By Any Other Name - Ominis Gaunt x OC
“That what which we call a rose, by any other name would smell as sweet…”
Tumblr media
Alice Morgan felt out of place. She had grown up in Olongapo City, in the Philippines. Born to muggle parents. She was the youngest of 6 beautiful children, three of which possessed magic. In a way, she had it better than her siblings. She had them to guide her. Even so, stepping into a university she had never been to, in a country she had never been to, learning to hone abilities she had only just begun to discover, it was overwhelming to say the least.
“You have to get out of that head of yours eventually, you know,” The calming voice of her eldest sister, Athena, silenced her thoughts. Alice smiled up at her in an attempt to calm hers and her sister’s worries. They were in Kings Cross Station, on platform 9¾. They had gotten there rather early, Athena hated being late, so the platform was quite quiet compared to the hustle and bustle of what would come just minutes after.
“She can be nervous if she wants to, ‘Te!” Alice’s brother, Kenji, threw his arms around both of their shoulders, settling between them. “As long as she knows she can always come to her big siblings for guidance and support.”
“Ken’s right,” Athena smiled warmly over at Alice. “You’ll always be able to easily come to one of us and ask for help.”
“Well… That is if Nene gets sorted into one of our houses,” Kenji pondered, using his left hand to scratch his chin, unintentionally pulling Alice’s head closer. Alice squeezed her way out of his grasp, taking a few steps away from her siblings.
“But that leaves two other houses I could be put in,” Alice shakes her head. “I don’t like my chances.”
“Enough,” Athena boomed in English. “We are in a European school, Alice, you need all the practice you can get. For now, we speak English.”
The youngest siblings nodded, not wanting to test their older sister. It was true. Alice had only known a miniscule amount of English before receiving her letter from Hogwarts University. Athena was already in her fourth year at Hogwarts. Her accent had mostly faded. Only popping up when she was stressed or aggravated, which was scarce. Athena was known for staying cool and collected. She was the voice of reason and would rarely lose her composure. As expected, from the second eldest of the Morgan children.
Kenji Morgan was only a year older than Alice. He was cheerful, easygoing, and the life of the party. Alice was his only younger sibling, so she meant a great deal to him. He tried his best to make sure she was safe and secure at all times. When she had gotten her Hogwarts letter, he was over the moon. It was hard enough studying on the other side of the world from his family, but knowing that she would be coming with him this year? It was enough to make him weep with happiness. He loved his nene. Needless to say, she was his favorite.
“I think I’ll be alright if I’m with you-“
“Athena!” Alice’s words were cut short by a woman with long brown hair. Despite her intimidatingly cold exterior, she cheerfully waltzed over to Alice’s older sister, giving her a firm hug before taking all of her attention.
“Tomas!” Kenji called out as Athena and the brown haired woman started a conversation, running towards a man who Alice thought must’ve been named Tomas.
Alice stood in silence, watching her siblings converse with their schoolmates. She knew who these characters were, she had seen pictures. The woman with her sister was Evangeline Greengrass. The man was Kenji’s best mate, Tomas Diggory. Alice always loved meeting new people and making friends. She never had problems with that. But for some reason, now she was frozen. Stuck where she stood. She had stopped paying attention to their words, finding it easier to zone out rather than make an effort to translate.
She pushed her glasses further up the bridge of her nose. Lightly patting the lump in her breast pocket, as it was beginning to stir awake. She took a deep breath, calming her own nerves. There was no turning back. Hogwarts awaits.
The train ride was long and uneventful. Luckily, her siblings were generous enough to abandon their friends and sit with her during the trip. But now they had to part ways. First years had to get to the castle by boat, apparently. They were all instructed to follow a greasy haired gentleman named Gladwin Moon, Hogwarts’ own Caretaker, to the small paddle boats.
“Four to a boat, please,” Caretaker Moon uttered in the midst of the light chaos of the impressionable first years.
Alice found herself sitting in the back of the last boat to leave, next to a rather freckled young man, with fiery red hair. He smiled down at her, a wide smile, the friendliest she’d ever seen.
”Garreth’s the name, Garreth Weasley,” he jutted out his right hand. Alice gingerly placed her hand in his, to which he vigorously shook. “Might I ask yours, small girl?”
“Alice… Morgan,” Alice pulled her hand away. “And if you call me ‘small girl’ again, I’m not responsible for what happens after.”
“Scary. I like you,” Garreth smirked, before launching into a monologue about his whole life story.
“I can’t wait to get on that broom,” the girl in front of Alice boasted. “I can’t wait for Quidditch season. Just you wait, I’ll rule the Slytherin team.”
“First years never make the team, Imelda,” She couldn’t see the man, as he was sitting directly in front of her, but his voice sounded smooth, like caramel.
“Well, there’s a first for everything, Sallow,” the woman by the name of Imelda snapped in response, lifting her chin in the air. “You’ll see.”
“Alice? ALICE!” Garreth shouted in her ear. Alice’s eyes shot to the right. A small squeak came from her breast pocket. Garreth’s gaze fell on it, Alice furrowed her eyebrows at the switch of attention.
A small hamster then peeked out of her pocket, blinking at the freckled man who gasped in response.
“A hamster! Why, that’s brilliant. You were allowed a hamster?” Garreth’s eyes were wide with excitement, grinning down at the small creature. She tilted her little head. “What’s its name?”
“Her name is Mahal,” Alice replied simply, patting her pocket once more.
“Mahal. What a cute name. You know I once had a pet…” his voice drowned out as she took in her surroundings.
Geez, this one talks a lot, she thought to herself. Perhaps he could help her with her English. Force her to study more just to keep up with his stories.
She continued her scan about the lake. These were the people she will attend school with for the next seven years. She analyzed each face carefully until her gaze suddenly halted. Even in the dark of the night, he had managed to catch her eye. He was on her left, two boats away, but she could see him clear as day. Pale skin, light brown hair that looked almost blond in the moonlight. He looked just as nervous as Alice felt at that very moment. He was fidgeting just a tad, but his posture remained perfect. If there was anyone she’d want to meet, it was him. She felt almost drawn to him in a way. Something about him attracted her like never before. He was absolutely breathtaking.
“Alice, this friendship won’t work if we ignore each other.”
”I’m sorry, Garreth,” Alice turned back to him and flashed an apologetic smile. “I’m still learning English.”
“Oh, well,” Garreth grinned. “Guess you’ll learn a lot from me, I’m a talker.”
“And where exactly are you from?” The girl turned to Alice. “It’s not everyday we see a brand new face.”
“I’m from the Philippines…”
“Oh? You’re from the Philippines?” Imelda let out a laugh. “Well, I’m from Spain. I guess that means I own you, doesn’t it?”
Alice’s smile faded. Oh, she didn’t like her.
“Imelda, I’d hate to get detention before I’ve even been sorted into a house, but I’d gladly take my chances if you so choose to continue being a cunt.” The boy by the name of ‘Sallow’ spoke without even as much as a glance in any of their directions.
“Sleep with one eye open tonight, Sebastian Sallow,” Imelda scoffed, folding her arms.
“Oh, I rarely sleep, Imelda Reyes.”
As the rather large group of first years shuffled through the halls to the Great Hall, Alice couldn’t help but notice how large the school was. She couldn’t even imagine knowing her way around such a huge campus. She found herself staring at the pale young man once again as they sat themselves at the front of the great hall. The sorting ceremony was about to begin but all Alice saw was this man. She had been able to get a better look at him this time. The light of the Great Hall revealed a series of beauty marks that peppered the fair skin of his cheeks. They fit him beautifully. Added a well needed accent to his chiseled, yet soft features.
“Ominis Gaunt.”
Alice’s breath hitched. She had admired him for so long, she had missed the instructions. The man stood, taking out his wand. Why did he need his wand? Ominis Gaunt. That was his name? Where had she heard it before? Gaunt. It sounded familiar, but she couldn’t put her finger on it. Alice watched attentively. Watched his every move. She marveled at the way he held his wand. It was as if it was an extension of his hand, one with his arm. He held it so effortlessly, she wanted to be like him. Confident in her magic. The tip of his wand began to flash red. That confused Alice. She couldn’t for the life of her understand what kind of spell that might’ve been. He then began to walk. Right up to that chair and that loud raggedy hat. Whispers erupted from the tables, as well as the first years.
“Ominis Gaunt. Never thought I’d be going to school with a Gaunt.”
“He’ll be a Slytherin for sure, it runs in the family. Where else would he be?”
“Salazar Slytherin is rolling in his grave at the thought of him as his descendant. Pathetic.”
Alice didn’t understand half the words being said and she didn’t care to. She sighed watching as the man thinned his lips in discomfort. Alice had finally taken notice of his eyes. Icy blue. Clouded, milky. Everything clicked for her at that moment. He was blind. That was why he needed his wand. His heightened hearing allowed him to hear the murmurs and mutters coming from the entire hall. That was why he frowned. He was upset but he still looked perfect to Alice.
“SLYTHERIN!” The Sorting Hat shouted to the crowd. As the folks from the Slytherin table cheered.
The woman, whom she had learned was Garreth’s Aunt, Matilda, raised the hat from Ominis Gaunt’s head. In a blink of an eye, she had magiced his plain robes into slytherin robes. Green suited him. Professor Weasley, she had introduced herself, though Alice couldn’t remember when. Just as before, Ominis Gaunt raised his wand and took his seat with the Slytherins. Alice expected them to flock to him like seagulls to beached fish, but they didn’t. Instead they whispered amongst themselves.
