#kdramawomensweek day 1: Mentorship Go Hye Ran & Han Ji Won (Misty)

One of my favourite things about Misty was how they took the trope of an older more capable woman being pit against a younger woman for her job; and turned it around. 

Ji Won and Hye Ran begin as rivals pit against each other to be the anchor for News Nine, however as the drama develops they begin to join forces, with Hye Ran becoming Ji Won’s mentor and shaping her to become a solid successor.

Day 4: #hertoo

I adore Do Hee in Hogu’s Love. It isn’t revealed for quite a long time that her baby was from being raped. That said, though she’s arguably guilt-tripped at times, Do Hee is so strong in the drama and even though I wish the drama had gone more into finding justice for her, I am so glad she found happiness and support. (Despite Hogu being a complete idiot at times.) She stands up for herself and manages to accomplish her own goals while caring for the baby. Even though a lot of (male) characters comment on what she should and shouldn’t do, she sticks with her decisions and I admire her for it.

#KDRAMAWOMENSWEEK → Day Five: Favourite Debut

Lee Sun Bin as Ma Ri (Madame Antoine)

I have a huge soft spot for troubled girls in kdramas, but there was something about Ma Ri’s literal one episode storyline that I just loved so much, and its 100% because I saw Lee Sun Bin and was like “i’ve stanned her for like 1 second but if anything ever happens to her i’ll kill everyone in this room then myself”. 

I’ve spoken a few times about my tragic backstory as a Lee Sun Bin stan, in that when this aired I ran to find out who she was, only to find she was new aka she was in nothing!  But as trashy as Madame Antoine ended up being, I am so so so glad I started it and got introduced to the absolute greatness that is Lee Sun Bin! And even if she was new, it was okay because Squad 38 started a few months later, and there she was !!! I was so happy ?!! (dramatic and cheesy? i literally don’t care, i love her with my whole heart)

And like, sure she’s only had 1 lead role and mostly plays side characters but oh my god does she pick a variety of roles! (i always sigh when i think about a previous kdww’s prompt on least typecast fave, because i was still a new LSB stan and didn’t think to use her, but she’s literally the definition of least typecast!!!)

(you know what, i’m just going to redirect you guys here because i love her and i just wish that others would see her potential ???)

Hi. Still here. Hanging out at home and social distancing like most everyone else.

Haven’t really been in the mood to watch dramas (Hi, Bye mama is just too depressing right now, and I fell behind on When the Weather is Nice. Might start it up again...). I’m finishing up courses online, but have been dealing with stress by embroidering, watching old Doctor Who eps, Pride and Prejudice, and reading.

I hope everyone is doing okay in these weird, hard times. I’m away from my fam, and it’s tough, and my heart goes out to everyone in a similar situation. Also, shout out to all the incredible people around the world helping societies work though this pandemic.

I’ll get back to drama content soon--I told myself I’d do kdww, but my final assignments are creeping up, so we’ll see. Regardless, thanks for sticking around, and if anyone needs to talk, I’m around! Just not posting a lot.
