SKA pin: Quick History lesson because I had no idea what it was: definitely google more:

SKA is a music genre that originated in Jamaica. In the 70s a lot of Jamaicans immigrated to the UK. Punks and young Jamaican immigrants felt a sense of unity due to both being screwed over by the system. This led to 2 Tone SKA which mixed SKA with punk rock elements. While 2 Tone SKA is a genre, it was also a movement that focused on racial unity.

Rude Boy patch: In late 60s Jamaica RudeBoys were young “delinquents” who listened to rocksteady music. Term was used in England to refer to fans of SKA and 2 tone. Think the other insults used for punks that have been reclaimed.

Checker Print pin: Represents racial unity in the movement.

Target patch: Symbol for the Mod subculture. Google this one to.

Union Jack pin (on bag) and patch: He sure is British

Smiley face pin: I believe it’s just a generic smiley face but it could be a logo.

Unknown metal(?) pin: I can’t get a clear enough look at it to even begin to guess what it is.

Unknown pin: I have no idea. The one between the metal one and the checker print. No a clue.

Unknown flag(?) pin: A flag with horizontal blue, yellow, and red stripes but I can’t find anything with those colors in that order.

time for another episode of Bragging About My Food bc my mom got back from jamaica and brought a bunch of things to cook with and it’s reawakening my love of food after 2 weeks of eating with just my dad SO tonight’s hella late dinner will consist of:

brown stew chicken, rice + peas (which i will douse in pickapeppa), salty stewed greens, roasted pumpkin, veg patties, coco bread + cheese, fresh mango, rum cakes in banana chocolate and coffee variety, coconut tarts, and a suitcase of my favourite snacks (wheat snackers, shirley biscuits, plantain crisps my beloved)

#the only thing she forgot were bumpies. a loss i am willing to live with. for now.#disclaimer: my mother is not jamaica but i grew up with jamaican culture for reasons too long to list here #so she knows how to do it #another disclaimer: my dad can cook… other types of things.#however we did not do much cooking while she was gone. we basically made street tacos and ate out and that’s it.#which is fine it was good (sometimes…) but there rly is nothing like ur mother’s cooking #esp after 2 weeks of Dad Food #luckily for me my mother can make any type of cuisine known to womankind #anyway ik no one cares but i’m a foodie at heart when i’m not in a depression hole so here u go anyway 🫶🏻

also tom hooper has done irreparable damage to the movie musical as a genre including and especially the live action disney remakes and i will never forgive him for that

#he's the reason i didn't get to see fish playing instruments in under the sea he will burn in hell #it's the obsession with Gritty Realism and the fact that les mis actually did really well and now every executive thinks musicals have to #be Realistic™ and won't let anything be stylized or interesting #Realism™ works for some musicals like i think spielberg's wss is a masterpiece #but he also made it colourful and fun and dreamlike in places and it worked so well #but he's Spielberg he can do anything #but anyway a lot of musicals aren't Realistic and that's okay!!!#some musicals are about singing cats and jamaican crabs and fairytale characters hanging out in the woods #Realism™ has nothing to do with it!!!!!!! tom hooper you are my parasocial enemy!!!!!!!!!!!!
