Thoughts on AmberMarsh?

I love it as a ship. Not in an "it should be canon" way, but in a "you could never make a bad AU with them" way. There's just so many interesting ideas you can do with them. Such as:

A: "Rachel and Kate meet and are instantly drawn to each other. Kate is hesitantly intrigued by the almost mythical Rachel Amber, and Rachel is so used to hanging out with more intense personalities that Kate's gentle spirt is a surprisingly enduring change of pace.

B: "Rachel and Kate meet and want to study each other like bugs. Kate can't figure out how Rachel could be so unabashedly...Rachel, and Rachel can see a darkness in Kate that many much less observant people miss.

C: This is an angsty one so fair warning - "In the route where Kate jumps and Max sacrifices the bay, Rachel and Kate become spirts of the ruins."

D: "Poor Kate can't figure out why the girl roaming around campus in a nun uniform is so confused anytime she tries to talk to her about the Bible. Rachel has just been cast as nun as a theater production." 

Their dynamic could just be so fun because of how different they are, and that's enough to make a ship really good for me.

Last song: I'm going to give not one, but five, since I absolutely love both giving and receiving music recommendations: "Walking on Broken Glass" by Annie Lennox, "Everlasting Love" by Sandra, "We Want the Same Thing" by Belinda Carlislie, "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" by Starship, "Sleeping in My Car" by Roxette.

Favourite colour: Blue! With purple as close second.

Last movie: "Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City". It's a live action sort-of adaptation of Resident Evil 1 and 2 on Netflix. It was WAY better than I expected it to be. I recommend giving it a try.

Currently watching: "Scissor Seven". It's an animated series on Netflix. I sincerely recommend watching it. At first it's surprisingly humorous, but it quickly becomes surprisingly touching and heartfelt. At one point it even becomes straight-up vegan propaganda, by showing how awful the life of animals reared for meat is (one of the main characters is a chicken who is a hair salon owner and an occasional kung-fu master).

Sweet/spicy/savory: Let's just say that when I'm baking, I follow the philosophy of "there's no such thing as a too sweet cake". On the other hand, my family always tells me that I salt my food way too much (and I maintain they salt not enough). So I guess sweet and salty. But not at the same time! I loathe the flavour of salted caramel.

Last thing to google: "lighthouses in Seattle". I needed it for a fanfic I'm writing. Turns out there are 13, but they are all tiny, essentially house-sized.

Current obsession: Pricefield in particular, stories about star-crossed lovers and defying one's cruel fate in general.

Any thoughts on why Max pretty much jumps at Chloe should you have her accept the kiss dare? Me, I'd say it's hastiness born of nerves and/or thoughts along the lines of "girl, I've been wanting to kiss you for the last couple of days".

I think there's a few reasons!

I agree with you that Max was likely nervous, so she decided to go for it before she overthought it. I also think the fact that she watched Chloe die 200 times that week contributed to her "fuck it!" attitude. There's no time to dawdle when your girlfriend has the same lifespan as a mayfly.

I also like to think that Max lunged because Chloe was teasing and saying she never took risks. So when Chloe dared her to kiss her Max was like "I'll show YOU who doesn't take risks!" There's not a lot in the game to back this idea up. I just thought of it one day and thought it was funny.

Thoughts on the alternate universe Victoria Chase? I get that she seems nicer than the prime version of her, but I have to wonder how much of that is her identifying Max as a future photography great and trying to kiss up to her early on.

I think the way Victoria behaves in the alternative timeline is a confirmation of what Taylor says in the main timeline.

Taylor says that, despite her bossiness, Victoria is a good friend. She was the only one there for her when her Mom had surgery, and Taylor clearly appreciates it. At this point in the game, it's hard to imagine Victoria being a good friend because we've mostly seen her nasty interactions with Kate or her frenemy interactions with Max. I think that's why the alternative timeline expands her character to show that she's more than one thing. She's not just a bully; she's capable of being a good friend too.

I think alternative universe Victoria is a glimpse of the friend that Taylor knows. It makes sense Max would see this side of her on this timeline because the game states multiple times that the only reason Max and Victoria aren't friends is because of jealousy on both sides and Victoria's nasty attitude toward people like Kate.

The trait Victoria envies most about Max is how little she cares about what other people think. However, an argument could be made that if alt Max was trying to cozy up with the Vortex Club, she probably cared more about the school's social hierarchy than main Max did. That might mean that Victoria was less threatened by Max because she was conforming with the popular kids instead of doing her own thing. It's also implied that alt Max is mean (it's revealed through texts that she's thrown things at Alyssa) and she might not have cared as much, or at all, about how Victoria treated Kate.

So that's what I think is going on with alt Victoria. She's the friend Taylor has, but Max never really gets to see. Though the other interpretations that Victoria is sucking up to Max because she's higher on the hiercery are super interesting too!

Something I'm currently watching on YouTube has me wondering: what would happen if you hired Max, Chloe, Kate, Rachel and Victoria to do up your garden?

Max

Max is going to beg you to hire someone else because it's stressful enough to just keep Lisa alive. However, if you make her do it anyways, she's going to do such a good job that she'll surprise herself. She'll use of knowledge of aesthetics to make a picture perfect little garden, but please don't ask her to do upkeep.

