I'm just curious if there are insurance benefits that come with a full license as well or if, for some absurd reason, they still base it on the old learners-then-license system, and then they go up after you get a full license because they think you are suddenly unsupervised, which is not the case with a Provisional License moving up to a Full License.""

Enterprise Rent a Car Insurance?

I reserved a rental car in California with Enterprise. The price was $9.99/day because of a weekend deal . When I checked in at the counter the agent told me that I needed to either provide proof of FULL COVERAGE insurance or purchase their insurance (which would raise my daily rate from $9.99 to $40)!! If I didn't do either then they wouldn't let me rent a car. I thought that was ridiculous and decided not to rent a car. I've never been required to show proof of any type if insurance whether it be liability or full coverage when renting a car. Was there some recent law that I missed or were they scamming me?

Question on Divorce and Auto Insurance?

Background: My wife left me and is filing for divorce. She took her car which is a marital asset that both of us own. She has since left the state to move in with a friend and I cannot get a hold of her as she will not return my calls. Update: Our current auto coverage is set to expire on 10/17. I have taken out coverage on myself through a different company, set to start on the 17th. As of the 17th she will be uninsured unless she takes out her own policy. Is is my responsibility to make sure she is still insured on my policy? She won't return my calls or the calls that my new agent has left for her so my hands are tied. I just want to make sure I'm not doing anything that may bite me later. I also don't want to have to foot the bill for her portion of the insurance given that she doesn't live with me anymore and doesn't even live in the same state. My parents are getting older now and I was wondering where was a good reliable place I can obtain low cost life insurance for them in case something happens to take care of their bills and wishes? I've seen ads on TV and the internet, but I can't tell who is a reliable company and it would be great if they don't have to go through a medical exam. I'm not looking for a million dollar policy or to get rich, just something reasonable to help take care of their bills and stuff should the worst happen.
