“John Randolph of Roanoke, traveling in England and Ireland with his black manservant Johnny, wrote to a friend back home: ‘Much as I was prepared to see misery in the south of Ireland, I was utterly shocked at the condition of the poor peasantry between Limerick and Dublin. Why sir, John never felt so proud of being a Virginia slave. He looked with horror upon the mud hovels and miserable food of the white slaves, and I had no fear of his running away.”

"Among the strange notions which have been broached since I have been on the political theatre, there is one which has lately seized the minds of men: that all things must be done for them by the Government, and that they are to do nothing for themselves." John Randolph of Roanoke, 1829

American history is cool and all, but I wish I could find something on the construction of popular American history -- how do schools choose what gets taught? There's probably plenty of this on race relations, Indian conflicts, the 20th century generally, the North and the South etc., but it's all more heat to light than I'd like, so I'm more interested in early American history since the Constitution
I remember the whiskey rebellion, the Jay treaty, the Quasi-War, the XYZ affair, the Alien and Sedition Acts, the Barbary Wars, and the Louisiana Purchase. Then it's War of 1812, maybe the expeditions of Jackson in the Floridas, the Monroe Doctrine and then you get the Compromise of 1820 and it's all just prelude to Civil War and Manifest Destiny.
I don't remember Governor Harrison in the Northwest Territories, the treason trial of Aaron Burr (maybe he showed up in the Compromise of 1800?), the economic plans of Hamilton, Randolph of Roanoke, the choosing of DC as the capital, John Marshall (except for Marbury), the German-Pennsylvanian insurrection, or Albert Gallatin, but I also didn't take APUSH.

John Randolph of Roanoke & the Formation of a Southern Conservatism
“One of the great issues of American political history is whether an authentic American conservatism exists. This is a crucial question for Southerners, as the South is historically viewed as the most conservative of the regions of the United States.”

Some old doodles of Jackson I found in my sketch book...
The third one is Jackson with Burr. John Randolph is in the corner crying because Jackson and Burr are having fun together😅
The fourth is Polk and Jackson.
The last two are just fever, Andy just has a fever...😳
I already posted these on my Twitter, but I restricted it since I felt kinda embarrassed... But I feel safe on this platform so I'm posting it now