“Alice Morgan”
Ominis Gaunt sat up straighter, if that was possible, inhaled slightly. It was as if he was attempting to show his disinterest in anything they had to say about him. She admired it. She had never before let the opinion of others affect her in any sort of way.
I would look good in green, she thought to herself. And she’d be with her sister.
“Alice Morgan?”
Garreth nudged Alice with her elbow.
“It’s your turn, mate.”
Alice averted her eyes from Ominis Gaunt. She stood up quickly.
“Ay! I’m so sorry, Professor,” she hung her head low as she flew up the stairs and plopped onto the stool, surprising Professor Weasley at the rush.
The hat squirmed on her head. It felt like the most uncomfortable feeling. The hat grumbled and mumbled. Her eyes shifted over to the slytherin table, as if she hadn’t gotten enough of him.
“Slytherin,” she whispered to herself. “Please…”
She hoped. She prayed. He sat alone. Let her sit with him. Alone together. The sun and the moon. It was what she wanted.
“Slytherin? You’ve got guts, kid,” the hat boasted atop her head. “No, no. You’ve got courage, a sense of justice. A spark of heroism. You’ve got fire, my girl. You’d do well in GRYFFINDOR.”
Alice released a breath she didn’t know she had held as Professor Weasley pulled the hat off her head. A loud roar erupted from the table on the complete opposite side of the room from the slytherins. This one was decked red. Decorated in ribbons and lions. Before she knew it, her robes had dawned the same color. She was disappointed she wasn’t able to sit with Ominis Gaunt, but the red just felt right. Perfect.
She grinned happily, taking her seat at the table. As she did, everyone wanted to talk to her, she could hardly keep up! The Gryffindors were more welcoming than she could’ve ever imagined. She was so caught up in all the smiling faces, she had almost missed it. A quick glance to her new favorite one showed her that he wasn’t alone. Not anymore. The charming man from the boat had taken his seat right next to him. The young, freckled man was now in green slytherin robes. He was accompanied by a woman who looked quite similar to him in facial features, perhaps a sister. Alice was happy for Ominis Gaunt. She felt if she couldn’t be his friend, it was nice to know that he wouldn’t be alone.
“You sure do stare a lot, don’t you?” Garreth’s voice reached her ears as he sat next to her, now in red gryffindor robes to match his hair.
“Oh! Garreth!” Alice gasped, grinning happily. “We’re in the same house!”
“It was inevitable, really,” Garreth puffed his chest with pride. “Every Weasley gets sorted into Gryffindor.”
“Both my siblings are in different houses,” Alice hummed in response. “Hufflepuff and Slytherin.”
The night was coming to an end, rapidly. Alice had barely gotten a bite from her food before Headmaster Black had dismissed everyone to their respective common rooms. The student body rushed out the doors of the Great Hall. Alice should’ve left with her house, but she didn’t. Instead, she raced to the other side of the room. Wanting desperately to meet this ominous man who was named just as he was.
“Ominis! Watch out!” Said that charming man. A thump, followed by the clank of a small wooden object falling to the floor, was all Alice heard.
She was surprised at how fast her body reacted to the situation. She swiftly grabbed the wand and hurriedly helped the man to his feet, placing the wand back in his hand. The man hummed in response. She swore it was the sweetest sound she had ever heard.
“I’m grateful not all Slytherins are coldhearted individuals,” Ominis Gaunt expressed his gratitude with a small smile. “Thank you.”
Sebastian Sallow and the girl Alice would soon come to know as Anne Sallow, exchanged looks.
“Might I ask your name?”
“Oh- um…” Alice’s cheeks grew red. Never did she think he would be so kind hearted. She was at a loss for words. He looked perfect, and sounded just so.
“Oh, don’t be shy now, it appears we’ve already broken the ice. Or rather, I’ve fallen through it,” Ominis Gaunt chuckled at his own little joke. “Silly of me to ask for a name without first giving one. I’m Ominis. Ominis Gaunt… Now it’s your turn.”
“Ominis, she’s actually-“ Anne had begun, but Alice lifted her hand, stopping her.
“It’s alright. There’s been a misunderstanding,” Alice smiled. “I’m not a Slytherin, I’m a Gryffindor.”
“Not a Slytherin?” His smile faded, he furrowed his eyebrows. Venom in his voice. It shocked Alice. “Then why are you here?”
“I… wanted to meet you,” Her voice was soft.
“Oh, I understand,” His sarcasm pierced through the tension. “Go meet the Blind Gaunt. The runt Gaunt. Maybe I can save him and he’ll obey me like a dog. Run along, Lion. We’ve no business with you here.”
He spat his words. Said ‘lion’ as if it was an insult. Alice was beside herself. How could one’s personality switch so fast and drastically? Anne offered an apologetic glance.
“See you around, Alice,” The Sallow man said as he pushed his new friend away and to the doors. All the while, Ominis muttered nasty things under his breath.
Alice stood in silence, watching them leave. Only one word floated in her mind. Oh…
“Alice, there you are,” Garreth had managed to find her once again. “I’ve been meaning to ask, can I call you Ali? I think Ali is a wonderful nickname. Are you alright? You look a bit blue.”
Alice nodded in response.
“Well, then,” He nudged her to begin walking. “I suppose we’ll have to find our common room alone.”
Alice had surprisingly been able to find all her classes for her first day. It was relatively easy when she had a Man with her who knew the castle as if it was his second home. Getting on Garreth’s good side had its perks. Alice had been in a slightly better mood this afternoon, as opposed to the night before. She noticed that Ominis had been in a lot of her classes, always sitting off in a corner. She doubted he’d noticed she was in any of them, since she rarely talked. Though she doubted he’d even bothered to listen if she did.
“I am excited for potions,” Garreth stated, his signature smile plastered on his face. “I happen to be quite the wiz at potions.”
“Is that so?” Alice asked, walking into their classroom. “Isn’t it just following a recipe?”
“Oh, my sweet, Ali,” Garreth smirks. “I never follow recipes.”
“Mr. Weasley, Ms. Morgan, how nice of you to join us,” Professor Sharp, the potions professor, groaned. “Please make an effort to be on time, our next meeting, would you?”
“Sorry about that, Professor, we were just snogging in the halls,” Garreth joked, throwing an arm around Alice. “You know how it is.”
“I would never,” Alice laughed, pushing him off.
“Enough. Sit down.”
Alice raced to the nearest empty seat she could find. She plopped down with a huff, taking out her notebook. She began jotting down notes, but it was very easy for her mind to wander. Ominis. He had occupied her thoughts all day. She could barely pay attention in classes. All she did was think of him, stare at him. It was beginning to become her favorite pastime. She loved tracing his meticulously styled hair with her eyes. The little swoop the strands did fascinated her. His jaw was perfectly carved. It was as if he was sculpted by the gods. And she didn’t mind. She thanked Merlin, she even existed at the same time as such a being. His eyes were breathtakingly beautiful. Though they were milky, they were absolutely full of life. Full of spirit. His tongue was sharp, spouting daggers at anyone who’d listen. And who could forget those beauty marks. Perfectly placed like spots on a butterfly. Each mark had its own purpose, a reason for being there. Before she knew it, she had drawn him again. She cursed under her breath. That was the 5th one already! And it was only the first day. She sighed, as she moved to shut her notebook. But before she could, it flew across the room, right into the hands of Professor Sharp.
He examined the notebook with a raised eyebrow. Then looked back at her, using a levitation charm to send it back to her, shutting it as it was placed on her desk.
“I would advise you not to spend all your time in my class, drawing your partner, Miss Morgan. We have plenty to do as is.”
Partner? She looked to her right, there sat her muse. Just a foot away from her. He sat, running his hand over the specially made braille textbook he had received. She admired his hands, it was the first time she had seen them up close. They were just as pale as his face, lightly peppered in the same beauty marks. She wondered if he was covered in beauty marks. Her eyes shamelessly scanned him. She couldn’t help it, he was just so…
“You are aware I do not need to possess the ability to see to feel your eyes on me,” Ominis spat, his fingers halted on the page. “You’ve been gawking at me like a child in a zoo since we stepped foot into Hogwarts.”
“I’m sorry,” Alice cleared her throat, looking away. “I just-“
“Ah, I suspected it was you,” Ominis cut her off. He smirked to himself. “Gryffindor.”
“You say that as if it’s an insult,” Alice replied, not offended by his words, just curious.
“It is, you’re insufferable.”
“You’ve only just met me.”
“I can already tell.”
“My name’s Alice by the way,” she smiled warmly.
“I didn’t ask for it.”
“You seemed to really want it before.”
Ominis’ cheeks glowed a very faint pink as he looked away. “That was before you opened your mouth, Miss Alice.”
Her name from his mouth. It sounded like heaven. His voice was soft and gentle. How could someone so effortlessly capture her heart in such a short amount of time. She was wrapped around Ominis’ glowing red wand within 24 hours. She had just met him. What was she to do?
Above all else, she wanted to be his friend.

Hello....If you don't mind me asking, who are your favorite romantic relationship's couples in books/ manga/manhwa/ anime/movies/tv series (can be canon or non-canon)? Sorry if you've answered this question before....Thanks.
@elaine2895, thanks for your ask! Unfortunately, I have an unsatisfactory answer for you.
At least right now, I don't have any favourite romantic relationships. I'm at this odd place where I'm enjoying stories about relationships, but don't having any specific favourites, if that makes sense.
