oh gosh thats gonna be a lot. im gonna be excluding anything that would make this blog more personal or less tame than i want it to be but you really arent missing much there

well. first and foremost UNFORTUNATELY its a hc that im a joyce kelly truther. shes so unbelievably transfem to me at this point its hard to see her as much else. genuinely forget its not canon sometimes. oops

i also must say all of @pariskim's joyceverse tag is canon in my mind and i really recommend you go through it even if you dont see joyce the same way i do, genuinely some of my favorite fan content to consume period. yes i am also sending you over there to become a joyce truther. go.

honestly if mac and dennis could be responsible pet owners (theyll never be.) i think theyd LOVE having a snake. i know theyd go for a ball python because theyre more stereotypically "snake" than some other pet trade species, but frankly i think theyd do best with a hognose. theyre pretty social (with humans. dont keep hognoses together in a tank) idiots with huge attitude and they look god damn adorable. hognoses would also be great for them because they tend to be more food motivated! its also good for snakes to just take them out and like. set them on your bed n just chill or talk with em for an hour or so. thatd be great for mac.

i personally think that mac will only hook up with you as a fellow man if you a) can pass as older than him or b) look like dennis. yeag i think he, consciously or not, goes for people that have similar traits to dennis, physically or personality wise. if dennis let himself accept that he cares a bit too much about who mac is dating, that little fact would single-handedly make macdennis canon. dennis would tell mac to just date him if he wanted to date him so badly

not entirely a headcanon but i imagine almost all of the gang besides maybe frank has methods for getting dennis to regulate his diet a bit more instead of eating like 1 meal a day. i think mac can get dennis to eat or drink just about anything by just giving it to him in conversation. he'll just let dennis talk his ear off and continually hand him chips or fruit or even drinks or nearly any drug at all. having a small bite or drink or hit during conversation is such a reinforced habit that its natural to the both of them now.

i think dee does it by purposefully playing into her status of being "below" dennis. she'll complain about being too weak to open a peanut shell or something and he'll snatch it and do it to prove hes better and out of habit maybe has a little bite. though i imagine if theyre inebriated in any way its as easy as genuinely just feeding it to him. dennis will never admit it, because he hates his sister, but he trusts her.

joyce i think can get dennis to eat just by getting alone with him. she provides a bubble of decompression and a lack of worry for him. its also insanely easy for her to just offer dennis a huff of whatever inhalant shes been having fun with that day and i imagine that makes things easier as well

i think you could pretty easily get mac into nerd shit. just have some pretty boy be a little nerdy. get him to watch star trek itd be life changing for him even if i think a good amount of it would fly over his head at times. ttrpgs and roleplaying in general i think would be big for him

ok ill bite. Who is joyce

okay so. hi. hi. hi. im normal (the deceiving liar). joyce is what i call charlie kelly, from its always sunny. there has been years an years of fam speculation on her being trans in the fandom though often transmasc (which is perfectly fine hc! just not mine clearly). and in 2018, we got the episode s13e6 the gang solves the bathroom problem. its joking around about cis peoples comfortability with trans people in bathrooms and what counts as a minority vs the majority etc etc. Its a very funny episode and i really enjoyed it, but it felt like parts were a little stilted or cut and it turns out in fact, they were!

in the episode charlie is caught using the womens bathroom, wearing what is basically full drag but she vehemently denies it being crossdressing, saying its normal (its not), or that its just for herself. and basically canonizes that when feeling safe or alone, in a space like the bathroom (or in episode specifically the bathroom) she will dress entirely like a woman and in this space to be herself wants to be seen As a woman. and in canon we get this exchange, which was always interesting to me

to which dennis says, youre a man of course. but it did not, in fact say this in the original cut! in fact,

and upon further inspection not only was this scene cut, but in the original script they she hered charlie for almost the entire episode, not only that. but she had a name. picked for herself, if she was seen by someone else as a woman. a preferred name. if you would even.

so i. yeah! yeah. i call her joyce. because im crazy. and i fully understand why they didn't canonize a trans character in the main cast of a show like sunny. but everyday i mourn the world where we got Her ^

thinking about a joyce centric episode in my mind world where its post coming out and the twins are both trying really hard to be supportive and it turns competitive of who can be a better friend and do things with her first, like the first person to paint her nails, watch chick flicks together etc erc. and joyce is like dennis has been really nice recently its scary as fuck. and then at the end of the ep they reveal the motives of the like game of it all and dee is like Well who did the things with you first!!! whos the better friend! and joyce is like well mac. he did my makeup and stuff when we were like 10 trying to look cool sorry guys :-/ and mac who was off doing something freakish with frank turns and is like aww 😊 and dennis starts slapping him

how early on do you think joyces sisters were harassing them for being fags? how do you think they coped? what about school stuff? when does mac learn shame about loving his best friend so much. how does it affect joyce immediately+long term?