Chloe

I don't believe in Chloe slander…BUT if she's doing this alone without Max or Rachel, then she's putting in minimal effort. She's going to put a bunch of potted plants outside and call it a garden. Or she'll plant like one thing, smoke a cigarette, and then throw the butts into the garden. Not even on purpose, just because she isn't really thinking because she doesn't really care.

Kate

Kate will make a very soft garden that will quickly become the staple of the home. She'll plant flowers that will attract bee's and fruits that will attract butterflies. She'll make a little patio area that's perfect for reading a good book and admiring the beauty of nature.

Rachel

Rachel will put in minimal effort but still come out with the best looking garden. She'll carefully pick large flowers that will fill up a lot of space, and use a patio set up to take up even more room. So her garden looks incredibly full of life even though there's only like two types of things.

Victoria

Hiring Victoria is a waste of money considering her plan is to hire someone to finish the garden for her. However, in good news, whoever she hires will be great at their job. Your garden will look like a magazine cover when it's all said and done.

Probably a bit random - I decided to give LiS True Colors another playthrough a couple of days ago - but what are your thoughts on Riley Lethe?

Me, I mostly just love how little she cares if you have Alex admit she beat her boyfriend's face into Mac and Cheese.

My main complaint about Riley is that she doesn't show up enough! She's such a great character, and I would have loved to have more interactions of her. I absolutely think her best moment is siding with Alex after she broke Mac's face because he totally had that coming and she knew it.

I also love how her and Gabe's friendship is portrayed! It's pretty rare for a man who's interested in women and a women who's interested in men to be strictly platonic friends with each other in fiction, but they give off such strong BFF vibes it's hard to see them as anything else! I wish we got to see more of how they interreacted together.

Thoughts on Samuel?

I know every time someone asks me about a side character in Life Is Strange, I say I love them, but I do love them all!

Samuel is such a fun character! He provides excellent commentary about the characters, and it's so interesting that a non-important character is the only one who knows what's going on. I'd love to know more about him. I headcanon that he has dreams that tell him things like Chloe had in Before The Storm…but that is just a headcanon!

I'm also so jealous of the way he talks. Using the phrase "a dragon made of diamonds" to describe Rachel made me want to have his brain. That's such an intense yet accurate description.

Assuming that William still dies and Joyce still moves on to David, but the Caulfields don't move away, how do you imagine Chloe handling things compared to canon?

I honestly think Chloe would be doing way better in this AU.

I think she would have finished school with Max in her life. She would have had a positive influence to keep her on track and there would have also been an incentive to go to class if she was going to see her best friend there. Plus, all it would take for Chloe to do her homework is Max giving her puppy dog eyes and asking for help.

David would also likely be less of an issue.

Joyce kicks David out the second Max has a big problem with him. While she doesn't care what her daughter has to say, Max's opinion does carry a lot of weight. I think the first time David lost his shit at Max would be when Joyce put him in his place and either demanded counseling or kicked him out. I get that this seems extreme, but all it takes is for Max to say he has files in the garage for Joyce to throw him out. She doesn't even check to make sure Max is telling the truth.

Even if I'm wrong and David stuck around, Chloe could still hang out at Max's place when he got to be too much. Since the Caulfield's seem like a normal family, this familiarity and stability would be good for her.

Plus Chloe wouldn't have to mourn William alone. In canon she's still stuck in her despair while Joyce is hooking up with David and acting like everyone should be moving on at the same speed as her. Therefore I think having Max around who misses him deeply would be really beatifical to her.

So that's three major issues that would be changed if Max could have stuck around. Overall I think Chloe's life still would have turned out much better then canon if she still had her best friend.

Imagine if, instead of David, Joyce ended up dating someone like Esteban after William's death.

I honestly think Chloe could have adapted to someone like Esteban really well in the long term.

Joyce moves on super fast from William and I don't think Chloe was ready for that yet. Especially because of how Joyce seems to push William's memory away so she can "move on" with her life and start dating. So I think Chloe would have some issues at first regardless of who she was dating.

But I think with time she could come around if her Step Father was a kind man who accepted her boundaries and didn't try to force himself into William's role. I could actually see them having a good relationship by the time Max comes back since Chloe does seem to yearn for stability in her life. Which a man like Esteban could give, unlike David who wants to change the structure of her life completly.

This ask made me wonder if Chloe would have actually latched onto a Father figure if he wasn't like David. Because her relationship with Joyce seems so unsteady, she may actually cling to a parental figure if they gave her time to come around to that idea.

Thoughts on Grahamscott? Asking because I seem to be seeing quite a bit of it on AO3.

I don't see the appeal of it, but I'm not offended by it either. It's just kind of a meh ship for me.

The only two things I ship Nathan with are therapy and jail.

Would love to see an LiS story that's just William, Esteban, Ryan Lucan and Duckie all chatting at a bar together. Perhaps with Jed as well.

Honestly that sounds great and wholesome.

The three dads would be bonding over their children and then Ryan and Duckie would be talking about happenings in the bar. Which makes Jed intercepts every once in awhile to set the record straight.

William and Esteban are probably in a good natured best Dad coemption. They're both bragging about their children and how proud they are of them, and telling embarrassing stories of course!
