Natasha scoffs, shaking her head.
“What is it?” You ask.
She hums, not entirely paying attention to you. “What?”
“What… is… it?” You enunciate each word.
“Oh,” she glances over at you from the corner of her eye. “Nothing. It’s- it’s nothing.”
“It’s not nothing. You barely scoff at articles about celebrities, what’s got you making noise, Princess P?”
“I hate that you use Bagman’s nickname for me even if it is slightly abbreviated.”
“No, you don’t. You love it.”
She smirks, “you can’t prove it.”
“Everyone knows you love me.”
“That I can’t deny. You’re the only one who can keep him tame and a little more tolerable.”
“There’s a couple of other people you’re forgetting.”
“Okay, the only adult.”
“You’re too-” you glance down at your belly.
Natasha perks up, pulling her legs up resting her bottom on her heels, “is she kicking?”
You smile, rubbing your belly. “She is. Seems like someone is happy to hear about her dada.” “I’m gonna pretend you didn’t say that.”
She hesitantly stretches her arm in front of her before pulling back. “Can I-”
“Show me what you’re looking at and I’ll let you feel her soccer kicks.”
The smile from her face. “You’re an evil woman.”
“Me? Never. Phone?”
She sighs and turns on her phone, showing you your husband’s latest post. She places her hand on the center of your belly, inches above your belly button.
You scoff, shaking your head, grabbing her hand moving it to your left side.
An excited smile stretches across her lips. “He is so not getting cuddles tonight.”
“How threatening,” she mutters.
“Hey! I will have you know I am an excellent cuddler.”
“I mean, you have to be considering your current situation.”
“I was not going through dirty route.”
“And I did. You’re,” she quiets down. Your precious Gillian starts kicking again. Natasha leans forward, basically laying her head in your lap as she rubs your belly, quietly murmuring to her. “You’re so precious. Yes, you are.”
“Baby G is not a dog, Nat.”
“I know she’s not but I’m not a baby person.”
“You’ve taken care of Mary, Eddie, and Sara-B before.”
“But that’s different. They’re not my kids.”
“With the way you all burst in here, I don’t know, it’s hard to tell,” you joke with her. “Oh.”
She pushes herself off you, sitting up. “Pee break?”
You nod, “pee break.”
She gets off the couch and helps you get up.
You waddle to the bathroom. You do your business and start washing your hands; your eyes wander around the sink, stopping at Jake’s almost empty bottle of cologne. You make sure to add that to your mental list so you can add it to your list on your phone. You shake your head as you waddle down the hallway. “Jake’s an ass.”
“Finally! A conversation I can get into. Why is he an ass this time?”
“He posts that dumb thing about blue balls and thinks that I’m not gonna find out about it. As if he gets blue balls, if anything it’s me. But I’m not in the mood one time, one time and all of a sudden, he's got blue balls.”
She owlishly blinks, “okay, I get what you’re saying but it was basically a lot of you saying blue balls and you lost me.”
“Jake is a dumbass.”
“For sure but he’s your dumbass.”
You sniff, “I know.”
“Oh, you’re crying. Um, okay.” She fluffs the pillow you keep behind your back, “let’s just- let’s sit down and breath.” She takes your hand and pulls you closer towards the couch.
You sit down, wiping the corner of your eyes. “He’s a dumbass who was trying to impress the guys with that stupid joke.”
“I know, you’re right.”
“Of course, I am.”
“You’ve been hanging out with Jake for so long, you’ve got his cocky attitude.” She shudders, “ew.”
You two start chuckling so hard, tears pool in both of your waterlines.
The front door clicks, seems like Jake and the others are back.
Javy and Bob enter the living room, shoving each other (Bob is lucky he caught himself before he fell).
“Boys.”
“Sorry,” they apologize with their heads down.
Natasha shakes her head at the two. “Whimps.”
“Shut up,” says Javy.
“Not a whimp,” Bob mutters.
“Oh, I know. I sleep next to you; believe me I know.”
Jake chuckles, “baby on board is getting more action than Chicken. This is great.”
“Is it great?”
He bends down to peck your cheek only for you to turn your head. He furrows his brows, “you alright?”
Your head snaps in his direction, “I don’t know, you tell me.”
“Alright, come on.”
“Why don’t you consult your blueberries?”
“What?”
Natasha waves the two over, whispering what’s going on.
They snicker, sitting on the recliner and the floor.
“What are you talkin’ about, sweetheart?”
The front door opens again.
You all turn to see Bradley and the kids.
“Hello, crew.”
“Bradley,” you greet him with a smile.
“Do I sense, drama?”
Natasha nods her head.
Maryanne and Edwin come over go you, hugging you. “Hi, mama.”
You hug and kiss them on the cheek. “Hello, my babies. Did you two have fun?”
They nod.
“Uncle Rooster was talking to a few of the moms and nanny’s today,” Edwin informs you.
“Did he now?”
He pretends not to hear you as he unbuckles Sarabeth from the stroller, placing her in your arms.
“And hello my littlest baby.”
She gurgles, smiling once she realized who’s arms, she’s in now. “Mama.”
You peck her cheeks, causing her to giggle. “Hi, pumpkin.” You glance over at Bradley who sits on the floor. “How did you enjoy your time at the park, Bradley?”
“Oh, you know. It was the park. Might’ve gotten a little sun.”
“How many numbers did you get?”
“That’s not important.”
“Less or more than ten?”
“Seven,” the kids say.
“Eight, get it right kids.”
“Wow.”
“Tramp,” Javy and Natasha cough into their hands.
“Stop that you two.”
“How was the mother-to-be today?”
“I was doing pretty good for most of the day.”
“What happened?”
“Nothing.”
“Okay. What happened? Everyone else has gotten your sweetness but not your own husband.”
“Did you post anything today?”
“Post anything? Oh.”
“Yeah, oh.”
“You can’t really think I meat it, do you?”
“I don’t know but you’ll be on your side of the bed tonight.”
“But I don’t have a side.”
“Looks like your gonna have one tonight. Yes, you are,” you say looking Sarabeth in the eyes.
“Sweetheart.” He kneels beside you, rubbing your youngest child’s back. “Come on, you know it was a joke. A bad one, I’ll admit but please don’t punish me, baby.”
You turn to look at him with pursed lips, “you’re bad at jokes.”
“I know,” he nods.
You sniff.
He sighs, “oh sweetheart.”
“Mama, no cry. No cry,” she wipes your cheeks.
“Honey, you know I-”
“Stop using cute nicknames, it’s making it harder to find you annoying.”
“Then let me say that I was, again, making a bad joke. You know I love you,” he pecks your cheek. “And how hot under the collar you get.”
“Your whispering sucks and you need to keep it in your pants. There are children present,” Bob says.
“Thank God, someone said it,” Javy chimes in.
“Oh, like you could say anything,” Natasha comments.
Bradley chuckles.
“I don’t know what you’re laughing about over their chuckles. You’re the one that uses a baby.”
“You gotta play the game in order to be in it, right?”
You two groan. “When did he become such a frat guy?” You ask the woman beside you.
“I honestly don’t know and I’m afraid to ask for details.”
You chuckle and turn back to Jake who whispers to your baby.
She crawls off your lap and wonders over towards her siblings, laying across their laps.
He turns to look at you and smiles. “Hey, sweetheart.”
“Hi.”
He leans in, pecking your lips. “This is a better greeting.”
“I bet it is.”
You groan.
“Pee break?”
“Pee break,” you confirm.
“I got you, gorgeous.” He moves to stand in front of you, hauling you out of your seat. His arm curls around your waist, the two of you walk down the hall together.
-
“Other than your dumb post, how was your day?”
“Missed you too much to care about the groceries.”
“Honey-”
“Nope, you can’t change my mind. Besides I always miss you when I’m out of the house.”
“Going to the store,” you correct him.
“Not nearly as bad unless I’m in the sky.”
“Jake, honey.” He shushes you, pecking your nose then your lips. “Go to the bathroom.”
“It takes me a minute so be patient.” You enter the bathroom and close the door, your eyes land on the cologne. “Hey.”
“Yeah?” He leans against the wall besides the door. “You okay?”
“I’m fine. Add your cologne to the list before I forget again.”
“I’ve already added it.”
“You did?”
“Yep. We went through this last week.”
“This baby is messing with my brain.”
“Little bit.”
“You’re supposed to say, ‘no honey. You’re alright. I think you’re still the smartest person I know.’ That is what you’re supposed to say.”
He doesn’t respond for a minute.
You start washing your hands.
He opens the door, “you told me never to lie to you.”
You scoff and try to throw the hand towel at him, only for him to catch it and pull you closer.
“There are four adults’ downstairs with the kids… what do you say?”
“I say, goodbye to your beautiful wife’s cuddling plus more and hello blue balls.”
He groans into your neck. “Sweetheart.”
“You got yourself into this mess, you can get yourself out.”
“Fine.”
-
The two of you walk downstairs and find the kids debating on what to watch with poor little Sarabeth looking confused in her Aunt Natasha’s lap.
You sit down and let out a comforting sigh, you just need to lay back and sit down for a while honestly.
Until there’s a knock at the sliding glass door.
You all turn to see Billy looking like a sad puppy.
Jake opens the door, letting him in.
“What were you doing out there?” You ask.
“These two,” he glances over at the two snickering grown men. He claps the sides of his clenched fists together (like Ross in friends).
The adults understand his code and nod for him to continue.
“Told me we should try to sneak in like the action or spy movies but then they decided not to and “forgot” to tell me.”
“That doesn’t explain the leaves,” Jake points out as he pulls one out of his hair.
Billy lowers his head, “I tripped and landed in a bush.”
You and Natasha have the courtesy to pretend like you’re not laughing unlike the guys.
“We told you… to stop,” Javy wheezes, pausing to try and catch his breath only to laugh harder so tears stream down his cheeks.
“It’s not funny and no you didn’t.”
Bob removes his glasses, wiping away his fallen tears. He turns, looking over at his fellow former graduate.
“Are you sure?”
He frantically nods his head, “I would know.”
“Go to the bathroom and clean yourself up the best you can. If you need clothes, you know where to look.”
He nods, offering a small smile as he walks over to you. “Thank you, to the only nice person here,” he says making sure they can all hear him. He pecks your cheeks and heads towards the bathroom.
“You all are doing mean.”
“Don’t be like that,” Jake squats in front of you. “We’re just jokin’, you know that.” He sits down and grabs your foot, giving you a much-needed foot massage.
You close your eyes and sigh out a breath of relief.
“Looks like someone’s enjoying themselves,” Bradley comments.
“If you knew what it felt like to get a foot massage from him, you’d be zoned out too. But you haven’t and won’t.” You stretch your arms out in front of you, “now pretend I’m hugging him.” You drop your arms, rubbing your belly with a smile. “Is he kicking?” You look at him with a raised brow, “she is. She likes it when you take care of her mama.”
“Then he should be happy all the time then.”
“Ignoring that,” Natasha adds. She slowly reaches over.
You grab her hand, hauling her over towards you. “Come here.” You grab her hand and place it on your belly.
“I feel like you’ve felt his kicks more than I have.”
“I’m her favorite aunt.”
“He doesn’t have one.”
“Yes, she does.”
“Not after today.”
“Would you two stop it,” you jerk your foot in his grasp. “Now is not the time to be acting like children.”
“But-” They both try to respond.
You shake your head, “no.”
“No, but-”
You wave your finger side-to-side.
They try again and fail.
“Would you two can it, we’re trying to watch a movie here,” Bradley hisses as he sprawls out on his stomach.
The two mimic what he said.
You tilt your head with tired eyes being the only thing to give your emotions away.
They apologize and continue with what they were doing before.
You lean back, eyes closing, listening to the movie and everyone’s quiet comments here and there before sleep consumes you.
Jake shoves Natasha off to the side, forcing her to give him room to snuggle into your side.
Your body automatically moving to mold with is.

Easter is Cancelled
Tumblr media
Happy Easter if you celebrate it otherwise Happy Sunday if not. Have a lovely day either way. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
“Dad!” Emily yelled as she walked into the living room. “What’s the matter Em?” he questioned his panicked daughter. “You have to help me.” She proclaimed dragging him to the front door.
As they got outside the 16 year old girl burst into tears. Quickly Jake sprang into action. “What is wrong. Why are you crying baby.” He asked with a crease between his brows. Before she could answer your car pulled into the driveway.
Getting out of the car you were greeted with a sobbing girl and your husband standing there with a confused look on his face. “What is wrong baby girl?” you questioned the young girl pulling her into a hug as she raced to you. “Mom.” She cried into your chest.
“When, when I was busy driving into the driveway, I hit a bunny.” She sobbed out. You just pulled her tighter into a hug. “Okay Emmy where is the bunny?” you asked pulling away and wiping the tears off of her red face.
“Oh no.” you said looking at the poor white bunny that your daughter hit. ‘Thank goodness the poor creature is still alive.’ You thought. “Well baby girl it looks like its leg is broken so we will have to take it to the vet.” You said with a small sigh causing your daughter to cry into your shoulder.
“Oh no.” Jake proclaimed causing you and your daughter to look at him. “Easter is cancelled.” Hangman said and all you could do was glare at him. “Oh hell, what am I going to tell Jeremy.” Jake asked talking about your 5 year old son.
“Jake!” “Dad!” you and your daughter both yelled out at the man standing in front of you. “Stop it.” You scolded the idiot of a man you have been married to for 20 years.
“He ran out in front of the driving instructors car.” She begins sobbing again. “What was I supposed to do? If I swung out, I would have hit your car dad.” She said pointing at his truck in the driveway. Knowing that the truck was a prized possession and was not easily replaceable as it was Jake’s dad’s truck.
You looked at the man you are in love with knowing look, warning him not to go there. “You know there is a saying.” Jake begins. “Here comes Peter Cottontail. Hopping down the bunny driveway on his merry way. But oh no.” he said making a big show of his next move.
“Here comes Emily.” Smashing his fist into his open hand. “Whoops there’s bunny on his way.” Jake continued. “See you later mister bunny you were taken way to young.” Jake faked wiping a tear reaching towards the sky.
Tumblr media
All Emily did was shake her head and punched him on the arm. “Dad.” She whined out. “Shut up.” She concluded. “Jake, Hunny for the love of God shut the hell up.” You muttered shaking your head at the laughing man.
“Thanks a lot Em. Jeremy is now going to wake up with no Easter eggs tomorrow and it was all because you hit the bunny.” Jake cackled out almost crying with laughter. “Okay if it is so funny you deal with it dad. Please take mister bunny to the vet and have its leg fixed.” Your daughter said pointing at the bunny still on the floor.
You and your daughter just went inside leaving the laughing idiot outside to deal with the poor bunny.

Fic Idea
Hangman x Single!Mother
I’ve had this idea for a while, I just don’t know if anyone would want it. Let me know.....
So they’ve been dating for a bit, but reader isn’t fully opening up. Her past relationship was pretty traumatic and doesn’t feel like her feeling and thoughts are important. Raising a child by herself was never the plan, and she doesn’t feel right asking for help. Jake realizes whats going on and steps up in every possible way.
TBH i need the fluff and it based off of my current life. Let me know if I should actually write it.

it’s all about you

pairing: jake seresin x girlfriend!reader
word count: 5.9k
warnings: allusions to smut throughout, mentions of alcohol, swearing, jake being whipped!! MDNI 18+
Tumblr media
1.
“Cookies or Brownies?” you hum, rifling through your kitchen cupboards.
“Cookies, we’re not monsters babe.” Jake replies seriously from where he’s stood behind you, checking out your ass.
You snap back up with a cheer and the brown sugar you were looking for in tow. Jake quickly diverts his gaze in favour of not getting caught and decides that your fridge magnets are suddenly the most interesting thing in the world.
His intense inspection of the little windmill stuck to your fridge has you snorting, quickly turned into a squeal when Jake pats your behind with a little more force than intended.
“Jake!”
“What?” He spins around as if to look for someone else who could have committed the offending action.
“You’re stupid.” You giggle, jutting your hip out to hit his own.
Jake reciprocates the action before finally picking up a wooden spoon and smacking it against his palm loudly.
“Where do you need me chef?”
“Fold the butter into the brown sugar,” you instruct, “softly.”
Jake rolls his eyes purposefully obnoxiously and sighs loudly, “I know.”
“Don’t make me remind you of cupcake gate.”
Jake’s attitude drops, “we agreed not to bring that up.”
“I play petty Seresin, now fold. Gently.” You sass.
Jake chuckles at your demeanour and gets to work, following your orders to complete the cookie dough.
Once complete and set to chill in the freezer, Jake goes to leave the kitchen but instead watches on in amusement as you pace around anxiously. After your third rearrangement of the trinkets on the window sill he interrupts.
“Babe, what are you doing?”
You sigh dramatically and throw yourself into his arms.
“I’m nervous.”
Jake snorts, “why?”
You pull back from where you face was smushed into his chest and pout, “don’t be mean. I’m scared they won’t like my cookies. Or me, for that matter.”
Jake’s thumb strokes absentmindedly over your cheek in an act of comfort.
“All kids like cookies. Fact.” He states, “and they’re gonna love you because they love me and I love you.”
“I don’t want to be their uncle Jake’s lame girlfriend who makes bad cookies.” You bite at your pushed out lip.
“You won’t be, now let’s bake these suckers.”
Jake pats your ass playfully as you bend down to retrieve the cookie dough.
“Put the oven on.” You order.
Jake mock salutes, “yes, chef.”
You run through about ten outfits before finally settling on what to wear, and as you brush through your hair once more, the doorbell goes.
You can hear Jake and his sister talking downstairs as well as the excited giggles of his nieces. When you finally descend the stairs Jake’s sister is smiling up at you.
“It’s great to see you again!” She gives you a one armed hug, the other holding the girls backpacks.
“You too!” You look down to where the girls are holding on to each of Jake’s hands, “and it’s great to meet you girls!”
The younger of the two immediately leaps forward and grabs onto your hand, “I’m Ellie, you’re pretty,” she singsongs.
You bend down and wipe at a smudge on her face, “Not as pretty as you!”
Ellie giggles determinedly and turns back to her mom to smile.
“Ellie, Olive, be good okay?” Jake’s sister nods her head to the two girls before looking back up to the two of you, “and thank you for looking after them on such short notice.”
Jake rolls his eyes, “you know it’s fine, now go have fun.”
“Thank you!” She smiles before kissing the girls on the heads and making her exit.
You look back down to the girls, Ellie is still clinging onto your hand with a smitten look on her face. Her golden curls are kept in two pigtails with small scrunchies. She’s adorable and can’t be older than 5.
When you avert your gaze to Olive, she seems to blush slightly. She is partially hidden by Jake’s large frame but you can still make out her blue eyes and long, mousy brown hair. She looks much older than Ellie, probably about 9 or 10. Much more reserved as well.
“It’s nice to meet you Olive!” You beam.
She nods in your direction, “hi.” It’s almost a whisper but you smile in acknowledgement anyways.
“Jakey I’m hungryyyyy,” Ellie drags out the “e” sound of her Y.
“Well that won’t do will it, Ellie bellie?” Jake teases, dropping Olive’s hand in favour of scooping Ellie up into his arms.
Olive chuckles awkwardly at the commotion and fiddles with the straps of her bag as Jake carries Ellie towards the kitchen where the cookies are almost finished. You can sense a small amount of anxiety radiating off of her, you were similar at that age. Never quite feeling in place. It suddenly becomes your duty to make sure she understands it’s okay.
“I love your hair, it’s so long!” You smile comfortingly at her, reaching out to fiddle with the ends.
She leans more into your touch and speaks quietly, “thank you, I- sometimes I think it’s kind of boring.” She shrugs.
“It’s really beautiful! I wish I could grow my hair that long,” you hum, inspecting the completely undamaged strands of hair.
Olive smiles up at you, “I just wish I could do more hairstyles with it.”
“I could braid it for you? If you would like that of course?”
“I would really like that,” Olive nods.
She lets you lead her upstairs where you sit her in front of your vanity with all your hair and makeup products. You watch fondly as she “oohs” and “ahhs” at the products on display.
“Tell me if I hurt you at all okay?” You question as you brush out her mostly untangled hair.
Olive nods in understanding, “can you do two french braids?”
“Of course!”
You sit in silence for a few moments as you brush and part her hair. You can feel her gaze on you from the mirror.
“You okay?” You hum.
“You’re really pretty, y’know? Way more than Uncle Jake.”
Her words make you giggle, “Your Uncle Jake is very handsome, why else would I be with him?” you tease.
She snorts, “I figured it wasn’t because he was clever.”
You try not to laugh too loud at her quip and bite your lip, “he has his moments.”
Olive rolls her eyes and mumbles “sure” and once calmed from your laughter you’re able to start on the first of the braids and talk to her more.
“How’s school?” You question absentmindedly.
“It’s okay,” she answers. Olive opens her mouth again as if to say something else, before closing it again.
“You can tell me,” you affirm.
“Promise you won’t tell Uncle Jake?” She asks.
“Pinky.”
She quickly intertwines her little finger with yours before beginning.
“There’s this boy,” she blushes as she sees a grin spread across your face, “he sits next to me when we do science, and he’s really cute.”
“What’s his name?” You ask, trying to keep your face neutral.
“Trey. But I don’t even think he knows my name.” She sighs.
“I’m sure he does, Olive, especially if he sits next to you.” You reassure her.
“I mean he only really talks to me to ask for help, but one time he told me he really liked my shoes.” She gushes.
“That’s a good sign Olive,” you confirm, “if a boy likes you he’ll make sure to compliment you, don’t settle for a boy who doesn’t make you feel special, promise me?”
Olive nods diligently, “promise.”
You make a little “aha” noise as you finish with the first braid and begin to move onto the second.
“Did Uncle Jake do that?” She ponders.
“Hmm?”
“Make you feel special?”
You nod your head as your fingers move nimbly through her hair, “he asked me out five times before I said yes.” you giggle in remembrance.
“Five?” Olive chuckles.
You’re not quite sure how to explain to Jake’s niece that you thought he was something of the manwhore before he finally professed his feelings for you.
“I wanted to know that he was committed,” you decide on.
“Uncle Jake really loves you. I heard him on the phone to my mom yesterday and-”
“Stop spilling all my secrets would ya?” Jake quickly interrupts, butting the door open with his foot.
Ellie is propped on his right side holding a plate of what you can assume are your cookies. She and Jake had long gone through the sheets of her My Little Pony colouring book and had decided to come find the two of you and share the cookies that were quickly depleting.
Olive giggles, “sorry Uncle Jake.”
“It’s okay kid,” he grins and plops Ellie down on your bed before coming to stand behind you. He wraps his arms around your waist and pecks you on the lips quickly.
Olive and Ellie both pull faces and Jake laughs, “I thought that’s what you wanted to do to Trey, Ollie?”
Olive gasps, “how do you know? And no I do not!”
Jake taps the side of his nose teasingly. You roll your eyes and quickly finish off her braid, flipping them over her shoulders.
“Done.” You pat her head and hope her anger will diffuse.
“Thank you,” she smiles brightly at you, but returns to shooting daggers at Jake just shortly after.
“Cookies?” He offers up as a peace offering.
Olive still keeps up her impressive pout.
“I made them babe don’t worry,” you provide.
“Well in that case,” Olive reaches for a cookie and takes a hefty bite, her eyes widen considerably, “these are so good!”
“Thank you!” You smile, brushing at the crumbs that had accumulated on her cheeks.
“These are the best cookies ever!” Ellie proclaims from where she is now chowing down on another cookie.
“Hey! I thought we said no more?” Jake frowns in faux anger, plopping down on the bed next to Ellie.
“You said that, not me!” Ellie giggles.
“You got me there, bellie.” Jake sighs in defeat.
Ellie throws herself into Jake’s arms and gives her best puppy dog eyes.
“Can we watch a movie?” She pleads.
“You wanna watch a movie, kid?” Jake pokes Olive.
Olive looks to you and you smile, “Yeah,” she nods.
An hour later, you’re all squished onto the couch watching Frozen. Ellie is long past waking up and is spread out across the “L” part of the couch snoring quietly.
You’re tucked into Jake’s side and he’s fiddling with your hand, he hasn’t been watching the screen at all. Instead, watching your features and the way Olive will point out her favourite parts and songs to you. He particularly enjoys her version of “fixer upper” which he presumed might be dedicated to him. He enjoys even more so when by the time the film ends the way that Olive is dozing off on your shoulder and the way you’re stroking softly at her arm.
“They love you,” he coos into your ear.
“I’m glad,” you hum, “I really love them.”
“Olive is never like that with anyone, she’s usually so shy.” Jake explains, placing a kiss at your temple and then tucking your head under his chin.
“I was like that too when I was her age.” You murmur as to not wake the girls, “I hope she knows how special she is.”
“You’re gonna be such a good mom someday,” he whispers down at you.
“I hope so.”

