During the last week of July, the city of Omuta hosts the famous Daijiyama dragon festival with more than a dozen dragon floats. From what I’ve pieced together, local legend holds that there was once a battle between a dragonsnake and a crab on nearby Mt Miike. The crab defeated the dragon, creating 3 (healing?) ponds, of which one still exists today. During this festival, people are held up to the mouth of the dragons, which is believed to bring protection from illness. Video game developers Level-5 have found their true calling - creating local mascots.

Jabow (ジャー坊) is the new official mascot of Ōmuta, Fukuoka, revealed in March 2017 to celebrate the city’s centenary. It was created by Akihiro Hino, Ōmuta native and president of Fukuoka-based Level-5 Inc. - known for game series such as Professor Layton, Yo-kai Watch and Ni no Kuni - along with Level-5 character designer Takuzo Nagano (no surprises that he also worked on Yo-kai Watch).

Jabow is a serpent that has taken a humanoid form - based on the huge snake floats of the Ōmuta’s Daijayama festival. His helmet and pickaxe represent the city’s coal mining heritage. He claims to be a guardian deity of the city.

Jabow has entered this year’s Yuru-Chara Grand Prix, and is currently doing very well in 5th place.

Central Forces Havaldar arrested for blackmailing minor girls through fake Facebook accounts

JAMMU: A central forces Havaldar from Jammu was arrested Tuesday for allegedly harassing minor girls in Reasi district here by creating fake Facebook accounts and posting obscene content and messages, officials said. Based on the minor girl's father's complaint, Havaldar Ghar Singh, the accused, was arrested from Reasi, they said. As per the complaint, which was filed on May 8, unknown persons created fake Facebook accounts of his minor daughter, which were being used to publicly post morphed, nude pictures of the minor girl, his wife and some other members of the family. The accused even messaged pornographic material on the mobile phone of his daughter and blackmailed her to respond to his messages, else he would continue to shame her on social media. Singh was also accused of hacking another minor girl's (from Bhambla) Facebook account and blackmailing her to do his biding, officials said. An FIR was registered at Reasi Police Station. SSP Reasi Nisha Nathyal constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT). Using the phone number and technical assistance from the cyber cell in Reasi, the police identified the accused. Singh is from Jabowal Khurd in Jammu, officials said. The accused used to operate from his unit at Nasirabad Cantonment in Ajmer, Rajasthan. A special police team was dispatched to Singh's place of posting in Nasirabad, but he was found to be on leave, they said. Finally, Singh was arrested from Reasi, where the accused was trying to manage his anticipatory bail in the case, officials said. The accused is already wanted in different cases registered at Bakshi Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Domana and Rajouri police stations, they said. Read the full article
