Ooooh I like this~ I definitely have some thoughts...

Content: talk of heat, rut, breeding, reproduction, rough sex, and borderline fuck-or-die situations, I would say mpreg mention but Doe isn't a man so idk doepreg mention?

One very important thing to note is that Doe has no clue how human reproduction works, so whether or not you can get pregnant doesn't matter to him. He has no idea either way. He'll just try his best, regardless of if you can or not!

So here's the thing about Regular Guys like Doe. I like to think that they're hermaphroditic in the biological sense, meaning they're capable of being on both ends of reproduction

This differs from intersex humans, because we can't produce both male and female gametes regardless of our intersex variation. Whereas hermaphroditic species can, and are therefore capable of both impregnating and becoming pregnant themselves

So Doe would be able to both impregnate and become impregnated. Which could come with both manifestations of a reproductive cycle, a heat and a rut

In his heat, he would become submissive and desperate to be bred. His body would get hot and flushed, he'd give off pheromones, and he'd beg you to fuck him

Or, if you're not dominant enough for his tastes, he'll just be a dominant bottom. He'll climb on top and ride you (strap, cock, whatever you've got for him) until he's satisfied

He calms down, once that urge is taken care of. His heat goes away and he's fine for a while. But then... then there's the rut

He gets more dominant and aggressive, possessive over you and territorial. He's rougher with you, pinning you down and growling about how he needs to breed you

He's desperate to claim you as his and knock you up, his instincts are screaming at him to make sure you're pregnant with his child by the end of his rut

Both his heat and his rut are tough on him. His instincts drive him wild, and he feels like he's going to die if he doesn't get what he needs. He's absolutely insatiable for their duration

If he's not indulged, then he does get violently ill. Like too weak to get out of bed, feverish, delirious. It's scary to see Doe when he's not fucking/being fucked during his rut/heat

His absolute ideal is both of you being pregnant by the end of it all. But he'll be more than happy if just one of you is! As long as you can raise a family together (and maybe indulge his pregnancy kinks while you're at it) then he's happy!

the three acts of the ‘nero & sporus’ scene

i just rewatched the nero & sporus scene for like the hundredth time and i have thoughts

within itself, the scene has what are essentially three micro-acts:

i. “let’s game it out”

ii. “what do you know about nero and sporus?

iii. “let’s fight like chickens”

the first act is set in motion by tom’s goal of applying the thumb screws to greg.

tom visits greg apparently holding the power- he is in a position to control greg and get him to sign the jda. he does so by attempting to strategise with greg about how greg can land a gig at parks, as he sees himself as a mentor for greg with these things. 

however, it soon becomes apparent that greg has already figured out exactly what he needs to ask for:

TOM: So, I guess you've already gamed it.

tom is clearly taken aback by greg’s show of strategic prowess. tom sees his place in this dynamic as the boss/possessor of power. this gives him a sense of control over greg - his knowledge and experience positioned him as someone greg needed. in this way, greg simultaneously functioned as a display of tom’s authority, as well as a friend/confidant. 

greg does genuinely thank tom for his willingness to help him, but he doesn’t need tom’s advice anymore. tom is left questioning both his level of power and his place in greg’s life.

the second act shows tom starting to reckon with these notions, causing him to dictate a narrative that establishes his place in greg’s life.

tom immediately seeks to regain some semblance of power by harkening to a story that greg did not know:

TOM: Sporus was a young slave boy. He was Nero’s favourite.

for the purposes of this post, let’s focus not on the prophetic nature of the story, but rather what it says about tom’s perception of greg. firstly, the comparison to a “young slave boy” further re-establishes the power that tom feel like he should have over greg. 

more importantly, we know that tom sees himself as nero, and greg as sporus - so when he says that sporus was “nero’s favourite”, he is clearly telling greg that he is important in tom’s life. tom is covertly telling greg that they need each other, for any number of reasons. 

it explains why greg is absurdly accepting of tom’s confession:

TOM: I’d castrate you and marry you in a heartbeat.

greg is not weirded out by the objectively insane thing tom has just told him, because he understands what tom is saying - he gets the feeling that tom is making a promise to him. tom is being highly vulnerable in this moment, and greg can see that - it’s why he asks: 

GREG: Are you okay, Tom?

tom realises that greg has seen his moment of weakness, and feels somewhat threatened by it.

the final act shows a flashpoint of tom’s anxieties about prison and his personal & professional vulnerability.

tom switches the tone of the interaction from vaguely tender to completely insane in a matter of seconds, when he says:

TOM: See if you can wrestle me into the ground, Greg.

on the surface, this is tom being tom - obnoxious, strange, menacingly playful (note: this also does play into the imagery of ‘the mad emperor nero’, which speaks further to how tom perceives himself and greg and nero and sporus). however, this proposal actually acts as a mechanism through which tom’s true thoughts about his situation are revealed.

GREG: I don't wanna do it! 

