Howie laughs, brief and loud. For a moment it soothes over Tommy’s nerves, calming the anxious creature curled up in his chest.

“You’re ridiculous,” she tells him. “And alllll yours.”  Cora sends him a glare, but there’s no heat to it as her smile forces its way to the surface. “Set the table before I burn your breakfast.” He gasps and makes his way over to wrap his arms around her waist. “You would never,” he murmurs playfully. His thumbs brush over her belly, just beginning to show. Still quiet, he asks, “How’s Mama today?” They haven’t told anyone yet, not even Cece. Keeping the secret to themselves hasn’t exactly been easy given Cora’s extremely nosy family. Tommy wouldn’t trade them for the world, though. He wishes his own family would have shown half as much interest as hers does.

He studies them again, releasing another content sigh, smiling dopily when Shannon looks his way, appearing equally tranquil. He won’t deny it’s a little odd when she tilts her head, exposing her neck to Eddie and rubbing her scent on him. Okay, more than a little odd. It’s an incredibly personal act, bordering on too intimate for friends. He wishes he wasn’t so conflicted about witnessing it. Especially once the scents of verbena and lime (Shannon), then vanilla and coconut (Eddie) hit him like a brick wall. Buck forces himself to swallow the whine at the back of his throat.
