Ahead of the January transfer window, which is fast approaching, I look at who Sarri needs to sell in the next two transfer windows. Earlier this month, i have wrote an opinion piece for Sportstalkline about where Sarri need strengthening and who he should look to sign in the upcoming transfer windows. However in this article, i look at the 'deadwood' that Sarri needs to consider moving out of the club in the next 2 transfer windows.
1. Victor Moses- Linked with Crystal Palace
Victor Moses has now had 2 spells at Chelsea.
He's had alot of success in his current spell at Chelsea, especially in the 2016/17 season, when Antonio Conte revitalized the Nigerian. Conte turned the Nigerian winger into a right wing back. He was essential in Conte's title winning season.
During the 2016/17 title winning season, Victor Moses made 34 appearances. He scored 3 goals as a right wing back in that season.
In all his 220 appearances in the Premier League with Wigan, Liverpool, Stoke, Chelsea and West Ham, Victor Moses has scored 20 goals and has 18 assists to his name.
In terms of honours and awards that Moses has won during his career, he won the Premier League under Conte in the 2016/17 season. He also has a few FA Cup's to his name.
It is clear this year, that Moses is not in Sarri's plans, so the time may be right for the Nigerian winger to move on.
And reports came out this week from the Evening Standard, that Crystal Palace expect to sign Victor Moses in the January transfer window. And personally i think it is time for him to move on to another club in the Premier League, where he will get more game time.
So do i think this move could happen?
Yes, i think he will leave Chelsea in the January transfer window, which opens in 10 days time.
2. Davide Zappacosta- Linked with a return to Italy. Clubs linked include Inter Milan
Davide Zappacosta was signed by Conte on the last day of the summer transfer window (2017/18) before the start of last season.
He reunited with Conte , who selected him for Italy in 2016 when he was the Italy manager.
Chelsea paid Torino £23 million pounds on Deadline day last season.
Since then, Zappacosta has failed to impress, and therefore has always played second fiddle to the right back/wing back slot. Under Conte, he was second fiddle to Victor Moses, and this season under Sarri, he is currently second fiddle to Azpilicueta.
In total, Zappacosta has made 24 appearances for Chelsea in the Premier League over 2 seasons so far. He has 1 goal and 1 assist in the Premier League, and has only kept 3 clean sheets so far for Chelsea in the League.
In terms of honours and awards, Zappacosta only has an FA Cup title to his name, which he won last season, part of Conte's squad.
Reports came out earlier this season from sources like ESPN, that Zappacosta wants to make a return to Italy, and Inter Milan have been the club who have shown an interest in the Italian defender.
One aspect that is worrying in terms of Zappacosta's Chelsea future, is that he's not even being used in all of Chelsea's cup games, including Chelsea's win over Bournemouth in midweek, when Sarri opted for Azpilicueta over Zappacosta at right back.
So do i think this move could happen?
Yes, but am not sure if he will be sold in January or the Summer. If Chelsea sign Hysaj in January who has been heavily linked with reuniting with his former manager, then he is likely to leave in January. However if Hysaj is signed in the Summer, then i think Zappacosta will leave in the Summer.
3. Danny Drinkwater- Linked with Fulham, and a return to Leicester. Has also had links to West Ham.
Drinkwater was signed by Conte on deadline day on the dawn of the 2017/18 season, for a fee of up to £40 million pounds.
Drinkwater has made a total of 22 appearances for Chelsea, but all of them came last season under Conte!
The English midfielder has made no appearances for Sarri so far this season.
And he doesn't look like making many more for Chelsea, as Sarri admitted in his press conference today that there is no place for Drinkwater in his team.
Therefore, Drinkwater looks certain to leave Chelsea.
At his time at Leicester and Chelsea, Drinkwater has made 99 appearances and has scored 4 goals in total. He also has 8 assists to his name.
In terms of honours and awards, Drinkwater was involved in Chelsea's FA Cup squad last season who won the Cup. But most importantly, Drinkwater has a Premier League title to his name with Leicester under Ranieri in the 2015/16 season.
So do i think that this move will happen?
Yes, It looks like either he will reunite with Ranieri at Fulham, or make a return to Leicester in January. The comments from Sarri in today's press conference show that he is not in his plans going forward. Drinkwater needs to leave and end this nightmare. Unfortunately this Chelsea move hasn't worked out for him. I think he is highly likely to leave in January.
4. Alvaro Morata- recently linked with a shock transfer to Barcelona. Also linked to AC Milan yesterday!
Alvaro Morata was signed by Conte in the summer transfer window before the 2017/18 season, for a fee of up to £70 million pounds! He was and is still Chelsea's club record signing.
Morata has really struggled to adapt to the Premier League.
In total, the Spaniard has made 45 appearances for Chelsea in the Premier League. He has scored 16 goals and has 6 assists in total to his name.
The only honour and award that Morata has won with Chelsea is the FA Cup last season under Conte.
Morata has already admitted that he would be open to a return to Italy or Spain in the Future.
News came out a few weeks ago that Barcelona have put Morata on a shortlist to replace Suarez. Barcelona Spanish star Jordi Alba has also came out and said that Morata would be welcome at Barcelona.
However more recent news that came out from Di Marzio yesterday is that Chelsea were pondering a move for Higuain. Higuain is highly admired by Maurizio Sarri. In the article there is suggestion of a possible swap deal involving Morata and Higuain!
So do i think that he will leave Chelsea soon?
Yes. Not sure when though. Personally i would sell him in January, and the Higuain for Morata swap deal could be a good deal for Chelsea in the short-term. I think long term they will target a striker like Icardi, but getting Higuain in January could be a good short-term signing for Chelsea.
Overall i think that these 4 players mentioned above will leave Chelsea in the next two transfer windows.
Do you agree/disagree with me? Comment below and tell me who you think Sarri would want to get rid out of the club in the next two transfer windows.