TOM: (mockingly) "I don't wanna do it! I don't wanna do it! I don't wanna do it!" Neither do I, Greg

tom isn’t talking about play-fighting when he cries “neither do i, greg”. tom is talking about going to prison. tom is between a rock and a hard place. he volunteered himself to go to jail, but that doesn’t mean he wants it to happen.

and what of the alternative? losing any leverage he has with logan, and existing in a marriage that is draining him. tom can’t see a way out, and everything in his life is shifting beyond his control. he doesn’t want to lose what little power he feels he has left. 

so, when greg shuts him down, tom reverts to roy-style mockery to build some sort of shield around himself.

TOM: It was a joke, you idiot. You're so hard to riff with. I mean that is a big career obstacle right there for you.

tom attacks greg’s ‘lack of humour’ as a potential hurdle for his success. here he is trying to diminish greg in order to show him that he still has control- that greg still needs him to guide his career. 

in one last show of chaotic defiance of his situation, tom knocks over the coat stand in greg’s office and storms out.

this scene is a culmination of all the pressures that tom is experiencing in the middle of the third season. 

he thinks he is going to prison. his marriage is in a shambles. he thinks his only true confidant/friend/??? doesn’t need him anymore. he’s weaker than he has ever been, and he has no idea where he is going to end up. so, achieves three goals in this interaction. 

1. he brings greg back to waystar

2. he strengthens the bond between himself and greg

3. he tries to regain control over his situation

this scene reinforces tom’s arc across the season, including his strengthening relationship with greg, and his betrayal of shiv in the finale. it is clear that tom appears to be over-confident, but is ultimately vulnerable - a testament to the complexity and depth of his character.

What am I working on right now?

I realise I haven't really listed what I am doing and have been doing in terms of projects on Tumblr so far, so in case you're curious what I'm doing, here you go. With images and all this is gonna be quite lengthy, so have a look under the cut:

First of all, Job and Uni:

At the start of the month, the new uni semester begun, and I also got a job in programming! Uni courses are pretty chill this year, and I'm at the job two days a week. It's really nice so far, and it involves developing algorithms used for CAM and CNC-machines.

As a uni project I did..

A physics engine for Godot:

Godot is a game engine. As part of an uni course, two fellow students and I wrote the mathsy bulk of a physics engine for it. This includes stuff like collision handling and various joints (like hinge joints you'd use for a physics-based door etc.), but because of time constraints doesn't include collision detection, which is handled by Bullet. Outside of the planned curriculum, I also derived the equations for and implemented rope joints, which simulate, well, ropes.

And currently, outside of uni, I still want to work on the engine by implementing..

Portals:

Yea I want to implement portals using the custom physics engine we built. But not just portals as Valve did them, that would be too easy. I want them to be able to move and interact with other objects while remaining physically accurate (or, as physically accurate as they can be considering they're portals). The current state of things:

The dream is to be able to build gorgeous architecture, like, I'm thinking buildings resting on top of pillars that are always moving. If I can get this to work I really ought to discuss the vision with some artists and creative folk in general, because I feel like there's so much unexplored creativity in art with portals. But yeah, there's still a lot of very intimidating maths/physics until I get there.

As for other private/free-time projects..

SSBToni:

SSBToni is probably my most ambitious project yet. Toni is a Discord bot for the competitive Super Smash Bros. community (currently in 1.9k servers wowee). Her main selling point is the ability to show frame data and hitbox gifs, but she can also do some other stuff like guide you through a full match of Smash Bros. according to a range of competitive rulesets, from rock-paper-scissors through stage bans all the way to game reporting. She's written in Java with JDA, and her code is hosted here.

I want to do ranked matchmaking and Smash profile images later on, so I have to do some web backend work. The bulk of that is private still, but some of that spun off into separate projects which are..

The Glicko-2 rating system is great, but it has some issues if you want to use it for real-time ratings/rankings. This Rust library aims to solve these issues to allow for good real-time rankings that are still accurate to the Glicko-2 system. I wrote about how I achieve that here, and the code is hosted here. Note that I do want to change some stuff still which I don't mention in the article I wrote, and in the current form it is probably not production-ready.

cache-compute:

In all honesty, maybe my proudest public thing yet, and it's a single-file ~500 line Rust crate. Based on this blogpost by fasterthanlime, the library makes caching for async stuff much easier, which is gonna be extremely useful in web backend stuff. If a resource isn't available locally (cached), you might have to spend some time making a request to get it from elsewhere to cache it. This library makes sure you only make that request once when you need it, and sorts everything out so that everyone waiting on the resource gets a copy the moment it arrives.

Part of why I'm so proud of this is that, for one, I consider the core finished and very much usable, and secondly, because I wrote so many and such long and exhaustive tests for it, just to hopefully be able to catch any weirdness that comes up. Because writing this kind of concurrent code is hard.

And that's it for projects I would want to show off and write about.