Jake had been waiting for what felt like hours. It was five minutes really. But when you had told him to go wait in the car he had expected you to be out much sooner than you were. And when you finally sat down next to him, he wasn’t all too pleased.
“Let’s go.” You hum, pulling down the mirror to apply a final layer of lip gloss.
“Is that what you’re wearing?”
“Yeah, why?” You turn, a crease forming in your brow.
Jake winces, unsure of whether to continue, “your skirt, it’s really short.”
“I guess so.” You deadpan.
A beat passes.
“Are you going to cover up?”
Jake watches as your face drops.
“Why would I do that?” You reply snappily.
Jake sighs and begins to pull his car out of the driveway.
“Because I don’t want random guys hitting on you all night.”
“How is that my problem?” You retort, anger bubbling up.
“I just don’t want them getting wrong ideas about you, that’s all.” Jake tries to reason.
“And what would those ideas be, Jake?”
Jake can sense your rising anger. He doesn’t want to be in an argument with you by the time you reach the Hard Deck. That leaves him approximately four minutes to diffuse the situation he has caused.
“Just forget I said anything, it’s fine.” Jake dismisses.
“No, I want to know what you mean.” You assert, arms coming up to cross over your chest.
“Can we just drop it?” Jake sighs after a moment, “I don’t want to fight in front of everyone.”
“We wouldn’t have to fight if you weren’t being a dick!”
Jake rolls his eyes and doesn’t dignify you with a response, angering you even further. When he finally pulls into a spot outside of the Hard Deck you turn to him and flick at his shirt that can’t have more than two buttons done up.
“You gonna do that up sweetheart? Touch revealing don’t ya think?” You spit snarkily.
With that you slam the door to the car and make your way inside without looking back. Jake watches as you beeline for Natasha and rolls his eyes when she shoots him a dirty look. It was only more ammunition for her general distaste of him.
It goes like that for the rest of the night. You avoid Jake like the plague, sticking to Nat’s side mostly near the bar top. Although, you always stay within Jake’s line of sight which is heartening for him.
Bradley seems to find the ordeal hilarious.
“What did you do to piss her off this time?” He taunts.
Jake grunts. “I told her that her skirt was too short and that she needed to change.”
Bradley’s eyes widen, “bagman even I know you’re not supposed to say shit like that.”
“Yeah, well I know that now!” Jake spits.
“Hey don’t shoot the messenger,” Bradley rolls his eyes, “just go say sorry.”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“She called me a dick.” Jake huffs.
“She’s not wrong,” Bradley offers.
Jake stays silent.
“You’re so petty.”
“Am not!”
“Are too!”
Bradley and Jake stare at one another for a moment.
“Yeah, okay maybe,” Jake relents.
He sighs and averts his gaze back where you’re sat with Nat. You’re laughing so hard at something she’s said that you’re doubled over. You really did look beautiful, and Jake hadn’t even told you because he was too worried he was gonna get jealous and be a dick. Yet he still managed to do the last part.
“I hate when you’re right,” Jake admits, handing his beer over to Bradley.
Jake begins to make his way over to you, he’s going to apologise. However, he did not account for what was going to be quite the persistent obstacle.
“Hey,” a voice blurts from in front of him.
Jake catches sight of the owner of the voice, she’s tall and just a touch too blonde to be believable. She’s pretty, sure. But not you.
“Hey,” Jake replies absentmindedly, trying to make his way around her.
She steps in front of him again, blocking you from his view and tries to start up a new conversation.
“I’m Kendra, and you are?” She smiles in what Jake supposes was seduction.
Right now all he’s really trying to figure out is if your still at the bar or not.
“Jake.” He replies, hoping it will satiate her enough to move.
“Well Jake, it is great to meet you,” Kendra hums, sticking out her hand for Jake to shake.
Jake shakes it swiftly and goes to retract his hand, Kendra keeps it in her own grasp and plays with his fingers, keeping an awkward amount of eye contact with him.
“Look Kendra, I’m sure you’re a great girl but my-”
“I love your shirt!” She interrupts, “would probably love what’s underneath more.”
Jake cringes at her line and at the way her hand is now currently moving towards the excessive amount of chest exposed by his lowly buttons. Before she can reach skin, her hand is smacked away by red polished nails that Jake would recognise anywhere.
“Hey baby,” you whisper, before throwing your arms around Jake’s neck and smashing your lips into his.
Jake is all too quick to reciprocate, letting his hands fall to your ass only just covered by the tiny skirt that Jake has suddenly taken a distinct liking to. You pull back only to catch your breath, but instead catch sight of the seething blonde still stood uncomfortably close.
“We were talking!” She insists.
“He’s busy,” you cock your head to the side in faux apology, “sorry.”
She huffs and mumbles “crazy bitch” as she storms off, you pout to try and hold in your giggles. When you turn back to Jake, it proves useless trying to hold them in when you catch sight of his mouth smothered in your pink lipgloss.
“You’re so fucking hot,” Jake breathes out.
“I’m still mad at you,” you tease.
“I’m sorry, I know I’m a jealous dick, you just look so fucking good I didn’t want anyone else to see you.” Jake explains, hands caressing at the skin at the tops of your thighs.
You snort, “I think I’m the jealous one,”
“Good, I like a change of pace sometimes,” Jake pinches softly at your skin and lets a smile grace his feature at the way you squeak.
“Should we get out of here?” You whisper, hand trailing down Jake’s chest to where his hand is resting on you.
You guide his hand underneath your skirt slowly until Jake realises the lack of barrier between his hand and your cunt.
“Fuck, baby.” Jake hums practically into your mouth from how closely you two are stood.
You step away from him swiftly and bring his hand back into yours, pulling him towards the parking lot. Jake could cry from happiness.

“If this is stupid you can just tell me, okay?” You ask from where you’re stood in front of a blindfolded Jake.
It’s his birthday today and you told him you had a surprise. He figured it would be a party, which he was thankful for but he couldn’t understand the point of the blindfold.
“Okay you can take it off now.” You instruct.
Jake all but rips the blindfold off and looks down at you to take in your attire.
“Jesus, baby.”
“Do you like it?” You question, giving him a little spin.
Jake’s mouth is agape as he watches the way you twirl, clad in the tiniest daisy dukes he thinks he’s ever seen and what can only be his flannel. The cream of your cowboy boots are subtle and suit you well.
“Like it?” Jake steps forward and shoves his hands into the small back pockets of your shorts, “I fuckin’ love it.”
Behind you, Jake can see his Stetson placed on the table, and behind that he can see into the garden where all of his friends are already drinking and chatting.
“You set this up, baby?” He nods to the glass doors.
“I had some help,” you shrug, finally moving out of his grip to grab his hat.
Jake extends his hand out for you to pass it to him, but is pleasantly surprised when you place it on your own head. He opens his mouth to speak, but your catch him before he can with a wink,
“I know the rule, cowboy.” You tease, placing your hand on his chest. “Consider it a birthday gift.”
Jake holds back a groan as you drag him outside to where he’s greeted by a chorus of “happy birthday”s and various other jokes about him getting old. It sort of shocks Jake at the amount of people there to celebrate, and he has to hold in a chuckle as he sees a number of your friends already beelining for the group of pilots nursing beers on the decking.
Bradley is quick to find Jake as the party gets into full swing, people chatting and music playing throughout the yard.
“You’re one lucky son of a bitch,” Bradley chuckles slapping Jake on the shoulder.
Jake has been staring at you for the last 10 minutes as you twirl around with Phoenix to the varied 2000s songs that have been on loop for most of the evening.
“Don’t I know it,” Jake boasts, clinking his beer bottle against Bradley’s.
You can feel a gaze on your back as you grind onto Phoenix whilst Nelly Furtado plays, not to your shock it’s Jake, head cocked to the side with a lazy smirk on his face whilst practically ignoring everything Bradley is saying to him. You can only giggle as Phoenix makes a teasing remark about him being whipped. She wasn’t wrong.
You make you way towards the boys slowly, smiling as you catch the end of their conversation.
“Whatcha talking about?” You goad, as Jake pulls you back against his chest already.
“You.” Bradley answers truthfully.
“All bad I suppose?” You bait.
“Oh the worst,” Jake fills in, pinching at the meat of your thigh playfully.
Deciding not to prod further, you turn in Jake’s grip to face him and plant a sloppy kiss on his face. It makes Jake laugh and Bradley mock gag, rolling his eyes and making his way towards Phoenix. Jake captures your lips with his a few more times, hands wandering dangerously low towards your ass before you pull away with a wink, and also slight fear of traumatising your guests.
“Patience is a virtue,” you remind Jake, he simply groans in response.
The rest of the night goes as such, Jake gets cornered into conversations, his eyes wander to you, you tease him some way or the other, Jake is left half hard whilst talking to an admiral. It’s uncomfortably delicious and Jake cannot wait for his last birthday gift.
At 1:30 AM, the only stragglers left are the dagger squad, drunkenly swaying around Jake’s backyard and singing horrific variations of “Slow Ride” to annoy him. It doesn’t even work, because Jake knows he has something so sweet waiting for him. However, his patience is wearing thin and considering these are the people closest to him, he has no qualms with speaking his mind.
“Alright, y’all time to get going,” he announces, herding everyone out.
Bob had been kind enough to offer to drive everyone home, and Jake was keen to take him up on it, helping Bob strap in their drunk friends with alarming efficiency.
“Hey! What’s the rush birthday boy?” Javy slurs as Jake buckles his seatbelt.
“He wants birthday sex!” Nat whisper shouts into Javy’s ear, with emphasis on the shout.
The truck erupts in whoops and crude hollers towards Jake and only Bob can offer him an apologetic smile.
“Good luck,” Jake pats Bob on the back.
“You too.” Bob replies with a laugh, eyes glancing quickly to where you’re stood on the porch, hip popped out against one of the wooden beams.
Jake all but sprints back to you, hauling you up into his arms, forcing you to wrap your legs around his waist. You move to place his stetson on his own head, but Jake stops you.
“Nuh-uh sweetheart, you ride the cowboy, you gotta wear the hat.” He smirks, kicking the front door shut behind him.
“Seems fair.” You hum after a moment.
And when Jake walks into the changing rooms on Monday morning, taking off his shirt to reveal hideous claw marks down his back. No one bats an eye.

Jake had experienced what one could only describe as a clusterfuck of a day.
To start off the day, his alarm hadn’t gone off, meaning he had to sprint to his car and run a red light on the way to work. What was worse than the impending ticket that he was going to receive was the fact that he hadn’t even been able to kiss you goodbye like he does every morning.
It set him up badly. Jake Seresin was never one for superstitions but you were clearly his lucky charm. Proved so even further by the way his concentration was lacking in the flight simulations he was running. Then when they were up in the air, Jake was missing every opportunity to shoot down Maverick, messing up every manoeuvre and just generally souring his already damp mood.
To top it all off, the pièce de résistance, when Jake finally made it back to the changing rooms, itching to change out of his sweaty flight suit. His bag was sat open, clothes sopping wet whilst two of the newbies stood guiltily next to a broken shower head.
He almost blew his lid. Almost. But then he pictured getting back to you, falling into your arms after this tragic day and finally being able to relax. So for once, Jake decided to keep his mouth shut. He picked up his sopping bag and silently stalked out of the room.
When Jake reached his truck and listened to the way his bag squelched as he set it down, he held in another groan of frustration. The sun was still beating down and his sweaty flight suit was clinging to him in all the wrong places. Deep breath in, clench the steering wheel too hard, deep breath out. It was a 15 minute drive. He could do that for God’s sake.
Jake’s 15 minute drive quickly became a 45 minute one when he found out the road he was supposed to be taking was closed due to a burst pipe. The sky was a dusky purple as he finally pulled up outside your house. Jake can see that the light is on in the kitchen as well as your figure moving around languidly.
Jake slams the car door probably too loudly and rushes to the door. When he opens it, Jake is greeted with the loud sounds of your 90s playlist blasting throughout the house, he can hear you voice - although somewhat out of tune - belting along as well.
It makes him smile, for the first time on that horrid day. Jake’s bag of damp clothes are forgotten by the door as he quickly shucks himself of his boots and makes his way towards the kitchen. He opens the door to the sight of you wiggling your hips to Santana whilst holding a spatula and pushing around some type of stir fry.
You continue your movements, but turn at the sound of someone entering, a large smile gracing your face once you realise who it is.
“Hey, handsome,” you preen, dancing your way towards him.
Jake can’t help but chuckle at you movements, but he quickly falls limp once your wrap your arms around his neck. His large arms wrap around your waist tightly, engulfing you in him. You take note of Jake’s subdued demeanour, and raise one of your hands to scratch at the hair at his neck just like you know he loves.
“You okay, babe?” you hum, swaying him slightly.
“Shit day,” he groans out, leaning further into your touch.
“You wanna talk about it?” You continue your ministrations.
“Later.” He huffs, “Just wanna be with you.”
Jake’s sweet words make you melt into him further, burying your face into his chest. The arms of his flight suit were tied around his waist, only his tight black undershirt covering the expanse of his chest. He smelt like a combination of jet fuel, sweat and his cologne that he’d hurriedly sprayed in the morning. It should probably be off putting but it was so undeniably Jake that it was addictive. You inhale again as you place a chaste kiss against his pec.
“Are you sniffing me?” Jake chuckles.
“You smell so good,” you can only groan out, smushing your face into him again.
Jake leans back and takes your face in his hands,
“I’ve not even showered, I stink,” he chuckles incredulously.
“You still smell so good,” you whine, lips forming a pout.
“That means we’re meant to be or something, my pheromones get you going huh?” Jake teases.
“Never say pheromones again,” you roll your eyes and wiggle out of his grip to lower the heat under the pan you were searing the food in.
Jake follows you diligently, arms wrapping around your waist so he can cling to you as you move about the kitchen. Once bored of your movements, Jake swiftly lifts you up to sit at the counter top.
“Jake!” You swat at his chest, “we need to plate up the food,” you remind him.
“It can wait,” he decides, leaning in to connect his lips to yours.
It’s what he’d been waiting for all day. The pillow of your lips on his, the way you melt into his touch. One strong hand caressing the side of your face and the other gripping at your hip. You rest one hand on his chest, the other at the back of his neck, guiding his face to yours over and over again. Jake feels like a teenager again, making out with his girlfriend on the kitchen counter top. Except his 16 year old self would probably lose his mind trying to figure out how he ended up with someone like you.
Once you’d let Jake’s tongue explore your mouth in a kiss that had lasted far too long, you finally pull back to catch your breath.
“You want food?” you question with a smile.
“Please,” Jake hums as you hop off the counter. He smacks at your ass you walk away from him, “I’m starving.”
You roll your eyes fondly, and get to plating up the food. Jake isn’t too keen on letting you out of his grip, so you sit in his lap as you eat, feeding him and yourself at the same time. It’s nice, his strong grip is comforting and Jake appreciates how eager you are to listen to his rant about his shitty day.
“I was missing you all day, baby,” Jake murmurs, kissing at the side of your neck.
“I always miss you, Jake,” you smile earnestly, “now go shower and I’ll wash the plates.”
Jake allows you out of his grip so you can stand and move back around the kitchen, he shadows you once again, moving in tandem with his hands never leaving you.
“I thought you were going to shower?” You question, placing the last dish in the dishwasher.
“I don’t wanna leave you,” he whines.
You sigh, holding in your smirk as you turn to face him. “You wanna shower together?”
Jake has never looked so giddy as he practically races up the stairs, shirt flying off as he climbs the steps.
“You’re insatiable!” You yell after him.
“Only for you!” He yells in return.

“I’ve thought a lot about what I could say right now,” Jake clears his throat.
He’s not nervous. In fact he doesn’t think anything has ever been so clear in his mind.
“I think usually when people do these things they tell memories or defining moments about their relationship, but the truth is. Every goddamn moment since I met you, I knew this was the only possible outcome.”
Jake looks down to where your sat with your shared friends and family, you look like a dream really. He’d been antsy about not seeing your dress, but now he was glad he’d waited.
“Y’know she turned me down five times before finally agreeing to go out with me?” Jake chuckles into the mic he’s holding.
Laughter rings out through the guests but Jake’s gaze never wavers from you. You’re rolling your eyes at him with a smile on your face, letting out a giggle as Jake’s mom squeezes your hand.
“I don’t blame her, I was kind of a mess. I’d just been stationed back here on North Island, and Javy was my only friend because I was a dick.”
The dagger squad, raise their glasses in a cheers to Jake’s statement, cracking the room up again.
“I never thought Rooster would be sat at my table at my wedding, I’ll admit that.” Jake laughs out.
Bradley in return whoops and raises a hand in salute to Jake.
“He’s single by the way ladies,” Jake winks to your elderly grandmother.
“Anyways, as I was saying, total dick, with a lacking moral compass and even more so in my emotions. I was kind of betting on getting the mission done and going back to wherever the hell I was stationed and moving on. Then I ended up pissing off the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen by pouring a drink down her shirt, and she chewed me out worse than any admiral I’d ever crossed.”
“It was expensive!” You quickly yell out in defence.
“As you can see, I’m still making up for it,” Jake teases, “but from that moment onwards I realised I needed to get my act together. My pea brain was shocked that a woman would cuss me out like that, and I immediately fell in love with her. Which probably makes me sound crazy but seriously, being around you for five minutes makes you want to be a better person, and being around you for this long has made me a better man.”
Jake’s smile can only widen when your glossy eyes meet his, “Rooster once told me I was a lucky son of a bitch to have you, and as annoyingly as always. He was right. I don’t know how or why you agreed to be my girlfriend, and it’s a godsent miracle that I get to call you my wife. You’re the best person in every room - sorry everyone - and the most beautiful person always. I love you, which you already know, but I just wanted to say it again,” Jake exhales.
Jake raises his glass in a final toast, “to my beautiful wife, the new Mrs Seresin.”
Glasses clink around the room and Jake almost misses you beelining for him throughout all the commotion. Your arms wrap swiftly around his neck, pulling his lips against yours. You kiss him softly, before pulling back to whisper to him,
“You know I love you so fucking much right?”
“Of course I do, baby,” Jake hums.
“You’re the best man I know,” you smile, leaning in to his lips again.
Jake dips you as you kiss, feeding off of the theatrics as people holler. People are standing and moving towards the dance floor as he brings you back up, forehead pressed against your own.
“Do you know how hot it is that you’re my wife?” He smirks.
“Mrs Seresin does have a nice ring to it,” you decide.
“The best, actually,” Jake replies, as he’s dragged towards the dance floor by Javy.