These are some romantic relationships I've enjoyed this year of the shows I've completed:

Motherfucker
Summary: You know that saying 'Never judge a book by its cover'? Well apply it to what happens in the bedroom and that's the fic. OR people assume the roles of the, ahem, significantly taller people in the relationship. Things get revealed after a certain curse word is uttered
Relationships: Yakulev, Sugakage and Moniwa x Futakuchi
You know the saying, ‘never judge a book by its cover? Well, it applied very well in these situations.
See, when some people had announced their relationship everyone had already thought about the, ahem, arrangements of the relationship. Mostly who tops and who bottoms.
And due to some people being kinda close-minded they had all, in what they had thought, rightfully assumed that the taller people in the relationships were the tall ones. Think again.
The couples knew what everyone thought and they didn't bother correcting them, not wanting to embarrass themselves or the others. The Bottoms thought it was funny at the beginning but they slowly stopped thinking so for 2 reasons.
It had made them that due to their height they couldn't be the one on the receiving end and looked after which had lead to a bunch of cuddling
And two it was because it ended up with them getting railed into next week. After all, the tops were incredibly possessive
One day, however, everyone found out who the actual tops were in the relationship. One thing was for sure, the curse ‘motherfucker’ was from now on prohibited to be said.
~Moniwa x Futakuchi~
“Motherfucker!” yelled Kamasaki in pain, holding his broken pinky in his hand.
“You called?” asked Futakuchi, always the cheeky little delinquent. Too bad it backfired.
Everyone had turned to Moniwa, expecting him to look flustered but instead, he smiled serenely which immediately put Kenji on edge and answered with a sweet tone.
“Now, doll. Don't go spreading around things or you'll get punished k bunny”
It was silent as everyone tried to absorb what was said until Kamasaki doubled in laughter, his laugh sounding closer to a witches cackle in Kenji’s opinion.
“Pffft, ha! So Futakuchi is a subby bottom, eh?” he asked, wiping away tears of mirth from his eyes as he looked Futakuchi up and down as if he was seeing him for the first time.
“S-shut up, Kamasaki-san!” Kenji cursed his stutter but cursed his annoyance of a boyfriend even more. Why did he have to have such a big mouth? Just why?
You know what? No! He wasn't going to blame himself because a totally inaccurate word was said! Absolutely not! If anything, it was Kamasakis fault for saying it in the first place!
Whilst he was cursing away at his senpai he felt an arm wrap around him and he almost jumped a foot up in the air.
“You okay?” whispered Moniwa, concern clear in his voice.
“Yeah. Just annoyed that Kamasaki was the one who ended up revealing it.” answered Kenji, leaning in his boyfriend's arms, feeling content.
“Wanna come over to my place and cuddle? We can even watch your favourite and eat sour gummies.” wheeled Moniwa as if his offer to cuddle hadn't convinced Kenji as it was.
He would have gladly slipped practice to hang out with his boyfriend but Kamasaki had to open his mouth again.
“Yo, so like whilst you two are cute and all, my hand still hurts like a bitch!” Kenji was really amazed at his patience if he hadn't already punched his idiot of a senpai yet.
“Since when did I care?” voiced Kenji and immediately closed his eyes when Kamasaki began bitching at him even as Nametsu began dragging him away. He jumped a little when he felt a hand on his ass and inwardly whimpered when he saw the look in his boyfriend's eyes.
“Whilst I do think it was time for the actual status of our relationship to be revealed,” began Moniwa, voice hushed as everyone else in the team began conversing among themselves. “You being a cheeky brat can't go unpunished sweetheart. Expect punishment, k doll?” and the actual asshole had the nerve to wink before walking away to Sakunami to correct him on his receiving.
‘Guess it wasn't going to be movie night for a long time. This was all Kamasaki’s fault’ thought Kenji as he began to mentally prepare himself for the night to come.
~Sugawara x Kageyama~
“Motherfucker!” yelled Nishinoya as he crumbled to the floor.
“Yeah?” Everyone went quiet, not expecting the raven to respond. However, it seemed that the setter strongly regretted saying what he just said as he stared at his silver-haired boyfriend.
When Suga smiled they all smirked, thinking that he was going to say something along the lines of ‘Nothing for you tonight!’ or ‘Kageyama! Don't be so vulgar’. Absolutely none of that was anywhere near as close as to what was said.
“So that's how you wanna play it, baby? Wanna see how long you can go again? Can't wait to play with your hole again!” Suga then stood up and walked out of the gym, to go to the clubroom and to go collect himself, not even bothering to see what chaos he created on his way out.
It was silent until Tsukishima, of course, broke it.
“So king, what type of things does your boyfriend punish you for? Because I sure as hell want to tell him about the shit you've been doing.” that smirk really made his face punchable.
“Go burn,” Kageyama growled but the effect was ruined by the bright blush on his cheeks.
“I'm not the one going to hell here. But I'm sure if we get you and Sugawara-san some holy water it might be able to save you. Unless you both have a thing for-” he ducked just in time to avoid getting hit with the volleyball as Kageyama stormed out of the gym.
“No fucking in the clubroom!” yelled Nishinoya behind him and they could hear the embarrassed ‘shut up’ from the raven.
‘Great. Now I'm going to have to skip practice and wake up to my body being sore as fuck. This is all Nishinoya's fault!’
~Yaku x Lev~
“Motherfucker!” yelled Yamamoto as Kuroo blocked another one of his spikes.  His team had officially lost the three on three match and coincidentally it had been the same time that practice finished.
“Yeah? You called?” Lev regretted the words before they even came out of his mouth, face paling even more than he had thought possible.
Everyone sniggered, thinking that Lev had paled because Lev was going to kick his ass. And like they weren't wrong, but they weren't exactly right either.
They had all turned to see Yaku in demon-senpai mode but that's not what they saw. No, instead they saw the libero with a vindictive smirk on his face. They were even more shocked when he just swaggered over to Lev and wrapped an arm around his waist, his hand landing in his ass. They all felt their Jaws drop when Yaku spoke.
“So I'm guessing it's going to be 20 lashes, k baby? See you later.” and Yaku had the actual audacity to walk away, especially after slapping Lev’s ass, the sound echoing in the silent gym.
Lev thanked his remaining lucky stars that the coaches weren't in the gym. He already felt the need to die because his teammates knew about his sex life, he didn't need the coaches to know it either.
“So, Lev,” began Kuroo, smirking at the boy that made the rest of Nekoma shiver.
“No. I am not doing this today.” declared Lev, already going to the clubroom. Thankfully, nobody bothered calling him back to clean up. His only blessing. Or so he thought.
“Since we are so kindly allowing you to miss clean up time you can run a whole lap around the gym!” and Kuroo better be grateful that Lev was such a nice human being and that he couldn't punch his upperclassmen because otherwise, Lev would have decked him in the face ages ago.
‘This was all Yamamoto’s fault and his unneeded urge to curse at everything.’ thought Lev as he walked in the clubroom to see his boyfriend smiling evilly, holding his hand out for him to take.

Self indulgent series part 1
At home where everything seems fine
(Kenji x female reader, first perspective) (This story was originally written for me about me, which is why it’s called the self indulgent series. But because I’ve written so god damn much I decided to edit it a little, edit some things out as well etc and share some of it with you, I hope you’ll enjoy it!)
The horrors were over.
Where day after day, week after week we had to fight for our survival.
It was finally over.
Setting foot on land was a dream come true for us all, though it was also a heart wrenching goodbye as we went off home.
We had longed for home for so long, but we had also found a family in our new friends.
I especially felt that Kenji took the goodbye hard. Maybe even the hardest.
After all this time I knew all too well, that despite all the wealth he has, despite all the things he owns and the comfort he enjoys in life, there was no family he was going home to.
He was an only child with no known mother in the picture and an absent father. It tore me apart as I had to release him from the tight hug he had me in. It was the kind of hug that begged you to never let go. But I had to. My family was waiting. I had that luck.
I turned around with pain in my heart for him but the utmost joy as I saw my parents and siblings with tears in their eyes, seeing their long-lost daughter and sister alive and well.
I felt infinite warmth as they brought me into their embrace and we finally went home.
Before going home, we had told each other’s socials (none of us remembered our phone number after all that time) so we would stay in touch.
In the beginning we would talk to each other every day whenever possible for us. We all had a hard time especially when it came to getting into daily school life again, since we had to start over with the grade we had already started and thus weren’t with our old friends again, who had on top of that moved on as they had thought we had died and thus it was hard to reconnect.
Luckily, we all somehow found new connections again (many people took pity in us for what we had lived through) and we could move on.
As we did, so did our chatting.
No: of course, we didn’t lose contact. We were all a second family to each other and there was no way in hell we’d ever be able to live without each other ever again. Not after what we’ve been through.
We however lost the need to tell each other every little thing and could live on our own. Much like when a child moves out from their parent’s house. The child is used to seeing their parent every single day so the parents (if they are good parents that is) will feel the need that the child writes them every day and the child will feel the need to write and connect every day. But as they learn to be independent, they will lose their need to be connected to their parent and the parents will start trusting the child and not need them to write every day or all the time.
That was the case with us all: Except when it came to Kenji and me.
As unbelievable as it would’ve seemed in the past, we both became best friends. We would send each other stupid memes and laugh about animal videos and Tiktok or vine compilations on Youtube, or, on the other hand of the spectrum, we’d talk through the nightmares we sometimes had about what we lived through and the permanent trauma our time in Jurassic World had caused us. Somehow, we felt the most comfortable talking to each other about that as well as laughing about the same things.