There are of course always ideas in my idea list (currently four or five good ones I'm not working on), maybe I'll post about those too sometime. If you're curious or starved for ideas feel free to ask about them too, I don't think I'll be able to do all of them and the list is only growing larger.

so you get a song and a music video that very clearly shows "the catholic church is full of hypocrisy, corruption and exploitation" and someone's takeaway will still be

that the current ghost frontman oc, whose pov the song isn't even from, is now canonically bisexual (even tho he's been all touchy feely with one of the guitarists during live shows since 2018) xd if i've ever seen a chronically online fandom, it's this one

20. part of canon you found tedious or boring back to witcher, i don't think i ever went 'this is such a slog' with the books... i disliked all the gross stuff in ciri's arc for obvious reasons (sapkowski meet me in a lidl parking lot)... but if i had to call anything tedious, it'd maybe be the later half of blood of elves? i don't remember much from it, just yennefer being mean to ciri for no reason and all the magic talk that got misinterpreted by twn. in games, any quest with triss or yen is bound to be tiresome, poorly written and annoying ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Some of my headcanons on JDA characters and fragrances that would suit them . Please, do not consider it an advertising or something – I’m just a perfumaniac making headcanons for one of my favourite games…

Jeanne – Olympéa by Paco Rabanne

Pure, sacred and shining, suitable for a goddess – and, as we remember, Jeanne’s strongest attacks also have the word ‘Goddess’ in their names. Fits our main heroine pretty well, don’t you think?

 Liane – Dolce by Dolce&Gabbana

Tender, exquisite and bashful at the same time – good pick for the most (IMO) well-written character in the game.

 Roger – Fahrenheit by Dior

The colors of the bottle say it all. As for the scent itself – I’ not an expert in male fragrances, but this one stroke me as quite unusual, something that you can identify and remember.

 Gilles – Lys Fume by Tom Ford

This was the toughest pick by far and also the only fragrance I’m not really familiar with. But from what I heard about it, I get the feeling it would fit Gilles well, because it’s unisex (I think Gilles would like either something unisex or a REALLY unusual male fragrance), has a lily scent (Gilles has a lily in his family crest and is drawn with a lily flower on one of the official arts, remember?) and is also described as cold, misty and gothic. Perfection!

 Rose – Trésor Midnight Rose by Lancôme

Mysterious and sensual, but playful at the same time – just the way I see her (I do like to think Rose has a childish side to her – for example, she reacts with an excited ‘weeee!’ when you go for a boat ride, I always found that cute ^^).

 Beatrix – Aura by Mugler

Mystic and inhuman – reminds me of ancient forests and enigmatic creatures like elves. It fits so well that I even remember someone making a drawing of Beatrix holding this magical bottle…😉 Anyway that’s all for today thanks for coming to my Ted talk

He's thrilled when he finds out he can use it to contact you! That he doesn't have to show up at your job whenever he misses you! Not that he'll stop doing that, of course...

But he'll send you pictures! Most of them are... well, indescribable. Quite literally, you can't decipher what they're meant to be

It's not that the pictures are blurry, they just don't make sense. Like they were made by a poorly trained AI rather than taken by Doe

Sometimes you can sort of get what they are from the messages he sends with them, but most of the time they're just sent with a heart

He'll send you every little update about his day! You'll know where he is and what he's doing at all times

He calls you every ten minutes or so just to hear your voice. He doesn't know how to start or end conversations, so he'll just tell you he loves and misses you and then hang up

1. charles is the hotshot neurotic highly strung all-star goalie who is... the best, but is a tightly wound asshole and gets traded from boston to a totally fictional kansas city team ('oh my god. that's in kansas!' 'actually no, dear brother, it's in missouri')

(1a. honoria is also a damn good goalie herself and finds it fucking hilarious, just let me have this)

2. enter fictional kansas city nhl team captain and elite centre hawkeye pierce who is no slouch himself and is good on the ice as he is outspoken on twitter. on hand he's finally gotten rid of the locker room cancer that is frank burns but in return he's going to suffer the most insufferable and opinionated oaf this side of the toronto sports media.

3. it is, of course, a bumpy start. this team is continually making the playoffs every season but has never made it past the third round. coached by four-time olympian margaret houlihan (daughter of none OTHER than al 'howitzer' houlihan himself), it's a plucky and popular team with a mix of youth and experience and seems destined for greater things, once all the pieces fit together. and this season they might've just found that missing one.

4. and yeah there are personality clashes, but eventually it *clicks*. and

5. no one's surprised the team goes on a tear after the all-star break and seem unstoppable. all four lines are rolling, the power play is on *fire* and after a rough start, the goalie is a brick *wall*. (it's also not surprising that the top tag in the hockey rpf category on ao3 is hawkeye and his right winger bj, a fact that both hawk and bj's wife find fucking hysterical). but what *is* surprising is the very unlikely uhhhh friendship between captain and goalie, a relationship that was once fraught with tension and call out posts. though it is not such a great surprise if anyone was paying attention to the late night bull session on road trips that go later than usual and the little glances and the hugs that last a little longer than normal and the fact charles now has a stupidly popular instagram dedicated to his dog bruno.

so perhaps that there's something there that wasn't there before <3

(and this definitely was their year: going on to the scf and winning it in game 6 over the islanders with a miracle play in overtime from the wildly beloved rookie from toledo)