“What the fuck are you doing here?” Jake says with a look of disgust – as much of it as he can muster. You, after all, have been his greatest source of misery as of late.
You give him a dirty look – your specialty – and barge into his home as though you own the place and Jake’s just a goddamn doorman. “I need to lay low for a bit.”
Jake narrows his eyes as he turns to face you. He keeps the door open because he’s still hoping you’re going to leave any minute. “Lay low?” he asks mockingly. “What’d you do? Commit murder?” He wouldn’t be surprised.
You peek around his arm to glance out at the street. “Someone’s looking for me.”
Jake watches you impassively. “Is it the police?” Then, after a moment, he adds, “Is there a reward?”
You roll your eyes. “You’re the only one in this neighbourhood that I trust,” you say, pushing on the door that Jake is obstinately keeping open.
Jake nods. “Shame that trust doesn’t go both ways,” he comments contemptuously.
You eye him irritably. “Close the door.”
“Tell me why you’re here.”
“I just did.”
Jake shakes his head. “You could not have been more vague.”
You sigh. “Close the door and I’ll tell you.”
Jake exhales warily and shuts the front door. He surveys your outfit. “What are you wearing?”
You glance down at your ensemble: a black, form-fitting body suit and fishnet stockings. You’re also sporting knee-high boots and you’ve got what looks like six extra arms coming out of your back. You look back up at him with an annoyed expression on your face. “It’s Halloween,” you snap defensively.
Jake grimaces. “Yeah, I know.” He gestures to a cauldron full of candy sitting near the front door. “There’s gonna be a fuck-tonne of children coming through here trick-or-treating in like half an hour and you’re dressed like a gothic porn star.”
Instead of being offended, you lift your eyebrows in surprise. “You’re handing out candy?”
Jake sighs and places his hands on his hips, fixing you with a stern look. “Yeah, I’m handing out candy. That’s what adults do on Halloween.”
You stare at him as a smile materializes on your face. “Is that your costume?” you ask facetiously, gesturing at his checkered polo shirt. “Adult?”
Jake squares his jaw to mask the fact that he found your joke humorous, but you seem to notice the shift in his features because your own grin broadens. “My mom got me this shirt,” he says.
“Ah,” you respond. “A fellow adult.”
Jake tears his gaze away from you, focusing instead on the shiny, pointed toes of your stilettos. “Why’re you here?” he asks again, this time a lot less peevishly and a lot more grimly.
You bend down to unzip your boots. “I’m a spider,” you say. “Black widow.”
Jake glances up to meet your gaze as you straighten up. He nods. “Suits you.”
You give him a flat look. “I was at the bus stop and some dude started harassing me.”
Jake’s eyes trail down your scantily glad body. “You don’t say,” he remarks sarcastically.
Your jaw drops in outrage. “Are you victim blaming?”
Jake chuckles and shakes his head. “It was a joke.”
You cringe. “It was in poor taste.”
Jake closes his eyes and lets out a tired sigh. He’s had about enough of your attitude. “You wanna talk about poor taste?” he asks. “Where’s that lovely boyfriend of yours?”
You watch him sourly. “We’re not together anymore, if you must know,” you reply.
Truth be told, Jake probably didn’t need to know. But, now that he does, it’s only fitting that he respond with, “Shocking.”
You give him the finger. As if he were the one who’d been dating two people at the same time.
There’s a knock on the door. “Fuck,” he mutters, giving you a moody look. “Hide,” he says. “Unless you’d rather traumatize a bunch of eight-year-olds.”
You grimace at him. “You think eight-year-olds haven’t seen worse?”
Jake scans the low-cut neckline of your costume. He can’t think of anything more erotic if he tried. But, if he’s being honest, it’s not the outfit so much as your insane body that’s the culprit. He reaches out to grab your hand and pull you aside, making sure you’re tucked safely behind the door before opening it.
He smiles down at the two little kids on his porch when they yell, “TRICK-OR-TREAT!” at the top of their lungs.
“Well, well, well,” he says cheerily, bending down to grab a handful of candy out of his cauldron. “Who do we have here?” He puts the candy into one of their bags. “Are you a mermaid?”
The girl nods happily.
Jake wows in amazement. “You’re the prettiest mermaid I’ve ever seen!” He bends down to grab another handful of candy and drops it into the second child’s bag. “And you must be Iron Man!” he exclaims. “That’s one cool costume, bud. You look great!”
When Jake finally closes the door and looks at you, he sees that you’ve got your arms folded over your chest and a giant smirk on your face.
“What?” he asks darkly.
Your smile widens. “That was cute.”
Jake takes a step from the door and looks away from you. He’s not about to get sucked back into your web of lies, no pun intended. “You wanna hand some out?” he asks.
“I thought you don’t want me traumatizing the children,” you respond sarcastically, stepping out of the corner toward him.
Jake glances at you with a small smile. “I can give you some clothes, if you like.”
You wiggle your eyebrows. “Adult clothes?”
Jake rolls his eyes. “Come on, before more kids show up.”
He makes his way into his bedroom and grabs a pair of jogging pants and t-shirt and brings them back out for you. “Bathroom’s down the hall,” he says.
“I remember,” you respond, but you’ve already started to remove your bodysuit.
Jake turns away in alarm and holds out the clothes for you. “Do you?”
“Come on, it’s not like you haven’t seen it all before,” you say. “Shoot, I’m not wearing any underwear.”
Jake groans. “Are you for fucking real?”
“You got a pair of boxers?”
Jake swallows uncomfortably. “Hold this,” he instructs, keeping a hand over his eyes as he hands you the crumpled clothes and starts back for his bedroom.
“You know what? I’ll just go commando.”
Jake takes a deep, cleansing breath and turns back toward you. He keeps his eyes closed and holds a hand out so as not to bump into anything as he walks. Of course, as luck would have it, he stumbles into you.
“What the fuck, dude?” you exclaim as his hands cling to your naked body, steadying you so you don’t fall over.
Jake squeezes his eyes tightly so that they don’t open inadvertently. “Sorry, sorry!” he winces, finally stabilizing both himself and you. He feels the softness of your skin underneath his palms as his hands do a final sweep along your back before he lifts them away from your body with a grimace. He’s bracing himself for a punch in the face.
“Are you a dumbass? Open your eyes!” you screech. “You’ve seen me naked how many times?!”
“Twelve,” he responds, a little hoarsely. All he can think about is how smooth your skin felt in his hands not a moment ago and it’s driving him a little mad.
“It was a rhetorical question,” you say pointedly. “You counted?”
“Are you decent yet?” he asks, clearing his throat.
“I’m never decent,” you mutter under your breath and Jake can’t help but smirk. “But if you’re asking whether or not I’m dressed. Then, yes, I am.”
Jake releases a heavy sigh and opens his eyes cautiously.
You scowl at him. “What, you think I’m tricking you?”
“Well, you aren’t treating me.”
You stare at him coolly. “You’re such a delight. Can’t imagine why we ever broke up.”
“Need a reminder?” he calls as you make your way back into the front hall. “It’s because you cheated on me!”
You’re standing at the front door with your arms crossed. “I didn’t cheat, for the last time,” you retort. “We weren’t exclusive.”
Jake presses his lips into a thin line. “I was exclusive.”
You shake your head in frustration. “Let’s just agree to disagree.”
“Fine.”
“Great.”
There’s another knock on the door. You sigh irritably and reach for the doorknob.
“Hello!” you exclaim enthusiastically the moment the door is open.
The mob of children on Jake’s doorstep all look up at you with exuberant grins and yell their opening line in a loud, messy chorus.
You react with an animated gasp. “Oh my goodness! You guys are a frightful bunch!”
The kids laugh. Indeed, they’re dressed as zombies, ghosts, and vampires, and, when you comment on their appearance, they growl and make scary faces at you. Jake smiles at them and then at you as you distribute the candy from the cauldron excitedly.
Once the door is closed, however, you drop the act, giving him an icy look as you settle yourself on the little bench near the door.
Jake fights the urge to sit next to you and maybe get a little lost in the smell of your perfume. He still gets a whiff of it from time to time when he walks by his closet. Which reminds him –
“I have your sweater,” he says awkwardly.
You glance up at him coldly. “Well, why didn’t you give it to me? It’d probably look better than this.” You tug on the hem of the t-shirt he gave you.
Jake doubts it; the fact that he could see your nipples through the fabric of his own shirt is even more of a turn on than your low-cut bodysuit had been. But he responds with, “Probably. But I’m not about to let you change again.”
You snort. “Fair.”
Jake wonders just how detrimental sitting next to you might be to his personal journey of recovery. He figures that you also would prefer that he stay as far away from you as possible. Ultimately, however, he decides that it’s his bench, after all, and that he’ll be sharing it with you and not the other way around. And, with regard to getting over you, well, he can try again tomorrow.
Jake makes his way over to the bench and you eye him cautiously as he approaches. Silently, you slide to make room for him. He gulps nervously and lowers himself onto the seat beside you.
“What were you doing at the bus stop, anyway?” he asks, staring down at his own clasped hands because he can’t handle looking at you when you’re sitting so close.
“Frank and I were on our way to a party,” you respond sullenly.
Jake glances up at you despite himself. “Thought you two broke up.”
You meet his gaze and promptly look away – apparently, you’re not too keen on engaging in eye contact at this proximity either. “We did,” you say curtly. “About an hour ago.”
Jake raises his eyebrows. “An hour ago?”
“We had a fight on the way. I hopped out of the car at a red light.”
Jake leaps out of his seat. “Are you crazy?” he exclaims. “Do you have any idea how dangerous that is?”
You give him an amused look. “Don’t you fly jets for a living?”
Jake gapes at you incredulously. “I trained for that,” he retorts.
You let out a small laugh. “You’re right,” you reply. “I should’ve practiced first.”
Jake draws a hand over his mouth. “Okay, so you got out of the car in the middle of traffic,” he says with a wince. “And he, what? Just let you go?”
You shrug. “Wouldn’t you?”
Jake raises his eyebrows. “In what you were wearing? I wouldn’t even let you go to the bathroom by yourself.”
You stare at him with a grin. “That’s a bit excessive.”
“Yeah?” he asks. “How many guys made passes at you before you finally decided that taking the bus home wasn’t the brightest idea?”
You lower your gaze without responding.
“As if that douchebag just left you,” Jake says angrily.
“Well, I wasn’t being very nice.”
“There’s a surprise.”
You eye him dangerously.
“You could’ve gotten hurt,” Jake says. “This isn’t the safest neighbourhood.”
You suck in your cheeks and nod. “Yeah, I was pretty freaked out actually,” you admit. “There was a group of guys following me and they kept making lewd comments. When I got to the bus stop, they sort of surrounded me…”
You trail off and Jake’s hands curls into fists of their own volition. “I could kill your boyfriend.”
“Ex,” you remind him.
“Whatever,” he says. After a moment, he asks, “Are you okay?”
You nod. “I pretended to call someone – you actually,” you say with a laugh. “I had a whole fake conversation with you on my way over. They lost interest in me after a little while and took off.”
He watches you solemnly. “You could’ve actually called me,” he says.
Your face turns skeptical. “Right. And you’d pick up?”
Probably not. “Of course,” he responds. Then he sighs and shakes his head. “Maybe I wouldn’t.”
“It’s fine,” you say. “I wouldn’t blame you.”
Jake sighs and sits back down beside you.
Several more groups of trick-or-treaters come and go and you and him take turns answering the door. Occasionally, both of you jump up at the same time and end up oohing and aahing in unison at the various costumes that grace Jake’s doorstep.
This activity does little to help quell the feelings he’s tried for months to repress. He remembers grudgingly the night he told you he was falling for you and you telling him that you weren’t ready for that kind of commitment. That’s when he found out that he wasn’t the only one you’d been seeing.
In your defense, it’s not something you had been actively hiding. In fact, you probably thought that Jake was also sleeping around, given his reputation. But Jake caught feelings like an idiot and was heartbroken when you finally showed your cards.
He spent nearly a year convincing himself that you’re absolute scum. Yet, here you are, looking cute as a button in his joggers and t-shirt, laughing giddily at the neighborhood children like you’re some kind of sweetheart. Like you could fool him now.
Jake slumps back down on the bench, trying to interact with you as little as possible. He can sense that you’re starting to win him over again, and he can’t have that happen. He will not be seduced.
You sit beside him with a grand sigh and lean your head back against the wall. “You get a lot of kids here,” you say lightly.
“Mm-hm,” he hums, bending forward to rest his arms on his legs.
“I’m getting hungry,” you say. “You?”
Jake closes his eyes. The last thing he needs is a fucking dinner date with you. “There are some leftovers in the fridge. You can go heat some up for yourself.”
You lay a hand on his back and Jake goes rigid. “You’re not going to eat?” you ask.
“Not hungry,” he manages to say.
Your hand slides unhurriedly down his spine, your fingers grazing him delicately. Jake brings a fist to his mouth to suppress a moan. “I’ll wait, then,” you say softly. Then, before Jake can gather the strength to remove himself from the situation, you lean your body into his and rest your head on his shoulder.
Jake sits very still, trying to decide how best to navigate this turn of events.
“Do you ever miss me?” you murmur faintly.
Jake turns his head to look down at your face while his heart springs into his throat to constrict his breathing. “What are you doing?” he asks huskily.
Your eyes stare deeply into his. “I’m just wondering,” you whisper.
Jake sighs and rubs his forehead. “You just broke up with Frank.”
Your eyes start to fill with tears. “I miss you.”
“Fuck,” Jake mutters and straightens his back. His head drops like a deadweight against the drywall in behind.
You’re displaced in the process but, once he’s situated, you slowly move closer, until your head is resting over his chest.
Jake grits his teeth but wraps his arm around you and, in response, you lay your arm over his abdomen. He can feel your fingers twist into the fabric of his shirt. He tightens his embrace around your shoulders and curses some more, in silence this time. What is it about you that he just can’t resist?
You lift your head off his chest so you can be face to face with him. Jake tries very hard not to lock eyes with you because that would likely be the end of him. “Jake,” you say in a wispy sort of tone and Jake instantly loses that fight. He meets your gaze, and your eyes entrance him. “I want you to kiss me,” you breathe.
Jake can almost taste the citrus of your perfume; it hangs over you like a veil. He can already hear your melodic moans; he knows what you sound like when he touches you. He can feel the rise and fall of your chest, the ardent urging of your hands as they slip underneath his shirt.
But what he can’t do is kiss you.
Your lips… your lips are all he can think about. He wants you more than anything in the world but you’re not here the same way he’s here; you’re just passing through while he’s here to stay.
You come impossibly close, aching for just a split second of contact. “Don’t you want to?” you whisper.
Jake can hardly stand being this close to you. “Why are you doing this?” he asks in a low, uneven voice.
You gulp and the tip of your nose brushes his. “I want to be with you, Jake,” you whimper, your fingers digging persistently into his ribs. Your travelling hands ignite a chain of pyrotechnics under his skin that sort of set his entire chest ablaze. “Don’t you want that?”
If only you knew how much. He shakes his head, cupping your cheek in his hand. “How can that be? When you’ve only been single for an hour?”
Your eyes start to sparkle. “You don’t believe me?”
He’ll never believe a word you say. But that doesn’t make him want you any less. He catches the tears that stream down your face with his thumb.
“I never got over you, Jake,” you say, clasping your hand over his on your cheek. “I think about you all the time.”
Jake leans his head into yours and grips your hand in his. If you’re telling the truth, he sympathizes. But, more likely than not, every word coming out of your mouth is fiction.
You push him away and sit up straight, wiping at your tears. “I never meant to hurt you,” you say. “I made a mistake. I realized that the moment you left. And I was too proud to go after you.”
Jake grimaces. “So, you dated Frank for ten months?”
You shrug. “On and off. He cheated on me, so…” you trail off with a cynical laugh. “Got what I deserved.”
Jake furrows his brows. “You don’t deserve that.”
You glance up at him with renewed hope. “I don’t deserve you,” you say with a strangled sigh. “I know that. And you know that, obviously. Which is why you won’t kiss me.”
Jake shakes his head.
“I know that it’s long over, Jake. I’m not delusional,” you say, your eyes so penetrating it feels like they’re clawing right into his soul. “And, I swear, I did not come here for this. It’s just, seeing you again – and your fucking disgustingly adorable adult shirt – handing out candy like a well-adjusted member of society – it reminded me what I missed out on.”
Jake lifts his eyebrows. “A lame, costume-less, party-less Halloween?”
You smile. “It’s not lame. It’s perfect.”
Jake watches you wretchedly. You may look innocent sitting before him in his very own baggy joggers and t-shirt with your dizzyingly beautiful eyes. But you are a fucking black widow. With a venomous bite. And sweet lips that spew lies, webs of which he could never untangle. Poison on the tongue. Toxic to the bone. Fatal. “You’re perfect,” he says.
You gaze at him tenderly, waiting for your moment to strike. Jake is waiting too. There’s no use fighting it, he lost the moment he met you. And he’ll lose as many times as it will take to win you for good.

You were late. Bob was going to kill you. Your brother was a stickler when it came to being on time. It came as no surprise to anyone in your family that he had gone into the military.
You rushed through the door, purse strap getting caught on the handle and you tugged it free, chest rising as you spun around, searching for Bob. He stood in the corner of the coffee shop, pristine in a khaki uniform, eyes wide behind his wire glasses.
“Hi Ducky,” he said as you tossed yourself into his arms, breathing in his familiar scent. He felt like home, even though it had been years since you and Bob had lived under the same roof. You had been barely a teen when Bob left for the Naval Academy, and his stints on land were far and few between after. His assignment to Top Gun was the first time he had settled somewhere on a more permanent basis. It’s why you decided to move to San Diego after college. All of your friends had scattered around the country – grad school in New York, policy analysts in Washington, even one friend had taken an internship with an art dealer in Miami. But you had packed up and left Tennessee with one goal. Be closer to your brother.
“Bobby,” you grinned, stepping back to admire him. Every time you saw him it was months apart and so much had changed, but also so little. He was the same Bob who had thrown you over his shoulder to win the family flag football game on Thanksgiving. The same Bob who had carried your book bag for you when you were in elementary school and he was a middle schooler and went a mile out of his way every morning to make sure you got to your homeroom class safe and sound. The Bob who always picked up, day or night, when you called. The Bob who listened to you weep about your college boyfriend who broke your heart. The Bob who took care of you when you were seven and had the flu and your mom was working a double shift at the hospital and couldn’t stay home with you.
“Ducky,” he said, dropping your hands. The familiar nickname on his tongue brought forward a flood of memories: spring weekends flying kites in the nearby park, sitting on the back of a tandem bike with Bob on a trip to Florida to visit your grandparents, the fort the two of you made the one time it snowed two feet in Tennessee in under a day in March. “This is my squad. Guys, meet my sister, Y/N.”
You tore your gaze from Bob, looking over at the table he was gesturing to, a smile plastered on your face. A beautiful brunette with pearly white teeth and a tight bun was on the far left. That was Phoenix. You had received a handful of letters from Bob talking about her. Next to Phoenix was a handsome, bulky man with a mustache in a plain blue t-shirt. Wow, he was gorgeous.
Your eyes shifted over one more, breath halting in your throat as your gaze slowly crept up. First you spotted the dog tags. Eerily familiar, but then again, a lot of military guys wore dog tags, right?
Then the chin. Ridiculously cut jaw, slight bifurcated butt chin that you had found weirdly adorable two nights before. Plump, pink lips, puckered up in a grin. You felt your heart sink. There was only one thing left. You raised your eyes to his. Clear, seafoam green. An ocean in two small orbs. He smiled as you screamed internally.
Bob’s voice drew you out of your coma. “That’s Bradley.” The mustache man waved a hand. “And Jake Seresin. Hangman.”
Jake. Your stomach did a somersault.
Last time you had seen him, you had been teetering on the edge of drunk, standing outside of the bar with one hand on the railing, the salty ocean wind licking at the sweat on your collarbone, flicking the ends of your hair up against your chin.
The next moment, his tongue was on your throat, in your mouth, fingers in your hair, pressing your body against the railing of the deck as you whimpered into his lips.
You had crept out of bed before he woke up. Just a gorgeous, tan, muscular back sticking out beneath crisp white sheets as you tugged on your short dress and called an Uber. You had expected to never see him again.
And here he was, smirking at you as your brother’s gaze narrowed.
You had fucked up. Correction. You had fucked Jake Seresin. And that was a major fuck up.
***
Bob had never been the type to have a huge friend group, or any close friends really. So the first time he called from Top Gun, giddy with excitement, you had been elated for him. Your brother deserved a tightly knit friend group.
Before you had moved to San Diego, Bob had filled you in on the group’s antics. Their flights, their wild nights out, the dynamics. But he had centered mostly on Phoenix and Rooster.
Jake had conveniently been left out of the majority of the conversation.
“Well?” Bob asked as the two of you headed back to his house in your rental car. “What do you think of the group?”
“They’re nice,” you said.
“That’s it? Nice?”
You sighed. “I’m really happy for you, Bobby. You have a good group of friends. I know that’s what you always wanted.”
Bob leaned back against the seat. You were the one person that Bob confided in. He was an open book and you could read him with one glance. Looking over, you spotted his furrowed brow, the tense way he was squeezing his knuckles together.
“Are you OK?” you asked, turning your eyes back toward the road, slowing down to take a right turn.
“Tell me you didn’t move here for me.”
“Then I’d be lying.”
“Y/N,” Bob said. His voice had taken on Big Brother™ mode. “You shouldn’t have done that.”
“Don’t you want me around?” you whispered.
“Of course I do,” Bob replied. “I just don’t want you to waste your life following me.”
“Living in California a waste?” you asked. “No way.”
“What’s the plan, Duck?”
“Not everyone was born potty trained and with a plan, Bobby.”
“You’re twenty-three,” he countered. “It’s time to be an adult and figure out what you’re doing with your life.”
“You sound like mom.”
“And we both know she’s never wrong.”
You sighed. “Just because you got your life together at seven doesn’t mean I have to.”
“Duck—”
You cut him off. “Bobby, please. It’s been a week. Give me a little time and I promise, I'll figure out what I’m doing. Just be my brother, OK, instead of acting like my dad.”
That silenced him. Bob had taken your father’s disappearance harder than you had. He put on a brave face. He stepped up. He became the man of the house. But that meant that he had taken it upon himself to be your brother and your dad. So even at twenty three he still saw you as a child.
The two of you drove the rest of the way back to Bob’s house in silence. Inside, you were just about to close the door to your guest bedroom when Bob’s voice floated down the hall.
“By the way,” he said, “I told the squad we’d go out for drinks with them tonight. It’s Jake’s birthday.”
You grimaced. “Sounds good.”
“Leave at nine?”
“Sure.” You closed the door, plopping down on the bed face first. You had moved to San Diego to figure your life out. And of course the first thing you had done was have a one night stand with one of Bob’s teammates. If he had been anyone else in the world you would have been able to avoid him.
What do you get someone for their birthday when you hoped you’d never see them again?
***
“Floyd!”
You turned at the same time as Bob. Bradley grinned. “Oh this is going to get confusing.”
“Here.” Natasha pointed to the bar stool next to her. “Have a seat. Boys will get you a drink. Bradshaw?”
Bradley tipped his head. “On it, ma’am.”
She rolled her eyes as you settled into the seat, crossing your legs beneath the short skirt. “So, Y/N. Bob’s told me all about his little sister. But he left out that you were coming to live here.”
“I’m not much of a planner.”
Phoenix laughed. “The anti-Bob. I like you already.”
“He’s told me a lot about you,” you replied. “And Bradley.”
“And nothing about Jake I’m guessing?” You nodded and Phoenix took a sip of her beer. “Trust me when I say, you don’t want to even go there.”
“Are you speaking from experience?”
Phoenix craned her neck around, making sure the two of you were out of earshot before nodding. “Just steer clear of him. That’s my suggestion. Hangman is fun for a night. But things get messy quick. And he and Bob have a little bit of a history.”
You frowned. “What kind of history?”
Just as Phoenix opened her mouth to respond, Bradley pressed a beer into your open hand. “Ducky.”
You grimaced. “Bobby, you didn’t!”
He shrugged. “Sorry.”
You rolled your eyes. “I’m so going to eat your last Pop-Tart tomorrow just to get you back for that.”
“Fill us in, will you?” Phoenix asked.
“When she was four, Y/N became obsessed with those little yellow rubber ducks that you put in your bath.” You groaned as your brother recounted the full story. How you had thrown a fit when your mother had tried to take you out of the bath and the only thing to calm you had been to fill your bed with the rubber ducks. And how the next morning that continued, one rubber duck gripped firmly in your chubby hand as you ate breakfast, went to the park, tagged along to the grocery store, went to daycare. This continued for weeks.
You didn’t want to admit to the team that you still had a rubber duck stuffed inside your suitcase back at Bob’s house. It was a safety net of sorts.
“Sorry, Duck,” Bob said, squeezing your shoulders and placing a small peck on the top of your head.
You looked up at him. His cheeks were flushed, he had a massive grin on his face. He was happy. All you had wanted in as long as you could remember was for Bob to be happy. He took your happiness more seriously than his own. It was time you returned the favor.
“Am I interrupting?” All eyes turned to Jake. He had on a tight black t-shirt and a pair of jeans with cowboy boots peeking out the bottom. He shot a grin your way and you did your best to avoid his eye contact.
“Happy birthday, Hangman.” There was a chill in Bob’s voice, or perhaps you were reading into it because of what Phoenix had said earlier.
Jake nodded. “Thanks, man. Anyone up for a game of darts?”
Bob dropped his hand from your shoulder, following Phoenix and Jake back toward the darts board on one end of the bar. You sat back in your seat, tipping the beer down your throat, watching as they played. There was an easy banter with all of them.
You finished your beer, the darts game still ongoing. Quietly, you slipped around the edge of the room, out the door that led to the back deck.
It was quiet outside, just the sound of the waves crashing against the hard sand and the soft hum of the music as it seeped through under the door and from behind the old windows. You laid your fingertips on the wooden railing, tipping your head back toward the moon that was slung low in the sky, feeling the cool breeze dry the sweat that had started to form on the base of your neck.
“Mind if I join?”
You turned. Jake stepped out onto the deck, a beer in one hand. He approached the railing, putting the green bottle down and smirking over at you. This time you were far less drunk. You shrugged. “It’s your birthday. Who am I to say what you can or can’t do?”
He frowned. “Don’t be like that.”
“Just because you’ve seen me naked doesn’t mean you know me.”
He looked bristled. “Y/N. I had no idea you were Bob’s sister when we met the other night. If I had known, I—”
“Wouldn’t have fucked me?”
He grimaced. “You’re the one that left without saying anything.”
You folded your arms over your chest. “It’s not like you were falling over yourself to drive me home. It was better that way and we both know it.” You allowed yourself to look up. God, he was stunning. Green, wide eyes. Tanned skin, the way his forearm flexed as he gripped the railing. You could remember the way his touch felt as he dragged his fingertips over your skin. You tried to shake the memory from your mind. “Just do me one favor.”
“Sure.”
“Don’t tell Bob,” you whispered. “Let’s just forget the other night ever happened.”
Jake’s gaze lingered. “If that’s what you want.”
You pushed up off of the railing. “It’ll be better, trust me.” You headed for the door, turning around at the last moment. Jake was still leaning against the railing, watching the waves in the dark. “Jake?”
He turned, green eyes wide. There was something almost sad about him, you thought. It was a fleeting glimpse, but you saw it.
“Happy birthday.”
He smiled. You turned, peering through the glass on the wood door. Bob had his head thrown back in a laugh as Bradley pounded against the piano keys and Phoenix danced. You smiled. Your brother was happy.
You weren’t going to ruin his perfectly crafted life by saying you had slept with one of his friends. It would be easier for everyone if you and Jake Seresin pretended you had never met before.
How would they ever catch you in your lie?