We seemed to have a similar psyche, despite him being extroverted whilst I was introverted and him acting like a jerk to appear cool, whilst I would often refrain from talking and try to appear cold so people wouldn’t know who I was.
But on the insight, when you’d look past that outer shell, it turns out we are very similar people with very similar views. Kind of an opposites attract thing where we both had qualities that we both could benefit from and grow together as a person whilst holding the same principals and morals.
Though quicker than I could blink, that opposites attract thing turned into a huge, massive, enormous, gigantic crush.
I should’ve known that this would happen. Right after I figured it out for myself, I just had to groan. I had always found him very pretty, though I would’ve never admitted that: He had enough of an ego, I didn’t need to feed into that act any more than necessary.
During our adventurous time on the dino-island, I hadn’t had too much time to think about my own feelings. But now that I was safe again in my comfortable home, I had finally realized my dreaded crush.
I didn’t dread it, because it was him. I didn’t even dread it too much because we didn’t live in the same place (though that was quite annoying too). I dreaded it mostly, because of the simple fact that I probably wasn’t his type. And I hated that my first deep friendship with a boy had turned my head upside down after all. But he was just too beautiful not to crush on.
Or maybe I was even in love.
And so, I kept on dreading it, until one crazy day.
I was exiting my school around lunch time on Friday, idly chatting with a bunch of my newfound friends, when I detected a helicopter on the schoolyard.
“No way”, I whispered
“Might that be your little rich boyfriend?”, one of my girl friends asked me teasingly
“Oh shut it”, I gave her a jab in the side but had to giggle nonetheless.
And indeed, it was him. I mean: What other person would make such a grand arrival on a schoolyard?
Kenji had seemed to have detected me and got out of the helicopter.
“Y/Nnnnnnn”, Kenji yelled, stretching my name as he did
“Kenji!”, I screamed back and ran into his arms he opened wide for a loving embrace.
I didn’t care that everyone was looking or that they thought we both were lovers and that this might be a tad bit embarrassing and overboard: I had missed him too much to give a damn.
“Kenj’ my dude, what are you doing here?”, I asked, getting out of our embrace to take a good look at him. He was well dressed and styled as always.
“Sightseeing”, he answered with a sarcastic undertone which made me raise an eyebrow (I of course knew why he was here, it was a rhetorical question), “…Visiting you of course”, he explained anyways, “can’t I miss my best friend?”, he asked and I could feel my cheeks grow red.
Yes… best friend.
“Of course,”, I smiled back, “I missed you too, ya dingus. Though why did you come with the helicopter? Don’t you think it’s a little…much?”
“Well first of all: No, never. Secondly: It’s faster to fly here with the heli, and thirdly: I talked to your parents and they agreed you can come to my crib for the weekend”
“Really? You’re not messing with me?!”
“I swear”, he said, lifting his hand to make the swearing sign to show his uncrossed fingers, “and if you still don’t believe me you can just check your phone”, he added as he had pledged is truthfulness.
I tucked it out of my backpack and there it was: A message from my mom wishing me a good time over at Kenji’s. Plus informing me she had packed me a little luggage that Kenji already had in his helicopter. I wrote her thanks and a heart before facing Kenji again with a content smile.
“Ok then: What are we waiting for? Let’s go!”, I laughed, “Later you guys!”, I turned around to my friends who were giving me cheeky smiles and a thumbs up.
The flight lasted three hours in total. Though it felt like no time at all as Kenji and I caught up on things. And even when we were done with that, we found a way to talk about anything and nothing at all or sometimes even just sit there in a comfortable silence and looking out of the window. I had never flown in a helicopter and was in constant awe of it all. Kenji had made a little bit fun of that and called it “cute” which however made me fluster more than anything else. Him calling anything I do cute just made the butterflies in my stomach swirl like crazy.
We arrived on top of a huge roof that had a designated helicopter landing spot.
“Wow damn. Your house really is big!”
“Y/N: That’s the helicopter Garage”
“WHAT”
As we got out a tall man in a black suit, who carried my luggage, accompanied us through a trap door on the ground down to a huge hall with several helicopters in different colors and sizes.
My mouth was wide agape as I looked at it all.
“And where in the ever-loving f*ck is your real house then?”, I asked
“We are gonna be brought there by the limo in a sec”, he explained as casually as someone saying they were going grocery shopping.
Though that was probably more unusual for anyone in his family than it was for me to drive in a limousine.
We got out of the garage and waited on a small patio. Only a couple of seconds after we had exited, surely enough, a pitch black, perfectly cleaned limo appeared. A chauffeur exited the driver side opening the door, way in the back, “welcome Sir Kenji and Madame. Please enter”, he said in a very British accent and motioned us to get into the car.
“Wow” is all I could say at first but then could muster up a “thank you” without sounding too flabbergasted.
The drive from the helicopter Garage to the actual house (if you could call it that) was only a couple of minutes, but boy what a couple of minutes!
I was looking out of the window yet again. This time I was looking at a huge, very well groomed, garden. It had huge rose bushes, ponds with statues spewing water, a maze… just like you’d imagine the garden of a king to look like.
“Kenji: This is batshit insane. You live in a freaking palace!”, I exclaimed.
“Well: Did you think I was exaggerating when I said I was filthy rich?”
“Yes! Kinda!”, I answered, feeling my voice heighten, still not being able to process the sight before me, “it’s hard to believe that people can live like that”.
At that he just laughed, and we kept on just enjoying our company in silence.
 And finally, we truly arrived.
We were let out again by the chauffeur. As I exited, I noticed a red carpet being rolled out in front of me.
I turned to Kenji arching an eyebrow at him.
“A red carpet? Really?”
“What? I just wanted the lady to feel welcome”, he grinned, and I couldn’t but laugh and feel my cheeks redden again.
I everted my eyes from his, because of how flustered I got, but mostly to look at the house… or well: Mansion.
It was a very modern construction. Mostly white and looking futuristic. It was the kind of construction you’d expect a man, owning one or the other huge corporation, to have.
It was almost a disappointing contrast to the old seeming garden, but it was impressive nonetheless. I felt like I had jumped forward in time to the year 2030 or something.
After analyzing the mansion for a bit, we walked towards the dark gray double door that was opened by what seemed to be a sort of butler.
I was now faced with the entrance hall. It was all paved with a grave shiny stone and had a big, golden chandelier on the exaggeratedly high ceiling. In the back of the hall were two gray stairways going up to the left and right with glass barriers. On the front were clothe holders made of ebony wood and hanging hooks made out of fine steel.
“If this visit gets anymore incredible, I’m gonna faint”, I whispered
“Please don’t, ‘cause it will get better, but I’m glad you like it”, he whispered back, and I giggled like a little schoolgirl.
Honestly, I could go on and on about everything he showed me in that building, but that would probably be twenty pages long, so I’m going to summarize with bullet points:
 ·      The west wing, like in Beauty and the Beast, is off limits: Except it’s because Kenji’s father was working there and harboring some kinda lab or something. A little shady if you ask me but I didn’t further question that
·      The east wing is full of fun rooms: A swimming pool room, a swimming pool patio outside together with a Shakuzi, a small private cinema room and of course, deep down in the cellar (at least he calls it that, for me it feels more like a casino), the bowling alley.
We spent the most time there, playing round after round where I didn’t let him win. Funny enough (though not the haha kind of funny) he almost cried tears of joy as he lost against me
·      The middle part, one could say, had the entrance hall, the kitchen, as well as the living room that had a ginormous couch and a huge 3D Tv with a Nintendo, Xbox and the newest Playstation. We played a couple of games in which I always lost because my parents never allowed me to have a gaming console and thus I was a bit inexperienced with most of the games, except in the case of U-sing: I played that with my ex best friend from primary school when we were little, plus I have a good voice whilst Kenji, well… he could work on his vocals. We however had fun either way.
·      And the third segment is the upper rooms with three bathrooms (one of which was Kenji’s), a spa room, a sauna and the bedrooms (that were strangely far apart from each other. A very bad gut feeling told me, that was on purpose).
As we arrived in Kenji’s room, I already saw my small red suitcase laying on the white, very comfortable looking carpet. It was one of those carpets with the long white fur like texture. I sometimes wondered what hid amongst the long fur, but knew in Kenji’s case, this room was kept squeaky clean by his father’s staff so I wouldn’t have to worry about that.
‘The guy cares a little I guess’, I thought as my thoughts wandered to Kenji’s father.
Kenji’s room itself indicated no personality at all. It was extremely odd. It looked like it came right out of a magazine. It had a big bed (usually such a bed a married couple in their 40’s would have), a white, of course, big wardrobe, a black colored dresser with a less impressive, yet still pretty modern Tv and another small dresser beside the bed, that had a very boring looking nighttime lamp on it where you could regulate the light by tapping on the bottom part. And a couple of steps away, parallel to the entrance door, was a big glass wall with an integrated door which led to a wooden balcony that had a small table, two chairs and a sun-umbrella.
‘Or maybe’, I continued the thought from before, ‘he simply cares about his son’s image’.
“Nice room”, I said, so it wouldn’t seem suspicious that I wasn’t as exited this time about what I saw. But I hate hiding the truth and when I try doing what I hate, I don’t come off as a good liar. So, one can imagine: He noticed my hesitation.
“Is something wrong y/n?”, he asked, genuinely concerned, “is there something in here you don’t like? I can remove-“
“No”, I interrupted him, “there is nothing wrong with it. That’s just the thing: It’s immaculate”
“And why is that… bad?”, he asked a bit confused. Not angry confused, but just plain old confused. I felt sorry for him: I simply just think too deeply about things sometimes.
