ASIA WEEK NY-GIUSEPPE PIVA JAPANESE ART-24 E. 80thSt (at Adam Williams Fine Art). <Japanese Art and Antiques> 1. This 19th C. Russet iron 23.5cm fierce hawk is a JIZAI OKIMONO, a realistically shaped figure of an animal with moving articulated bodies and limbs. Hawks served as “metaphors for martial training and the warrior spirit since the Muromachi period. Samurai found in the brave and daring nature of these birds, a congenial expression of their ideals.” 2. An original SAMURAI SUIT OF ARMOR of the Mid-Edo period, Kaga school, is complete with its red storage box; gold painting, silver drops, leather, iron, complex lacing, skirting, hand protection, and a tall helmet complete with stylized horns. The Japanese associate red with strength and passion, black with mystery/ night/ anger/ an evil hearted person, the brown leather speaks of earthiness and protection, blue connotes fidelity, and green represents vitality/ energy/ and eternity, silver is precision and masculinity, and gold symbolizes wealth and prestige. @asiaweekny #japaneseart #japaneseantiques #japanesearmor #jizaiokimono #ironhawk #midedoperiod #japanesewarrior #samurai #samuraisuit #japanesecolors https://www.instagram.com/p/CbNY67pLxIk/?utm_medium=tumblr

#Artist talk and an #exhibition of work by @haruomitsuta at the @daiwafoundation #London He is the only living artist who makes contemporary Jizai Okimono (“articulated animals”) – flexible animal figures made from metal pieces, which can replicate the movements of the original animals. Inspired by traditional figures, Mitsuta creates a new kind of Jizai Okimono, based on the concept of 金属による命の再現 (Reproduction of life with metal). #art #culture #jizaiokimono (at Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation) https://www.instagram.com/jms_uk/p/BxSvpWRpky-/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=17va3qbl1hkam
