The first 2D #BZshorts film is directed by People and Talent Coordinator, Katie Gascoyne. Our commitment to pioneering new talent and giving opportunities to ALL staff is at the heart of the shorts program. This year, there was a blind pitch where the whole company was invited to pitch an idea for the music video to Scouting for Girl’s Christmas single. Specifically, the brief asked for an “odd couple.” Katie won the blind pitch with a heart-warming pairing between Dan, a living gingerbread man, and his human girlfriend, Mandy.

Toilet paper, is a tissue paper product people primarily use to clean the anus and surrounding area of fecal material after defecation and to clean the perineal area of urine after urination and other bodily fluid releases. It also acts as a layer of protection for the hands during these processes. It is usually supplied as a long strip of perforated paper wrapped around a paperboard core for storage in a dispenser near a toilet. Most modern toilet paper in the developed world is designed to decompose in septic tanks, whereas some other bathroom and facial tissues are not. Toilet paper comes in various numbers of plies (layers of thickness), from one- to six-ply, with more back-to-back plies providing greater strength and absorbency.

Neural network roller derby names

Like most of you I have been entranced by the neural network expieriments going on over at http://lewisandquark.tumblr.com/ and wanted to try out the exercise on some other data sets, just to see how it goes.

In my search for large datasets that would take minimal typing to get in an acceptable data format, I remembered that there’s a huge registry of roller derby names: https://www.twoevils.org/rollergirls/

I pulled out the full list of names from that page and plopped it into the Docker container that has been created for running torch-rnn: https://github.com/crisbal/docker-torch-rnn

With a huge dataset I was able to pull out some wild new names. So here are some samples, following Janelle’s example of tuning the temperature value to see what shows up. Apologies for the length of these lists, but it was so hard to just pick a small selection.

Prendi una sera in cui senti un'amica e tutte e due state tornando dall'ufficio e ci date appuntamento da Gogol. Quello di via Savona. Sto bene perché Chiara mi conosce bene, perché il vino è buono e i ragazzi di Gogol molto carini. Alla cassa trovo questa cartolina e così inizio a parlare con la libraria, Marta. Canadian tales Anche se ieri sera ero un po' giù alla fine sono stata molto felice di essere passata da herschel che ho scoperto nascondere un piano di sotto con una piccola libreria Gogol dedicata ai viaggi! E da quei reading mi è salita un'ondata di ricordi legati ai miei innumerevoli viaggi in Canada. Google mi ha addirittura fatto ritrovare il "piccolo" Luka di Markham a cui ho fatto da baby sitter quando era un minuscolo bimbo grassottello (8 mesi!!!!). Che flash ritrovarlo ora piccolo adolescente mentre canta ad un talent con Katy Perry :) Ho ripensato a quel periodo lì, in cui mi sentivo libera quando mi mandavano a fare la spesa da Loblaws e stavo ore nel supermercato. O alle mie domeniche da barnes and nobles dove al muro c'era una enorme parete piena di foto degli scrittori canadesi. E a quelle serate che finivano a casa Perin a Toronto con quella deliziosa pumpkin pie prima di riprendere la metro e poi il bus e poi la bici per la mia casa di Markham. Ma poi mi è venuto in mente anche un viaggio in macchina con Susanne, sullo camin de roi (Si scrive sicuro in un altro modo) dove ci siamo raccontate tante cose. Ma anche la passeggiata allo chalet dove c'è la casa di legno costruita da Louis e dove abbiamo raccolto le tete de violin (Che bomba di verdura!!). Ma altri 1000 aneddoti, quando ho conosciuto James, quella notte al parco con la paura degli orsi, un ostello orrendo a Vancouver, una giornata sui pattini ad Edmonton, una cena a Montréal con il mio ospite airbnb Martin, la poesia della gaspesie. Altri posti assurdi e sconosciuti che forse, se oggi li ho dimenticati, mi torneranno in mente. O forse no, visto che mi sento sempre più vicina a barney ;) Maledetto mal di Canada e alle storie che vorrei ancora raccontare.

Kangasalla tutkaillaan muutoksia nykyisiin pysäköintijärjestelyihin kunnan keskustassa. Kunnanjohtaja Oskari Auvisen mukaan harkinnassa on pidentää sallitun pysäköinnin enimmäisaikaa kolmeen tuntiin ja paikoin kahdeksasta kymmeneen tuntiin. Samalla mietitään, miten keskusta-alueen pysäköintijärjestelyjä voitaisiin rukata tilapäisesti uusiksi, kun linja-autoaseman purku ja uudelleenrakennus sekä hotellihanke lähtevät liikkeelle ja vaikuttavat osaltaan parkkipaikkojen määrään.

– Selvittelemme tilapäisen pysäköinnin järjestämistä esimerkiksi Kelan eteen ja K-kaupan yhteyteen viheralueelle, Auvinen kertoi maanantaina kunnan valtuustolle.

Hän uskoo pysäköintitalon ratkaisevan aikanaan merkittävän osan keskusta-alueen parkkipaikkaongelmasta.

Pysäköintiasiat nousivat tapetille maanantaina, kun valtuusto käsitteli tiedoksi saamaansa valtuustoaloitevastausta, jossa selviteltiin kunnan pysäköinninvalvonnan tilannetta. Aloitteessa pohdittiin, onko alun perin parkkipaikkojen kiertonopeuden lisäämiseen tähtäävässä pysäköinninvalvonnassa karannut ”mopo käsistä” ja sakottamisesta otettu uusi tulonlähde kunnalle.