“It’s not bad”, I answered, “I’d just say its extremely weird: Don’t you have any posters you wanna hang up? Or pictures? Photographies of memories with your friends? Books or magazines you like to have at your bedside? It’s just: You have so much personality, I sometimes fear you’ll implode if you fail to show it even for a second. I can’t imagine that you don’t want to decorate your room in any way at all”
“But what if I do?”, Kenji asked, though his confused expression had turned into a cold glare that made me wish he would look confused again. I felt a lump built in my throat and my heart race in fear. Not because I was scared of him: But more so of what he was trying to hide by pretending.
“Kenji”, I said softly, letting a concerned frown adorn my face, “it’s ok. I’m your best friend. You can talk to me about it. And before you ask: I know what this is all about as much as you know that I know. But I won’t say it because at the end of the day, it’s your choice, but just know: I’m there for you, I won’t judge”
There was a moment of deafening silence as Kenji seemed to contemplate whether he should react defensive and angry, that I brought it up, or tell the truth.
I was glad when I could visibly see his guard drop as he looked at me with saddened eyes.
It was heartbreaking, but I’d rather have that than a stupid fight. I’d rather have that, than him being arrogant and prideful, trying to push me away as he had in the very beginning in Jurassic World.
He sat down on his bed, and I right beside him, looking at him concerned as he stared on the floor.
“You’re right: It is because of my father.”, he began, “You see: He wants me to become like him. Keep the business going. I’m like the first born to a king. And so, he decided there was no room for me to be too much of an individual at some point. He wanted not only the house to always look presentable in case one of his strange buddies appeared, but also for me to start being presentable. It only got worse after I failed algebra. He pushed the role of being him more.
My father might not be the worst: He does gift me a lot of things, makes sure my room is clean and that I get transported to whatever place I want with whatever vehicle I want and buys me whatever I desire. But it’s a disguise, you see? Trying to cover up that I’m just a trophy. Just the predecessor. He wants me to favor and admire him so that I will be him one day. He doesn’t care about me like a dad cares about his son. We are no family”, his voice got quiet as he tried hiding his tears. I said nothing and decided to just embrace him. I felt him become weak in my arms and sob so touchingly, I almost cried with him.
A few minutes passed before his crying became hiccups and eventually quieted down.
“I’m sorry”, I murmured, “I shouldn’t have brought this up”
“No”, he answered, his voice still veiled in a layer of sadness, “it felt good. I haven’t cried like this in years. Thank you”
“You’re welcome”, I softly spoke back. I was glad he had relieved himself of that sadness he had seemed to hold in. I also immediately felt that this had also been the thing to finally have us come closer.
After that, we figured we watch something lighthearted to cheer us up again.
It was a rom com called ‘L.A. story’ we both found very amusing.
Though at some point, as the love story came to its highpoint, I noticed my mind drifting away into a side space in my brain, where suddenly the main characters were him and me.
My cheeks reddened for the third time that day (I almost feared he’d think I got a fever) and I could swear I felt his hand in mine… wait.
Was that real?
My gaze travelled from the screen to my hand and really: His hand was in mine.
Was that an accident or intentional?
‘Screw it! It’s now or never’, I thought as I felt daring for once.
I inched closer and leaned onto his shoulder. My heart was racing a hundred miles per hour it seemed as I waited for what his reaction would be. At first, he got stiff, but then everything happened at once and it happened fast. He lifted his head to look at me and I looked back into his deep, dark brown eyes and in one motion he leaned in and… kissed me.
At first, I couldn’t believe it, I was frozen in place, but soon enough before it could get awkward for him, I leaned in as well. Though I decided to just stay put and let my lips feel his carefully: It was my first kiss after all, I didn’t want to ruin it by getting sloppy.
We staid like that for a couple of seconds before deciding to part.
“You like me too?”, is the first thing I asked, amazed by what just happened.
“What are you talking about? I’ve liked you since I saw you! You are the one who likes me too”, he answered. My eyes first widened but then I couldn’t but laugh out loud.
“And I always thought I wasn’t your type”, I admitted flustered at his words.
“Really? You are a pretty, talented girl with a super nice personality and you didn’t think you were my type?”
“I mean, I always assumed you’d be more into the mermaid type”, at that he raised an eyebrow and let out a sigh with a single laugh
“You are mermaid enough for me y/n”, he said, cupping my face with his right hand, putting a hair strand behind my right ear, “you are better, even”

Akaashi Keiji x Reader (Royal AU): You can’t marry a man you just met… unless it’s for the sake of your kingdom
Requested: No
Pairing: Akaashi Keiji x Fem!Reader (Royal AU)
Summary: “Your father and brother are dead." "Drat!" said the Prince Princess, "That means I shall have to get married.”
Nah, I’m kidding, that’s a rewritten quote from ‘The Princess Bride’. You were simply a princess engaged to a man you have never met. Little did you know, the prince was by far more charming than you had expected him to be.
Warnings: Fluff, and trash writing
Other: Am I selfish for being self-indulgent and writing for my own joy and satisfaction? I hope this doesn’t come off as a disappointment… also I may or may not have been watching clips of the Princess Bride as I wrote this </3
Word count: 2,700
Things you probably wanna know, for all you ‘x reader’ illiterates:
(Y/N): Your Name
(H/C): Hair Colour / Color
(E/C): Eye Colour / Color
(N/N): Nickname
 ***
“Chin up, (Y/N)! A princess never slouches,” Your mother snapped for the nth time as you sat sulkily in the royal carriage.
“Even if I wanted to, the corset you forced on me makes it impossible to breathe, let alone slouch.” You grumbled, your arms beginning to ache as you held the book you were reading in front of your face.
Your mother let out a sigh in frustration. “You ought to be on your best behaviour when we enter the Kingdom of Airiral. You should know that they were looking forward to your arrival.”
“Well they should know that I’m not looking forward to meet them,” you said, not sparing her a glance.
“(Y/N)!” Your mother scowled at your answer. “Put that book down right this instant young lady. What would your father think…”
“If father was alive, I wouldn’t be in this situation,” Your heart ached at your own words and you delved deeper into your own imagination.
A few hours later (you could have sworn it had only been a few minutes), the coachman had knocked on your side of the carriage. “Your majesties, we have arrived in the Kingdom or Airiral.”
Gratefully taking the coachman’s hand, you climbed off the carriage. “Thank you.”
You made your way towards the horses and gave them each a small pat on the head. As you did, you looked up to see the huge palace that stood before you. Even though you lived in a castle yourself, it was still a sight to see palaces of different kingdoms. Each palace and castle was made differently with different layouts and towers – this one was by far the most impressive.
“The Kingdom of Airiral is famous for its grand architecture,” the coachman said from beside you. “I’ve been here a few times myself and I don’t think I can get enough of it.”
“It’s straight out of a fantasy book,” you breathed, entranced by the limestone bricks that towered over you, and the dark coloured roof stood out against the brilliant blue sky. “You wouldn’t happen to know if it has a library, do you?”
“Apparently, the royal library is the most brilliant in all the land,” he said, “but those are just rumours. I haven’t been inside myself!”
You nodded, thanking him for the information, before catching up with your mother who was already well away from you. “You couldn’t have waited for a little moment?”
“It is a royal’s priority to always be on time.”
“Or in your case, always fashionably late,” you grumbled. “Anyway, who am I betrothed to again?”
“His name is Akaashi Keiji. He’s a bright young man, I assure you.”
You scoffed, “He can’t be worse than Suguru Daishou that slimy snake…”
“(Y/N)! How many times have I told you to not talk about people like that?” Your mother let out yet another frustrated groan at your words and you cheekily stuck your tongue out.
“It’s not my fault he is what he is. Besides, you didn’t care much for him either.”
“We were wondering when you would be arriving!”
You both looked up to see a kind man and woman standing at the palace gates, bright smiles on their faces.
“Kenji, Miyoko, it’s great to see you again!” Your mother beamed. “How are you?”
“We’re getting there,” Miyoko said, her brilliant blue eyes glistening in the sunlight. “This must be (Y/N)!”
Her husband nodded from beside her, “Well, you are certainly a beautiful young lady. Please, come in! We’ll have the servants take your bags.”
“Bags…?” You frowned, turning to your mother who had looked away guiltily. “Mother, I wasn’t aware that I will be staying here.”
“It’s a tradition here,” Kenji cut in, “it gives the young bride and groom to get to know each other before the wedding.”
You nodded, muttering quietly to yourself, “If there even is a wedding.”
“Speaking of groom,” your mother began slowly, and Miyoko and Kenji’s eyes both lit up in realisation.
“He should be here soon. He was training in the morning so I assume he’ll be getting ready.”
As if it was staged, a tall man walked into the courtyard, brilliant blue eyes almost identical to his mother’s.
“Mother, father, I apologise for my tardiness,” He did a bow in respect, and your brows rose at his politeness.
“Oh, don’t worry about it, Keiji. As long as you’re here now, yes?” His father chuckled, clapping him on the back as he rose. “Now, this is (L/N) (Y/N) from the Aedurene Kingdom in the East.”
You rolled your eyes, offering a half-assed curtsey much to your mother’s annoyance. You don’t miss the way the corners of Keiji’s lips rise in amusement. Ah, so he does have a sense of humour. In return, he sent a half-assed bow in your direction and you chuckled lightly.