ONE
Jake and you met when you were four and him six. Forget about that whole "your moms were best friends" or "you were neighbors since you were born". No. Your mom and his first met each other at your wedding actually but that's a story for another time. Jake and you met at the park during a summer afternoon. You were playing in the sandpit, trying to build a sand castle with the little plastic bucket your dad bought for you the week before. You were trying to keep it standing tall but it would always eventually crumble and fall apart. The frustration started to build up in you and you threw the bucket away from you, crossing your arms on your chest and pouting. You were about to stand up and go find your dad but a little boy, a bit older than you stood before you. "You need to add a little bit of water." You frowned and stayed silent, watching the boy pick up your bucket and grab a bottle of water from the back pack on his shoulders.
You watched closely as he filled the bucket with sand and poured a bit of water. He stirred everything with his bare hands and he overturned the bucket on the ground before lifting it up gently. The pout on your face fell and was replaced by a surprised expression when you saw the sand stay still. You looked up at the boy with parted lips and then back down at the first tower of your castle. The boy slightly laughed at your expression and he started filling up the bucket with sand to make a new tower. You were quick to stop him by grabbing the bucket and filling it up yourself. When you were done, you reached to grab the bottle of water but he was already holding it. "Wait. You do the sand, I do the water. Team work." A smile took place on your face and you nodded excitedly.
The two of you worked perfectly together and you ended up building a big sand castle. The boy was nice, he did as he said, he let you build your castle and he only helped you with the water. When you were done with the castle, you turned to him and wrapped your arms around him, thanking him for his help. He hugged you back and contemplated your work. You pulled away from him and walk around the castle, admiring it. "I'm Jake." He introduced himself, drawing your attention back to him. "I'm Y/N." You smiled at him before you heard the ice-cream man unique melody. You turned around and saw the vending truck parking next to the park. You jumped up and down and grabbed Jake's hand before running to your dad to ask for an ice-cream. Jake smiled at the feeling of your small hand in his and he followed you, smiling politely at your father when he asked him if he also wanted an ice-cream.
TWO
You were now eighteen and getting ready for your second date with Jake. You realized you had feelings for your best friends years ago and you talked about it with him but you also wanted to graduate from high school before starting anything. You knew how much of a distraction he could be for you, even without trying to be, and you also knew that if you started a relationship with him before graduating, you wouldn't graduate at all. So you told him you wanted to wait, but what you didn't expect was that he would wait for you too. You thought he would have some dates with girls from high school and since he was two years older than you, you thought college would change his mind and that he would forget about you. But he didn't. You've never seen him with a single girl at his arm, never seen him look at any girl the way he looked at you. And when graduation day finally came, he asked you out, even asked your dad if that was okay with him if he brought you to a nice restaurant. And that's what he did, he brought you to a really nice restaurant but not too fancy. It wasn't awkward as you thought it would. You laughed, chatted and acted like you used to but there was something else. Some glances, some touches, that's what made the difference with all the other nights out.
And tonight would be your second date, he told you he'd surprise you, not to dress too fancy. So you opted for a nice sundress with a cardigan and some old school converse shoes. You heard the door bell ringing and smiled before running down the stairs, quickly kissing your dad's cheek who was holding the front door open for you. You locked eyes with Jake and smiled at him before he wrapped his arm around your shoulders and kissed your head. "You look amazing." He murmured against your hair. "Don't stay out too late, kids, okay?" Your dad made sure to remind you. "Don't worry, I'll bring her home in one piece." Jake smiled at your father, the two men always laughing together, you were glad the two of them got along. "12am, not later than. Understood?" The elder man said as Jake walked you to his truck. "Sir, yes Sir." He mock-saluted before you heard the front door close behind you. "So... Where are you taking me tonight?" You asked him as he held the passenger door open for you. "Get in the car and see for yourself." He winked and closed the door when he made sure you were comfortably seated. He jogged around the truck and sat down behind the wheel.
He turned to you and smirked before quickly glancing at the back seats. You frowned and turned your head, discovering a blanket and a bag full with food. "We're having a picnic?!" You asked excitedly when you turned back to him. He nodded, started the car and pulling it in drive before getting out of your driveway. The drive was silent but not awkward, only the radio was faintly playing the summer hits and Jake was tapping his fingers in rhythm on the steering wheel while you quietly hummed the melody. Jake eventually parked next to a lake, the sun set reflecting on the water. You grabbed the blanket and he took the bag before he led you on the lakeside, under a weeping willow. It was really nice, romantic and intimate, cutting you from the outside world. You settled everything and sat down on the blanket. Just like your first date, you laughed, talked and this time, you even cuddled on the blanket. Even though it was summer and the days were hot, the fresh air of the evening was giving you goosebumps and Jake noticed it immediately, wrapping you in his arms.
He checked his watch and saw that it was almost 11:30. He kissed your hair and leaned over to whisper in your ear. "I should get you home, I don't want your dad to cancel our weekly football training." Oh yeah, that was something else your dad and Jake shared. Since the moment Jake told him he loved and played football, your dad made sure to play with him. Jake was already part of the family at that point. You nodded and helped him getting everything back in the bag before walking to the truck. As promised, Jake got you home before 12 and he walked you to the front door. You were looking down at your feet, feeling your cheeks blushing hard by the proximity. You stopped on the porch and Jake cleared his throat. "That was really nice." You looked up at him and smiled softly, standing on your tip toes to kiss his cheek. At the last moment, Jake turned his head and your lips landed on his for a second. You pulled back, eyes wide and your face as hot as a grill. "It was." He smiled at you before taking a step closer, if that was even possible. He slid his hands on your waist and looked down at you. You realized just now how tall he was. "Was that okay with you?" He asked, a bit concerned about your silence. You simply nodded and put your hands on his shoulders. "Can I do it again?" You nodded again and he smiled gently before leaning down and tilting your head slightly back so he could have better access to your lips.
The kiss was oh so gentle, you didn't really know how to kiss him back properly so you just moved slightly your lips against his, tasting him for the first time. That only had a growl coming out of him and you grew eager to hear him do that again. You wrapped your arms around his neck and kept tasting his lips. You felt his fingers dig into your hips, earning him a small moan from your lips. And that's when he decided it was enough for tonight, he didn't want to lose control over himself on your father's porch. He pulled away and rested his forehead on yours, keeping his eyes closed. You, on the other hand, opened your eyes and searched to meet his gaze. You licked your lips, the need to keep the taste of him there, and scratched nervously at his neck. "Did I do something you didn't like?" Your voice was quivering with anxiety and he opened his eyes, finally having back the control over his own body. He smiled softly and crossed your gaze. "No... You did something I really liked, that's why I needed to stop for a moment." He felt his cheeks heating up. "Oh..." You tried to contain your cheeky smile but he saw it. "I'll call you tomorrow. Have a good night..." He whispered against your lips before pecking them and pulling away from you, taking your hands in his and squeezing them. He started stepping back but you kept one of his hands in yours, not wanting to say goodnight yet. You watched him step away from you but not looking away, the same stupid smile on his lips than on yours. You eventually felt his fingers slip from yours and he walked down the porch before glancing back at you. You smiled lovingly and waved at him before grabbing your keys and opening the front door silently not to wake up your dad. You looked back one last time and saw Jake raising his fist in the air before getting in his truck and driving away.
THREE
You grabbed the keys from Jake's hand a ran to the house in front of you, screaming excitedly. You were 26 and he was 28 at that time. You'd been together for eight years and Jake was a Top Gun graduate, you were starting your own little bookshop in town, everything was going perfectly. So you decided to finally settle down together and when you found that adorable little house in this amazing neighborhood, you couldn't resist. You and Jake moved in California, next to the Miramar base, it was easier for him and a new adventure for you. Jake followed after you, running and laughing, asking you to slow down and wait for him. But you just couldn't wait, that was your first house with Jake, the first time you would live together. And you really hope it would be your last too, that you would start a family of your own in between these walls and hear children laughter in the backyard. You unlocked the front door before feeling strong arms wrapping around your waist and lifting you up from the floor and swooping you in his arms. He opened the door and walked in with you bridal style. "Home sweet home." He said before kissing you and putting you down on the floor. You smiled against his lips and pulled back, looking around you. The house was still empty, the moving trucks would bring everything the next day. You made sure to have the necessary today, as in a mattress and some food in the fridge.
"I can't believe we just did it. We have our own house." You wrapped your arms around his neck and looked up at him lovingly. "Our own home." He said in turn before dipping you and kissing you, making you giggle. He brought you back up but kept his lips on yours, parting your lips to taste you. He gently tapped your thigh and you jumped, wrapping your legs around his waist as he held you against him, his hands firmly on your ass. "Where's the bedroom again?" He asked between two heated kisses. You laughed and indicated the way and before you knew it, he got on his knees and laid you down on the mattress. You could feel the hardness of the floor under it but you didn't care. In just a matter of days, this place would be perfect and comfortable for the both of you. Jake's lips travelled down your jaw until they reached the pulse point behind your ear, making you whimper. You grabbed his shirt and tugged at it, trying to take it off of him. You just wanted to feel his skin against yours. His hands were everywhere but nowhere at the same time, they were roaming along his sides, you could feel his fingers toying with the hem of you shirt, which was extremely frustrating. "Stop teasing, Jake..." You closed your eyes and tugged on his shirt to help him get rid of it. He only chuckled and unbuckled his belt before you opened his pants and slid them down his legs with your feet, taking his boxer briefs with them along the way. He stepped back and kicked them off before returning to you.
You looked at him up and down, mostly down. His hard length at attention against his stomach. "I think you're a bit overdressed..." He cocked his head to the side and smiled down at you. "Then help me, Lieutenant." You murmured in his ear and bit on his earlobe, making him growl. His hands were back on your body and he nearly ripped your shirt out of you before unclasping your bra and taking your breast in his mouth. He swirled your left nipple around his tongue while he massaged your right breast in his hand. You arched your back, pushing your chest into his mouth and he started undoing your jeans. He slid his fingers into your panties and chuckled against your sensitive skin. "So wet already..." Two of his fingers gathered up your arousal and he started circling expectedly your clit. A lewd moan passed your lips and you grabbed his upper arm, squeezing the muscle to anchor yourself. His lips left your breast and he kissed his way down your body, sucking here and there before soothing the bruising skin with his tongue. "Jake..." You whimpered, getting impatient. "What is it, baby?" He glanced up at you, applying just the right pressure on your clit to make you mewl. "Just fuck me already... Please!" Your hand went down to run through his ruffled hair and tug at it. "Right away, Ma'am." He kissed the skin right under your navel and slid your jeans down your legs, discovering the lacy panties you were wearing. "So pretty, baby." His fingers left your clit to slide your panties to the side and he kept his face right in front of your cunt or what seemed to be hours for you. You were about to push your pussy on his face when you felt his tongue tasting you a first time, having you gasp his name. His hands kept your legs wide open while he started devouring you like a starved man.
"This is getting on my way, actually." He said before ripping your panties and throwing them over his shoulders. "Jake!" You shouted at him but he was already face buried in your cunt. "I'll buy you others." He groaned against you and a shiver ran down your spine, the vibrations of his voice bringing you close to the edge. He wrapped his arms around your thighs and you planted your heels on his shoulder blades. You tried to anchor yourself but it was all so overwhelming you couldn't do anything other than moaning and screaming his name. His nose would occasionally rub your clit, bringing you closer and closer to your release. But it's when his thumb started rubbing your bundle of nerves that you found yourself clenching and arching your back in ecstasy. Jake stayed buried in your thighs until the last moment, lapping at your cunt and swallowing everything to last drop you would give him. He rubbed your thighs to help you come down of your high and looked up at you with a loving gaze. You eventually looked down at him and smiled when you saw him resting his cheek on your thigh. "You with me, baby?" He planted a kiss on the inside of your thigh before crawling his way back up. You slid your hands on his cheeks and saw the way his lips glistened with your release. It was awfully hot. You pulled him in for a kiss, tasting yourself on his tongue and moaned, feeling the tip of his cock against your thigh. "Jake...?" You whispered between kisses. "Yeah, baby?" His lips were back on your neck, sucking softly the skin there. "Condom, now." You breathed out and he grinned. "At your service, Ma'am." He pulled away from you and dug into his bag by the side of the mattress, taking out a condom. He ripped it open with his teeth and immediately rolled it over his already sensitive length.
You bit your bottom lip and pulled him down, kissing him and reaching down to line him up with your entrance. He looked at you one last time before slowly pushing in, making the both of you moan. You felt him stretching you open, but in the best way possible. You gently rolled your hips to take him deeper and you mewled when his pubic bone rubbed against your clit. "Please, move..." You whimpered and he slightly pulled back before slamming his hips into yours, hitting that special spot deep inside you. Your hands started roaming along his back, scratching his skin and trying to hold on his firm shoulders. But nothing seemed to do the trick. His hips were slamming into yours, his cock reaching so deep and his lips sucking at your skin so deliciously you couldn't think straight. It was all so good but never enough. Your whimpers drew his attention and he pulled back from your neck, peppering kisses all over your face. "It's okay, you're okay... You're with me... I'm here, it's okay..." He whispered and brought your hands up above your face, interlocking your fingers with his. You squeezed his hand and seemed to relax and abandon yourself into the moment. Jake simply grinned and kissed you deeply before he felt your legs wrapping around his waist and holding him as close as possible.
FOUR
You smiled at your reflection in the mirror, sinking your teeth in your bottom lip to stop yourself from crying and ruining the incredible makeup the nice lady spent an hour perfecting. Your beautiful white dress conforming your curves and the veil attached to your hair were gonna drive Jake crazy when he's gonna see you. You looked up at the clock on the wall and breathed out, knowing it was almost time for you to walk down the aisle. Knocks on the door behind you were heard and you invited in the person on the other side, already knowing who it was. The door opened and your mom stepped into the room, closing the door behind her as she brought up her hands to her mouth in awe. "Oh my God, you look splendid..." She teared up. "Please don't cry. I've been trying not to for thirty minutes now." You turned to her and opened your arms to hug her. Your parents divorced when you were two and your mom moved out of the state, preferring the East coast to Texas. You hadn't seen her as much as you would've liked growing up but seeing her on the most important day of your life meant a lot. She met Jake a few times when you two visited her and she knew he was perfect for you. After nine years together, you were more than ready to say 'I do'.
You pulled back from the hug and looked at her. "I'm so glad you're here." You sighed in relief. You knew your parents couldn't be in the same room, they didn't leave things on the best terms. "I couldn't miss this in the whole world." She stroked your cheek and kissed your forehead. "You're nervous?" She asked you, stepping back a bit. You shook your head and beamed at her. "Not at all. I'm so excited to marry my best friend." You trampled on the spot. Your mom laughed at your attitude, it was like watching a child on Christmas morning. There was no doubt you were excited for today. "I'll let you be. Your dad is waiting for you at the door. And well... Your man is waiting for you at the altar." She gave you one last hug and left the room, leaving you to your thoughts. You turned to the mirror and lowered the veil on your face before joining your dad outside so he could take you to the aisle. "You look amazing, sweetie." He complimented you before kissing your cheek. "Ready to go?" He asked, presenting his arm for you. You nodded with a grin and wrapped your arm around his, holding firmly the bouquet in your other hand. Just before the last turn to enter Jake's sight, you stopped your father and grabbed the dress just above your breast. Your dad looked at your surprise when you readjusted your dress and laughed softly when you winked at him. "Gotta make a great impression for the first look." You took a deep breath and wrapped your arm around your father's and the both of you took your first steps on the aisle.
Your eyes immediately found Jake's at the end of the aisle and you smiled. His lips slightly parted in awe and he grinned. He looked so beautiful in his dress blues, he looked perfect. If you wanted to tease him later, you'd only have to say he teared up when he first saw you in your white dress but you wouldn't. Because you too teared up at this magical moment. You reached the altar and your dad kissed a last time your cheek before giving your hand to Jake. Your soon-to-be-husband helped you walking up the few steps of the altar and you gave your bouquet to your maid of honor before taking both of Jake's hands in yours. "Hey..." He mouthed when the priest started his speech. "Hi..." You mouthed back, all giddy. "You look phenomenal." He then mouthed, looking you up and down. "You look great too." You smiled at him. It was a silent conversation but it was more than enough for the two of you. It was only the two of you, holding hands on the most amazing day of your lives.
FIVE
Few years have passed since you both said 'I do' and you couldn't be happier. Well yes, you could. But that's in progress. You were now 29 and him 31. He was one of the best pilots in the Navy, if not the best one. And your bookshop was quite successful. Jake was deployed few months ago for a secret mission you couldn't know anything about and when he came back, he was another man. For a few days, you couldn't recognize your own husband but you talked it out and now he was back to normal. Before he left, the only thing he said was that it was probably the most dangerous mission he would ever have to do and to give him an extra reason to come back to you, you told him you wanted to stop taking the pill. That night, you barely slept but then he realized how much more it meant. You wanted to start a family with him and he needed to be there for you through it all. So he made it his personal mission to come back to you. And that's what he did, he came back to you after a month of deployment and you told him you were pregnant. He couldn't have been happier than when you showed him the blood analyze.
You were now fourteen weeks pregnant and both you and Jake were waiting impatiently this very date, knowing you could discover the gender of the baby around that time. You were laying on the chair, your shirt pulled up to show your small baby bump Jake couldn't keep his hands off. You discovered a whole new side of the man you loved when you got pregnant. He was so protective of you, so gentle. Even when you had sex, it never had been this gentle, this tender. You absolutely loved it. The doctor moved the ultrasound thing around your bump, first checking if everything was alright before turning over to you. "You wanna know the sex?" She smiled at you. You looked up at Jake whose eyes never left the screen, trying to see by himself. You chuckled and nodded your head, seeing that your husband was nowhere able to answer her. She turned back to the screen and pointed to a little something. "It's a girl. Congratulations." Jake looked down at your with teary eyes and took your hand in his. "We're having a baby girl?" He asked you, scared that his ears betrayed him. You nodded and wiped his teary eyes. "We're having a baby girl, Jake." You confirmed before he brought your hand to his lips and kissed the back of it.
"I'll leave you two alone for a bit, I'll be back in ten." The doctor pressed a few buttons and three copies of the ultrasound came out of the printer in the corner. She gave them to you and left the room. "We're having a girl!" Jake exclaimed as soon as the door was closed, making you laugh. "I think you owe Coyote twenty dollars, baby." You chuckled. Your husband wanted a baby girl but didn't believe at all that he would get one, so his best friend made the bet that he would. "I've never been happier to lose money." He rested his forehead against yours and took back your hands in his, holding them close to his face so he could kiss them whenever he wanted.
SIX
You woke up sooner in the night with back pain and when you tried to go to the bathroom, you groaned in pain as you felt a contraction in your lower stomach. It wasn't unusual at almost nine months of pregnancy but this time it was more painful. But minutes later, you had to wake up Jake hurriedly, telling him your water broke. His eyes shot open and it was like he'd never been asleep. He grabbed the bag you two started to pack and added some last minute stuff before driving you to the hospital, holding your hand to reassure you and comfort you. When you were waiting in the waiting area, he texted Coyote, his parents and yours. Your eyes were closed and your head was resting on Jake's shoulder, the nurse at the reception asked you some questions and told you it was too early for you to go in the delivery room. So you waited, in pain. Jake's hand rested on your knee and his other arm was around your shoulders. Occasionally you would let out growls and moans of pain, people looking at you as if you were some sort of animal. Jake would glare at them and then kiss your hair, murmuring praises in your ear.
After almost two hours of waiting, you heard your name called and a nurse came to check on you, asking how long the contractions were apart. She smiled and told you you could join a room in the resting time. Jake stood up and helped you getting on your feet before he heard his name called. He turned his head and saw Coyote running into the waiting area. "Hey, sorry I didn't see your text." He apologized. "It's the middle of the night. I'm glad you didn't see my text." Jake tapped his shoulder and his best friend helped you walking while Jake went to pay for the room you would stay in before going to the delivery room. Coyote and you followed the nurse and he helped you laying down on the bed, making sure you were comfortable. Jake came back quickly and was fast to be by your side, his hand immediately taking yours. "I called Mav and Cyclone to tell them you wouldn't show up today, or tomorrow." Coyote explained, stepping aside to give you some room. Another moan of pain slipped from your lips and Jake's attention was back on you. "Thanks, man." He quickly glanced at his friend before squeezing your hand. "You're doing amazing, baby. You're amazing, keep doing this and we'll have our baby girl sooner than planned." He kissed your knuckles and a nurse stepped into the room. "Keep praising her like this and all of this will only be a bad dream." She smiled at Jake.
You stayed three more hours in this room, Jake never leaving your side and never letting go of your hand one second. Coyote was the one getting you water or food. You got used to the contractions, to the pain so now if anyone would walk by the door, they'd think you're asleep and your husband is just watching over you. But you weren't and your husband was begging any deity he could take your pain. The nurse had connected a machine to your vitals to make sure everything went according to plan. Jake kept murmuring praises and kissing your hand until he heard the worst sound he could ever hear at that moment. The machine your were connected to started beeping aggressively and a nurse came running into the room, checking something before running back out, calling for a doctor. Coyote came back with two coffees and a panicked expression on his face. "I just saw your nurse running in the hallway, what's happening?" He asked as Jake kept looking at you up and down, looking or anything looking wrong to him. But you seemed fine. Oh no, the baby. The nurse came back into the room with your doctor and she checked the exact same thing the nurse did and she grabbed the breathing aid before putting it on your face. "What's wrong? What's happening?" Jake started to panic, still holding your hand. "Her blood pressure is going down." The nurse and the doctor stayed active around you and set up an I.V. Jake is so glad he's able to stay by your side but he's also very scared anything bad happen to his girls.
An hour later, your blood pressure seemed to go back to normal and you're moved to the delivery room, only Jake is allowed to follow. Coyote would be waiting for you in the waiting area and keep everyone updated with Jake's phone. Your legs were now spread open, the doctor checking if your body was ready for the delivery but every time she would pull back, she'd give you a tight smile and tell you to wait a bit more. The contractions were more painful and Jake was standing right behind you, his hands on your shoulders but still holding one of your hands, never letting go. But when the doctor lowered herself between your legs for the umpteenth time, she frowned, called for the nurse with a whisper and the lady nodded her head in agreement. "What? What's wrong?" Jake asked, seeing something wasn't right. "Your daughter isn't in a head-down position, I won't be able to deliver her properly without risking harming her of your wife." The doctor explained. "So what are we doing?" You asked with a weak voice before groaning at the contractions. "I recommend a c-section." And it was like a bomb going off in the room. Just the idea of a c-section made you sick. Jake leaned down to kiss your forehead and murmured in your ear. "You got this, okay? You can do it, baby. Look on the bright side, it'll be faster and less painful. We'll have our baby girl faster." He gently stroked your sweat-wet hair. "Dad's right, you won't feel anything and your daughter will be with you sooner than with a traditional delivery. The only downside is that it'll take you a bit more to recover." The doctor promised and you nodded your head. "Okay, let's do this. Let's have our baby girl." You looked up at Jake and he kissed the tip of your nose, making you smile.
You were moved to the surgical block, Jake allowed to come with you since you'd be conscious. The doctor was accompanied by two nurses who would assist her during the surgery. They gave you anesthetics and you soon felt nothing but calm in your body. A cloth was stretched between your face and your lower stomach so neither you or Jake could see the bloody part. Jake still held your hand, you couldn't remember how long it's been since he let go of your hand but the simple touch of his skin was reassuring you. The surgery was going well, and the doctors kept you updated on everything they were doing. Jake murmured praises in your ear and you only looked at him lovingly, feeling nothing but pure love for the man above you. You were feeling a little bit weak but you put that on the fact that your lower half was cut open. "I love you, Jake." You smiled at him and he looked down at you. "I love you too, baby. You're doing great." He kissed your forehead and stroked your hair out of your face. "Dad? You might want to come and see this." The doctor called and Jake walked around you, never letting go of your hand. The woman was holding the tiny baby in her arms, the umbilical cord still connecting to two of you. "We have a baby girl..." He breathed out, squeezing your hand and glancing at you. "You gave me a baby girl, she's beautiful..." You smiled at him and squeezed his hand in turn before he looked back at your daughter and the doctor gave him scissors to cut the cord himself. He did it with one hand, still holding yours with the other and one nurse took your daughter to go and get her all cleaned up.
"Alright, Mama. How are you holding up?" The doctor called above the cloth as Jake moved to go back behind you. "I'm feeling tired." You chuckled weakly and the doctor smiled. "It's normal. With the contractions and the anesthetics, it's completely normal to feel tired and weak." Everything was going great. You and Jake had a daughter, she was fine and you would be fine in a moment too. But the frown on the doctor's face said otherwise. Jake looked curiously the doctor's movements becoming more rushed and he knew something was wrong. The machine next to them started beeping and he immediately looked down at you. "Hey, baby... Keep your eyes open, okay? We're almost done." He tried to keep you awake but could see how weak you were. "I'm tired, Jake..." You sighed. "I know, baby. I know... But you're doing so good... Doc! What's happening?" He looked up at the doctor who kept asking for gauzes to the nurse. She didn't answer him, focused on what she was doing and Jake started to panic. He looked down at you and stroked your cheek, trying to stimulate you to keep you awake. "Baby? Hey, Y/N... Stay with me, okay? You better stay with me!" His voice started quivering and his eyes teared up. He looked back up at the doctor and was about to ask her what was happening when he felt it. He looked down at you and more precisely at your hand slipping from his. He held it tighter but you were not squeezing anymore. And then the flatline.
BONUS
Jake didn't know how long the curtains had been closed or when was the last time he ate a real meal. Olivia would wake him up from his 2 hour night of sleep, crying and screaming and he would stay in bed for another hour, just listening to his daughters cries, hoping you would swoop in and feed her, change her diaper or just comfort her. But you never did, so he'd get up and go to the nursery, lean over the crib and take his crying daughter in his arms, purposely avoiding looking into her teary eyes because they looked just like yours. He'd walk to the kitchen and prepare her bottle, keeping her against his shoulder and swaying calmly to try and appease her cries. "Come on, Liv'. Be good for Daddy and shut your pretty little mouth. Please..." After the bottle was warm, he checked on his wrist if it wasn't too hot, just like Penny taught him and he went to sit on the couch, turning the crying baby in his arms and he led the pacifier right between her rosy lips. She stopped crying for a moment and Jake threw his head back against the couch, enjoying the silence. His eyes teared up and before he could wipe his cheek with his shoulder, Olivia started crying again.
He sighed and put aside the bottle before holding the baby closer to him and gently tapping her back. Just like Penny taught him. But he wished you were the one teaching him all of this. He wished you would both learn how to take care of a baby, your baby together, as a couple. But he was learning alone, and he was learning terribly. What kind of father would let his daughter cry for hours just because he didn't want to have a reminder his partner in life wasn't there with him? He tapped her back until she burped, making Jake slightly smile. "That's my good girl..." He walked up to the bathroom and glance at the bag with all the products you used. He couldn't throw away everything you owned, he just couldn't. He laid the baby down on the changing table and avoided looking into her eyes before he started opening her onesie, one that you picked at the store because there's a plane on it and you wanted your daughter to grow up with things related to her dad. Jake changed his daughter's diaper and dressed her up in a pretty little green dress. Just as he was about to grab her under her arms, he stopped in his tracks, completely frozen when he felt it. Her little hand, those tiny fingers wrapped around his big middle finger. The warmth of her hand was the same as yours, even though her skin was way softer and fragile than yours. His breath got caught in his throat and turned into a sob. His eyes teared up and he let out a whimper before falling to his knees. His finger still held so tight by his daughter. He just couldn't keep the tears to himself, so he let it all out, sobbing and weeping on the bathroom floor.

