David as Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing (the first time he did it, that is!)
David Tennant fans are aware of 2011's brilliant Much Ado About Nothing, in which DT starred as Benedick, alongside Catherine Tate as Beatrice. Filmed at the Wyndham's Theatre in London and directed by Josie Rourke, the production was recorded and offered on Digital Theatre.
But did you know David had played Benedick before?
Yep - he sure has!
It was in 2001, a full decade before his production with Catherine.
Beginning in 1999, BBC Radio 3 launched Shakespeare For The Millennium, an ambitious project to dramatize seventeen Shakespeare productions in four years.
The project was done in collaboration with BBC Worldwide, which emphasized it wanted to take a contemporary, innovative approach to the Bard. It launched on 12 September 1999 with a Shakespeare discussion panel, and a new production of Hamlet -- starring none other than Michael Sheen as the Dane!

On 23 September 2001, BBC Radio 3 broadcast a new production of Much Ado About Nothing as the Sunday Play, with David in the lead role as Benedick and Samantha Spiro as Beatrice. Adapted by Sally Avens, it featured an introduction (as had all the previous productions in the Shakespeare For The Millennium series) by Richard Eyre, the former Director of the Royal National Theatre.
The production also starred a few other recognizable names. There was Chiwetel Ejiofor as Claudio, Emilia Fox as Hero, David Swift as Leonato, Julian Rhind-Tutt as Don John, and David Haig as Dogberry.
All original music was composed and performed by Simon Oakes and Adam Wolters.

Here's a review of the prodcuction!

Much Ado About Nothing was commercially released by BBC Worldwide as part of the BBC Radio collection series in 2001.
The sleeve notes of cassettes and CDs of the production include a scene-by-scene synopsis, a full character analysis, and an essay on interpretation from the director Sally Avens.

Almost four years later, in November 2005, BBC One broadcast a television series called ShakespeaRe-Told, a set of four adaptations of Shakespeare's plays. Each play was adapted by a different writer, and all were relocated to the present day.
The first to be broadcast - on 7 November 2005 - was a modern-day version of Much Ado About Nothing starring Sarah Parrish and Damien Lewis...and Billie Piper and Nina Sosanya and Olivia Colman!
You can watch it here:

Six days after this television broadcast - on 13 November 2005 at 7:15 pm - BBC Radio 3 re-broadcast the audio version starring David and Samantha in its 'Drama On 3' slot.

Fast forward to August 2020.
The BBC released a set of four BBC Radio Shakespeare collections: Histories, Comedies, Tragedies, and Roman Plays. Much Ado About Nothing was included in the collection of Comedies, and became available as an Audible digital download.

If you want to listen, you can find this collection a lot of places. It might be at your local library or on Overdrive, on Google Play, or as an Amazon Audible book.

Updated stream list
I've been getting a lot of questions/requests regarding possible streams and thought it might be helpful to catalog everything we've watched so far! I'll keep it pinned and updated moving forward.
Longtime crowd favorites (streamed at least three times) are marked with a single asterisk.
Why isn’t [specific actor/video] on this list?
The video is currently marked not for trade.
We haven’t gotten to it yet.
The footage does not exist or is too incomplete.
It isn't on a platform I can stream it from.
There's something particularly off-putting about the video or actor.
How can I get a copy of a video listed here?
There's a list of publicly available bootlegs here, and there are many other adaptations on the Phantom Retrospective channel. Otherwise, contact @glassprism (or another trader) for a possible trade, or check her website for info on which master(s) to contact.
For general stream info, please see the Saturday Streams FAQ.
On to the list!

Description: **The riveting memoir of a Vietnam War helicopter pilot. “When you step into a Huey with Tom Johnson, you’re in for the real thing. No one has previously captured the Vietnam helicopter experience with such gripping authority.”—Robert F. Dorr, author of Chopper   **   From June 1967 to June 1968, Tom Johnson accumulated an astonishing 1,600 flying hours piloting the UH-1 “Iroquois”—better known as the “Huey”—as part of the famous First Air Cavalry Division. His battalion was one of the most decorated units of the Vietnam War, and helped redefine modern warfare. Johnson’s riveting memoir takes us into key battles and rescue missions, including those for Hue and Khe Sanh. In harrowing detail, he tells of being shot down in the battle of A Shau Valley, of surviving enemy attacks during the Tet Offensive, and of a death-defying nighttime river rescue, in which only the bare feet of soldiers hanging off the Huey’s skids kept the helicopter from plunging under water. From dangerous missions to narrow escapes, Johnson’s memoir vividly captures the adrenaline rush and the horror of war, and takes you on a ride you’ll never forget.