you'll never guess what I've been thinking about crazily for the last week. Thank you so much for letting me talk about this. Putting this under readmore because it got. Ridiculously long. Im so sorry

if i think too hard about early highschool years joyce i get so sad and insane. theres just something so tragic about that space in between childhood and the loss of that innocence.

the kelly sisters are probably around half the age of joyce so i think their maturity hitting right as joyce was going into highschool was kind of the perfect storm in a really awful way. i dont think they were ever close with joyce, and its not like they had family dinners or anything but i dont think they were always quite so malicious? i think they messed with her but weren't quite so. much. before their tween/teenager years, mostly just leaving her out of activities and such.

i think middle school was Bad for joymac. realllll bad. it's always the worst for everyone but it's sort of that age in 7-8th grade when you're not supposed to be that close to people you arent dating, and romance becomes important. i think for a long time mac still protected her and stuck hip to hip with her, and she never really cared about what people thought but she still could tell people judged them and didnt like it, but didnt fully internalize it like mac did.

going into highschool i think was a turning point for their friendship, a kind of dynamic switch as mac tries to add being Cool into his personality separating himself from her in that way. he's hitting that point where he's really free falling into his internalized homophobia and it's affecting his relationships. he's still close and touchy and dependent with her in private but its much harder for him to do in public, which I'd think makes her pull away in turn because that hurts y'know? people being ashamed to be her friend when she's already dealing with straight up bullying in school just feels like punching down when she's already stuck.

dennis joining their friend group is Awkward at first. its weird. i think he first meets them awkwardly trying to get weed or running into them somehow, and slowly weaves his way into their lives and it's hard for all of them in different ways? mac is overjoyed theres a cooler person in their friend group but is still closed off in a way that kind of pisses dennis off, but joyce is so open and non judgemental that dennis doesnt know what to Do with it. i think undeniably joyce is jealous as hell because in his attempt to be badass he just switches his codependency from joyce to dennis and doesn't recognize it. slowly the three of them become less of joymac or macden and just the gang, ronnie the rat dirtgrug and the golden god smoking awful weed under the bleachers but it takes work to get there. where joymac are soulmates in some way whether they want to or not, macden are connected in some fucked up way with secret whispers and linked fingers in the dark, and joyden are purposeful connection - putting effort into being kind to one another in a way neither of them normally do.

i think joyce doesn't know what to do with herself in highschool, kind of floating aimlessly during the day, eating whatever spider adriano hands her, waiting til the sun sets to hold macs hand and have him help with the homework she can't figure out how to read. in that space i think she latches onto the reynolds twins in a weird way none of them know exactly what to do with. dee and him chat awkwardly while macden are in the room alone talking in hushed tones and blushing, they sit together a kind of weird girls connection neither of them ever particularly wanted, but a connection both of them needed if that makes sense? they arent Best Friends like the others but they have some sort of understanding of their mutual ostracization from the world. mac was always there for joyce no matter what but i dont think he particularly understood some of what was happening? he knew it was bad but they were little kids with terrible guardians, but i think dennis was the first person to recognize what was really happening with joyce and uncle jack and have a like. genuine connection over that trauma no one else fully Gets, mirrors of each other in an awful way.

i think over time long term mac gets over some of his hangups, especially after graduation when the twins leave for college and its just joymac against the world again but joyce never quite is as open as when they were kids until later on. i think it takes a while to build back up the comfort levels but no matter what mac is always joyces best friend, she's just not sure she's his for a long time in those growing years and she harbors, not resentment because she could never ever hate him, but a sort of deep sadness over it. in my mind especially post him coming out and Especially her coming out they're more comfortable holding hands in public and laying on one bed together again but for a long time i think theres a sort of mutual sadness of them not being able to have what they had as little kids with no one judging them

third(?) episode idea for joyceverse everyone say thank you rowan. shes outside the mall waiting like a pet dog for one of the twins to be done shopping and a little rat runs up and she goes oh my god. a little beast. and at first is really hesitant and goin to flick it away or something but it crawls into her hand shes like It Chose Me. and gets so emotional. so of course she keeps it and immediately mac is like WHY. do you have a scary rodent in the bar. that is the opposite of your job. and shes like well this my new pet. who i will name. uhm [looks bck and forth quickly] charlie. and dee is like thats really weird im not calling your trash mouse your past name and she huffs angrily and is like fine. my rat is named cat. isnt that nice. and literally no one cares but she spends the entire episode keeping it in her jacket pocket and making it a little outfit with her sewing machine and laying next to it. and then like two days later theyre in the bar and this woman comes in looking so sad and then sees them and goes OH MY GOD. YOU FOUND HIM 😭😭😭 THANK YOU SO MUCH... and joyce goes Your rat? 😦⁉️ ...... and mac is like aww buddy you did something good for the world reuniting them and shes like im Going to kill myself and gets so sad so frank buys her a pet cat for their apartment so she'll shut up. taking name suggestions for their awful garbage cat frank bought under a bridge in the comments thak you for coming. episode card smth like joyce steals a cat or smth after she says it isn't anyone elses
