i am once again thinking about first time cat owner iwaizumi hajime who is increasingly bewildered by his cat behaving like a regular cat.

yes, absolutely!! meet the iwaoisuga dog and have some hcs about her!!

so. after iwaizumi finishes school/his internship in california, he goes back to japan and gets an apartment with suga. a few months later, after a few talks with oikawa about it, they look into adopting a dog!

they end up adopting a chocolate lab mix! her name is maru! she's a very loyal, friendly, and intelligent dog. it takes a few months for her and bell to get used to each other but once everyone's adjusted to the change, it's smooth sailing from there.

they did wait for oikawa to be back in japan for a while before they started the dog search because they wanted to make sure it was a dog he was comfortable with. he was actually the one who 'picked' maru. she was the first dog they met that he really liked and felt a good connection with.

oikawa is still not really a dog person but he is a his dog person. the exact opposite of reluctant cat dad kuroo. oikawa just thinks maru is the best dog ever and no other dog can ever compete with her.

maru goes on morning runs with oikawa and iwaizumi! it's one of her favorite things to do. when oikawa and iwaizumi are both out of town, suga will take her. his pace is a lot slower than theirs usually is but maru's happy enough just to be going out with one of her people :)

be wary of taking naps on the couch, you will wake up with two different animals laying on top of you. it has happened to iwaizumi multiple times. (not that he’s really complaining tbh)

bell and maru get along fairly well! sometimes bell will go and curl with maru when she’s sleeping on the couch or in her dog bed. it is very cute.

during one of his extended breaks from work, iwaizumi started looking into making homemade treats for maru and bell. it now becomes something he does every couple weeks. he has the recipes that they really seem to like bookmarked on his phone.

a little bandana fashionista. she has quite the collection. when suga finds some volleyball printed fabric at the thrift store, he buys it and then starts looking it into how to sew a bandana so he can make her a volleyball bandana.

ABSOLUTELY. headcanons about the beloved iwaoisuga cat below.

i've mentioned before that iwaizumi has never had a cat before, and bell also happens to be the first cat iwaizumi has really interacted with for an extended amount of time. so a lot of cat stuff ends up catching him off-guard. the first time she purrs while laying on his chest, he jumps and goes "what the fuck". suga (through a fit of laughter) informs him that she's purring. it has led suga to start a series on his personal twitter that is basically 'normal cat things that my boyfriend has been completely shocked by'

during the years when oikawa is living in argentina and iwasuga are in japan, iwaizumi and suga try to take a trip to argentina at least once a year (during the summer). and so they will go into the group chat they have with their friend group and ask who's available to cat sit. and every year without fail the group chat descends into chaos as people fight over who gets to watch her. if the dates line up and kuroo isn't traveling, it's usually him tbh.

she will go and try to lay on the keyboard whenever they're video chatting with oikawa. which is cute but also she has accidentally hung up on oikawa several times. they've switched to just using their phones now.

oikawa will send little kitty care packages from argentina. just with cat toys and stuff. it's not really anything different than what they have in japan but he likes to still feel involved even when he's gone. or sometimes he'll just randomly order something online for her.

ok anyway... iwaoisuga thoughts. they have a cat and a dog <3 suga actually adopted the cat while they were going long distance (it was kinda spontaneous tbh, he was lonely) and they got the dog when iwaizumi came back to japan.

suga introduces kageyama to bell after he offhandedly mentions to him one day that he doesn’t think animals like him. and suga is like “ok that can’t be true i am rectifying this immediately”

and he was right because bell really likes kageyama!!! and kageyama is pleased to meet an animal who doesn’t seem to dislike him. kageyama comes over every couple weeks to interact with her. oikawa pretends to be more annoyed by this than he actually is.

re: iwaoisuga cat. iwaizumi sends this to their groupchat after a week where both suga and oikawa fed her every day, not knowing that the other one has been doing it. iwaizumi maintains that he had not been feeding her a third time, but suga has his suspicions.

IM CRYING thank you for this <3

suga makes a chart after this incident so they can keep track of when she's been fed. he also intends to get iwaizumi to admit that he had been feeding her a third time. it doesn't really matter much to him but it's the principle of the thing.

You mentioned that Bell is leash trained, are there any other tricks or things she can do?

yes! she knows sit, lay down, shake, and stand!

these aren't necessarily tricks she was taught but she likes to play fetch and the shell game (that took a little bit of directing at first) as well!

um. ok anyway! i wanna talk more abt iwaoisuga’s cat (dog info still pending)

the cat that suga ends up adopting is a little gray spotted tabby named bell. she is an absolute sweetheart, she has her moments but is overall just a very good cat. very affectionate. suga spends a few months harness-training her so they can take her on walks :) (kuroo teases him for this, suga does not care)

iwaizumi will fall asleep on the couch and she’ll go and curl up on his chest. it is the cutest thing and yes, suga and oikawa take a picture every time it happens. (oikawa laments that this has never happened to him 😔)

i would like to hear more about the extended iwaoisuga universe 🙏 what is your favourite part of it?

hmm. i have decided that most of the national team like... loves suga which i love. that's not specifically related to their relationship but it is a part of the ~lore~ that i like. i just think suga is a person who is hard not to like. maybe i'm biased though bc he's my favorite character lol.

a hc i really like that i actually haven't shared before: when they're all together, oikawa and iwaizumi will go on a run and suga will make them breakfast before they get back, it started as him being like 'i will make you breakfast if you don't force me to go with you please'

oikawa is not a morning person but he allows iwaizumi to wake him up and drag him along anyways because he wants to stay in the habit of waking up early even when he's on break. it's also a good way to spend time together and make up for the time they've been apart. (he has an a thing he does with suga too but i haven't quite decided on what it is yet)

ok ok who in iwaoisuga is more of a cat person and who is more of a dog person? are any of them an ‘i don’t like animals’ person but as soon as a pet is introduced they would lay down their life for them?

oikawa is a cat person, iwaizumi is a dog person, suga is just... an animal person but i think he likes cats a little more.

oikawa kinda? he likes cats but he's never really been the biggest fan of dogs. when they do get a dog though, he would absolutely lay down his life for the dog.

i think iwa and suga like to play horror games together. if it’s a single player game, one of them will watch the other player and offer assistance if the other one needs it. oikawa sat in and watched them play once but quickly decided it was too scary for him and now he just leaves them to it.
