MAD HATTERS’ AFFAIR

Unfortunately I couldn’t find a whole lot on this festival apart from on this one website, but I thought some of their eco-friendly choices were unique and exciting compared to other festivals who all seem to do similar eco-friendly things (which is still amazing, but it’s nice to see other ways of becoming eco-friendly).

Mad Hatters’ Affair made its debut at the beginning of September 2019. Not only did all their profit go to charity, they also unequivocally banished single-use plastics from the festival site and powered the festival using renewable energy sources. 

As well as amping up their own eco-credentials, Mad Hatters’ Affair also partnered with some great companies, including Sapling Spirits – a British-based vodka company which plants a tree for each bottle produced – and KarTent who, shocked at the great swathes of tents discarded at the end of festivals, have created the perfect solution: a recycled and recyclable cardboard tent. According to the clever chaps behind KarTent, this magical cardboard invention will withstand rain showers for a few days at least.

Additionally, this utterly fabulous festival also has a weird and wonderful line-up, featuring a great medley of tastes and genres. Reaching through the (quite normal) sounds of reggae, folk and funk, the musical offering then takes a dive down the rabbit hole with the slightly more unusual genre of ‘Witch music for animals. Animal music for witches. Familiar music for witches’ animals.’ 

Food vendors on site will be serving plant-based dishes but you are welcome to bring food and soft drinks with you to the campsite but not into the arena. Although they are a vegan festival, they will not be stopping you from bringing animal products into the campsite. (WOOTTON, 2019)

TREND - duurzaamheid

Onze geliefde koning Willem-Alexander heeft een aantal jaren geleden in een toespraak uitgebracht dat ons land een missie heeft: 

‘’in 2050 volledig onafhankelijk zijn van fossiele brandstoffen en schaarse primaire grondstoffen.’’ 

We moeten gaan verduurzamen, nieuwe manieren vinden om productieprocessen zo weinig mogelijk afval te laten creëren maar ook kijken naar onze eigen persoonlijke recycle manieren en hoe wij als consumenten ons ook bewust worden van ons aandeel aan de afval-economie. 

Dit is ook een onderwerp waarin er in deze tijden ook veel gedaan wordt. Je ziet ook bijvoorbeeld op dit moment veel minder co2 in de lucht zit door het feit dat er bijna niet gevlogen wordt door de corona-crisis. Hier worden mensen zich bewust van en beginnen tot op een kleinere schaal steeds meer de duurzame trend wordt toegepast. Ook in evenementen. 

Een voorbeeld hiervan is het duurzame festival Welcome To The Village, die met als doel heeft haar festival een zoveel mogelijke DORP-uitstraling te geven. Hierin omschrijft Welcome To The Village op hun site: 

‘’Waarom een festival perfect is voor innovatie Waarom? Omdat een festival niet alleen cultureel gezien een verrijking voor onze samenleving is, maar het ook een mini-maatschappij met dezelfde uitdagingen als de echte wereld creëert. Hoe wekken we energie op, wat doen we met onze grondstofstromen en waar halen we voedsel vandaan?’’

Dat is wat ik prachtig vind aan het concept van het festival, ze zien hun jaarlijkse ‘dorp’ als een plek waar je dingen uit kan proberen, die daarna ook toe te passen zijn op een grote schaal in de maatschappij. 

Zo kijken ze naar groener energie opwekken door wind- en zonne energie, maar ook werken ze met het festival samen met KARTENT. Een bedrijf die van gerecycled karton tenten maakt die minder slecht zijn voor het milieu en na gebruik gewoon bij het oud papier kunnen! Ook hebben ze ieder jaar het vlees dat wordt verkocht, gehaald bij lokale boeren. Ze kopen daar en aantal koeien op die goed worden verzorgd en geven daarna de hamburgers de naam van de koe. Om zo de bezoekers van het festival niet te laten vergeten dat er een koe is gestorven voor hun vlees. Zo houd je ook het bewustzijn bij de bezoekers hoog! 

Ik hoop dat in de komende jaren meer events, waaronder de festivals volgen met goede initiatieven om de scene te verduurzamen!

Electric Forest Introduces "Eco-Tent" Which Is Basically A $200 Cardboard Box | Your EDM

Electric Forest takes pride in going green and keeping the grounds clean. The organizers, as well as the attendees (for the most part), do an excellent job of this year after year. So, when we saw the “GA Eco-Tent Add-On” feature being introduced in 2019, it definitely caught our attention.

So, what is it? Well, we’ll let them explain: In partnership with Electricology, presenting the GA Eco-Tent, Electric Forest’s most sustainable camping option. Unlike a regular tent the Eco-Tent is made out of high quality wood fiber cardboard, and is fully recyclable after use! The Eco-Tent neighborhood will be adjacent to tent only camping, close to both Main Street and the venue entrance.

In other words, for $200 attendees can camp in a glorified cardboard box. Um, what?

This option might be convenient for out-of-towners flying in or someone who straight up hitchhiked all the way to Forest (hey, I’m sure it has happened more than once). But, $200??? Who has this kind of disposable income to spend on a disposable — sorry, recyclable — shelter? Not to mention: what good will it be if it rains? What kind of insulation does it provide to keep you warm?

Writes Designboom, “The kartent is made entirely out of un-coated and thick cardboard providing a structural strength not found in a standard tent. each tent is designed to host two people with room for storage and has a 3.3-square-meter floor plan with a small back window to keep it fresh. according to their website a kartent ‘will stay dry with some showers for sure’ and ‘will perform similar under heavy conditions as a regular tent would’ for several days.”

Keep in mind this price does not include the price of a GA admission, which starts at $324.75.

