Kenai Fjords National Park photo trip

I recently returned from Alaska where I participated in a photo expedition in Kenai Fjords NP. It was a fabulous trip. Here are a few observations and a link to photos on my website.

This trip, by far, was the most challenging for me. Between fast flying birds, choppy seas, rain, mist and fog and whales that you just had to guess where they would surface (I guessed wrong most times), it made for exciting photography. And, at the same time, it was a great experience and Alaska is quite a beautiful place! 

The Puffins had to be my favorites - so goofy looking but totally cute

The Steller Sea Lions are masses of blubber and very playful

The Eagles are so completely majestic

The Sea Otters are a close second to the Puffins in terms of cuteness

The Whales, both Orcas and Humpbacks, were by far the most difficult to photograph because eye tracking doesn't work on underwater subjects. But they were the most exciting, despite not getting many good shots.

The scenery is stunning, even when cloaked in fog and mist!

So, I went to check out Norway's Fjords and I also want out to Alaska, USA's fjords, and I'm not on the bandwagon like everone else who goes to Norway. They had to some really cool stuff there, but there are some thing that were kind of ... well read this and see if you agree with the differences between Norway and USA fjords. I think USA's fjords are highly underrated.

Humpback Whales Bubble-net Feeding

A great 8 hour tour in Katmai Fjord National Park out of Seward. Heading to the N W Glacier the captain saw several boats around a location where a group of Humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) were Bubble-net feeding in Resurrection Bay.