“Now that the formalities have been made… Aneko?”
As soon as Miyoko said her name, a maid rushed into the courtyard, a bright smile on her face as she curtseyed to the queen and then to you. “Come, Princess, I shall escort you to your room.”
“Oh, uh, right. Of course, thank you.” A gentle smile rested on your face because, well, etiquette is important right?
“How was the ride here, your majesty?” Aneko asked carefully.
You shook your head, “Please, drop the formalities. Just call me (Y/N), I really don’t mind. And the ride here was… uneventful. How is it working for the royal family?”
“Average,” she shrugged, “I’ve been working here for years now to provide for my family.”
 “Do they pay well?”
“Well enough.” After a few more turns, she stopped at an arced birch door. “This is your room! You should find that all of your bags are already inside and have been unpacked. Let me know if there are any changes you would like to be made, your majesty.”
“(Y/N),” you corrected before nodding, “Thank you very much, Aneko.”
You carefully closed the door behind you, and you let out a tired sigh. Well, you’re in a foreign kingdom engaged to a random prince that you know nothing about. You sat on the chair by the vanity set, loosening your corset so that it wasn’t crushing your body. Can the day get any worse?
“Princess (Y/N)? Are you in there?”
A groan left your lips. Apparently, it can.
“No, this is the cat,” you responded sarcastically, opening your book to the bookmarked page.
“Last I checked, I was engaged to a woman,” Akaashi responded, and you could hear the amusement in his voice. “May I enter?”
“Sure,” You said offhandedly, not paying much attention to the man. “To what do I owe the honour, my prince?”
“Please, call me Keiji. And I merely wanted to check that you have settled in well,” his gunmetal blue eyes looked over your figure. “I see you enjoy reading?”
You looked up at him for a split second before turning your attention back to the book. “Is it that surprising that you have to question it?”
“Most princesses that I have met would prefer to frolic around or stare at their reflection all day,” he admitted.
“Well in that case, I am not like other princesses.”
He was silent for a moment before asking, “What book are you reading?”
“The Princess Bride,” you said, “one of my father’s favourite books. He used to read it to us when we were children.”
“Oh?” He nodded, taking note to find the book later. “Perhaps you would like to visit our library.”
At his words, you looked up at him, scanning his face for any cheek or sarcasm. You found that there was none.
“Is it as grand as everyone believes it is?” You asked, putting your bookmark in and closing the book in your hands.
“I didn’t take you one to believe rumours, Princess,” He smirked at you and you rolled your eyes. Of course, it was too good to be true.
“Just call me (Y/N), Keiji,” You drawled, returning the smirk (you were quite sure you didn’t look half as good as he did, but it was worth a shot).
He chuckled in amusement, and you let out a small laugh of your own. Rising from your chair, you sent him a smile. “Well? Are you still going to take me to the library?”
 ***
You moved the soup in your bowl around with your spoon, watching as the white cream mixed with the orange of the pumpkin. To say you were uncomfortable was an understatement. Your mother was laughing and talking with the king and queen, leaving you to question just how much longer dinner will last.
“Please, my daughter is probably the most troublesome princess out there,” Your mother chuckled as she took a small sip of her wine.
The only thing you could do was shoot her an offended glare and pray that she wouldn’t say anything else. Unfortunately, the supreme deities would not listen to you.
“She’s stubborn and ungraceful in all aspects of her life. She’s hard-headed, scoffs at tradition-”
“If you keep talking, mother, perhaps they’ll call the engagement off,” you shot her a sly smile. “Please, do keep going.”
Akaashi let out a small cough from beside you, and you weren’t sure if he choked on his water or if he was masking a laugh. His parents seemed to enjoy your little comment and let out little giggles of their own while your mother rolled her eye in amusement and frustration.
“She’s witty,” Kenji chuckled, “at least she’s not boring, isn’t that right, love?”
 “Absolutely right, dear.”
You inwardly groaned – your little comment had just sealed your fate.
 ***
You carefully flicked the pages of your book as you sat at your vanity. You had just escaped from that monstrosity of a royal dinner and you were tired enough. Sitting in your mellow pink night gown, you read in the gentle confines of your temporary room. Until a small knock at the door brought you out of your reverie.
“Come in,” You said, just loud enough for the person on the other side of the door to hear.
“My Princess, I apologise for disturbing you,” Aneko bowed in her haste and you let out a small laugh.
“No worries, Aneko, and didn’t I tell you to just call me (Y/N)?” You raised an eyebrow and she flushed pink.
“Apologies, your high- (Y/N),” she offered a small smile. “I was sent to inform you that your mother would be leaving for home tomorrow at dawn.”
Frowning at her words, you carefully closed your book. “She will not be staying?”
“She has to be present in your kingdom, (Y/N).”
“I see. Thank you, Aneko, for letting me know. You may leave.”
“Thank you,” and with that, she left the room.
A soft sigh left your lips as you thought everything over. Firstly, you were living in a foreign kingdom. Secondly, you were engaged to a man you know nothing about and from everything your mother spouted at dinner, you doubted he would ever want you to get to know him. Another point was the fact that your mother was leaving you to your own devices in the morning. That would be great if it was in your own kingdom, but while you were here, you didn’t know what there was to do or who everyone is.
You stifled a groan, slumping backwards in your chair. Why weren’t you born as a normal girl?
 ***
You were escorted to breakfast the next morning, wearing a pale pink day dress with a boned bodice. At least it was better than your murderous corset.
“Ah, well if it isn’t the bride to be,” Queen Miyoko greeted you as you entered the breakfast hall.
“Please, may I ask you to call me (Y/N)?” You responded as you took your seat.
She nodded, “Of course, of course. In that case, I wish for you to call me ‘mother’.”
You choked at her words, a brilliant red creeping up your cheeks. “I- I’m sorry?”
“Mother, please, you’re embarrassing me before I have even said a word.”
At the entrance of the breakfast hall was Keiji, amusement on his face as he saw your flushed one.
“Oh, don’t be like that Keiji!” His mother let out a childish giggle. “Anyway, are there any plans for today?”
“It’s your choice,” the prince said, turning to you. “Is there anything you would like to do?”
“May I… visit the village?” You asked slowly, thinking over your words. “I might as well get to know the kingdom?”
Miyoko clapped her hands at your words. “Oh, what a wonderful idea, (Y/N)! Please, Keiji, take her there, will you?”
 “Of course, mother.”
“Alright, alright, that’s what I’m talking about!” A booming voice exclaimed upon its entry into the hall.
All heads turned to see King Kenji who had the brightest smile on his face.
“Father…” Keiji pinched the bridge of his nose.
“Keiji, my boy! Eat quickly, now, the village waits! Isn’t that right, (Y/N)?” He grinned at the both of you, raising a toast with some apple juice in a wine glass.
Leaning slightly towards you, Keiji whispered from the corner of his mouth, “I apologise, my father is quite… lively in the morning.”
“It’s alright, it’s better than the silence back home,” you said. “Uh, let’s eat, I suppose?”
 ***
After the eventful breakfast that left you in uncontrollable fits of laughter, you and Keiji made your way into the village.
“Tell me, my prince, have you been in the village before?”
“Of course I have, princess, it is my kingdom after all.” He nodded in respect at a salesman who bowed down.
You merely shrugged, “But have you gotten to know them at all?”
He was silent and you chuckled knowingly. As you did, you felt a small tug at your skirt. You looked down, only to see a little girl with braids on either side of her head.
“Hello there,” you greeted, crouching down to meet her eyes. “What’s your name?”
“Sakura,” she said quietly. “Are you a princess?”
“That’s a pretty name. And yes, I am a princess.” You leaned in to whisper cheekily into her ear. “It’s not like the fairy tales.”
She giggled at your words. “You’re really pretty.”
You swore your heart was stabbed by her cuteness. “I think you’re beautiful.”
“Really? But I don’t wear a tiara or wear a pretty dress…” she pouted and you laughed as you pat her head.
“My dear, the only thing that’s important is to be kind and be fruitful. Looks change over time, don’t they? Stay innocent, stay kind, and you will be the most beautiful.”
Her bright blue eyes lit up at your words and she nodded in promise. Rising from your crouch, you watched her run off to her mother who hugged her tightly.
“You’re quite the noble character,” Akaashi noted as you both continued to walk.
“Nobility is a rare trait, don’t you think?” You grinned, “Are you trying to say that I’m a rare one, my prince?”
“I was simply trying to say that you have all the traits of a good queen.”
You laughed, “I don’t think my mother would agree with you.”
“Is it because you’re ‘stubborn and ungraceful in all aspects of your life’?” He asked, recalling your mother’s words and he watched as you rolled your eyes. Whether it be because you were amused or annoyed, he wasn’t sure, but at least you didn’t take too much offence.
“Please don’t remind me,” you said, slightly joking but mostly serious. “I was never the perfect child.”
“Well, I assure you that you are going to be a perfect queen.”
“You flatter me for no reason, Keiji,” you responded.
He shrugged, offering you his arm which you took as he said, “Well, you are my future wife. Isn’t it a husband’s job to flatter his wife?”
“In that case, keep going, will you?” You shot him a teasing smile.
He chuckled at your words before nodding, “As you wish, Princess.”

Before you broke my heart hahaha, i really have been enjoying your mountain man series, I love how its like going through an emotional rollercoaster and feels quite real. big respect on Aone and you for adding the constant consent! i really appreciated it, and i always feel really comfortable reading your nsfw fics. Also you're really making me love aone's and kenjis (as wells as kogane's) friendship, like them being there for eachother. i would love to see where kenji and kusa end up. - qyu
🥺🥺🥺
Everything you said put a big smile on my face. Thank you lovely!!!!!!