OPEN BEATZ 2019: Sechs Stages und ein Camping-Areal inklusive eigener Stage

Das OPEN BEATZ Festival in Herzogenaurach findet in diesem Jahr vom 18. bis 21. Juli 2019 statt. Süddeutschlands größtes OpenAir Festival für elektronische Musik liefert DJ’s aus allen Genres der elektronischen Musik. Von EDM über Techno und Hardstyle bis hin zu Goa, Hardcore, Trance und Bass House werden nahezu alle Genres auf insgesamt sieben Stages präsentiert. Wer in unmittelbarer Nähe des Festivalareals schlafen möchte, der kann seine Zelte von Donnerstag, den 18. Juli, bis zum Sonntag den 21. Juli im Camping-Bereich aufschlagen. Dritte Bandwelle am Greenfield Festival 2020

Das Greenfield Festival kündigt folgende Bands des Line-ups 2020 an: Schwedische Metal-Hymnen von HAMMERFALL werden von den Berner Alpen hallen. The HU bringen einen abgefahrenen Mix aus klassisch mongolischer Musik und hartem Heavy Metal nach Interlaken. DANKO JONES zelebriert seinen unnachahmlichen kanadischen Rock auf der Bühne, Punk-Ikonen THE DISTILLERS kommen nach über einer Dekade Funkstille endlich ans Greenfield Festival. Wer noch mehr Punk will, kann sich auf SPANISH LOVE SONGS und ihre tiefsinnigen Songs freuen. Last but not least freuen wir uns auf ein Wiedersehen mit den Schweizer Shooting-Stars am Metalcore Himmel FINAL STORY!

Das Greenfield Festival findet nächstes Jahr vom 11. bis 13. Juni statt und ist stolz weitere Bands für das Festival vorzustellen. Zwei Bands sind noch ausstehend: Die beiden Gewinner des Greenfield Foundation Band Contests. Somit ist das Programm des Greenfield Festivals komplett.

Ab sofort sind 2-Tagespässe für DO&FR und FR&SA für CHF 170.00 erhältlich. Wegen dem durchschlagenden Erfolg gibt es dieses Jahr wieder die Angebote für die Camping Claims und die KarTents.

Gruppen sichern sich ein eigenes Stück „Greenfield Festival“ auf dem Festivalgelände – mit den Camping Claims in einem abgegrenzten Areal.

KarTent (ein Karton-Zelt) ist simpel, aber trotzdem bietet es Komfort für max. zwei Personen inklusive Stauraum für das Festivalgepäck. Und wer will, kann die KarTents inklusive Luftmatratze und Schlafsack buchen.

Auch dieses Jahr wird der Greenfield Mittelaltermarkt auf dem Camping präsentiert. HammerFall HammerFall steht seit mehr als 25 Jahren für kraftvollen, majestätischen und melodischen Heavy Metal. Die unvergesslichen Refrains, geradlinigen und schweren Riffs, donnernden Drums, pochenden Bässe und hervorragenden Vocals werden ohne Zweifel als Metal-Hymnen für die Ewigkeit in die Geschichtsbücher eingehen. Die schwedischen Heavy Metal-Giganten veröffentlichten 2019 ihr neues, elftes Album „Dominion“.

The HU The HU ist eine Band aus der Mongolei, die Heavy Metal mit traditionellen mongolischen Instrumenten wie der Morin Khuur (Pferdekopfgeige), Tovshuur (mongolische Gitarre), Tumur Khuur (Maultrommel), Kehlengesang sowie dem bombastischen Bass und den Drums des Rock verbindet. Ihre ersten beiden Videos gingen sofort viral und bescherten der Band über 50 Millionen Aufrufe.

Danko Jones Bedarf es bei Danko Jones wirklich noch einer Vorstellung? Das kanadische Rock-Trio hat den Garage Rock in den letzten 24 Jahren in die Stadien getragen und Blues Rock von Stadionformat in einer Garage in deiner Nähe gespielt. Danko Jones werden dem Greenfield Festival 2020 mit einer heissen Live-Show erneut den Stempel als grösstes Rockfestival der Schweiz aufdrücken.

The Distillers Nach ihrer Gründung in 1998 veröffentlichten die Punk-Ikonen aus Los Angeles eine Reihe von rauen und kraftvollen Alben und EPs, darunter Hits wie “City of Angels” oder “Drain the Blood”, bevor sie eine vorzeitige Pause einlegten und sich schliesslich 2006 trennten. Nach zwölf Jahren Funkstille kehrten The Distillers 2018 zurück mit neuen Singles, 2020 kommen Brody Dalle & co. nach Interlaken!

Spanish Love Songs Spanish Love Songs’ Sound bündelt die Energie betrunkener Barshows mit der Unmittelbarkeit intimer Texte aus dem Leben. Die fünfköpfige Punkband aus Los Angeles präsentiert auf ihren beiden Alben Songs, in denen es um Apathie und Angstzustände Mitte Zwanzig geht. Mit hymnischen und eindringlichen Punksongs präsentieren sie ein mitreissendes Kunstwerk, welches nicht nur geile Musik zelebriert, sondern zudem mit Tiefgang aufwarten kann.

Final Story Final Story waren bereits 2016 zu Gast am Greenfield Festival, als sie den Band Contest in Zürich für sich entschieden hatten, doch in den vergangenen Jahren ist einiges geschehen bei der Metalcore-Band aus dem Aargau. Final Story liefern einen Gänsehautmoment nach dem anderen, sowohl auf der Platte als auch auf der Bühne, wie das brandneue Album „Savaged Soul“ belegt.