Saadun vastauksen mukaan pitkäaikaispysäköintiä on pystytty pysäköinninvalvonnalla ohjaamaan pois torin tuntumasta eikä keskustan yrityselämän näivettymistä voi laittaa varmuudella pysäköinninvalvonnan syyksi. Päinvastoin vastauksessa muistutetaan käytännön saaneen alkunsa keskustayrittäjien toiveesta. Rahasammoksi parkkisakoista ei ole kunnan mukaan ollut; toimintakate on viime vuosina ollut 63 000–100 000 euroa.

Kunnanjohtaja Auvisen mukaan tarve jatkuvalle pysäköinninvalvonnalle säilyy vastakin. Samaa arveltiin valtuustoaloitteeseen laaditussa vastauksessa, jonka mukaan kangasalalaiset pysäköivät kovin kehnoin taidoin. Vajaan 32 000 asukkaan kunnassa kirjoitetaan joka vuosi noin 4000 pysäköintisakkoa. Muutama vuosi sitten määrä oli jopa 6000.

Tuoksuttomuutta ja arkistotiloja

Hyvin valmistelluksi ja toimiin johtavaksi nähtiin myös valtuustoaloite, jossa tuoksuyliherkkyyden huomioimiseksi esitettiin Kangasalan ryhtyvän hajusteettomaksi työnantajaksi ja siirtyvän hajusteettomiin valtuustokokouksiin. Asiaan tullaan kunnan mukaan kiinnittämään huomiota ja tuoksuttomien tuotteiden käyttöä suosittelemaan, mutta ehdottomaksi edellytykseksi sitä ei voida määritellä.

Kunnanhallituksen kannan hyväksyneen valtuuston puheenjohtajan Hanna Laineen (sd) mukaan valtuusto tuleekin jatkossa suosittelemaan kokouksiin osallistuville tuoksuttomien hygieniatuotteiden käyttöä.

– Olen todella tyytyväinen, että aloite on otettu vakavasti. Se on paitsi työntekijöiden myös lasten suojelemiseksi kouluissa ja päiväkodeissa, aloitteen tehneiden vihreiden Eija Eskola kiitteli.

Timo Keskinen (kd) puolestaan arvioi kristillisdemokraattien valtuustoaloitteeseen maanantaina tullutta vastausta perusteelliseksi, joskin hieman väärästä näkökulmasta selvitetyksi.

Kristillisdemokraatit olivat toivoneet kunnan löytävän käyttökelpoista tilaa hyödynnettäväksi paikallisten yhdistysten arkistointikäyttöön. Kunnan strategisen johdon vastauksen mukaan tällaista tilaa ei ole – kunnan omat arkistot ovat jo nyt täynnä ja Suoraman kirjaston tilojen arkistotilat ovat ongelmalliset, jos tiloja satuttaisiinkin tarvitsemaan varsinaiseen käyttötarkoitukseensa eli väestönsuojelutiloina.

– Harmi, että ehkä nyt mentiin vähän liikaa tämä arkistokylki edellä, Keskinen voivotteli.

Hyvinvointijohtaja töihin

Valtuusto myös hyväksyi Kati Halosen nimityksen uudeksi hyvinvointijohtajaksi.

Hyvinvointijohtaja toimii sivistyskeskuksen johtajana pyörittäen varhaiskasvatusta, opetuspalveluita, kulttuuri- ja vapaa-aikapalveluita sekä hyvinvointityötä. Hän muun muassa toimii kunnan hyvinvointityöryhmän puheenjohtajana ja osallistuu sote- ja maakuntauudistuksen tuomien muutosten valmistelutyöhön. Myöhemmin uudistuksen toteuduttua hyvinvointijohtajan on määrä toimia linkkinä Kangasalan ja maakunnan välillä.

Kunnanhallituksen ja haastattelutyöryhmän suosittelema Halonen valittiin virkaan kaikkiaan lähes 50 hakijan joukosta. Näistä yhdeksän valikoitiin koulutuksen ja kokemuksen perusteella jatkoseulontaan ja viisi kärkihakijaa passitettiin vielä soveltuvuustesteihin.

Osa valtuutetuista olisi halunnut lyhyesti tavata kärkiehdokkaita ennen valinnan hyväksymistä, ja ainakin Tony Lähdettä (vihr) mietitytti, miten käy, jos valittu ei syystä tai toisesta otakaan virkaa vastaan kun varahenkilö puuttuu. Kunnanjohtaja Auvisen mukaan valituksi tulemisesta udeltiin hakijoilta jo valintaprosessin aikana, ja jos tilanne niin vaatisi, hakua jatkettaisiin.

Halosen on tarkoitus aloittaa työt helmikuun alussa hyvinvointipäällikön nimikkeellä ja puolen vuoden perehtymisjaksolla ennen sivistystoimenjohtaja Leena Pajukosken jäämistä eläkkeelle. Hyvinvointijohtajan pestinä työ jatkuu elokuun alusta lähtien.

Valtuuston tämän vuoden viimeistä kokousta piristi Suomen kuntaliiton valtuuskunnan vaali. Anja Aarnio sai kunnian aloittaa lappujen pudottamisen uurnaan, Jarmo Kivineva ja Jorma Mäntylä valvoivat tilannetta sivusta.

Kanadassa kuuden ihmisen ampumisesta epäilty mies on saanut syytteet murhista, kertoo uutistoimisto Reuters.