You stare at the day, wondering why it looks so familiar. You finish typing in, “pay cable bill” and then it hits you. “It’s almost his birthday,” you sigh, rubbing your forehead.
“Is this not a good thing?” Jake asks, setting your plate in front of you as he sits down.
“No, it is- -its- its good. I just- I don’t know how I’m going to plan this because it seems like the bar is just getting busier and busier than my other job-”
He says nothing as he reaches down, hand wrapped around the leg of your chair as he pulls you closer to him. “I thought I told you to quit that job.”
“And I told you that I have to make ends meet. We have to be able to eat somehow.”
He removes his hand from the leg of the chair and cups your cheek, getting you to focus on him. “You don’t have to do that. There are two people here now. It’s not all on you to take care of everything, okay? It's okay to lean on me.”
You sniffle, lowering your head.
“Hey, hey,” he lowers his voice, bringing you closer to him, resting your head on his shoulder letting you cry until you can’t anymore and all you can do is sniffle. “Come on now. No more tears.” He uses his thumb to wipe your cheeks and under eyes. “We are in this together,” he pecks your head.
Jake grabs your hand and pulls your hand up to his lips, placing a kiss that lasts a few seconds on your wedding ring. “This ring here united us in more ways than one so, if you have credit card debt, it’s now our debt.”
That earns a chuckle from you.
“There’s that smile I love.”
“Shut up,” you mumble into his shoulder.
He chuckles, “I don’t think I want to, not when I got a pretty girl on my shoulder.”
“Why do you have to be so flirty?”
He shrugs, “don’t know but I can’t say I hate it.”
“And, why’s that?” You move your head, looking up at his jaw line and side profile.
“It got me you.”
“I don’t think it was the flirting.”
“Oh, no. It was definitely the flirting.”
“Okay,” you pat his chest with your left hand.
He tilts his head down, staring at the ring on your finger and smiles.
You push yourself off him, taking a bite of your food.
He takes this as an opportunity to talk. “Okay, this is what I got from this conversation. You’re quitting your crappy second job and letting me officially help with bills while you start coming up with some ideas on what to do for our little man’s birthday party.”
You hate to admit it but the way he said, “our little man” makes you happy and relaxed, it never seems to stop surprising you when he talks about the kids like they’re his own.
He said he wished they were his on the first date and still manages to surprise you after saying that. He gets out of the chair and exits the kitchen.
You huff, shaking your head while eating your pasta. How dare he be such a little shit… even if he did reheat your dinner for you.
You turn your brain off for a second, focusing on the tasty food and not the fact that Jake is talking about the kids is hot. Nope, definitely not focusing on that. You stop chewing, a dirty thought comes to mind. ‘Could he have a breeding kink?’
“Hey, babe?”
Your eyes slowly trail over towards him.
“Nothing, just wanted to see if you wanted to watch a movie with us but I can see that the pasta is better than us. So, we’ll leave you two alone.”
You roll your eyes. Did it just get hotter?
“I heard that.”
You roll your eyes again, knowing that he cannot hear you do such a normal thing.
-
“Jake, I wanna show you something,” Maryanne says, tugging on Jake’s arm.
“Now? It’s time for bed kiddo.” He glances over at you.
“It’s about the book I want.”
You shake your head, she doesn’t learn. “Honey, ask him, don’t pull on his arm. You know that.”
“But-”
She sticks her bottom lip out, pouting. “Now, I see it,” he comments. “This is how he got it.”
“Who got what?” Your daughter asks.
“Your brother got this,” Jake points to her pouty lip, “from you.”
She shakes her head, “no, he didn’t.”
“I’m pretty sure he did.”
“Nu-uh.”
“Yuh-huh.”
“Hey.”
“No.”
“Jake-”
“Yes.”
“No.”
You stick your curled index finger and thumb in your mouth, whistling to get their attention. “Hey, hey. No. No more of this. Okay?”
He lifts Maryanne over his shoulder, she lets out giggly screams. “Yes, ma’am.” He salutes you before marching to her room.
You shake your head, glancing back at a sleepy Edwin rubbing his one eye. “Okay, time for bed little man.”
-
You pull the sheets over his belly, setting them on his chest. You brush the few stands of fallen hair out of his eyes. “Have thought about what you want to do this year?”
He nods.
“And what’s that?”
“Cowboys.”
“Cowboys? Really?”
He nods, rubbing his eyes.
“Okay,” you lean forward, kissing the top of his head. “Go to sleep.”
You exit his room, finding your husband leaning against the wall.
“You have fun?”
“Oh, tons. Did you not hear the ragger we started in there? I thought the walls were shaking all over the house.”
He hums, wrapping his arms around you. “You find out the theme?”
“I did.”
“You want to share with the rest of the class.”
“Maybe.”
“Are you seriously gonna leave me in the dark about what he wants to do?”
You turn around, leaning against the bathroom doorway. “Yes.”
He closes the door, groaning loudly for you to hear as he lays on the bed. “Why? Is it space? Does he want aliens at the party because I think Chicken is alien like as it is. I will veto more than one alien.”
The shower starts running.
Jake pushes himself off the bed, practically tripping over everything as he hurries to the bathroom.
You shake your head, taking a step back letting the water run over your hair and backside. “Did you trip over everything?"
He scoffs, “no.”
“And who’s pants are on fire?”
The shower door slides open, “not mine since they’re on the floor but, I am afraid another part of me is on fire for you, sweetheart.” His arms slide around your waist, pulling you closer.
You lift your head, wiping the water off your forehead before opening your eyes. “When aren’t you trying to have your way with me?”
“I think it’s the other way around because if my memory serves me right, and it does, it was you who was begging me.”
“You definitely did the begging.”
“I don’t think so,” he denies.
“I know for a fact it was you.”
“How can I change your mind?” He leans in, eye lids drooping.
You tilt your head to the side, pretending to think about it as he places gentle kisses along the side of your neck. “We should finish our shower soon, the water’s gonna get cold,” you mumble.
“Then I’ll just,” his murmurs against your skin, “warm you up.”
You bite your lip to suppress your smile, “you’d like that wouldn’t you.”
He smirks, biting your neck.
You shriek and quickly cover your mouth, slapping his arm.
“Did something happen, sweetheart?”
You narrow your eyes at him, pursing your lips as you reach for your shower gel and sponge net so you can get out and get ready for bed, letting Jake know you’re not going to give into his carnal desires (for the time being).
You finish, your hand is on the shower door when Jake stops you.
“Hey, hey. Where do you think you’re going?” He stares at you with his soapy hair tangled in a mess; the shampoo trailing down his temples after he wiped his forehead.
“I’m gonna get out so you have room to dry off when you’re finished. What are you doing?” You slowly ask.
“I just have to wash my hair and I’m done.”
“Which is why I’m trying to get out now.”
Maybe it’s the way his shoulder’s tense up or that you’re reminded of your brief three-day separation period and how terrible it was (on the four of you).
You stop, moving towards him. “Turn around.”
“Why? You gonna check me out?” He certainly knows how to lighten the mood.
“Always but not this time, I’m gonna wash your hair.”
He nearly melted on the spot.
There has only been one other time when you spoiled him and washed his hair (which was because the kids decided to have a food fight and he couldn’t get all of it out on his own) and he loved it, a little too much he can fully admit to that.
He doesn’t say anything and nods.
“How are you gonna do this?” You ask, not wanting him to strain his neck as you reach for the shower head. Turning back around with the shower head in your hand, you find him on his knees. “What are you doing?”
His eyes trail up your body until he locks eyes with you, “Making it easy on you.”
You lift the shower head, spraying him.
He chuckles, grabbing your wrist, stopping you, “that’s not very nice, gorgeous.” There’s the “you’re in trouble” nickname.
“You’re the one getting handsy.”
He scoffs, “you love it.”
“Shut up and let me wash your hair.”
He wraps his arms around your waist, resting his head on your stomach. The tired and quiet, “yes ma’am,” escapes him.
You do your best to be thorough and quick so you two can crawl into bed. You set the shower head back in its place, tapping his shoulder. “Come on.”
“No.”
“It’s time for us to get out. We gotta dry off and I gotta finish my hair before we lay down.”
He huffs, “fine.” His knee cracks as he pushes himself up causing you to smile.
“Sounds like you’re becoming an old man.”
“I’m not old enough to the point where I can’t carry you.” You place a hand on his chest, shoving him back, “Don’t even try it, Mister. I will not have us fall and break something.”
He doesn’t say anything and nods.
You feel bad. The joking attitude he has is no longer there. “I know you didn’t mean it like that, please don’t be sad.”
“I’m not.”
“Jake,” you cup his cheeks forcing him to look at you. “We are together, and nothing is going to change that. You’re stuck with me like I’m stuck with you.”
He rolls his eyes.
You can feel the muscles in his cheeks twitch as he fights the urge to crack a smile. “You know how you told me to lean on you, lean on me. I will be by your side till the very end, okay? I love you.”
He nods, pulling you in for a hug. He sniffs, neither of you comment on it.
“Come on,” you whisper in his ear. “Let’s get out of here. I can feel the goosebumps on your back.”
His breath fans against your skin as a breathless chuckle escapes him. “I thought you liked to have any reason to warm me up.”
“Just get out, you dork. It’s cold.”
“So, mean.” He slides the shower door open, stepping out wrapping a towel around his waist. He turns around, holding his hand out for you, helping you out of the shower.
You reach the towel when he swats your hand.
“Ah, bup bup.”
“I can get my own towel, thank you.”
“Yeah, but this way I can help and if my hand slips, well then,” the corner of his lips tug upwards as he pulls you closer with the towel before wrapping it around you, “that’s just a win for me.”
You roll your eyes smacking his chest. “What? I’m not supposed to be completely and utterly blown away every time I see my gorgeous wife. Because I’d be crazy not to.”
“You’re too sweet for your own good.”
“It’s called love, sweetheart.”
You shake your head, smile never faltering as you step beside him.
“Can you blow dry my hair?”
“You always complain when I do it.”
“You’ve never done it before,” he points out.
“… that’s because I know you’ll complain after.” You remove your towel and grab your cute, designed panties before sighing. “Get dressed then we can make you look pretty.”
“I’m gonna take that as a compliment so thank you, sweetheart.” He walks up behind you, placing his hands on your hips as he pecks your cheek.
You can’t help but smile, he’s always too sweet (even when he doesn’t want to admit it). You finish getting dressed and do your own hair before you plug in the blow dryer, making sure that the cord won’t knock anything off the counter. “Are you done yet?”
“I’ve been waiting on you.”
“Don’t give me that attitude,” you tell him while reaching for the necessary item.
“I have no attitude to give.”
You run your fingers through his hair getting rid of any knots that may be there. “Is your hair okay at this length?”
“Yeah, why? Do you not like it?”
You bend down, wrapping your free hand around his jaw, tilting his head back. “I didn’t say that, and I love all and anything that has to do with you, you know that.”
“It doesn't hurt to hear it again.”
You let go of him and detangle the cord, needing more room to walk around behind him. “Oh, I’m sorry I didn’t want to inflate your ego more than I already do.”
“Now that I know you think so highly of me, it definitely makes me feel more confident in myself.”
You playfully roll your eyes, “oh, no. Whatever will the others do about it tomorrow?”
“Complain, maybe call you.”
“It wouldn’t surprise me if they did.”
-
Jake climbs into bed first, the sheets folded across his waist. He watches as you go through your mental checklist. “We did everything we were supposed to, so get over here so we can cuddle and stop stressing over it.”
You purse your lips, not wanting to admit that he’s a little bit right. “Fine.” You crawl onto your side, turning to turn the lamp off only to find yourself smashed against his warm chest. You tilt your head up, staring at his side profile before he moves looking back at you as he brushes his thumb against your cheek. “What do you think the others would do if the found out the Hangman was a big time cuddler?”
He lets out a soft, sarcastic chuckle, “they wouldn’t.” He leans in, putting most, if not all his weight onto his elbow.
“You wanna know why?”
You don’t tear your gaze away from him as his hand trails down your side, his fingertips grazing every inch of you. “Why?” You whisper, already knowing where this is going.
“Because,” he kisses your chin, jaw line, and side of your neck, “I’m gonna make sure you forget what you find to be so funny.” He sucks on the skin of your chest, near the edge of your tank top. “And they wouldn’t believe you.”
You tilt your head back, giving him more room to do as he pleases (as long as they aren’t too visible for everyone to see… even if that is his second favorite reason to give you hickey’s). “Seems like you’ll be working… all night.”
“We have time.”
“You’re such a horn dog.”
“Only for you.” His lips trail along your collarbone, moving closer towards your head, nipping at your chin.
“You have to sleep, you volunteered to take Maryanne to the store and we both know she’s gonna wake up at the crack of dawn the day after Edwin’s party even though we have to wake up early for that.”
He sighs knowing you’re right. “Fine, let’s go to sleep.” He sounds so sad. He sounds so sad as he rests his head on your chest.
“Don’t be sad, I don’t want you to be too tired when you and Ann are out-”
His head snaps up. “How can I be tired when I have such a gorgeous wife to come home to.”
You close your eyes, nails lightly scratching along the base of his neck, “don’t suck up to me.”
“Okay.”
A mischievous smile dances across his lips as he lifts the sheets, slithering down your body being careful not to touch you (he doesn’t want you to ruin his plans).
The shower and your brief crying session made your body a little more tired than it normally would be so your mind is elsewhere, not entirely focused on Jake moving around.
You feel yourself close to falling asleep, the darkness creeping up on you; your mind may be listening, but your body is exhausted, and you continue to fight the urge to stay awake.
He pecks along the insides of your bare calves, he stops for a minute; he can’t work too fast or else it’ll get hot, meaning he’ll have to throw the sheets off you which could result in waking you up, ruining his surprise. He trails up your leg, taking his time caressing and taking care of your thighs. If you happen to find a hickey or two tomorrow morning, well that’s just a bonus (for him) he thinks as he gently nips at your hip.
You let out a tired groan, your leg jerks.
Jake slides his hand across your thigh until he cups the back of it, placing it on his shoulder. He hesitates for a moment after you mumble his name, “Jake.”
The two of you have talked about trying a few new things in the bedroom (you can blame Natasha and Javy for putting these ideas in your husband’s head). Basically, he heard the three of you talking about what they want to try or something similar they’ve done, and this got Jake thinking that maybe you find sex with him to be boring because it consists of the same thing.
You two take care of one another (at some point during the night and not always back-to-back) followed by the full romp in the hay (a phrase which he regrets telling you about to this day). You don’t do all these crazy things people do nowadays and, shockingly, Jake got a little insecure and wants to spice things up every now and then which it seems your darling hubby wants to try out now.
Your mind and your body are speaking two different languages at this point; your mind is almost whispering to your body, telling you he’s there to ravage you and make you lose your breath; your body becomes accustomed to where he rests. But then you’re close to falling asleep, the minimal amount of moonlight seeping into your shared room becomes darker and darker with every passing second.
The devil on his shoulder wins, he can’t not touch you when he’s right there, staring at your seemingly dripping core as he inches closer.
His cheeks flush from the heat but he doesn’t care if he passes out from heat exhaustion, he’ll be happy to know it was for a good cause. His thumbs settle on either side of your slit, spreading you further. He can’t be slow and gentle right now; he needs you and he needs you now.
Your eyes flash open, you squirm, pushing yourself onto your elbows; not used to this kind of wakeup call but eventually calm down when you hear him humming. You fall back, head plopping onto the pillows; a desperate cry escapes you before you can stop it.
His hand slithers up your torso, landing in the middle of your chest under the loose tank top you wear to bed on hot nights since the AC is still broken (he’s working on it). His hand slides over to your right breast and kneads it.
You start thinking of the way cats do the same thing, but your favorite is when cats do it on a soft blanket. Until your hormones take over and your hips thrust into him, your hands clenching and unclenching the sheets but it’s not enough.
You place your hand on top of the one kneading your soft skin and throw the sheets off his head, needing to see him; the wanting to interlock his hair between your fingers overpowering any sensible thought you may have had. You open your eyes and look down at the man who continues to make you unravel in the best way possible.
You’re so close to closing your eyes whether it be from tiredness or to avoid losing yourself faster the longer you look at him, you don’t know anymore. You whine at the loss of his hand on your breast only to replace it with a stutter of his name, “Ja- Jake!”
His other hand clenches around the thigh he has covering his right ear. It feels as though he’s pulling you closer if that’s possible. The skin-to-skin contact doing more than you could ever imagine.
You cover your mouth, the longer he’s on you, the faster you’ll come meaning the louder you’ll be because whenever he becomes impatient it’s amazing, but the kids are home, asleep in their beds and neither of you want to explain what’s going on in full depth yet (they’re still your babies).
The thought quickly exits your mind, eyes closing at the feeling of him switching things up on you, his thumb swipes your buzzing bundle side to side as his tongue enters your weeping hole. If your eyes weren’t already closed, they would have rolled into the back or your head.
A string of moans and whispers of his name is all he can hear (through on ear seeing as the other one is still covered). “Let go for me, sweetheart. Just let go.”
You nod, hand tightening on the long strands of his hair.
He groans into you, loving the tingling sensation you create.
“J- Jake. I’m gonna-” You can’t finish warning him what’s about to happen, he knows and keeps pushing you.
His name is the only thing spilling from your lips. He removes his mouth from your warm slit and pecks along your torso, nipping at your warn skin like he did before, he reaches your chin and swallow your moans when he swipes your clit from side to side at a faster pace.
Your thighs are shaking, pathetic moans come from the bottom of your throat.
“I need you to come for me, sweetheart.” His hot breath hits your ear. “Can you do that for me?” He asks. You don’t respond, he rips your hand away from your mouth.
Your eyes snap open to find the windows to his soul swirling with lust and yet the softness of his expression makes you clench around his fingers. “Can you do that for me?”
“I need you,” the first sentence you mutter in bed this evening.
“What’s that?”
You frown at him stupidly hot and cocky smirk. “Need you.”
“Yeah? Need what?”
You squeeze his fist with your interlocked fingers.
“I’m gonna need you to be specific for me, sweetheart.”
“Need you.”
“You keep sayin’ that but, I don’t know what you want.”
“If you- if you don’t fuck me wi-ith your fucking cock. I’m- I’m gonna search through the drawers.”
He grunts, slowing his pace.
“What are you doing?”
“Giving my bratty baby what she wants.” He untangles himself from your grasp and starts to lean over for the nightstand.
You grasp his forearm. Is that a vein? “Come inside me.”
He slowly turns his head. “Yeah?”
You wrap your shaky legs around his waist the best you could. “Do it.”
He smiles, leaning down to peck your lips, “just know, you asked for it.”
You pout before biting your lip when you feel him rubbing his hard cock against your wetness.
“You still gonna be a brat after I give you what you want?”
“’M not a brat,” you mumble, wrapping your arms around his shoulders. “If anyone’s a brat,” you suck in a deep breath as he eases himself into you.
“Please, keep going. I gotta know the end of that sentence.” His hips tap your as he moves at a slow pace wanting to make sure it’s enjoyable for the two of you. He notices the change in your expression and fastens the pace. There she is. “Is my bratty baby happy now?”
One hand slides up into his hair, you tug on the strands, slightly pulling his head back. “You’re the brattiest one out of the two of us.”
The corner of his lips tugs upwards, “or is that what I want you to think.”
You want to say more, figure out what the hell he’s talking about until one of his hands drops town to your sensitive bundle. You close your eyes.
He lowers his head, nipping and marking wherever he can reach.
You don’t know how he does it but you’re close and he's right there with you.
“Open your eyes.” His breath hits your face, your eyes snap open. His gorgeous eye color replaced with his dilated pupils.
You cup his cheek and pull him closer, feeling his chest flushed against yours. Nothing about this kiss is sweet, it’s teeth clashing, hot breaths mingling until you throw your head back calling out his name.
One hand leaves your hip, placed over your mouth. “I know it feels good, sweetheart but you gotta keep quiet.”
You open your eyes, brows furrowed, lips pouting.
“Don’t give me that look, you know we’re not alone.”
You nod, knowing he’s right but he doesn’t have to say it. Oh. Oh. You purse your lips, virtually kissing his hand.
He moves his opposite hand from your hip to your clit, pushing you to finish.
Neither of you say anything as you clench around him.
He quietly moans against your shoulder, his sweaty forehead resting there.
You both call out the others name, quiet enough to not wake the kids. Your back arches, eyes closed, vision going white the tighter you squeeze your eyelids shut.
The warmth of your body pressing against Jake’s ends him. Your chests heave with every breath you two take.
He chuckles, pecking the skin above your heart. He pushes himself up in a half push up position. “Is my bratty baby satisfied?”
You scoff, smacking his arm. “Are you?”
“I’m more than good and you,” he pecks the side of your neck, “know that.”
“It’s nice to hear once in a while.”
He lifts his head. “Using my own words against me now?”
“Always.”
His arms slither against your sides until he cups your head, completely caging you with him.
You lightly scratch his head.
He only gives you that full teeth, cheeky smile of his as he removes your hand from his hair, placing a long kiss on your wedding ring. He places a kiss on your chin before he detaches himself from you.
You bite your lip when he pulls out and of course, he looks up at you.
“Someone missing me?”
You roll your eyes, “help me out of bed, idiot.”
He walks around to your side of the bed, helping you balance yourself. “Just remember, you married this idiot.”
“Ah, yes. My mistake.”
“You’re so mean.”
“You married this,” you gesture to yourself.
He slides up behind you, hands resting your hips. “I had to take you off of the market before anyone else fell for your attitude.”
“I have no attitude.”
He chuckles against your neck, “of course, not gorgeous.”
You roll your eyes and push himself away from you, pointing at him with your stern “mother pointing finger” (as Maryanne, Edwin, Mickey, Bradley... basically anyone who’s been on the receiving end of it, says that) at him. “You stay outside.”
He scoffs, “you make me sound like a dog.”
“You’re a horn dog.”
“So mean,” he mutters and starts to clean himself up a bit.
-
You two finish and Jake wraps his arm around your waist as he helps you back into bed. You yawn, covering your mouth. “We should change the sheets,” you mutter, knowing how much of a hassle it’ll be if you don’t do it now.
He shushes you. “I’ll take care of it before the party, okay?”
You nod, eyes closed unaware of the world around you.
He pulls you closer, resting your head against his chest.
-
You have everyone on the assigned task you gave them right as they walked through the door while you do the finishing touches on your baby boy’s cake.
“I’ll be right back,” he pecks your cheek.
You make sure the piece stays up before looking over at your husband. “Where are you going? We have an hour until the kids start coming. I cannot deal with the others by myself, Jake. I am one person.”
He only smiles, “outfit change.”
You purse your lips. “I’ll be back, it won’t take me long.”
“Why couldn’t you have gotten dressed in your outfit earlier?”
“I didn’t want to rip anything. I love you!”
You clench your jaw and turn back towards the cake. “Okay, it’s done. Now we can put it back in the fridge before it melts.” You turn away from the fridge to find Mickey and Bob messing around. You stomp towards the window above the kitchen sink and slam it open. “What the hell are you two doing?”
Their eyes widen and they try to run only to wind up bumping into one another until Bob forces Mickey to turn around and the two disappear around the corner.
“You two better have finished what I told you to do!”
-
“You need a drink,” Natasha says, leaning against the wall.
“I could use five right now.”
She places her hands on your tense, knotted shoulders and forces you to sit down on the bar stool. “Breath, honey. You’ve got this. Everything is going according to plan.” She walks over towards the window and slides it open, “cock fighter!”
Bradley walks towards the window, “yeah?”
“We need your alter ego; Sir drinks a lot.”
“Who?”
“Mama of the hour.”
“You got all I need?”
“Bags are on the table.”
The mustached man of the hour enters, a smile stretching across his lips his arms spread, “Let’s make some drinks.”
You take slow sips with Natasha sitting beside you and Bradley making drinks for the others.
“What’s got you spinning?”
You shrug.
“Come on,” she starts, “spill it girl.”
You and Bradley turn towards her.
“I can’t pull that off, can I?”
“No.”
You both shake your heads.
“Sorry, hon.”
“Moving on, tell papa bear and Hawaii what’s going on.”
You fight the urge to smile until you hear the others laughing.
“How many drinks have you had Nat?”
“This is my first.”
“What did you buy, Brad?”
“What me? Nothing.”
You stare at him with a raised brow.
“Nothing!”
“She only gets in her weird nickname moods when she’s had her,” you lean forward to whisper, “girly drinks.”
“What do you think I made her?”
“We’re getting nowhere. Is the party almost ready?”
“We’ve been done for the last,” he turns towards the window. “We still have fifteen minutes and I need… grass for a… garnish. We’ll see you later!”
“Why do they think I’m an idiot?”
“Because they don’t use their brain.”
“That’s a plausible theory.” Your back faces the entry way to the kitchen, you didn’t notice Jake standing there in his replicated outfit he wore as a teenager.
Natasha looks over at the kitchen entrance and smirks; she knows for a fact that you’re going to be extremely horny.
When you two first saw a picture of your husband when he was younger, she was cracking jokes while you got extremely quiet. She happened to glance over in that moment and knew (just like she does now) that you were horny and were bound to jump him at one point or another.
She lifts her drink and gets off the bar stool; walking by him she says, “cowboy.”
“Princess Phoenix.”
She shakes her head and disappears around the corner, doing God know what (or so you think).
You turn at the sound of his voice. You almost let your jaw drop, almost and yet you don’t. It’s better to pretend like your core is getting warmer and warmer the more you look at him. You know your husband is hot, like super fucking hot and half the time you don’t know what to do with yourself but you never expected to find him to be this fucking hot, you’re damn near hot under the collar of your cute shirt that says “it’s my baby’s birthday” on the front and say “happy birthday” on the back with a picture of Edwin at age 2, covered by a flannel.
You love it, oh crap! You gotta make a note to thank Javy and Natasha (the most) but also everyone else for all that they surprisingly managed to do without needing to call some type of authority or an ambulance (you’ve heard their stories). At least, you hope that’s the case because Bradley ran out of the kitchen awfully fast. But none of that is important because all you want to do is jump your husband’s bones (again).
You check the clock on the microwave, you have time to run to the bathroom in your bedroom and splash some freezing water on your face. You don’t notice the smirk resting at the corner of your husband’s lips.
He knows exactly what he’s done, he knows how his pictures from his youth make you feel, and he loves it. He searches for a drink, see if you make a move and if not, he’s dragging you to your shared bedroom.
Natasha re-enters the kitchen, searching for a snack, wanting something to soak up the few drinks she’s had.
You point to the cooler near the kitchen entrance, “I know you’ve already had a drink, but this is for you to share with the others. We have drinks in there for the kids, and we have another cooler in the garage for the adults. No hard drinks, only things you and the others consider “light.” Snacks are in the bags on the dining table and I’m gonna run upstairs and get myself ready. I don’t think leggings are a good idea for the party. Can you maintain everything for a few seconds?”
She smirks, glancing over at Jake, “you mean “can you watch over everyone and everything while I go to my room and take care of myself.” Sure, I can but do I want to?”
“Phoenix,” you say with the stern mom tone you use when one of the kids are hiding candy and they know they aren’t allowed to have any at that designated time.
She raises her hands, “okay, okay.” She snickers as you run.
“You’re mean.”
“Oh, like you aren’t gonna do the same thing when you’ve got her alone.”
He places a hand over his heart, “I would never. Now,” he checks his watch. “If you’ll excuse me, I need to have some carnal relations with my gorgeous wife.”
“You can’t even spell relations.”
He pokes his out from the side of the entrance. “Baby on board got me a word of the day calendar… sexy edition.”
She groans, walking over towards the window. “Bob!”
“Yeah?”
“You’re not in charge of gifts anymore.”
He whines, “why?”
“Your gift buying ability has been revoked.”
“But-”
“I said revoked!”
-
You reach for the towels to pat your face dry, when it’s closer than it normally is. “Jake.”
“Sweetheart.”
“What are you doing here?”
“You left the kitchen awfully fast; I had to come and check on you.”
The towel rests on your cheeks, leaving enough room for your eyes to catch his in the mirror. “Did you now?”
He nods, arms crossed, the bicep area of the shirt is incredibly tight.
You can only imagine the veins bulging in his arms and hands.
“Sweetheart?”
Your eyes snap up, you feel hot. “Sorry.” You place the towel down on the counter, wiping the edge of the sink.
His hand on top of yours stops you. He leans in, is my bratty baby suddenly shy?”
You scoff, “please.”
“It’s okay. You can tell me. Cowboy won’t judge you.”
The door clicks shut.
He fully intends to seduce you, you realize.
“Did you wear this to have an excuse for me to jump your bones?”
“I knew you would one way or another. You can’t just have me once.”
Your butt hits the counter.
“An eye roll, classic move sweetheart.”
“Shouldn’t you be-” He cuts you off, fighting you for dominance in the kiss; his hands tangle their way into your hair, holding onto you for dear life.
You smack his chest, he jerks back. “You- you can’t just kiss me whenever your horny.”
“I could do something else but-”
“No! I’m talking about today. We have a birthday party to attend and- and-”
He places his hat beside you.
“Oh, screw it.” You pull him into you, kissing him harder, teeth clashing and all.
He is more than ready, you chuckle.
He pulls back, staring at you with a confused expression, “what?”
You shake your head, the smile never going away. “Nothing, nothing. Come here.”
Jake grabs your wrists, holding then against the outer part of your thighs. “No, no. Come on, tell me what you find so sunny and I might help you, sweetheart.”
“You’re the one who needs the helping, sweetheart.”
He doesn’t have to look down, he knows. He plants gentle kisses along the side of your neck, throwing you off. “I know, that’s why you’re in here and not out there.”
You throw your head back and let him leave behind a clear trail. “No hickeys.”
“I know. I know,” he grumbles. His lips move along to your chest, his hands lift the bottom of your sundress only to find- “No panties?” His gaze snaps up to yours, that stupidly hot smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. “You plan on me fucking you, sweetheart?”
You pout, “no.”
“Really? So, you wore this pretty little thing with the shirt Coyote and Phoenix made and your flannel with no panties, for no reason?”
You don’t respond. “Just shut up and fuck me.” Your hands land on the back of his neck as you yank him closer. You swear the clinking of his belt has the hair on the back of your neck standing up.
He rubs his hard cock against your wet slit causing a whine to escape you. “Is my bratty baby getting impatient?”
“I’m not a brat,” you mumble against his neck, waiting for him to enter you.
He bumps against your clit a couple times, each bump drawing a hip thrust from you. He decides to stop torturing you and give what you both desperately need (not that he'd ever admit it). He slowly eases his way in. “It’s like last night never happened?”
“What?”
His hips hit yours as he lets you adjust to him for a minute. “You’re still so tight.”
“Is this something we really need to talk about right now?”
“… No.” He starts moving, getting an easy flow of things.
You cover your move, muffling your whines.
He smirks, watching as you pathetically attempt to quiet yourself. His grip tightens on the thigh of the leg you have wrapped around his waist. Jake leans in, yanking your hand away from your mouth, staring at your open mouth wondering if he could get away with you sucking his aching cock after taking care of you.
“We can’t stay… in here… for long,” you whisper, whining in between your words.
“Oh, yeah? Why’s that?” He leans in, moving his hands off your waist and onto the bottom of your thighs.
“Jake,” you whine and arch your back off the mirror.
“What’s wrong, sweetheart?”
You can feel the fake pout and sympathy he throws your way.
He lifts your thighs, forcing your knees against your chest as he quickens his pace.
You can’t think of full sentences because of how good you feel, moans, whines, and pleads escape you.
Jake loves this, loves when you lose yourself in him, letting him pleasure anyway he can. He drops one leg to reach down for your buzzing bundle, circling it at the same pace his hips snap into you.
You can feel yourself about to-
“Let go, sweetheart,” he mumbles, leaning over you. He rests his forehead on top of your head, the hand on your bundle disappears until he drags your hand (that was clenching the countertop) and directs you into rubbing your clit.
The warmth of his hand on yours disappears, only to now be felt on the back of your neck. He keeps a hold of your neck, preventing you from moving too much as his grip on your thigh tightens when you start to clench around his aching cock.
It’s like you’re having an out of body experience, you don’t realize that your hand is moving at a rapid pace.
He feels like he can’t keep up with you, but this is what makes it worth it (makes him harder and cum faster than he’d like too [although he’ll never admit it out loud]).
High pitched whines start escaping you. They’re too loud. Too loud. Jake pulls your head up, covering your mouth with his.
The noises still come out of you but aren’t as bad as before. His tongue enters your mouth in search of yours, intertwining with one another once found. “Come on, sweetheart. I need you to finish for me.”
You nod.
“Tell me what I said.”
“You… you need me-” You stop talking when you feel his hot hands on your waist, grip tight as he plows into you.
“Come on, come on.”
You throw your head back against the mirror, mouth agape but sounds escape.
He doesn’t slow down, not wanting to miss you come down from your high as his is catching up.
“Jake, it's too much.”
“You can take it. I know my bratty baby loves it when I push her,” he says with a taunting tone.
You couldn’t even begin to defend yourself if you wanted to, your vision goes white.
He stays still, spilling into you (again), panting against your shoulder. He removes his hand from your mouth. “How’s that for-”
You cover his mouth, shaking your head. “Don’t say anything.”
He nods, removing your hand, placing a kiss on your palm.
“We should... we should start cleaning ourselves for the party. Penny and Amelia will be here soon.”
“And the old man?”
“He’s Maverick, he shows when he wants to.”
He chuckles, “you got that right... maybe we could-”
“You are helping me off this counter so I can clean myself up so that we can throw our little boy a damn good birthday party.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
-
You two enter the hallway just in time because Penny and Amelia ring the doorbell, Maryanne and Edwin try to call one of the others over to open the door.
Jake grabs the boy before he could run back. “Here’s the birthday boy.”
He giggles when you poke his sides.
“How old are you now buddy?”
He shrugs, “I don’t know.”
“You know exactly how old you’re turning,” you tell him.
He jumps in Jake’s arms, smiling wide. “I’m seven!”
You nod, “yes you are.”
Javy runs in and pulls your husband and child outside with him.
“What- Javy!”
“Guys time!”
You roll your before turning to hug your other baby. “How was it?”
Amelia hands you the giant stuffed goose.
“Where are we putting this, baby?”
“I want him in the corner beside my bookcase.”
“Let’s go get him comfy before Natasha and Callie see it. You know they’ll try to steal him.” You hand her the goose and turn towards your favorite mother daughter duo. “Hello, Benjamins... or should I say future Mrs. Maverick.”
Penny shakes her head.
“There are drinks in the cooler somewhere in the kitchen and snacks on the dining table or if you’re feeling risky, the others are outside.”
“Mom!”
“Duty calls.”
“Hey,” Penny calls out your name. “Yeah, tell Jake to ease up on the pace, you’re walking a little funny.”
You gasp, “Penny Benjamin. How dare you-”
“Mom!” You walk away, hearing the sound of her laughter.
-
The kids from Edwin’s class arrived and it wasn’t nearly as bad as you thought it would be.
The pilots were rowdier than the kids, the kids.
Bob’s playlist was perfect, the kids were dancing and just having so much fun.
Jake approves of “DJ Bob” for the kids' birthdays but not for anything else (he’ll still use Bob because it’s cheaper and he can just pay him with soda, NOT candy... unless it’s before three then Bob’s fine).
You shook your head when you realized why Bradley ran out of the kitchen so fast.
Rueben, Mickey, Logan, and Neal decided it would be a good idea to try and play fireball (the exact same concept as it was on the show friends) thankfully they only used tennis balls.
Oh, and Brigham was the one who lit the tennis balls. It’s safe to say, they were not allowed to touch the candles.
Callie brought her sister and nieces (she didn’t want to leave her sister at her place and asked a few days before the party). The poor girl was so worried when she asked you about it the other day but how could you say no when her sister comes down with the kids every so often.
Mickey took great pictures, he’d walk over and show you after he took a few with the kids playing, Edwin opening his presents, the others being absolute idiots.
After the party he emailed the ones of you and Jake, he could have seriously been a photographer had he not become a pilot.
-
While Jake puts the kids to bed, you set Edwin gifts off the side so he can play with them tomorrow.
He comes to the living room and helps you. “Everyone’s gone.”
“No, you’ve gotten enough today, mister.”
“But-”
“Jake, no.”
“Jake, yes.”
He sees the expression on your face, his head drops. “Jake, no.”
-
You lay in bed, close to falling asleep when you realize he didn’t wear a condom.
Sure, he’s said that he wishes the kids were his but having a baby is completely different than older kids. Does Jake want kids? Would he leave if you told him? Or would he be like your crappy ex and just say he can’t do this and leave when they’re old enough to remember him. Is he the kind of guy to do that?
You look down at him when his grip tightens on your waist, head further snuggling into your chest. You lightly scratch his head. You don’t think, no, you know he wouldn’t do that, but your mind doesn’t stop these thoughts from coming.
That night you don’t get much sleep even more so when your baby Maryanne taps the two of you awake.

