OKAY WAIT ACTUALLY i am also. So obsessed with what i left behind i was wondering if you could talk more about how marty and doc’s relationship is in that au?? I know that’s about where you are in your fix but im impatient lol. Sorry for loads of asks your aus are just so cool!!

YESS I CAN! this will probably delve into spoilery material, but on the other hand im not sure when ill actually continue (whoops) so be warned ig

its a very confusing relationship, to say the least, one where both know that somehow the other is important to the other but neither knows why

marty remembers doc in a very abstract way. he can only remember doc getting shot and that he’s important, but he can’t remember how docs important or anything else about him. he’s confused as to why doc is there when marty can remember him dying, and small part of him thinks that memory wasnt real or that this guy is someone completely different who just happens to look like him. the bigger part of him doesnt care about if that’s actually the right person, because docs the first person who helped marty and was nice to him. hes willing to ignore the confusion of the memory for the comfort of being with the only person he recognizes

doc, on the other hand, is very confused. hes going to help this kid as much as he can, because martys obviously in a very fragile state and needs help, but doc doesn’t understand any of it. doc very fully believes that martys either mistaking him for some vauge memory, or some other reason, but doesn’t really ever push this theory on marty (past when marty first woke up in the mansion). after a day or so doc does become very protective of marty

their dynamic at this point is very confusing, but still caring

eventually they find the video camera in the car (whoops spoiler) and are able to fully piece together what has happened. after this doc definitely get way more protective (and guilty) because know he knows that it’s pretty much entirely his fault that martys stuck there, with no memory. at that point their dynamic would be a bit closer to the movies dynamic