Yes our Aone is the CONSENT KING....👑 we don’t play that extra shit over here ✌🏾
And OMFG I am SO glad you acknowledged that - while this is a love story between reader!chan & Aone, its also a story of love through friendships, the strongest being Futakuchi x Mountain Man and then their son who whines a lot lmao. Thank you for noticing ily 😢
Edit: OMG so Kogane has no chance with Kusa ????? 😩

In Conversation: Malaysian Strippers in Melbourne
Tumblr media
In Malaysia, most sex workers are still referred to as “prostitutes” - women that sell sex for payment, a derogatory slur. The definition perpetuates a very narrow vision of sex work for our population. That, combined with the religious underpinnings of many of our laws, criminalizes most forms of sex work and in turn endangers the livelihood of sex workers throughout the country. Many conflate sex work with sex trade/human trafficking but whilst many people that are trafficked are wrongfully subjected to rape and sexual abuse, it is important to not mix a sex worker that has agency versus someone that is being trafficked. Strip clubs/Gentlemen’s clubs are popular destinations across Australia and are not illegal as opposed to Malaysia. I had the pleasure to chat with Kenji and Aria, both Malaysian born and raised, who are or were strippers in the Melbourne industry.
Disclaimer: To protect their identities, the dancers are referred by their aliases and also the reason why this interview was transcribed into a piece of writing instead of a voice recording!
Thank you so much for joining me today, ladies. Let’s dive straight in. How did you both come into the industry and why?
Aria: I love telling this story because it clearly encapsulates how naive I was! I was an international student pursuing my undergraduate degree in Melbourne - it’s a privilege to be able to study abroad but it also comes with a lot of financial strain if you don’t come from the RICH rich section of Malaysian society. I wanted to do more than just the typical go-to-class, study, and done regime.  But applying for a job in Australia when you’re fresh out of college and don’t have any credentials, is so difficult. It’s already difficult enough to get a job when you’re qualified so you can imagine the struggle with not much. A friend recommended trying a search for nightclubs that needed podium go-go dancers. I thought, “hell yeah! I love dancing and I think I’m pretty good at it so might as well get paid!”. I went through different job sites and found something on Gumtree, that should’ve been my first indication of dodginess but hey, I didn’t know better. So I scored an interview with what I thought was a night club which turned out to be a gentlemen’s club - a guy friend pointed it out to me when I told him about the interview and where it was! I tossed about whether to go or not but ended up doing it. I wanted to be able to save money and invest in myself so this was a way for me to do just that.
Kenji: I was studying too. I had a slight idea of what the industry was like having met a dancer through one of my friends beforehand. For me, it was kind of like curiosity killed the cat. I’ve always been attracted to the strip club scene but never had the balls because of how taboo it was or is. On my birthday, I did my first audition. I was fortunate enough that I knew someone that was familiar with the industry - so he pointed me towards the more reputable clubs in the city. I did my thing and there were a few other dancers auditioning - they felt pretty stern and unfriendly but having been in the industry myself now, I understand why they weren’t too warm to new dancers because the more dancers there are the more competitive it becomes, on a broader scale. My audition happened during club hours - didn’t get the part because at the time they were looking for girls that could do pole tricks BUT I got tipped which was a nice birthday gift. King street was notorious for being the hub for strip clubs so unknowingly, my best friend and I stumbled across another club. We got in for free at this other club because we were girls. We went straight to the manager and asked about jobs there so we were kind of scouting and wanted to get a dance from one of the girls there to get a better grasp of what it was like. She to this day is still the BEST hustler and dancer in my eyes. She approached us and worked her magic - experiencing this and getting to work with her later on I will always be in awe of how she hustled us. Many that approached us were standoff-ish after they found out we wanted to be dancers but she wasn’t. I ended up applying to that club a few months later and started working. One of my parents fell sick and filed for bankruptcy a few months after I started working so it worked in my favour because I had this as a source of income to support myself while at uni.
What was it like for both of you starting out? Did you have a friend to hold your hands through the initial few months or did you have to hit the ground running and how did it evolve?
Kenji: I’ve definitely got a broader network of sex workers; dancers, escorts, and even pornstars and it’s completely different from when I started out. Like I said before, I had a friend who was familiar with the industry so he was able to answer any queries I had. I remember him telling me, “oh you’ve really come out of your shell” and to an extent, I had, but in saying that, when I’m stripping I’ve got a whole persona going for me. I’ve noticed that with a lot of girls, they have a facade almost. The more full-time you do it, the more you embody that persona. Then the less you do it, especially now with COVID, so many girls in the sex industry speak out about how they feel like they’ve lost their sense of their identity.
Aria: You know I definitely think the loss of identity also spreads across the board of people that have lost their jobs due to redundancies. The sex work industry definitely suffers more because we don’t have a lot of spaces to openly talk about it. I’m no longer a stripper but I feel for my sex workers across the board. But to answer your question, I started in the industry not knowing anyone - it can be quite isolating. I quickly made friends with girls that auditioned the same time I did. We had a rule in the club that newbies had to work every Tuesday night for the 1st 3 months - it was poker night, also very dead but great to practice getting comfortable with the pole and patrons. I think becoming a sex worker really dispelled a lot of the internalized myths, especially when people say that it was/is easy. It’s something that gets signaled through language, through media when you’re growing up that sex workers choose this line of work because it’s easy but if they only knew the sheer amount of work it takes to be a successful one! You need to act, it’s a business, and it’s also a lot of rapport building whether that’s with clients or your fellow strippers. Sex work also opened another door into the hospitality industry for me and it served as a wonderful stepping stone into different work that probably fit better with my schedule.
Kenji: Yes! Dancers can come off as standoff-ish sometimes but I know it’s just a wall to protect themselves from all the bullshit they go through day in day out.
I know the clubs have different touching and no-touching policies. Can you both tell me about how you navigated those boundaries with different patrons?
Aria: Those boundaries were definitely something I learnt about the stripper world, I guess. There are rules and like any workplace, some people think it fit to bend those rules and blur the lines. It’s frustrating because it skews shit for other dancers because then you get the clients that say, “oh but X did this for me and it was fine” Well I’m not them!
Kenji: Exactly! Every strip club has its politics like every other workplace. Stripping can be seen as teasing. “It doesn’t matter where you get your appetite as long as you go for dinner”. It’s built for these corporate men who have wives at home. I was working at one of the two non-touching clubs in Victoria. I can’t speak for the whole of Australia but it seems like most clubs have a waist and above policy. It would be annoying whenever we’d get clients that kept insisting for more. You’re probably at the wrong club if that’s what you’re after. You came in, there’s a certain set of rules, we don’t want to be touched, none of the girls want that but too often we’re faced with a rebuttal insinuating that another dancer in the club would allow it. When asked who it is, so we can do justice and tell management, often it’s a sham or they’d be ridden with fear. I have seen it happen once or twice but the girls never seem to last many shifts. Some clubs are stricter than others; though it’s difficult to police and check even with all the security cameras because it’s dark and the weekends get pretty busy.
So no touching meaning they can’t touch you at all or are there some exceptions?
Kenji: We call it control touching. So you can sit on them, you can’t grind on their privates. They can have their hands on your waist but not too low.
How did you make the distinction on who to disclose your sex work to? Do you wish you could have been more open about it?
Kenji: It’s something that I’m proud of but secretly proud of. There’s that conflict in my head because it’s not something that’s widely accepted but it’s a great way to filter out those whose values don’t align. People’s views on sex work are a huge prerequisite to whether I can hold space for them in my life or not. I’ve told a few people from home, and there are a few people I regret telling because it’s so easy to slip and that can have a ripple effect. I’ve got a handful of people from home that share this secret, my sister included. It’s a lot easier telling the people I meet in Melbourne being foreign. Dating is a lot easier when you lay out the facts from the get-go - if you can’t take the heat you gotta leave the kitchen!
Aria: It’s so important to be upfront about it. When I started, I told a few friends who I knew wouldn’t react badly to it, all they cared about was my safety. The men I dated in Melbourne were mostly so lovely. Their responses were like “Yas, get that bread!!” It was nice and unexpected. Funnily enough, it was the opposite when I went back to KL and dated during the holidays. I wasn’t dancing anymore at that time but for me, my partner’s views on sex work were important for me to understand their own whorephobia. So I had a great date with this guy and the next day I told him about my previous sex work - he flipped. He said, “how can you be someone that wants to practice feminist values, someone that wants to empower women, and then you do this?!?!”. Sometimes, you have to protect your peace and walk away but I was feeling up to the emotional labour that day. Sometimes, you just have to respond with a little empathy because he grew up with a lot of conservative/puritanical values. So I explained everything to him and unpacked his skewed perceptions and biases; it took him a day to process but hey, now we’ve been dating for almost 4 years. Being a sex worker is part of me and will always be. It’s nice to see people capable of changing their mindset when they get the chance to and when they matter enough to you for you to put in the effort.
Safety is one of the most common things people have concerns about. How did you personally manage your own safety? Whether that's you know, maintaining your anonymity, maintaining safety from clients outside the club, and working late hours?