Jake:
“Daddy?”
Olive's steps are a delicate pattering in the hallway as she calls for him. Her fist rubs the sleep from one eye, forcing a half-blinded trek to the kitchen. The other hand has her stuffed dinosaur clenched within the vice grip of her fingers.
“Yea, baby,” Jake responds as he sips his coffee at the round table in their kitchen.
When she reaches his side, she pats his arm until he scoots his chair back far enough for her to crawl onto his lap. “Daddy, today?”
Jake sighs. He should have expected that question to be the first thing out of her mouth upon seeing him. It’s the first thing that’s come out of her mouth every morning since she found Jamie, and he found you. And while Olive is always the one to speak it aloud, it’s a question Jake has asked himself plenty.
It’s been a week since the theater. A week since you shared one popcorn while your children shared the other. A week since he asked if you’d be willing to set up a playdate. But the most that has passed between you since are a handful of text messages mentioning careers, your children, and confirming your single relationship statuses.
To say he’s moved faster with women in the past is an understatement so extreme it’s laughable, but with you, he can’t bring himself to push too far. Every time he writes out the message on his phone asking the four of you to get together, he is hit with the sudden thought that there is a lot on the line. While he doesn’t know much about you, what he does know is just a little too perfect. It makes him want to know more. More than he should.
He wants to know your past and how you see your future; your likes and dislikes; what kind of mother you are–though he suspects nothing less than wonderful. He wants to know about Jamie’s father and how involved he is; if he’s good to you, offering the support and kindness you and Jamie deserve. But then, that thought invites a new concern. If the father is in your life, should Jake allow his mind to continue wandering? Should he really be thinking about the single mother with a stunning face and a laugh that had his stomach fluttering, who also has a son his daughter’s age? You might as well have a halo above your head, and he doesn’t want to let you slip through his fingers, but his pulse races when he thinks of asking you to meet again. You could very well not feel the same. There’s a high chance you haven't been thinking about him as much as he has you.
So he hasn’t called. He doesn’t want to face the rejection. But it’s affecting his daughter now, who is rapidly growing impatient.
Olive tilts her head back, doe-like eyes staring hard at the underside of his chin until he surrenders and looks down. Her bottom lip protrudes in a pout.
“You promised,” she whimpers, and Jake snorts, fully aware of her manipulative tactics. “I wanna play with Jaime.”
She rarely asks him for anything; it truly is the least he could do for her. And maybe seeing you will help him gather the courage to ask what he is desperate to know.
“Alright, baby,” Jake agrees. “Today.”
The second Olive’s feet hit the sand, she beelines for Jaime.
The second his own feet hit the sand, he’s searching for you.
You’re close by, keeping a dutiful eye on the children as they meet in the middle with a tight hug. Jamie slightly lifts Olive off the ground which elicits a strand of giggles that are greatly overdue. The sight is a little squeeze to Jake’s heart. He wants her smiles always present; Her eyes permanently alight.
“How are you?” is the calling question that turns his attention. You’re walking toward him, and while there is no halo, the rays of the sun accentuate your silhouette in a comparable angelic manner.
“I’m good. Great,” he corrects as your face becomes more distinguishable. Still so beautiful. “And you?”
With that wide stomach-flutter-inducing smile, you shrug. “Never better.”
Once you’ve established beach rules and received speedy agreements, you both take a seat in the sand, maintaining a view of your children while staying far enough away to give them space to exercise their imaginations. Which they do to the utmost degree. With each game of tag played, the chaser transforms into a new ferocious creature—larger than the one before—until Jamie finds himself running from a mammoth with lollipops for tusks and a blue bow tied around its trunk. Ferocious indeed.
“It’s so easy for them,” you say. “They just slip right into it.”
Jake’s eyes meet the profile of your face as you stare at your kids in longing-like wonder.
“I never had that. Not really.” You finally look at him. “Not even with Jamie’s father.”
Were there sadness in your soft gaze, Jake wouldn’t perk up the way he does at the mention of the man he can’t avoid thinking about wherever he thinks of you. A man he’s assumed he might never hear the details of. While Jake isn't one to conceal the pieces of his past, it’s impossible to say—with such little known about you—if you approach the topic similarly. To Jake, the past is what made him who he is; good, bad, ugly. The past, however difficult, gave him his daughter, and he doesn’t refrain from speaking about that time simply because he is not ashamed of it.
Praying he’s not about to cross an unforgivable line, Jake cautiously says, “Would you tell me about him? If you’re comfortable.”
You blow out a long breath. A beat passes before you nod. “He’s not around,” you say, and Jake is met with a shameful pang of relief. “And left before Jamie was born.”
“Does he know?”
“Yes,” you reply. “But he changed the moment I told him. Grew angrier with each day. Started blaming me for not having taken precautions—like he was such a prize and I was trying to keep others from having a chance to claim him for themselves.” Your brow pinches and your toes dig into the sand as if to keep you grounded. “When I was seven months along, he met some girl at a New Year’s Eve party I was too exhausted to attend, and a month later he broke up with me to move to the other side of the country with her. I think they’re married now,” you say. “And I doubt she ever knew about me or Jamie.”
Jake’s silent as he takes it all in, thankful for what you were willing to share of your story, though there is likely more you’re not quite ready to divulge. Even so, the thought of you being abandoned at eight months pregnant is enough to simultaneously churn his stomach and invite a red hue to seep into the circumference of his vision.
You’re strong, he thinks. Stronger than many. Stronger than the man who tossed you and your son away.
You interrupt his thoughts with a question of your own. “Do you mind if I ask the same?”
Unafraid to tell his story, and eager to hopefully tighten the budding connection between you, Jake doesn’t hesitate to begin. “She’s not around, either,” he says. “And I have no idea where she is.”
From that answer alone, he notices your shoulders relax.
A shriek comes from ahead and Jake pauses to confirm it's of playfulness before continuing. “She never wanted Olive. I hate saying that, but she was honest from the beginning, and I thought I felt the same until the due date got close.”
With much of your attention given to him—the rest, of course, reserved for the children—his confidence grows.
“Somehow, it took almost nine months for the word ‘adoption’ to leave either of our mouths, though we both knew that was the path we were choosing. But hearing it—something happened to me.” Jake runs his fingers through his hair, recalling the immediate shift in his heart; remembering the relentless image plaguing his mind of a coin balanced on its narrow edge, able to land on either side. “I became unsettled, when before I was so sure. And it kept me up nearly every night until Olive came.
“When she finally did, I took one look at her and knew she was mine. More than mine by blood, but my daughter,” he says. “Her mother was pissed. Said she didn’t want me coming after her to demand she take responsibility down the line, but I swore I wouldn’t and I haven’t seen her since. I took Olive home to a house entirely unprepared for a baby, and that was it.”
Just as he had, you soak it all in. “Do you think she will ever come back?” You ask.
Purely out of respect for his daughter, Jake thinks about his answer for more than a half-second. No one has ever asked him that before. He hasn’t ever asked it himself. Because he already knows the truth.
He shakes his head and replies, “No. She’s not the type.”
With a nod, you say, “Neither will Jamie’s father. Not that I want him to. Jamie doesn’t know him and, for now, doesn’t seem to be missing that figure.” You pull your legs to your chest, wrap your arms around them, and settle your chin atop your knees. “But I fear the day I’m no longer enough for him. His friends will talk about their fathers, they’ll ask about his, and what will he say?”
Jake has been neglecting the very same worry for years. He’ll have a teenage girl one day. There are things she won’t want to talk to him about; things he isn’t sure how to comfortably explain.
But Jake doesn’t say that, though he should. Instead, he goes with what feels slightly more important at the moment—validation.
“You’re enough,” he says. “More than enough.”
In the silence that follows, you simply watch one another. Examining; deciphering; appreciating. And he could’ve stayed that way, but parental duties come first.
“Daddy!” Olive suddenly calls in tune with Jamie’s, “Mommy!”
You both break the held stare to greet the smiling faces of your children. Their hands alternate between burrowing into the ground for wet sand and dumping handfuls of softer grains over a mound of unidentifiable shape.
“Lookit! We are building our new house,” Olive yells, her arms spread wide with pride after smacking a chunk of damp sand onto the side of their sculpture.
Jaime nods with enough vigor to strain his neck.
“It’s perfect,” you say.
“You really like it?”
“We love it,” Jake confirms.
The four-year-olds share a triumphant grin before Jaime decidedly declares, “That’s good! All of us are moving in tomorrow!”

