so I didn't get into doing fanarts consistently until I was about 16, and my obsession peak for THG was between 11 and 15, so I must've done really few THG fanarts (and not very good ones at that) during my life despite it being a core part of my personality. So here's the first ever THG fanarts I upload to the internet, more that 10 years after first reading the saga. I tried to draw them book accurately, but that got kinda lost along the way, since i quit drawing it for a couple weeks bc of ✨ university ✨. Oops.
I'll probably upload it to Instagram tomorrow morning (?

That post about Peeta and Katniss (and Finnick and Annie) only being in a relationship because of trauma is an odd take. Firstly, you could say this about any pairing in the series no? Gale and Katniss /literally/ only met and bounded due to trauma and survival, once that was gone so was their relationship. If Kantniss wanted to be with Peeta because of trauma, wouldn't she have, IDK, done that from the beginning? Like glued to him from the first games on? Or better yet, why didn't she trauma bound with Gale and get into a relationship since he was the first guy to bond with her over trauma, its almost like she has thoughts, feelings, and emotions that aren't dictated by trauma. I 100% think Katniss, Peeta, Annie, and Finnick probably had a harder time getting together and being together due to each of their respective traumas. Anyway, odd take, even weirder to tag Everlark just to get a start things.
(sorry for the rant, i had to talk it out and no one IRL would care)
No worries, this is why fan spaces exist, so we can talk about fandom stuff with people who get it and aren't just (at best) polite about it.
And as always, reminder that "trauma bond" is something an abuser does to the person they are abusing of perpetuating trauma to bind that person to them. It's not two people who went through a trauma together and have a bond.
Yes, I do think just about any pairing has similar traumas to one another/went through trauma together. And of course anyone is going to be close to someone who supported them and they helped support when going through a trauma. Not to say you need trauma to build a relationship, but simply that shared trauma can forge relationships.
Nor does shared trauma decide how that relationship gets manifested. Many soldiers who go through war together consider their fellow soldiers brothers/sisters. If Katniss had no romantic feelings toward Peeta, their bond would have stayed platonic. And Peeta followed through on being a platonic support per Katniss's nonverbal language after Gale's whipping, even after she sniffed his hand and told him to stay with her. The Quell makes them both let go of concerns about a future they won't have and they veer romantic, but once again he's always following her lead.
Whereas Gale is assuming the romantic lead. He ambush kisses her when she gives no indication that's what she wants. He guilts her into agreeing to give him a chance. He gets pissy Katniss wants to bring Peeta and Haymitch to what he thought was going to be their wedding and honeymoon in the forest. And when Katniss was weeks away from going into a death arena for the SECOND time he asks her where they'd be if Peeta had been a jerk and died. In MJ everything he does is to try and one-up Peeta by acting a hero and "convince" Katniss that he loves her (like that's what their issue was???). And despite their shared trauma and all of his insistence on being romantic, she still is not attracted to him! Because she was never going to have romantic feelings for him.
And it's not like Odesta or Everlark sped-run their romances. Finnick says Annie "crept up on me" and Everlark "grew back together" in addition to the nearly two years the books take course over.
It's against etiquette for sure to put in the tag, but who really understands the mind of an internet troll?

I know I KNOW its tiktok but like. Just watch until the end. eoh. she really wrote ttpd about kantniss n peeta. never nit thinking about this.
it’s actually really cool that taylor swift consistently just writes songs specifically to inspire me to write hunger games fanfics. like it’s just nice of her to do that honestly, she’s an icon for it
(ok on a serious note though i do think it’s bc like i was saying the other day, thg makes a really poignant and accurate observation about the abuse of celebrities and the price of fame which is why so much of taylors work maps so well onto it, bc katniss experiences fame and an invasive obsession with her love life in a very realistic way so it’s unsurprising that taylor swift, real person, experienced a lot of those same feelings irl. but like let’s be real it’s more fun to say taylor swift wrote us 31 more hunger games concept songs and now we get to make SO MANY NEW EDITS TO THEM)

