hey, not sure if you really care about this, but the post about gally's backstory is wrong. tmi, but a while back, gunnm mars chronicle revealed gally's origins. gally is pretty explicitly some sort of euro-japanese mix. she isn't cloned from kagura dornburg, but from nollin sonann, who: (1) has a japanese-style name (2) has a european-looking brother (who also has a japanese-style name) (3) has an asian father, definitely not a white guy. so gally's probably haafu, or 1/4 white like bruce lee

tl;dr alita should have been played by an asian actress

(by “japanese-style” i mean that the names are probably japanese in origin. “nollin” is probably “のりん”, while her brother “itall”’s name is probably “いたる”)

Hey so thanks for bringing this up! I read through gunm mars chronicle (not the whole thing just up to the part where they reveal Gally’s true origins) and yes Gally / Alita is cloned from Norin Sonan. However, I actually disagree with you that the Sonan family is European-Japanese, because frankly all signs point towards them being of Japanese heritage. For starters, as you’ve said correctly, Sonan is a Japanese surname, while Norin, Itaru, and Kuruhito (the father’s name) are all recognizable Japanese given names. Not only that, but they all look pretty Japanese in appearance as well. I can see why you’d say Itaru Sonan looks European, but to me he looks pretty Japanese before he becomes Muster. In comparison there are few signs of them having European heritage except for the German-esque romanization of their names, but that is probably due to German culture of the Mars Colonies. (Not saying it isn’t possible, just that the evidence doesn’t seem to be there). 

But other than that I agree with you. If anything this just strengthens the case that Gally/Alita is Japanese, making Battle Angel Alita’s casting an even worse offense.
