afro-latino-japanese gumi hcs
by me, cadey <3
first off, my boy was born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico to Alondra Milena Carrasquilla and Toji Zen’in
his parents didn’t marry until he was 2 so he got to see a big puertorriqueño wedding wit all his family members on his mom’s side coming from loíza to attend
they would alternate between Bayamón y Loíza to see family n stuff
it’s just alondra, toji, gumi and tsumiki
until one day after gumi had turned 6, alondra suddenly got sick and had to go to San Juan for her treatment, leaving gumi n tsumiki with their grandmother, Annalise en Loíza
while they waited for their mom to get better, gumi was being taught spanish in school n tsumiki was goin on to secondary school
then a year later, alondra passed away from cancer complications
but gumi and tsumiki didn’t know until almost 5 months later, when toji came to Loíza to tell them.
they were distraught, especially gumi but then toji started talkin to their grandmother about moving them wit him to tokyo
of course, annalisse fought against it, saying that first, there had to be a funeral for alondra then they could talk
2 months later, in august, they held a big funeral for alondra, all the family from across the island came to see her one last time.
everyone cries that day, everyone.
only a month later, toji was ready to move back to tokyo wit gumi and tsumiki in tow, they said goodbye a sus abuelos y primos y tíos, todo el mundo dice el adiós final
so, they got on a plane with the money toji had saved up to Tokyo the next day. it wasn’t too much of a shock since both gumi n tsumiki learned Japanese alongside Spanish
but it hit gumi the hardest since he was the only Puerto Rican kid in his classes, it made him feel awkward
so eventually, as time went on, gumi learned to not be as loud as he would be in Puerto Rico, not to speak Spanish wit anyone but his family n to try to be as Japanese as possible
then comes time for him to graduate elementary, except toji goes out for a bounty one night and never returns, leaving tsumiki n gumi home alone
gumi thinks about callin their uncle, shiu and he does, telling him how toji went out n never came back
shiu came over as quick as possible to see them outside the house, crying.
gumi kept askin “qué pasó a nuestro papá?” “¿te dije, qué pasó?”
shiu just frowned and put it simply, “your father was killed.”
gumi and tsumiki looked at each other, in the span of 2 years, they had become orphans.
shiu offered to take care of them, help them until tsumiki was old enough to take care of gumi
but he never let them know exactly who killed toji
now he’s time for gumi to start kōkō, high school but he wouldn’t be going to a normal high school, he’d be going to a school called jujustu high
shiu told him that summer that he would be attending since he saw his potential n that his dad would’ve wanted him to go to the school
now he is here, expect he needs to get another student, yuuji idatori is his name.
he’s just a regular kid that swallowed a finger of a special grade curse, what would go wrong?
maybe him being spared and sent to go to jujustu high, perhaps
but gumi didn’t show too much emotion, that’s the Japanese way, only show what you want people to see, you have an image to uphold
but wit yuuji, he couldn’t help but imagine a life like back home, in Puerto Rico with all his family and friends
he wondered maybe being friends wit yuuji wouldn’t be so bad, I mean he will be his classmate soon
and they eventually become friends towards the start of the school year wit a new student joining the group, kugasaki nobara.
they all become fast friends as the only three first years of jujustu high but as they get there, gumi realizes that his teacher will be the gojo satoru, the strongest jujustu sorcerer

José should have been used more as a villain after the v Phantom Lord arc.
Don't get me wrong, I love that arc. I just want to see him again. I want to get into Juvia and Gajeel's past, maybe more of the element four. Thank goodness for fanfiction at least