A/N: TY for the request. Love Jake sm!! Enjoy!
Pairing: Jake "Hangman" Seresin x Female Reader
Word Count: 2.4k +
T/W : Angsty in the beginning
Tumblr media
The house felt different without Jake. His absence echoed through the rooms leaving a void that seemed impossible to fill. As you sat on the couch the silence of the house felt deafening in Jake's absence. Your fingers absentmindedly traced patterns on your swollen belly seeking comfort in the life growing inside you. But despite the reassuring kicks and movements from your unborn child there was an undeniable sense of unease that settled deep within your heart.
Each day without Jake felt like an eternity. The minutes dragging on as you counted down the moments until his return. You tried to distract yourself with mundane tasks, but the worry and anticipation gnawed at your insides like a relentless tide. Jake made sure you weren’t completely alone though. His mom came to stay with you for a few weeks. Your mom popped over as she could as she lived a few hours away. Even friends would come over keeping you busy, and mind occupied when he wasn’t there. But the nights were always hard. Always when you craved his touch and sweet whispers. Six weeks was a long time for him to be away in the middle of your pregnancy, but you knew what you signed up for when you married him a few years ago.
Being accustomed to Jake's dangerous line of work did little to ease your anxiety this time around. If anything, the realization that you were six months pregnant only amplified your fears. Every news report, every phone call filled you with dread. You mind always seemed to imagine the worst-case scenarios playing out. To add insult to injury you couldn’t even call him or write him. They were on a no contact mission. Your least favorite.
You longed for his presence, his reassuring touch, his calming voice. But as the days turned into weeks, the void left by his absence only seemed to grow larger, consuming you with a sense of longing for the man you called your husband.
Perhaps it was just your maternal instinct kicking in, but the fear of the unknown loomed over you like a dark cloud. It cast a shadow over even the brightest moments. You tried to stay strong for yourself and for your unborn child, but deep down the uncertainty gnawed at your heart with every passing moment. Fortunately for you it was coming up on six weeks and thankfully it had been radio silent. That was the best-case scenario for these types of missions.
The familiar sound of the front door opening stirred you from your slumber though you remained in that hazy state between sleep and wakefulness. As you shifted slightly in bed you felt a pair of strong arms enveloping you pulling you into a warm embrace. Startled by the touch your eyes fluttered open. Y you were met with the sight of Jake, his beautiful face illuminated by the soft glow of the moonlight filtering through the window.
"Jake?" you murmured, your voice heavy with sleep and confusion.
He smiled over at you with his eyes filled with tenderness. "Hey, sweetheart. It's just me. Go back to sleep love." he reassured you. His voice a soothing melody in the quiet of the night.
You blinked trying to process the sudden appearance of your husband. "You're home early though," you observed, your heart fluttering with a mixture of surprise and joy. You were supposed to pick him up from the base in a few days’ time. This was a wonderful surprise though.
Jake nodded as he pressed a gentle kiss to your forehead. "The mission ended earlier than expected. Everyone was eager to get back home.  We all voted on coming back. I just couldn’t wait to see my beautiful wife." he explained. His voice tinged with relief as he watched you with the utmost love in his eyes.
You melted into his embrace. Feeling the warmth of his body against yours, the familiar scent of his cologne enveloping you like a comforting blanket. Despite the initial shock of being awakened from your sleep there was no place you'd rather be than in Jake's arms. As you nestled closer to him you became acutely aware of the changes in your body since he had left. The baby had grown significantly in the six weeks of his absence. Evidence of the new life growing inside you.
He shifted slightly in bed his hand finding its way to your larger belly now. With a tender touch, he traced gentle circles on your skin, his touch sending shivers down your spine. "The little one has grown a lot," he whispered, his voice filled with wonder and awe as he held you close to him revealing in your heartbeat. It was always a silent comfort he craved and missed so dearly while deployed.
You smiled feeling a surge of affection for the man lying beside you. "Growing big and strong just like his or her daddy," you teased while running a hand through his now shaggy hair. The two of you opted to keep the gender a surprise.
He chuckled softly as he pressed another kiss to your forehead. "I missed you, angel" he murmured. His words a silent promise of his unwavering devotion. And as you lay entwined in each other's arms the worries and uncertainties of the world faded away leaving behind only the overwhelming love and warmth that bound you together.
As the next day wore on, Jake couldn't shake off the feeling of being overwhelmed by your presence. Not that it was your intention. But the sheer intensity of your need for him seemed to permeate the very air around them. You craved him, your every move mirroring his own as if you couldn't bear to let him out of your sight for even a moment.
At first Jake found your clinginess endearing. It was a testament to the depth of your love and longing. A quiet declaration of your desire to be close to him after his long absence. He welcomed your affection. Your constant need for his presence filling a void he hadn't even realized existed.
But as the hours stretched on your constant proximity began to grate on his nerves. Every time he turned around you were there watching him with worried eyes. Your need for him palpable in every touch, every word. It wasn't that he didn't appreciate your affection – far from it. But the intensity of your clinginess seemed to smother him leaving him gasping for air in the suffocating embrace of your love.
Jake's time on the carrier had left him overstimulated. He was constantly surrounded by noise and activity. Now back in the familiar confines of home the silence seemed deafening, yet your presence felt like an onslaught of sensory overload. He longed for solitude, for a moment of peace to collect his thoughts and decompress after the chaos of his mission.
Your concern for him only heightened the pressure he felt. The weight of your worry pressing down on him. He knew you meant well, that your clinginess was a manifestation of your love and longing for him. But right now, he just needed space. With every touch, every word, he felt the walls closing in around him. The need for air becoming more desperate with each passing moment. He tried to push down the rising tide of frustration. To swallow the bitter taste of guilt that lingered on his tongue. But it was a losing battle.
As he retreated into himself seeking solace in the quiet recesses of his mind, he couldn't help but feel a pang of remorse at the hurt he knew his words would cause you. But in that moment he couldn't bear to think about anything except the overwhelming need to be alone. To find respite from the constant barrage of emotions threatening to engulf him.
No sooner had he settled on the couch trying to catch up on some much-needed rest. He felt your presence hovering nearby. You stood at the edge of the room. Your eyes never leaving him. Your need for his attention a silent plea that echoed in the silence of the house.
"Y/N, can't you find something else to do?" Jake finally asked. Unable to contain his frustration any longer.
Your heart sank at the sharpness of his tone, the hurt evident in your eyes as you took a step back. A tear welled up in the corner of your eye showing him the hurt you felt inside at the words he just spoke.
"I'm so sorry, Jake," you whispered. Your voice trembling with emotion. "I think it's the hormones."
Jake's heart sank at the sound of your voice. The weight of your words hitting him like a ton of bricks. He could see the hurt etched on your face. The vulnerability in your eyes tugging at his heartstrings.
His expression softened at realization of the pain he had caused evident in his eyes. "No, angel, it's not your fault," he murmured. His voice filled with regret. "I shouldn't have snapped at you like that. I was just... overwhelmed."
He reached out to touch your hand, but you pulled away feeling self-conscious over your sudden clinginess to him. With a heavy heart you turned away walking out of the room despite his profuse apologies. Jake watched helplessly as you retreated into yourself. The distance between you growing with each passing moment.
Jake felt a heavy sense of regret weighing on his chest as he watched you retreat away. Despite his apologies he couldn't shake the feeling that he had let you down. That he had failed to provide the comfort and reassurance you needed in that moment of vulnerability. He wanted nothing more than to reach out to you. To wrap you in his arms and soothe away the hurt he had caused, but he knew that he had to give you the space you needed.
As the hours passed Jake found himself pacing the empty rooms of the house. The silence you had grown accustomed to weighing heavily on his shoulders. He tried to focus on the tasks at hand to distract himself from the gnawing sense of unease that lingered in the back of his mind. But no matter how hard he tried he couldn't shake the feeling of emptiness that seemed to permeate every corner of the house. Was this how you felt when he was gone?
Meanwhile, you lay curled up on the bed. Your thoughts consumed by the events of the day. Despite your best efforts to push them away the hurtful words and the sharpness of Jake's tone echoed in your mind. You couldn't help but feel self-conscious of your actions, second-guessing every word you had spoken and every tear you had shed. Even when Jake checked in on you with his concern evident in every word and gesture you couldn't bring yourself to face him. Your need for solitude outweighing the comfort of his presence. You were embarrassed. How could you not pick up on the signs? Of course, he needed space. Missions were a drag. You knew that better than anyone.
And so, as the sun dipped below the horizon and the darkness of night descended upon the house you remained cocooned in your own thoughts. The distance between you and Jake stretching on indefinitely.
But as night fell and the quiet of the house enveloped them, Jake couldn't bear it any longer. He found you in the bedroom where you’d been all day, curled up on the bed. Your tears staining the pillow beneath your head. Without a word he crossed the room and pulled you into his arms holding you close as he pressed a kiss to your forehead.
As Jake held you in his embrace he felt the tension in your body slowly begin to melt away, replaced by a sense of warmth and comfort that washed over him like a gentle tide. He knew that you were pretending to be asleep, your breathing steady and even, but he also knew you too well to be fooled by the facade.
"I know you're awake, angel," he murmured, his voice a soft whisper in the darkness of the room.
You remained silent. Your eyes closed as you listened to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. The warmth of his body enveloping you like a protective shield. Despite the hurt and the distance that had grown between you, you couldn't deny the overwhelming sense of relief that flooded through you at his touch. The knowledge that he was there by your side, ready to mend the cracks in your fragile heart.
"I'm so sorry, angel," Jake whispered, his voice filled with sincerity. "I never should have snapped at you. I shouldn’t have taken that out on you."
You opened your eyes meeting his gaze with a mixture of sadness and longing. "I'm sorry too," you replied. Your voice barely above a whisper. "I didn't mean to be so clingy. I don’t know what’s going on with me." And with that you felt more tears falling.
Jake shook his head. His expression softening as he cupped your face in his hands. "No, baby, you have nothing to apologize for," he insisted, his voice gentle but firm. "I love how much you care, how much you need me. It's what makes us work. I let my own stress get the better of me rather than talking about it with you. I should have leaned on you instead of pushing you away."
As his words washed over you, a sense of relief flooded through you, the weight of guilt lifting from your shoulders. You realized that despite the challenges you faced, the love and understanding between you were stronger than ever before.
Jake's thumb gently brushed away the tears that still lingered on your cheeks. His touch tender and reassuring. Pulling you close, he wrapped his arms around you, holding you as if he never wanted to let go. His hands drifted down to cup your growing belly, whispering sweet nothings to the baby growing inside. The sensation sent your heart into overdrive with a surge of warmth spreading through you at the sight of Jake's adoration for your little one.
And as Jake leaned in to capture your lips in a tender kiss, you felt the steady emotion of love wash over you. The barriers that had kept you apart crumbling away in the face of your shared love and forgiveness.

Hey Pretty Girl

Please feel free to like, comment and reblog. Much appreciated and much love - marlie x
---
The First
“Hey pretty girl, slide me a bud, will ya?”
Blonde hair and blue eyes, a coy smile. Tanned skin pinched with a glaze sunned pink at the top of his cheeks and a clean pressed khaki uniform. The cap popped off of the glass with a fizz before you slid the bottle to him. “$5.50 for the boy in brown.”
“The boy,” he scoffed. Thick fingers gripped around the neck of the brew to coat his nails in condensation. The amber liquid swirled the enclosure of glass as he placed the rim to his lips. His eyes never left yours. “Not a boy. A man, darlin’. More of a man than any one you’ve had before tonight, I can assure you that.”
“And who said I wanted you, fly boy?” Your elbows were on the bar, leaning over the mahogany top. Even with the challenge of cleavage at your disposal, he never broke away from your gaze.
“Your eyes say enough. See ya soon, gorgeous.” He scribbled his name on the merchant copy of his receipt. A wink, the shine of a grin, and away he turned.
You grabbed at the soggy slip of paper to find chicken scratch handwriting with ‘Jake’ and a phone number written on the bottom. Jake, huh?
The Second
“Hey pretty girl, that spot’s perfect. Just like me, right?”
He had bought you a bundle of sunflowers on a whim. They were gorgeous and tall, standing bright against the navy of your entry way in the antique crystal vase your mom had given you. Jake had cleaned up nicely in a crisp button down and slacks for your date to the local brewery down on the coast and had bought the bouquet for you on the ride home from a local farm stand. “Now you can think of me every time you leave the house and smile to start your day.”
You rolled your eyes, an endeared grin on your face. “You’re an ass, Seresin.”
“Maybe, but I’m your ass and that makes me the best ass around,” he chimed, jokingly hitting the back of his rump. “And this ass ain’t leavin’ for quite some time doll.”
“Then tell me, baby, what happens if the flowers die? How would I ever remember you then?” You lovingly wrap your arms around the top of his shoulders, careening up on your tiptoes to touch his nose with yours.
His fingertips brushed a strand of hair that roguishly fell into your eyes. His eyes were the color of sea grass and his gaze was softly focused on your lips.  “Guess we’re just gonna have to go on more dates so I can get you more, right?”
The Third
“Hey pretty girl, may I have this dance?”
The reception was over and your feet were on fire, but you were finally home in your little shared apartment on base. Your hand, now coveted by a new diamond wedding band, sparkled under the high hat lights as Jake helped you up from the couch to the smooth sounds of John Mayer echoing in the background. Your white gown sweeped against the floor as he pulled you to his chest.
Jake, your perfectly perfect Jake, dropped a soft kiss to your forehead, to the tip of your nose, to your lips. “Mrs. Seresin,” he whispered at each pass of his lips. You let your bare feet stand atop his, still encased in his military issued loafers and let his strong legs take you on a slow rock in your living room. It was the first time today that the two of you had been just alone: where the room wasn’t vibrating with clinking glasses or loud party music.
Jake swayed with you gently even as the song changed, his hands dropped to your waist to rest on the crest of your bejeweled bum. You raised an eyebrow at your cheeky husband, who simply rolled his eyes and gave a boyish grin. “Just let me enjoy this baby.”
The Fourth
“Hey pretty girl, lemme help you, hold on.”
Jake’s large hands snuck underneath your rounded belly, lifting just enough weight to let your spine relax under the constant pressure of pregnancy. The dishes you were washing were suddenly forgotten and slipped from your fingers. A blissful sigh. “Ohhh, that’s the stuff, don’t stop.”
“Damn, all of my talent in bed and I’ve never heard you sound like THAT before,” he huffed, slowly letting your belly back down. “All I had to do was lift up peanut here and you’re putty, huh?”
You pouted at the returning strain and snatched his hands back to place. You tilted your head to the side to leave a kiss and a teasing nip on his bicep. His fingers tickled over your skin in amusement.
“Uh-uh, don’t even think about it, Seresin. You stay right there.”
The Fifth
“Hey pretty girl, I’m your daddy.”
Tears were welling up in his eyes while he held the small pink bundle in his arms. She was so sleepy after making her grand entrance, kicking and yelling the entire birth. “Oh my god, I’m your daddy!”
“She looks just like you.” You were laying in your bed, completely spent, but glowing after all of your hard work pushing your new little love into the world. “You’re gonna be a great daddy, Jake.”
“And you’re gonna be a great mommy, honey girl.” He carefully made his way over to the bed and sat on the side to let your little girl close. Her eyes were closed and soft little breaths were leaving her mouth. Jake leaned over to plant a chaste kiss into your hair, your nose, your lips. He lingered longer than normal, touching his forehead to yours.
“My pretty girls. All mine, all mine, until the day I die. I’ll never want nothing more than this.”
Bonus: The Sixth
“Hey pretty girl, I’m alright.”
You launched yourself at your husband, tears streaming down your face. He winced under your arms, but did his best to wrap himself around you through all of the wires tubing he was attached to. Safe. His smooth hands rubbed up and down your back as you sobbed into his shoulder, leaving light taps on his back. “Don’t. You. EVER. Do. That. Again.”
“What, eject? It’s either that or die, and I’m too good to die while I’m still so young and handsome. You don’t want me to leave you a widow so soon, do you?” His megawatt smile showed reassurance, but you weren’t so sure it was real. You knew Jake better than he knew himself. His eyes, blackened from his impact, held something behind them that wasn’t there before: a fear. His façade was cracking at your worry.
“You won’t lose me, pretty girl. I’ll be here. I’m not leaving.”
“Promise me?” Your eyes just wouldn’t stop tearing up. “Promise. Cross my heart and hope to die.” His fingers made an ‘x’ over his heart. “And I really, really don’t wanna die. I have my whole life with you to look forward to.”

Jake UT  [November 23, 2022 at 10:24 PM]
Hey stranger
Visiting my mom for Thanksgiving
How’ve you been?
You ignore the message. How you’ve been in the last twelve months is not something you feel up to discussing with him.
You spend the next weeks dealing with crisis after crisis at work, leaning into the chaos like you have been all year. Your personal life? Garbage fire. Reconfiguring your entire pump setup two weeks before going to production, because the DoC slapped an import ban on one of your key suppliers in China? You’re on top of it.
But then, the week before Christmas, another message comes in:
Jake UT  [December 17th, 2022 at 3:47 PM]
Hey
In town for the holidays
Would love to see you if you’re free
Brett welcome too, of course
A pang in your chest, but curiosity gets the better of you, so you text back:
Thanksgiving and Christmas? Judy must be thrilled.
You’ve met Jake’s mom all of one time, ten years ago, but she made a lasting impression. Fiercely protective of her only son, she’d been wary of you at first (you were, in order of importance: Too non-Texan, too vegetarian, and too focused on trying to rescue an almost-due group project for your sustainable water management class in which no one was pulling their weight).
And yet, over the Thanksgiving weekend you’d spent at Jake’s mother’s house in Colton, she’d slowly warmed up to you. You’d asked her endless questions about her job as a project manager at Austin-Bergstrom, and shed poured you half glasses of wine (still exotic, to you, back then) at the kitchen island, shooing Jake back into the living room.
She’d even called you, after you guys broke up, to say she was sorry to hear it, and to tell you to call her up any time you needed someone to talk to. You’d tried your best to keep your voice even, not to break down in tears for the seventh time that day, and never called her again.
* * *
“Dude. Put your phone away for two minutes.”
Jake looks up apologetically at his friend, and pockets the device. “Sorry. Just expecting a text.”
Sandeep holds out his bottle of Lone Star, and Jake clinks it with his own. “It’s good to see you, man. Sorry I wasn’t around at Thanksgiving, we were visiting Jed’s family in NC. I didn’t expect you to be back so soon.”
Jake takes a swig of his beer, the cold liquid feeling like a balm to his throat. “Yeah, well. It’s been a big year, work-wise, so they owed me one. I wanted to spend some extra time with my mom.”
Bringing up his drink to toast again, Sandeep says: “Here’s to you, bud. And to getting that permanent assignment in California. At least we knew where to send our holiday card this year.”
Condensation drips down the neck of his bottle, and Jake spins it slowly in his hand, stopping himself from peeling off the label. He feels on edge, unmoored, despite this 6th Street dive bar being as familiar to him as the back of his own hand.
Sandeep’s got his number. “Seeing anyone else while you’re in town? I don’t know, Myers?”
Jake doesn’t look up, but feels his cheeks heat up fractionally.
His friend takes another swig of his beer. “I guess I should stop calling her Myers. You know, with the divorce and all.”
The bottle escapes Jake’s grip, and amber liquid sloshes across the table, into Sandeep’s lap. “Shit, Seresin! Grab some napkins, will you?”
* * *
 2012
You’d always known there was an expiration date on this thing with Jake, which is why you’d been reluctant to meet his mom to begin with.
You wanted fundamentally different things. He, the Navy: Adventure, excitement, a chance to serve his country. You: Stability. A family. A place where you belonged.
Both of you: an opportunity to prove yourself.
It’s civil, as far as breakups go.
“You always knew I wanted to fly.” He says, over breakfast at Magnolia Café. There’s a hard set to his jaw that makes you soften in contrast, because of course you do, everyone who’s ever been near Jake Seresin for longer than ten minutes knows he’s always wanted to fly.
From your first date he told you about how Judy used to park him in her office at the airport when her summer childcare fell through; little Jake happily spending the day watching commercial jets taxiing and taking off in quick succession.
How her coworkers, the civilian engineers who’d stayed on after Bergstrom Air Force Base was decommissioned and commercialized, would regale him with stories about generations of F-4 Phantoms. Or the British Airways Concorde, one of only twenty of the ill-fated aircraft ever made, bringing the Queen to Austin in a little yellow hat. The Reconnaissance Air Meet bringing in the best fighter pilots from across all divisions of the military and abroad, to compete and show off their skills.
Jake would listen to them with stars in his eyes.
You pick at your migas, your appetite gone. “I know, Jake. I would never stop you.”
But you look at him, and you know your face mirrors his determination. “But I can’t come with you, Jake. I can’t start my career following you around from camp to base year to year. I’m forty-thousand dollars in debt getting this degree, and I need to follow my own plan.”
You haven’t moved in together, though Jake spends most of his nights at your tiny off-campus apartment, where you’ve made him countless cups of black coffee trying to fuel weekend study sessions. Where he would come in past midnight, back from the late shift at his part-time job at the H-E-B, and bury his face in your neck, waking you up even though you’d been asleep for hours. Where you would hold his sleeping head to your chest, his deep breathing somehow felt inside of you, and run your fingers up and down the bare skin of his back, trying to memorize him.
You’re twenty-two, you tell yourself. This is not the end of the world.
So you see him off at the front door, a box of his things clutched to his chest, and you force yourself to be strong. “You better be,” and you try to smile up at him, but you’re not sure you’re doing a convincing job, “You better be the best goddamn pilot the Navy has ever seen, Jake.”
For a second, he looks like he wants to say something, but then he just puts down the box, and pulls you into a last embrace. You sink into it, the fundamentally safe feeling of his arms around you, then make yourself pull away after a minute, pretending you don’t see the wet stains on his shirt.
Later you look at all the spaces in your apartment he is now conspicuously absent from (no dog-eared volume of Game of Thrones on the nightstand, no boots by the door), and it hits you then; the crevasse he’s left in your life. It may run deeper than you thought.
* * *
Jake had gone to Officer Candidate School in Rhode Island, then designator-specific training in Pensacola, Florida, and done his best not to think about you.
It helped that his days were intense and exhausting. It helped that, on liberty weekends, girls would flock to him and his friends in bars.
It helped to be several states away from you.
It helped to be living his dream.
* * *
There is a bit of a backslide, that first Thanksgiving after, where you both think it can’t hurt to see each other for one drink, for old time’s sake, which ends in him taking you up against the door in your new apartment, your legs wrapped around his waist because he does not have the willpower or presence of mind to figure out the way to your bedroom.
He knows it was a mistake, at about five AM the next day, when the blue light of morning starts streaming through a gap in the curtains, illuminating your tousled hair fanned out over the pillow, the steady rise and fall of your chest so familiar to him he could cry.
Untangling himself from you hurts, and he does perhaps the most cowardly thing he ever will: he sneaks out before you wake up. But next week he’s shipping out, and the thought of the same dead-end conversation over coffee made just the way he likes it is unbearable, so he makes himself walk away.
Somehow it’s worse, the second time around.
* * *
You’d met someone else, like he’d known you would. He sees the engagement announcement on Facebook, browsing on his phone between drills, and likes the post. It’s the third year he’s been away, and he’s at TOPGUN by then, so he has a lot on his mind. He has a girlfriend, even, a local: cute as a button, beats him savagely at pool.
It doesn’t fully hit him until the first time he sees you with your then-fiancé, at a little holiday reunion of college friends. He sees you with that ring on your finger, another man’s arm around your shoulders, and he gets an acute sense of the alternate reality that could’ve been his.
It feels a little like losing altitude too fast.
Your initial reception of him is understandably frosty, but you seem too genuinely happy to hold a grudge. By the third round, when he sidles up to you at the bar, you give him a quick hug, looking up at him with a smile that squeezes his heart: “I’m so proud of you, Jake.”
He nods, not quite trusting himself to speak, and pulls you back in, just for a moment, tucking your head under his chin. You smell like apple and magnolia, like nights spent with his nose pressed into your back.
You don’t invite him to the wedding, and he’s all too glad not to have to make up an excuse not to go.
* * *
Things settle, after that. Jake gets deployed and reassigned, breaks up with his girlfriend and eventually gets another. You get promoted to senior engineer, then project lead. You see each other, not every year but close enough, sometimes with your husband there, sometimes without.
He braces himself for the next Facebook post; that you’re pregnant, but it never comes. Over time, even that seems to lose some of its potential emotional impact on him.
Until three weeks ago, when you don’t text him back.
* * *
 2022
You kick your shoes off in the entryway, then head into the kitchen to pour a glass of water. Before you can reach the tap, the doorbell rings, and for a second you think somehow, some way, your terrible Bumble date has followed you home.
Grabbing the biggest kitchen knife you own off the magnet strip over the sink, just in case, you creep back to the door, barefoot, to press your face up to the peephole.
You don’t really expect to see the guy you just left, the ice in your glass not even melted before you were thinking up excuses to get out of there, but you sure as fuck don’t expect to see Jake either.
The door feels heavier than usual as you slowly slide it open, or maybe you’re just a little stunned. The night air hits your skin, and you can make out the sound of dogs barking in the distance.
For a long moment, Jake just looks at you, but then he says: “What were you planning on doing with that, sweetheart?”
You follow the jut of his chin down the line of your arm, and contemplate the knife for a second, Jake’s sudden appearance having made you forget all about it.
“I thought someone might have followed me here.”
“Ah.” He says, a spark in his eyes, clearly suppressing a smile. “If you were going to defend yourself in hand-to-hand combat, a knife is a terrible choice. I could give you some tips, though.”
Putting the damn thing down on your entryway console, you turn back to look at him. It’s not cold, exactly, in December in South Central Austin, but he looks underdressed: a long-sleeved light grey t-shirt, hands shoved in the pockets of a faded pair of jeans.
He looks good, you can’t deny it: he’s always had an immediate effect on you.
Jake, your somewhat gangly, sweet college boyfriend had it. Jake, ten years of military training later: older, filled out, fine crinkly lines starting to appear at the corners of his eyes (helped along by the California sun and God knows what far-off places), irrevocably still does.
You shake your head, trying to clear your thoughts. “What are you doing here, Jake?”
At that, his expression sobers, and he looks at you for a long moment before he says:
“You didn’t tell me.”
* * *
Fucking Sandeep, you think, rubbing the back of your hand across your eyes, because that fucker has not been subtle with the hints lately, tutting like a Victorian matron while you pass the time evaluating your Bumble matches with his husband during Monday night football’s ad breaks.
The granite of your kitchen countertop feels reassuringly cool beneath your thighs, and you take a deep breath, keeping your eyes on the tile below:
“I wasn’t ready.”
Jake huffs, or so you assume by the little sound that escapes him, as you determinedly face only his sneakers: “It’s been a year. You sure told everyone else we know.”
That makes your head snap up, emotion rising in your chest in a way you don’t like, have always had to tamp down when it comes to him, these last ten years. “Fuck off, Jake. You know it’s different when it comes to you.”
He leans back against the fridge, arms folded, just slightly lifting his right eyebrow at you in that irritating way of his: “I could’ve been there for you.”
Fuck it, you think, all cards on the table then. “I was heartbroken, and embarrassed, and trying to figure out how to exist on my own again after being married for five years to someone who didn’t turn out to be who I thought he was, Jake. Sorry my first impulse wasn’t to come cry on my hometown hero ex-boyfriend’s shoulder.”
His eyes soften, and he pushes off the fridge to come stand next to you, running his fingers over the edge of the countertop. “I’m sorry,” he says, voice quieter than a moment ago. “I’m being a dick. It’s just, you have to know, I would’ve been there for you.”
He pauses for a second, takes a deep breath: “It’s always been different when it comes to you too, sweetheart.”
You start to shake, a little, or maybe it’s your imagination. But your voice wavers as you say his name, everything about your tone a warning: “Jake.”
He closes his eyes, shakes his head: “Our timing sucked, and I don’t regret our decision from back then. I’m proud of who I’ve become in the last ten years, and I’m proud of you. You think I don’t keep up with what you’re doing? The articles you’ve published?”
This stuns you, momentarily. “No, Jake Seresin. If I’m completely honest, I didn’t think you gave a shit about the latest advances in Texas drought management.”
Just being near him, the familiar smell of him bringing up memories you’ve had years to unsuccessfully repress, is overpowering.
He makes it worse by turning to you, face so goddamn heartbreakingly earnest as he says: “I couldn’t give you what you deserved, ten years ago, but I always told myself, if I was ever in a position to…” He swallows. “I tried to forget about it when you got married, I tried to root for you and Brett, I swear.”
His hand settles next to your thigh, not quite touching, and your hand comes down on its own accord to cover his. He straightens almost imperceptibly, uses his other palm to wipe a tear that’s made its way down your cheek.
Cupping your face, he draws a deep breath. “I have a permanent assignment now, in San Diego. I know it’s…”
“Jake.” You interrupt, squeezing your eyes shut, grabbing the hem of his shirt. “I’m not remotely the same person I was back then.”
He moves to stand in front of you now, and you draw him in between your thighs. Suddenly it seems imperative that you feel him, that he holds you.
Dipping his head to yours, you can hear the smile in his voice, watery, tentative: “Then let me get to know you again. Get to know me again.” He leans one hand on the counter, the other tracing your cheekbone. “No pressure. I’m totally very cool about this. Whatever you want.”
You laugh, a little choked up through tears, but genuine. It feels liberating. “What if I say yes? How does this work?”
His smile broadens, eyes crinkling at the corners, and he’s so goddamn close, nudging your nose with his. “Come visit me, for a start. I’ll show you the sights.”
You draw him in a little closer still, legs wrapping around his waist, one hand finding its way into his close-cropped hair, and you could cry for how familiar he still feels after all these years.
But when you close the gap between your lips and his, it’s like coming home and yet not at all: he’s different and rougher and sharper and it floods you with emotion, something big and terrifying and old and new.
He leans into the kiss, grinning, cards his fingers through your hair before he moves to cover your chin, your brow, the space next to your ear with kisses, and you remember this with a jolt to your heart – how singularly intense it is to be the focus of Jake Seresin, like the strength of the sun is aimed at you, how he never does anything by halves.
You take his chin in your hand, kiss him again for good measure, before saying, into the stubble of his jaw: “One visit. No pressure.”
The grin he gives you in return could power half this city: “One visit. No pressure.”
He dips his head to yours again, kissing the skin behind your ear as he tells you: “Southern California has a lot of drought problems, you know. I’ve actually been reading some really scary articles about it.”

