are you normal or did you feel melancholy when you realized that the historical figures you think of as the "young generation" due to the time period you engage with, were one day the old ones? because i saw art of lafayette and washington's aides de camp right above art on henry clay's generation and it hit me like a sucker punch.

Since we're both as unwell about him as we are I consider you to be someone who knows a fair amount and what do you genuinely think the real James Fitzjames would feel if he saw the Terror's depiction of him? (As in watching the whole show)

HUH good question. first of all i think he'd be a little discombobulated by the very experience of watching a tv show but personally i choose to believe he'd at least be happy he was made into one of the main characters?? and that so many cool and sexy insane people are obsessed with him now <3

having said that. as much as i love show!fitzjames they did nerf him down A LOT. they robbed him of the joyous whimsy that was such a characteristic trait of the real jokester supreme fitzjames (show!fitzjames also has little to no relationship with his irl lieutenant buddies which. sad.)

we also know now that. most probably. he was actually fully english so i can only imagine he'd be Not Pleased about the cairn scene to say it lightly lmao imagine you and your adoptive family making significant efforts throughout your whole life to disguise the fact of your illegitimate birth and then 150 years later some people make a high rating show where they babygirlify you not only spill your secret to the millions of people watching (or secrets, plural, and make you call yourself a fake as a cherry on top lol) but they also get it wrong and make it Even Worse (from a victorian englishman's perspective) like stop guys he's already dead lmfao

having said that. he would have loved the britannia costume and the your nails are a terror line. i know he would.

to people who are into rpf conspiracies i cannot recommend enough doing this for famous people who died centuries ago instead of living people. me and my friends were doing this in lit crit class in uni for wordsworth and coleridge (iykyk). our poor professor was trying to teach us 19th century lit theory and we were Making Connections. our theory was that there was something gay going on but ultimately coleridge was more into wordsworth than the other way around. at the end of the course even our professor was like yeah plausible. it was fun! and most importantly harmless. and it didn't involve developing very unhealthy parasocial relationships lol

Pure and beautiful and also probably true because gay people in history were always writing poetry @ each other. And tbh while I don’t personally want to indulge in it I have no problem with people creating elaborate narratives for modern day people either as long as it doesn’t turn into this obsessive invasive circus where people are not only presenting this stuff as fact but also encouraging others to engage in conspiratorial thinking about their partners

Montholon has sent them all to the devil verbally), drinks his tea as a bee bumbles past them towards its hive at the back of the garden.

Napoleon has not said a word since Wellesley told him: I’ve received something you might have some views on. That statue by Canova of you as Mars the Peacemaker.

Wellesley sets his cup aside, pursing lips. ‘I don’t know what you wish me to say.’

Napoleon lifts an eyebrow. They are both in clothes of countryside gentlemen at leisure—though Napoleon is in blues and Wellesley is in green and brown. He had been out riding before coming to see the Imperial household.

‘Well?’ the cursed man prompts. ‘Don’t sulk at me—’

‘I am hardly sulking, Wellesley. I’m thinking.’

‘It was a gift from the Prince Regent.’

‘Christ’s blood, of course it was.’

‘Well I would hardly choose it myself,’ Wellesley counters. ‘Give me some sense of decorum and taste.’

Which could mean anything. Napoleon pours himself a second coffee. This is how they take tea in the garden whenever Wellesley comes up from Town: a pot of coffee, a pot of tea, they war over the cured fruits and soft bread. Afterwards, they might take a walk or go for a ride. Drive Lowe up the wall with how fast and loose they are with the Rules. Though, since the Prince of Waterloo (sneered with greatest resentment when Napoleon thinks on the nick-name) is present, Napoleon’s gaoler can hardly complain.

But today all of that is off.

These men are very normal about everything, including each other! Napoleon calls Arthur by his surname not at all out of a desire to be the most obnoxious person in England! He’s not petty nor passive aggresive!