I love Katniss but sometimes she gets on my nerves she had Peeta Mellark. (PEETA MELLARK!) Angel of a boy want to cuddle and play with her hair and would risk his life for her and the rooftop date and didn't ever really expect reciprocated feelings no matter how hard it was for him and she just was like 👀 "I don't see anything like it's all an act like I don't feel the same" HELLO WHAT I wish my love life was hers like Im crushing on my ex guy friend I don't rlly speak to anymore it's BAD
Well, Peeta Mellark is the ultimate fictional boyfriend so yeah, while I was reading THG I had a lot of moments where I shook my head at Katniss when she passed up opportunities to explore or embrace her feelings for Peeta.
I am of the mindset that she felt differently for him/had a slight crush on him early on but struggled with admitting it to herself. Now I don't blame it all on Katniss. There were a lot of contributing factors to many of the misunderstandings that happened to hinder them forming a romantic relationship.
Namely, Peeta never talked to her before the Games. So...when you say she thought it was all an act that's because she had a legitimate reason to believe it was for most of the first book. They didn't know each other. Sure, she knew he was a nice guy, but they were forced to became tributes in The Hunger Games. Katniss figured all bets were off at that point, and they could never even be friends. Because they would have to kill each other or watch the other die in the arena. So she tried really hard not to get attached. (And Katniss is good at not getting attached. Like, she could teach a master class on the subject)
She operated with a survivor's mentality and she thought for sure that Peeta would abandon his nice guy persona in order to survive. Because that's what the Games did to people. Stripped them of their humanity and turned them into something they were not. It was a rare thing that Peeta had such a strong sense of self and high moral character and didn't succumb to the barbaric kill or be killed attitude when it came to Kantniss.
Also, Peeta declaring his love for her on national tv WAS BOTH a strategy to win the Games (for Katniss, but it ended up helping him too) and also a confession of his true feelings. It also scared the shit out of Katniss, because she was trying to prepare herself to go into a gladatorial death match and kill other kids her age, not get caught up in a teenage romance. Her mind was focused on coming home to her sister and mother, and handsome nice guy Peeta was acting all SUS around her. First being friendly, then wanting to train alone, then declaring feelings for her out of the blue, then allying with the careers, then betraying the careers to help her.
Homeboy had Katniss going back and forth so many times he must have given her whiplash. Now, its easy to see how much he loved her from the perspective of the observer. Readers can look back and say how obvious it was that Peeta was being genuine. Hindsight is 20/20 after all. But Katniss couldn’t read Peeta’s mind. And for all this talk about how Peeta had a way with words he left out some important information and failed to have a lot of honest and blunt conversations. (And Katniss is someone who needs things spelled out very bluntly for her.) She is not good at figuring out people’s motives, she assumes everyone is like her and is operating on a need to survive 24/7. In the first book she can’t even fathom someone being motivated by romantic love or a noble cause. (Until Peeta gives her his I don’t want to become somehting I’m not speech) That’s why she missed all of Peeta’s signals. Because he was speaking a language she doesn’t understand.
And that’s why their love story is so hard fought and hard won. Because Katniss has to learn, and basically teach herself to be emotionally vulnerable again after being subjected to so much tragedy and horror. I mean the girl fell in love in a span of two years in between two hunger games and a literal war. I think if their lives had been a little more stable, and if there hadn’t been so much pressure on them to perform and keep up the act, then Katniss would have worked out how she felt about Peeta a lot quicker.
The good news is she eventually got it right. She loved Peeta back in a way that was healthy for both of them. And Peeta fell back in love with her too. I know sometimes it’s hard to acknowledge that the struggle had to happen the way it did for the end result to be worth it, but I think for the most part Peeta’s investment in Katniss paid off.
Now, when I look at Katniss’ love life I don’t envy her at all. She had a lot of tough choices to make and she was put in a lot of difficult situations while she had to make them. I mean, you can’t have the kind of bond Katniss and Peeta have without the Hunger Games. Yes, they could have still fallen in love in an alternate universe but it would have been different. They would have been different people, and had a very different relationship. So, no. I really don’t think anybody should envy Katniss’ love life because it was a messed up dumpster fire. She went through so much turmoil and heartache, and not all of it was her fault, as I pointed out.
Life is not always like books. And sometimes that’s a good thing. I think Peeta is awesome but I’m glad he’s a fictional character in a story because that also means the Hunger Games are fictional. The rest of us real people have opportunities to go out and find love on our own terms without the threat of being thrown into an arena and facing imminent death. Also a good thing.
Everyday is a gift, and an opportunity. So, if you are considering a relationship with someone, do it on your own terms, and for the right reasons. Real love is messy even without the Hunger Games. But I hope you find that special someone who makes you as happy as Peeta makes Katniss.
Good luck anon, and may the odds be ever in your favor. <3

Interviewer: Thanks for having us here at your amazing house here in LA.
Kantniss: Sure thing, I am in between jobs at the moment, so I thought it would be fun to have you guys over here instead of some stuffy office. I mean can you beat this view?
Interviewer: I don’t think so. You bought this house with your savings from your work as a child actor, right?
Katniss: Yes, I got control of that money when I was 20, so it my early work paid for me to go to school as well as buy this house as soon as I moved back to LA.
Interviewer: Wow, you must have made a lot of money, and you went to Julliard for your BFA in Theater. Why did you choose to get a collage degree when obviously you could have skipped college and started a career in acting without it?
Katniss: I wanted to be respected for my work, and although I loved working for disney I wanted to work on projects that where heavier, but no one wanted to cast me because of my work history. I was also having issues with the media, so I thought why not take a break, get a degree, and step out of my comfertzone.
Interviewer: Yeah those issues with the media, why do you think that happened?
Katniss: I was a teen who was rebelling... and yeah, I got mixed up with a bad crowd, but that’s normal for most rebelling teens. I just happened to have it all plastered on tvs everywhere, and a cultivated image of being a sweet girl... but that is just what it was, an image of who people thought I was.  now I am honestly who I have always been, a bisexual musical theater nerd who likes drinking and dancing with friends... and there is nothing wrong with that.
Interviewer: Ah, yes, you have been working on a lot of musical theater, even when you where a kid. Did you ever think you would be nominated for a Tony?
Katniss: Oh god no, I hoped and dreamed, but I thought I was going to be a Hollywood actress forever... not that Hollywood isn’t amazing, but my love of theater started when I was a kid and my parents took me to see Beauty and the Beast. I had always loved the movie, but there was something so much more amazing about watching it on stage. The fact that I get to do that for kids now a-days is a miracle.
Interviewer: Yes, I was lucky enough to manage to see you with the original cast of Alexander. How did you manage to land such an amazing role?
Katniss: I went to school with the writer and we became friends while working on shows at school. So when he was workshopping the show he asked me to help, and as the project moved forward I got the honor of keeping the role of Eliza.