Our Nest (Bob Floyd x Reader)
Tumblr media
Summary: You and Bob are preparing for your little one's arrival and already, shenanigans have ensued
Warnings: Pregnancy, parenthood, Auggie being a menace etc.
Tagging: @floydsmuse @attapullman @callmemana @withahappyrefrain @rhettabbotts @sebsxphia and the lovely @bradshawsbaby my darling, I leave this as a little gift for you 🥰🥰🥰🥰
It was one of those gloriously warm spring days in Montana when all the flowers were in bloom, the windows of the house open to let in the breeze and the birds singing. The lilacs and the crape myrtles that you and Bob had planted after your wedding several years before had fully bloomed already, releasing their heady scents and causing more than a few sneezing fits.
Bob hummed a little as he organized the bookshelf in the corner of the nursery, right next to the rocking chair. Already Meemaw and Papa had sent over an old box of books that had been his when he was a baby, each one carefully picked with all the love in the world and inscribed with his date of birth and a message from Meemaw and Papa.
"Whatcha got Bob?" you asked folding one of the little blue onesies to put in the laundry.
"All the books that were mine when I was a baby," he answered. "Got Baby's Good Morning Book, Baby's Bedtime Book, Baby's Story Book, the Christmas Stories, Child's Story Book, Child's Fairy Tale Book, Peter Rabbit and.......looks like Winnie The Pooh too."
You couldn't help but ooh and aah over the books and their illustrations. You wished you could have a few of them to hang on the walls.
"Hey!" chirped a little toddler voice. "Get out me swamp!!"
You and Bob laughed when you saw Auggie running to the door with the kitchen broom as soon as the doorbell rang, when who should enter but Jake Seresin himself, greeted by his godson wielding a broom.
"Bob! I think Shrek's at it again!" Jake announced. "He's chasing me out of his swamp!"
"You're the one who had to show him that movie," Bob informed him.
Jake rolled his eyes as Auggie laughed and hugged his leg, hanging on for dear life and giggling like crazy as Jake lifted one leg and then the other.
"How goes Mommas?" Jake said, wiggling his eyebrows.
"Good, save for the fact that my husband is right there watching you," you chuckled.
"Hey it's called being courteous, it's technically not flirting," Jake explained.
"Although Natasha might disagree."
Jake made a noise that caught in his throat, his hand moving quickly to protectively cup his denim clad scrotum.
"That's what we thought," Bob said with a shit eating grin.
Jake gathered up Auggie to go and cause havoc elsewhere for the day, leaving you and Bob to finish putting together the nursery. You unpacked all the baby clothes, blankets, shoes and other things your family and friends had sent you over the last few months including adorable little bunnies, puppies, bears, elephants and duckies for your little boy.
"Oh remember this?" you laughed, unfolding one of the blankets from the box.
"Oh, my Uncle Red's wife made that years ago," Bob cooed, holding up the little ducky quilt. "I used to sleep with it every night and Mom had to wrestle it away just to wash it."
You and Bob shared a few laughs as you kept organizing and putting everything together. Outside, you could see two mountain bluebirds in the nest they had made in the crape myrtle, wondering if there were any eggs due to hatch. Already the chicks had begun to hatch while there were more horse and cow births happening at least twice a week. The bunnies too had been hard at work, their numbers multiplying in the last few weeks as well.
"Oof," you breathed, feeling your baby kick. "Oh I know little guy, you're ready."
Bob helped you up from where you had been sitting, letting you lean against him as his hand rested gently on your belly. "Did he drop?" he asked.
You nodded.
Bob smiled broadly as he knelt to kiss your bump. "Now you wait a minute mister," Bob chuckled. "There's still some things we need to get ready for you."
You laughed as Bob pressed a sweet kiss to your lips. He wasn't wrong. Even though you were days away from giving birth, there were still so many things to do in such a tiny time frame.
The next few days were spent prepping the house and finishing the nursery. The laundry and the last of your knitting went smoothly although your cats would have said otherwise. Bluey and Echo, Bob's two blue-heelers, had taken to fetching the oddest things from the other rooms which led to an odd assortment of everything piling up in the living room. But you wouldn't have had it any other way.
At last, the day had come, a warm and calm night when you woke up suddenly after your water broke unexpectedly. Jake and Natasha came to take Auggie back to their place for a while, while your midwife came to the house to help. Bob stayed with you the whole time, just as he had done with Auggie, letting you squeeze his hand as you relaxed in the warm bath.
At long last, on June 1st, at 1:30 in the morning, your sweet little boy, Patrick Lewis Floyd, was born; sharing a birthday with Bob's father Joe. As soon as you were back in yours and Bob's shared bed, he snapped a few photos and sent them to his parents, siblings and the Daggers. It's not long before his phone is flooded with messages, all from the proud aunts, uncles and grandparents of your new little boy.
Joe and Irene, Bob's parents, are proud as ever of their grandson and of you both, more so now that Joe can joke about Patrick being his birthday present for that year. His Meemaw and Papa are all too proud to be great-grandparents again, all of them offering to come by and help with whatever is needed.
You and Bob wake later the next day at the sound of Patrick's fussing in the little bedside bassinet, Bob carefully lifting him into his arms and bringing him to the window to hear the birds singing. Patrick calms right down as soon as he's heard the birds sing and as soon as he's latched onto you to feed.
And when you and Bob are snuggled in your shared bed with Auggie coming in to see his new baby brother, you are both overjoyed and happy at the little nest you've built together.

Tumblr media
You use every opportunity to distract yourself from the fact that Jake is gone and you don’t know when he’ll be back. If he’ll be back. You really try your best not to think too negatively, but you can’t help worrying. You just hope it gets better with time, because you know for a fact that you’re going to be with Jake when he comes back. If he comes back.
You shake your head to get rid of these thoughts. You have to stay positive, if not for you then for Josie. She’s the ray of hope in your dark thoughts. She doesn’t even consider the fact that Jake might not come back. You know it’s because she doesn’t know the severity of this mission and the dangers of his job in general. But it still cheers you up.
Thankfully, your week is packed full with promo for your new book. You’ve got several signings and interviews, and you thank whoever is responsibly because it couldn’t have come at a better time. Josie spends a lot of time at Penny’s while you’re working. Penny is restless as well. With your whirlwind of emotions around Jake’s return you completely missed that Penny rekindled an old romance as well. And now you’re both praying that they’ll get back from their mission unscathed.
You’re in LA for the day, being interviewed and doing a signing in a small bookstore. Just like the days before, you’re thankful for the distraction. But it’s also exhausting. You’re not used to this much human interaction, and as much as you love seeing your little readers’ smiling faces and listening to parents tell you how much they love your books, you feel like your own smile is stuck on your face. Your cheeks are hurting. And it’s draining to pretend to be carefree.
When you finally leave at the end of the day you can’t wait to pick up Josie and go home. You honestly just want to sleep. This was your last commitment for a while and you’re already thinking about just spending a week doing nothing except play with Josie. You need to recharge your batteries.
Back in San Diego, Josie seems equally as excited to see you.
“Thank you so much for looking after her and Muffin,” you give Penny a hug.
“Don’t worry about it.” Penny waves her hand dismissively. “I love spending time with these two. And I know both of us could use the distraction.” She gives you a lopsided smile.
You nod your head. “Yeah I guess so. It’s just hard not knowing anything.”
“They’ll come back.” Penny sounds certain, but you know she’s trying to convince herself as much as she’s trying to reassure you.
You feel yourself tearing up, so you just nod again. “You have fun on your sailing trip okay?” Penny and Amelia decided to go on a spontaneous sailing trip first thing tomorrow morning. You know it’s another distraction for Penny, but you don’t mention it.
“We will! And you get some rest, okay?” She gives you that concerned mom look and you have to roll your eyes.
“I don’t think I have much of a choice.” You laugh. “I’ll probably go to bed right after tucking Josie to sleep.”
Penny laughs, then you call for Josie and head out after saying goodbye to Penny.
Dinner consists of Josie’s favourite take-out, you’re too tired to cook anything and you live for the smile on Josie’s face.
“This is my most favourite!” Josie exclaims and throws the rest of her chicken nugget into her mouth.
You chuckle, “I know, honey.”
“We need to go there again when Daddy comes back.” She says it so matter of fact it makes you smile sadly.
“We will.” You pat her hand gently. “I’m sure he’ll love it just as much.”
“More than me?” She looks at you with wide eyes.
“Now, that’s impossible. He doesn’t love anything more than you.” You run the back of your hand over her cheek and she smiles.
“Not even you?” It makes you stop for a second. You’re pretty certain he was about to tell you he loves you before he left, but maybe he wanted to say something completely unrelated? You’ve been mulling it over for days, and the more time passes the more you doubt that that’s what he wanted to say. But there’s still a small glimmer of hope somewhere inside you.
You don’t exactly know what to say, so you settle on, “Not even me.”
Once you’ve tucked Josie into bed you change into more comfortable clothes and curl up on the sofa. You don’t think you can pay attention to anything on TV but you turn it on anyway, even if it’s just a background noise to your spinning thoughts.
✩̿✪̿✩̿
It’s after Josie’s bedtime when Jake uses the key you gave him for the first time. He could’ve rung the bell, the lights in the living room are still on, but he wanted to surprise you.
Muffin greets him at the door, his tags giving a soft jingling sound not unlike Jake’s dog tags. He smiles.
“Did you look out for our girls? Yeah? Good boy.” He rubs behind Muffin’s ear, then ventures further into the house. He can faintly hear the TV in the living room, so that’s where he goes, the sound of his heavy boots muffled on the carpet.
There you are, curled up on the sofa, asleep. Jake smiles to himself. He missed you so much. He was only gone for a week, possibly the shortest mission he’s ever been on, but he missed you the second he said goodbye.
He doesn’t really want to wake you, if you fell asleep on the couch you probably need the sleep. But he wants to see your eyes, your smile, wants to hear your voice. So he slowly crouches down by your side and gently pushes your hair out of your face before running the back of his hand over your cheek, back and forth until your eyelids start to flutter.
“Hey, sweetheart,” he whispers and then your eyes finally snap open. He watches as they fill with tears and then you throw your arms around his neck and pull him close. It only takes him a millisecond to reciprocate the hug. Holding you tight, he leaves kisses on your temple.
After a while you lean back to look at him and seeing the tears streaming down your face breaks his heart. “What are you crying for?”
“Happy tears,” you assure. “I’m just happy to see your stupid face again.”
He chuckles, “You don’t think my face is stupid.”
You shake your head. “No, I really don’t.”
This makes Jake laugh out loud. He squeezes you a little tighter. “I missed you, too.”
And then you stand there just looking at each other.
*
He’s home. You still think you’re dreaming as you stare at him standing right in front of you. His green eyes are sparkling in the low light of the living room and you’re filled with such a warmth you can’t put it into words. Or maybe you can. Because it’s love. You love him. You’re about to open your mouth and just blurt the words but Jake is quicker.
“There’s something I promised to tell you when I get back.” He whispers, running his thumb over your cheek.
You nod, “And what’s that?” You don’t dare speak louder than a whisper, afraid to burst the bubble you’re in.
Jake’s eyes roam over your face before they lock on yours again. “I love you.” He says and then new tears are in your eyes.
“I love you, too.”
Jake seems just a little bit surprised at your words, “Yeah?” he sounds hopeful.
“Yeah,” you nod, “so much.”
“C’mere.” And then he finally pulls you into a kiss. You bury your hands in his short hair and pull him as close as you possibly can.
Never before has a kiss made you feel this much. Kissing Jake has always been special, you used to think it was just because of the sexual tension between you two, but it’s more than that. You don’t ever want to kiss someone else ever again.
Somehow you end up straddling him on the sofa, his hands on your hips. You feel him growing hard beneath you and it doesn’t help with curbing your own arousal. As you start grinding your hips against his, Jake moans into your mouth.
“Maybe we should take this to the bedroom,” you say, after pulling away just enough to talk. The tip of your nose is still brushing against his.
“You sure? We don’t have to.” Jake leans back just a little bit more so he can look at you. His thumbs have slipped under the fabric of your t-shirt, rubbing gentle circles on your skin.
“I’m sure,” you nod. “I wanna feel you.” You feel Jake’s hands tighten around your hips before he lets out a breath.
“Okay,” he gives you one more deep kiss before he lifts you up and makes his way over to your bedroom. He gently lays you down on your bed, his hands roaming over your body and you don’t think you’ve ever wanted anybody so bad.
You tried dating a few times since Josie was born, but nothing ever came of it. Did you need someone to scratch that certain itch every once in a while? Yes. And you got that. But it never became more than that.
But this? This didn’t feel like you needed to scratch an itch, to just get it over with and then you can go on with your life. Nothing has even really happened yet and you already know you won’t be able to get enough of him.
Slowly, so slowly, you undress each other. Both of you cherishing every inch of skin exposed. Until you’re bare in front of him, your knees either side of his head while he trails kisses over your inner thighs.
“So pretty,” he murmurs against your skin. “I missed your pretty pussy so much.” He gently runs his thumb over your clit and it sends a jolt of electricity up your spine. “Missed your taste.” And then he leaves a kiss on your clit before licking a stripe up your middle. “So sweet,” he hums before doing it again. All you can do is bury your hands in his hair, arch your back and pull him closer.
It’s like devouring you is Jake’s favourite pastime, he’s got his eyes closed, one of his hands gripping your thigh, the other on your belly to keep your hips steady. And every time you’re about to come, he moves away and peppers kisses on your inner thighs again.
“Jake, please.” You finally whine, tugging on his hair.
“Please, what?” You can hear the smirk in his voice.
“Need you inside me.” You give his hair another tug, and he finally crawls over you, so his head is hovering over yours. You can smell yourself on his lips and it makes even more warmth pool between your thighs.
You can’t really read the expression on his face until he says, “I didn’t bring any protection.” He gently moves your hair out of your face.
“I don’t have anything here either,” you realise. You weren’t expecting to have sex anytime soon. Were you thinking about doing it with Jake? Absolutely. But you didn’t allow yourself to actually consider it until he was home safe. You sigh. “And I’m not on birth control, either,” you admit. “It should be a safe time though …” you trail off. Is it reckless to have unprotected sex when you’ve already had an unplanned pregnancy? Yes, absolutely. Is the thought as scary as it should be? No.
“You mean …?” Jake tilts his head.
“I’m healthy. And if you’re planning on sticking around …”
Jake places a soft kiss on your lips. “I’m sticking around. I’m not gonna leave again, unless you want me to. I might not always be around, but I’ll always come home to you. Always.” The honesty in his voice makes you tear up again. You wind your legs around his hips and feel him heavy against your thigh.
“If you’re okay with it … I’m willing to risk it.” You haven’t even fully uttered the sentence before his lips are on yours again.
“I’m willing to risk it with you any time, sweetheart.”
“I love you,” you say and pull him into another kiss.
“And I love you. So much.”
And then he positions himself at your entrance and slowly pushes in. You throw your head back because it just feels that good. When his hips are flush against yours he pauses for a second, both of you enjoying the feeling of finally being together.
Jake starts moving in and out of you slowly, filling you with leisurely thrusts. And it feels so good. Until you need more.
“More,” you moan.
“Sweetheart, I’m not gonna last.”
“That’s okay.”
“I want you to come first.”
“I’ll come with you.” You move your hands between your bodies and start rubbing your clit. It doesn’t take long for Jake to pick up his thrusts, the tip of his cock rubbing against your g-spot every time.
“Fuck,” he grunts, his movements becoming erratic.
“Come for me Jake,” you whine. “Come inside me, please.”
You feel him starting to twitch inside you. “Oh fuck. Fuckfuckfuckfuck.” And then he’s kissing you again, swallowing your moans while bucking his hips into you, his release painting your walls and you’re right there with him. Goosebumps are covering your body and all you can feel is him.
You stay like that for a while, both of you catching your breath, his heavy weight on top of you, but you’re enjoying it. You feel safe, you feel loved.
When Jake pulls out his eyes are fixated on the way your combined come drips out of you.
“So fucking beautiful,” he runs his fingers through your folds, spreading your juices, and starts playing with your clit. A moan bursts out of you.
“You got one more in you”?
“I don’t know, Jake.”
“C’mon, baby. One more.” The nickname is new, but you don’t mind it. It makes your insides flutter.
“Kiss me.” He obliges, his thumb on your clit as he enters you with two of his fingers while kissing you senseless. When he moves his kisses down your neck you can’t contain your moans.
“You gotta be quiet, baby. As much as I’d love to hear you scream for me. Can you do that for me?” You nod and bite your lips together. “Good girl.”
It doesn’t take long until you’re on the edge again and with one more flick of your clit you’re coming again.
“That’s it. That’s it, baby. Just like that. Look at you. So gorgeous.” Jake’s words and his gentle caresses carry you through your orgasm until you’re completely spend and you’re too sensitive. When he notices, he moves his hand away and gives you another kiss. “My sweet girl. So good for me.”
“I love you.” It seems you can’t stop telling him.
His eyes crinkle as he smiles. “I love you.”
 ✩̿✪̿✩̿
You’re woken up by a trail of kisses being left on your shoulder. You’re still tired but at the same time you feel like you’re filled to the brim with energy. You and Jake didn’t get much sleep last night. Turns out when he said ‘one more’ he was lying. Because there were two more in the shower after that.
You slowly turn around so you can look at him. His hair is messy and the warm sunshine falling through the window makes him look like an angel.
“Hi.” You can’t contain your smile and Jake mirrors your expression.
“Hi, with the arm he’s got wrapped around you he pulls you closer to him. “Good morning, sweetheart.”
You didn’t think it was possible but your smile becomes even bigger. “Good morning.”
“You look happy.”
“I am.” You admit. “Could get used to waking up like this.” You wind your leg around his hip, and you can feel him against your core even through multiple layers of clothing, it’s enough to make your heart start racing. The look in Jake’s eyes becomes heated.
“Yeah?” His hand moves to your ass and gives it a squeeze. It makes you giggle.
“Mhm.” You nod, shuffling just a little closer to him.
“Well, funny you mention that, actually.” Jake’s hand is running over your back and it takes a moment for his words to register.
“Huh? What do you mean?” You sit up a little, shifting so now Jake’s on his back while you’re partially hovering above him.
“I’ve got this new position that requires me to stay in San Diego long term. And I kind of need a place to stay.” You can only look at him with wide eyes. What? “I don’t have to … I can just … If you don’t want me to, I can look for a place of my own. I didn’t mean to just … invite myself, I guess. I just thought—“
You interrupt him with a kiss. “You’re staying here?”
“Yeah,” he nods and smiles a little sheepishly. “I got a position at Top Gun. Nothing special but with the possibly of becoming an instructor one day.” He shrugs. “I’ll be right here for the foreseeable future. I wanna be close to you and Josie. Even if you don’t want me moving in, which I understand—“
“You want to move in?”
“Of course I do. We’ve already lost so much time, I’ve lost so much time with Josie … I don’t want to lose any more. You’re it for me sweetheart. I’m gonna marry you one day.”
Your mouth drops open at that.
“If you want to.” He smiles. “I want to give you your dream life, with the husband and the white picket fence … two point five kids.“
You pinch him playfully, but then lean in to give him another kiss.
“Sounds like a plan,” you murmur, before kissing him again. Jake pulls you closer and you can feel the smile on his lips. He breaks the kiss and you can tell he’s about to say something when you hear the door being opened slowly.
It’s Saturday morning, and that usually means Josie will come over for some cuddles before breakfast. You turn to the door with a smile.
Josie pokes her head in, her hair messy from sleep and here eyes still halfway closed. That changes when she notices you’re not alone.
“Daddy?”
“Hey, Peanut.” That’s all it takes for Josie to come running towards the bed, climbing on it and tackling Jake in a hug.
“I missed you soooooooo much,” Josie shouts, and Jake laughs.
“I missed you, too. Every second of every day,” he smiles.
 ✩̿✪̿✩̿
Just like you promised yourself you would, you spent the following week doing nothing except spend time with Josie. Except, you’re not doing it alone but with Jake. He’s got a bit of free time before starting his new position and while he needs to move his stuff down from Lemoore, he claims he doesn’t have much to move, one trip would suffice.
Together, the two of you decided to just take the plunge and have him move in. Why waste any more time? Josie was quite possibly the biggest fan of that idea. Jake will have a shadow 24/7 if she has her way, but you don’t think Jake would have a problem with that.
“You ready?” Jake pokes his head into the bathroom, where you’re finishing your make-up.
“Almost.”
“I love you.”
You turn to Jake with a smile. He’s been saying it every chance he gets, says he needs to make up for the last six years.
“I love you, too, you big goof.”
“Hey!” He playfully pouts, “don’t let the others hear you call me that. I have a reputation to uphold.”
You raise an eyebrow. “And what would you like me to call you instead?”
Jake stalks into the bathroom, pretending to think. He wraps his arms around you from behind, resting his chin on your shoulder. “How about Daddy?” He whispers and you can’t stop the goosebumps from appearing on your arms.
“Why am I not surprised?” You laugh. “Should’ve known you’re into that.”
Jake hums, then says, “Only because you made me one.”
*
The Hard Deck is not super busy this evening, it’s still early and the middle of the week but Jake wanted to introduce you to the people who made sure he got home safe. Even though he was the one who saved Maverick and Rooster, but Jake won’t be petty. Maybe.
Jake’s almost bursting with excitement as he pulls you by the hand, Josie on his hip. The group’s chatting in the back of the bar but as soon as they spot Jake all conversation stops.
“Is that Bagman or am I hallucinating?” Phoenix stage whispers.
Coyote nods, “I think it’s real.”
Jake rolls his eyes before pulling you into his side. “I wanted you guys to meet my family.” He introduces you, then looks at Josie. “And this is my daughter Josie.”
Josie blushes, then rests her head on his shoulder and waves.
For a moment the rest of the squad just stare. Then Phoenix is the first to speak up again, “Hi, Josie. It’s so nice to meet you.” She gives Jake a look as if she’s never seen him before.
“I guess that explains where you’ve been half the time.” Coyote muses.
“I had some groveling to do,” Jake nods. “And they’re much better company than you guys.”
The whole group breaks out into protest but Jake just shrugs his shoulders.
He turns to you, “You good on your own for a moment? I’ll go get us something to drink.”
“Of course, go ahead.” You smile and for a second Jake just takes you in, then he sets Josie down beside you and gives you a kiss.
“I’ll be right back.”
At the bar, Jake leans against the bar top and watches as you talk to the squad. He didn’t realise it, but while he was starting to rebuild his relationship with you and getting to know Josie, the three of you slowly becoming a family, he also gained another family. He knows he was an asshole when they were first put together as a team, but ultimately, he grew to love these people. Even Rooster.
As if he had conjured him, Rooster shows up next to him. A certain understanding pass between the two men, then Rooster says, “You look good, Hangman.”
Jake huffs a laugh and smiles, “I am good, Rooster. I’m very good. I’m happy.”

A/N: This is it... the end. For now at least. I wanna write an epilogue so that will be coming but then it's time to say goodbye to these :(( who else is sad about that?
