Despite the bit of tension that had lingered between the two of them ever since the Northwest-Finnegan engagement party and Sharpay’s first performance of her new songs, there were very few people on this island that Troy trusted as much as he did Kelsi. Especially when it came to a situation like the one he was in now. Because while she may have her own personal opinion regarding his love life, she’d never let it create a bias so strong that she couldn’t see the warrant in each side of the love triangle he found himself stuck within. Something he couldn’t say the same to be true for any of his other friends - Chad being firmly anti-Sharpay even still to this day and Ryan making it clear he wanted nothing to do with the situation. Which left him with the playmaker, the composer that he knew would always support him no matter what decisions he made in his life.

With both of their coffees picked up from the counter, he tilted his head to the side for Kelsi to follow him before navigating his way over towards one of the more secluded tables in the back. “You know, it’s kind of pathetic the more I think about it,” he starts off as he takes a seat with a sigh, setting the coffee down and fiddling with it rather than taking any sip. “I think I have more drama in my life than my teenage students. At least with them they have the excuse of raging hormones throwing them in every direction. I’m too grown for that, yet here I am, back in the middle of a game of tug-a-war that I thought I’d left behind me years ago.” Then again, he should have known better than to think it’d be so easy to let it all go. Especially considering the only reason why he’d given up Gabriella in the first place and let his heart be open to anyone else had been because she left him, not because he’d actually wanted to move on at the time. Breathing another sigh, Troy looked up directly at his companion and just blurted out what he had asked her here to discuss. “I think I know what I’m going to do. But… I wanted to know what you thought of it first.”

While now that he was in getting his PhD he no longer had to worry about final exams the way he had in undergrad and graduate school, this was still his first semester in the program and therefore before break could begin he was required to turn in the first rough draft of his dissertation proposal. Which honestly, Jackson thought might be even more nerve wracking than any exam could possibly be. While normally he’d be tucked away in the library or his own apartment as he worked on reading and editing the draft for what felt like the hundredth time, he had needed a bit of a pick me up to make up for the fact that Holt had been out all night without getting any amount of sleep. The Jekyll-Hyde curse thankfully somehow gifted them the ability to run on far less sleep than the average human required, but they still needed to get at least an hour or two somewhere in the days to be functioning at full ability. Normally they tried to make sure they each got at least one hour in during their time controlling the body, but Jackson simply didn’t have the time to make up for his other half’s nightmare when he had his own deadlines to worry about. So caffeine it was.

He was currently waiting for his order to be brought over to the decent sized table he hand managed to snag for himself by the window, the only one that had been open after he put in his order, and was working on pulling all of his materials out of his backpack when suddenly someone was standing over him, hovering by the chair across the other side of the table. He’s just about to ask what she’s doing until a glance around the room makes it obvious that she was likely hoping to join him at the too big table he’d claimed. “Oh, uh… you can join me, if you want?” The offer comes out more like a question despite the fact that he means it, he just doesn’t know if that’s actually what she really wants. “I’m just going to be reading over a paper, if that doesn’t bother you too much.”

After doing her own appearance at the stage door, Poppy returned back to her dressing room, not at all surprised to find a stranger standing semi awkwardly in the center of the room. Back when they had first started rehearsals, Ryan had told her all about one of his best friends that he was currently working on writing a musical with and the brunette had known she wanted to know the girl right then and there. Times had never worked out, but she was determined to finally meet Kelsi once and for all - and what seemed like a better time than their opening night show? So she had told Ryan to have her come around to her dressing room when she was done congratulating and visiting with him. “Sorry to keep you waiting,” she starts off apologizing, grinning bright as she enters the room. “There were way more people out there than I really thought there’d be. Are all stage doors like this? Or is it just because it’s opening night?” The questions came rushing out as she ran a hand through her hair, and gave a quick glance at herself in the mirror before turning her attention fully to the other girl. “Oh, shoot. I’ve been so rude. I’m Poppy, by the way. You’re Kelsi, right?”

“Your turn, Kelsi!” Riley chimed in a bright voice as she skipped back to their table with the karaoke microphone in hand—which she probably wasn’t supposed to take away from the stage, but she had no shame in claiming the next song for her friend. If anybody else wanted to go up, they could either ask nicely or wait a few more minutes for their turn, because they just needed one more number to give Kelsi a chance to perform! Riley knew the other girl wouldn’t volunteer herself, so she would step up and give her the little push needed.

Kelsi received a job promotion that required her to move to San Myshuno. She said her job would demand most of her time so she couldn't take baby Zoe along with her. She admitted that she was never ready to be a mother. Christos decided to step up and become a single father to baby Zoe.

One of the biggest benefits of having been so popular back in high school was never feeling alone at an event like this. Even if none of his close friends were around, there was always someone that he knew - or at least, someone who knew him, which worked just as well. However, Troy knew the same couldn’t be said for everyone else. Which was why when he saw Kelsi standing off on her own, he didn’t hesitate to approach her. For all it was fun hanging out with the randoms or acquaintances from his past, he would always pick one of his actual friends over them anyday. Especially when it seemed like said friend may not be having the same amount of fun as he currently was. “Kelsi,” he calls out as he gets closer, grinning wide as he approaches and swinging an arm around the pianist’s shoulder. “Have you heard about any karaoke being here? Someone mentioned how they thought Pacifica might bust it out - but I haven’t even seen her here yet.” Though he figured if there was any type of music being performed, Kelsi could easily be one of the first to sniff it out.
