The Witch on Horseback Institute for Cognitive Salubrity was a short-lived new age education center and performance space founded in Trumansburg, New York in the nineteen-seventies by former employees of the Moog synthesizer company. These forgotten recordings with disgraced Ithaca experimental psychologist Noving Jumand were discovered at a library sale in Ithaca, New York in the early 2020s, and have been restored from the original LPs by the musical entity known as Witch on Horseback, named in the Institute’s honor. Embark on a psychosomatic journey into the realm of heavy conscious synthtropics, a world of ambient tones and pulsing drones, abstract alien textures and hauntological discovery, all framed by the mesmerising voice of your host, Dr. Jumand.

Honestly my favourite thing now is realising how messy things are post TUA season four is so I went on a deep dive that means absolutely nothing but it's making me laugh in hindsight. There's obviously a lot of subtle digs right now by cast and fans alike toward Steve Blackman, very deserved but I noticed something earlier and I just wanna yap because it made me giggle a little bit. I saw this tiktok earlier where the cast is saying that Steve had always planned it to end at season four and immediately I was like, that's not right because I remember when season four was announced, or before it was officially renewed, it was said by Steve himself that he wanted to do seven seasons in total.

like i've been in this fandom since Day One and i remember everything for some ungodly reason... and then I saw on twitter a screenshot of an article where the cast stated that it was THEIR decision to end it all at four seasons instead. I couldn't find the tweet again because I didn't like it or anything because my phone did that dumb dumb thing where it refreshed (so if you posted it and you're seeing this, hiiii) but I went looking for the article and was able to find it.

Uhhhh... No conclusion to this post, shit's just messy and im just laughing at nothing adding up and the constant shade is the only thing stopping me from crying about this shitty season. Bye bye.

I hate to bitch but… I’m going to:

There was just? So much wrong this season and not even because I wasn’t a fan of the ending - in fact, I quite liked that they were 8 little marigolds together - but the rest of it!?

There’s at least three plot lines that added fuck all to the story - and I’m all for fluffing out the stories/characters, love me a filler episode - but not only did we not have time for a filler episode with 4 less episodes than usual those plot lines added nothing to the characters or the story or anything really.

Klaus getting kidnapped (again), no one noticing (again) - getting possessed & having sex, getting buried alive (again, if ykyk) apart from Alison going to save him - what did it add? - I love Klaus he’s literally my favourite character, I always want more Klaus but it kind of feels like they didn’t know what to do with him? - “let’s make him relapse and do some crazy stuff, for shits and giggles!”

Diego & Luther going to the CIA - this is the one I see the most sense in of course, but apart from making Diego realise that he shouldn’t take Lila and his kids for granted and announcing that the CIA guy was part of the whole Jean & Gene cult thing (and getting to see David Castañeda’s abs (despite supposedly having a Dad Bod now?)) it kind of went on too long? It felt like it was slightly misplaced? Idk

And of course, how could it go unmentioned - the Five/Lila romance? whAT THE FUCK!??? Like it’s creepy both ways bcos Ritu Arya is 15 years older than Aidan Gallagher - freshly legal - and because Five is nearly 70 at that point? And that’s without even mentioning the fact that, oh yeah - Lila’s married to his BROTHER? But if you took it out - what would change? Genuinely? That Lila will always choose her family? Choose Diego? Tbh she could easily come to that conclusion without any romance, she clearly longed to go back more than Five did (who btw, abandoned his family after spending his entire life trying to save them - WHAT?)

The only one making any progress was Viktor

And so many things left unexplained- why did Ray leave Alison? What happened to Dave? (Guessing he’s long dead now but we still don’t know if Klaus’ s2 plan had any effect & the only hint of him we got this season was the dog tags (more than last season at least)) Why is Reggie a fucking alien? How did he get to earth??

I just feel so unpleasantly underwhelmed for a show that has meant so much to me the past few years, for an ending that was mildly disappointing but not as much as the 4 episodes that came before it.

consider this: the hargreeves siblings numbers are based on how easy to control they are.

Luther is the most easy to control. He always wants to appease Reginald and do what he can to complete the mission and be daddy’s special boy.

Diego is rebellious, but in the sense that acts out for attention from his abusive parental figure. So Reginald puts what he wants to close to his reach, l knowing full well he will always be “number two.” I mean, at the end of the day, Diego was out kicking ass and being a “hero” until the end, just like Reggie trained him to be.

Allison tends to place her own needs first. Which makes sense since her power literally allows her to have whatever she wants when she wants. Reginald had to make things feel like they were “her” idea and use mind games. She didn’t care about her number, but she didn’t care about going against Reginald either. She stayed in her lane.

Klaus is when we start getting a bit harder to control, but not in a way that would affect Reginald’s “dignity”. He ran to drug use in order to suppress his abilities. He constantly was acting out and getting into trouble. But he didn’t act out very obvious ways to Reggie (ie: standing up to him verbally and publicly).

Now, Five. He is stubborn and believes himself to always be in the right. He’s a lot like Reggie, in a way. Which is probably why Reggie did not like him until they met in s2 and Five was mentally around the same age as him. They felt like equals, when before, Reginald saw Five as a child when Five did not see himself that way.

Ben was literally killed by Reginald because he did not follow his instructions. To a mission he did not want to go on. Ben constantly shows how he does not like using his powers (like Klaus) and therefore would be hard to force to train and go on missions.

Viktor. Oh, Viktor. His hard to control nature, high emotions (mostly due to his abuse), mixed with his world ending power level is not a force to be reckoned with. So instead Reggie decided he wasn’t worth the trouble. We see Viktor’s hard to control nature through the montage of Vanya/Viktor as a child throwing nanny after nanny around the house like a rag doll. And breaking the wine glasses with enough power to cut Reggie when he did try training.

Or it could be random because Reginald numbered them since birth. Who knows.