Part II, Day 27
Tumblr media
A list of all 23 jobs I’ve held so far:
1. Mowing grass for the farmer John Wolters, who often paid me in 1930s-era silver certificates.
2. Detasseling and de-roguing corn for Oetting's Detasseling. Rural kid summer job, hot and tiresome.
3. Clean-up guy at Orly's Meat Market, Locker, and Deli. I cleaned the whole bloody place.
4. Sales representative at Dumont Telemarketing. Yes, I was a telemarketer, and I’m sorry.
5. Hired hand at Schmadeke's Feed Mill, one of the grain elevators in my rural Iowa hometown. So much dust.
6. Soldier in the Iowa National Guard, where I had the opportunity to work security for the circus and qualify as an expert on the grenade launcher. (Not at the same time, though.)
7. Pizza technician at Pizza Hut, where I made pizzas. Curious to know how much free root beer I drank there.
8. Summer park technician at Butler County Conservation. For two summers I got to help keep the parks trimmed and tidy.
9. Trash man at Iowa State University. Picked up trash around my dorm, and it was trashy.
10. Food service dishwasher at the University of Northern Iowa. No. Just no.
11. Weekend on-air talent and assistant music director at KUNI-FM, a public radio station. Still one of my favorite jobs ever.
12. Retailer and vinyl record specialist at Co-Op Records. The discount was large and the subsequent paychecks were small.
13. Content manager at Stayhealthy dot com, where I participated in the Dotcom boom and garnered my first tech layoff.
14. Assistant manager at the Sam Goody music store in a mall, almost the exact opposite of the cool indie record store above.
15. Receptionist at Public Radio International. Get a foot in the door, they say. I did, and it really kicked things off.
16. Client Relations Manager at Public Radio International. I sold programs and an early SaaS CMS to stations.
17. Senior Manager, Interactive Content and Marketing. Got to work with Ira Glass, Bob Edwards, and the BBC. Met Slash in an elevator.
18. Content Strategist at Brain Traffic. Got to work with THE Kristina Halvorson, which was fantastic.
19. Sr. Manager, Digital Content Strategy at Ameriprise Financial. The on-page disclosures were really something: 4,000+ words on one!
20. Vice President of Web Content Strategy at Weber Shandwick. Agency life, all of the clients, and amazing bosses.

Twins Rally In 9th To Beat Rays!
Twins 4 Rays 2 W-Rodriguez (1-0) L-Gross (0-1) SV-St. John (1)
The Tampa Bay Rays were forced to move their Spring Training site to Tropicana Field this year due to Hurricane Ian and the damage to their Port Charlotte facility. Today, the Twins made the trip up to St. Petersburg to play the Rays. The Twins opened the scoring in the third inning when Tyler White and Ryan LaMarre drew walks. Jose Miranda delivered a two-out run-scoring single to left and the Twins had a one-run lead after three innings of play. The Rays would rally in the fourth with a Harold Ramirez lead-off single. Charlie Culberson reached on an infield single and Rene Pinto lined an RBI single to right to even the game at one apiece. Pitching dominated for a good portion of the day, but the Rays had something to say in the seventh. Ronny Simon led-off the inning with a walk, stole second base, and advanced to third on a throwing error by Chance Sisco. Roberto Alvarez hit a sacrifice fly to left to put Tampa Bay up by a run. The Twins would have some late game magic and it all started with a Noah Miller lead-off single in the ninth. He stole second base and reached third on a groundball. DaShawn Keirsey then belted a pitch high off the right field wall. The initial call was a home run, but it was determined that the ball went back into the field of play for a double. Keirsey would steal third base and scored athe bad throw by Roberto Alvarez. Aaron Sabato kept the inning alive with a walk then stole second base. He reached third on a wild pitch and Roberto Alvarez had another bad throw. He scored on the play and the Twins led 4-2. Locke St. John had a 1-2-3 ninth and the Twins stole a game from the Rays today.
-Final Thoughts- Kenta Maeda went a little deeper in his second spring start. He threw two scoreless innings and allowed two hits with two strikeouts. Apparently the Trop was so quiet that every hitter knew what pitch was coming from Kenta. Tony Wolters had an earpiece in saying the signs. Randy Dobnak gave up a run on four hits with a strikeout over two innings. Griffin Jax fanned two in a perfect fifth, Oliver Ortega had a 1-2-3 sixth, and Cody Laweryson gave up a run in the seventh. Dereck Rodriguez had a clean eighth and Locke St. John picked up the save with a perfect ninth. The Twins scattered three hits and went 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position. They left six men on base. Tomorrow, James Paxton will face Sonny Gray as the Twins return home to play the Red Sox at Hammond Stadium. Gilberto Celestino has ruptured the UCL in his left thumb and will miss 6-8 weeks to start the season.