Kenji: Kenji is my alter ego. Keeping your identity separate definitely helps. With regulars, some have my number but it’s a lot easier to give out your strippergram if you have one. It’s a great way to stay anonymous considering I don’t have my face on there. With physical safety, we’re not allowed to leave with any clients and we’ve got backdoors if we wanna leave unseen. The guards are lovely enough to escort you to your car or uber if they’re not busy breaking a fight or tossing someone out of the club!
Aria: Sometimes, you also just leave with friends and you grab a bite after. Those are some of my best memories after work. It’s 5 am and you go for a quick Maccas run or burger run with the girls.
Kenji: Yes! The guards are your best friends when it comes to safety. They’re big teddy bears to us but vicious to patrons and those who disrespect us. All I have to do is tell a guard someone’s harassing me in order for them to send them out. The night I found out my dad fell sick, I still had to go to work after bawling my eyes out. I went to work at 9 pm and the shift lasted till 7 am. My phone died whilst I was trying to book an Uber so I asked the Head of Security to help hail me a cab. He asked how far away I lived, and it was barely a 5-minute drive so he took his own car and drove me home mid-shift. It’s comforting to know that we’re being looked after.
Aria: I did a lot of half an hour walks back home in the wee hours of the morning. Not the safest, I know but I honestly was at the point where booking an Uber was an expense I didn’t need. I would dress up in baggy clothes and have a large hoodie to protect my safety and you couldn’t tell I was a woman.
Kenji before we started the interview, you briefly mentioned grappling with your sense of identity. Can you delve a little further into this?
Kenji: This club has been my home club for over three years now and that overlaps with the years that I’ve spent in this foreign city. I had a little more of an ambiguous accent back then and it was fun at first but the question “where you from?” grew old. I’d mix it up, play around with my accent, or make them guess and pretend they’d get it right on the first go. These guesses are usually telling of what they want you to be. Further, into my Melbourne journey, it was a lot easier to speak in an Australian accent to cut the story short. This was sometimes confusing to my peers and whoever was close to me. The versatility I have coming from a multiracial country is usually an advantage because of the ability to mirror whoever I speak to but that too can be hard on me especially when I’ve been away from home for a while and it’s difficult to distinguish what home is. That and the persona you adopt in the club because I can be quite the introvert outside of work. I’ve always been an openly sexual person so being in Malaysia definitely hindered me from being my authentic self. It’s suppressing being there in the way I dress, speak, and carry myself. As Aria said, it’s been a part of your life and it will always be there and I completely agree. The best piece of advice I got was that this is a transition, not a destination and I always felt that. You can definitely become a successful full-time stripper and retire with stripper savings but I am studying and I believe that this experience will only supplement what I choose to do in the future!
Aria: That’s definitely relatable. When you’re a dancer, you have to come up with your dancer name and like Kenji said it becomes your persona or alter ego. You have to create a whole character with that and it feeds into how you dress, what your stage performances are like - I feel like my time dancing was a time for me to explore parts of myself I didn't get to, back home in Malaysia. At home, it was always "that's too much" "that's too revealing"....... through stripping, I became so comfortable in my body. The club I worked at had mirrors surrounding the stage and when you turned on the pole, you could see every nook & cranny of your body. If you didn't like what you saw, then you really couldn't expect your clients to buy into your persona - at least I couldn't. So it was almost like I had to fall in love with myself and the character I portrayed. One day I remember thinking "wow, I'm everything.” When you feel that way then people that see you feel similarly when they see you too.
That’s fascinating - so much internal growth. How did you both come up with your names?
Kenji: I always wanted the name KAYA but another girl at the club beat me to it and had it spelled differently. I wanted KAYA because being Malaysian it meant, you know, something sweet, a coconut buttery spread, good ol' Malaysian; it also means rich, and that's exactly what I want to be as a dancer - but of course no one else would know what it meant. Funny thing though, after that I ended up looking up Asian baby girl names because I wanted to market my Asian-ness. "FETISHIZE ME! As long as I'm profiting from it, but don't fetishize me outside of work, that'll piss me off”. The more exotic I was to them, the better. It’s honestly not ideal and I wouldn’t accept it outside of the strip club. Patrons would come up to me and say something like, “My friend likes Asians, do you want to talk to him? I’ll buy him a dance” and I’ll say of course, but in real life, if I were to experience that in a nightclub or a bar setting, fuck no. I will not stand for it.
Aria: Yeah, how do you balance that? I chose Aria randomly actually. With the name though, I realised quickly it was also really racially ambiguous which really mimicked my world outside of work. My name wasn’t a typical Indian name so I’d always get the “Are you Chindian?” or “Are you Eurasian” growing up. And again, you can’t really tell Aria is a brown person’s name, it almost plays into the mystery. Growing up I never felt Indian enough and at the same time didn’t feel Malaysian enough - now I realise that’s absolutely bullshit but we conflate nationality, ethnicity, and culture too often. Outside of dancing, I don’t enjoy it when people fetishize South Asian women and reduce us to just qualities instead of a whole person.
Kenji: I feel that. The more a guy fetishizes me at work, the more of an incentive it is to milk him for it!
Aria: Its powerplay. Who has the power in that moment? It’s up to us to make sure the men believe they do. In the moment though, I am, in fact, profiting from his desires.
Kenji: This is true. One guy pulled the slanted eye gesture and I was quick to walk away from that client. I told the guards about him and this man was apparently being a nuisance to other girls too so it didn’t take long before he was chucked out of the club. Always feels so liberating when that happens. During my baby stripper days, I was naive and genuinely thought I was only selling dances but got to learn that the whole marketing scheme was pivoted around a man’s libido. I understand that now and it’s important to find those boundaries and not let it consume me inside and outside of work.
What are some of the biggest misconceptions of what it’s like to be a stripper?
Kenji: That all strippers are loaded. We all have bills to pay so it’s not like we can dance for free and it’s actually ludicrous the number of times we get asked to do a free dance for whatever reason as if we’re partying with them and not working laborious hours in 6-8 inch heels.
Aria: Another one is that we’re all very sexual just because we’re sex workers.
Kenji: Yes!! We’re sexually open but I think that makes us more protective of whose energies we allow into our personal space.
Aria: When I was dating, I had to weed out the men that only saw me as a sex object. Sex work is my work. Outside of that, I’m not always trying to have sex! I’m a whole person with other interests too. Just like you.
Do you have any favourite clients or stories about them?
Kenji: I love foot fetish guys! They don’t make you dance or anything, they just want to admire your feet. It’s an absolute blessing to have a break in the night where you can put your feet up, literally, and have your feet rubbed and not to mention get paid for it!
Aria: Oh who doesn’t love the simpler clients! My favourite client definitely had to be someone that booked me for 3 hours to just sit and talk. So a regular of one of my good friends at work, let’s call her Lila, walks into the club. He already booked Lila out for the remainder of the night but also had a friend with him and asked her to find a girl to keep his friend company. So she pulled me to the side to see if I was free. That’s where, you know, it’s so important to build good rapport amongst other workers because they can also bring clients and good business to you. It was the best because all this guy wanted to do with me was talk! Lila was fully naked enjoying her time with her person and in my head, I was down to do the same for mine but he turned to me and said, “could you just maybe keep your clothes on and we just talk instead?” so hell yeah! We made great conversation and went on the most interesting tangents - anxiety, his addiction to cocaine and how it fuelled his anxiety which he tried to subside through masturbating to pornography, his struggle dating because most milked him for his wealth.
Kenji: Yes! Completely forgot about those kinds of clients as they’re a lot rarer these days. Some men, typically older and more established tend to just want a chat and have a good time. These men are the best because you can drop your guard and essentially have a break from your usual stripper act. International clients with experience in foreign clubs often come in and you can observe the differences in stripper culture, typically American or European club etiquette... So you have to learn to be assertive of your boundaries and the rules at your club because they come in with their own preconceived rules; especially if you’re in a non-touching club vs a touching club. Clubs have their own set of rules, some have table bookings, some have tipping dollars, some make it compulsory to tip if you’re seated around the stage.
Final thoughts and final words for the people?
Kenji: To anyone that wants to join the sex industry, do your research. It’s so important. It will definitely have an impact on your life. I’ve definitely grown to love my naked body more from this experience. You can say I’m vagina positive - I’m a huge advocate for vagina lovin’, no pun intended. I’ve come a long way from being ashamed of it to be able to recognize that there are so many different types of vaginas and that they’re all beautiful; whatever shape, size, or colour.  Anyway, it’s good to know what you’re going up against. For both myself and Aria, it seems like we dove head in. I think it’s done more positive than it has negative for us personally. But many girls do lose themselves in the process, some really hurt themselves because it’s a tough job. Know how to protect yourself while you’re in the industry. Some girls get stuck and don’t know which way is out and it’s difficult when there’s a huge gap in your resume. I feel similarly but I know it’s a means to support myself whilst studying and it’s important to keep a goal in mind and stick to it.
Aria: Sex workers are all different and multi-dimensional, like any other workplace and community. We’re such a diverse background of people. There’s the perception that there’s just one type of person that goes into dancing or goes into sex work, but in reality, people come from various backgrounds. Whether it’s a lifestyle, whether it’s survival work, whether it’s a side hustle; we all deserve respect. To decriminalise sex work and reach a point of respectability, it’s not just us who need to speak out. Clients and patrons need to also try to be unashamed about buying sex or seeing sex workers. People that date sex workers need to call out whorephobia within their circles and address it. Pay for your porn when you have the means to, don’t ask for discounts from sex workers. Respect the work.
It was so lovely to listen to both of their stories. Both Aria and Kenji both talked about how being sex workers pushed them to come out of their shells. Kenji had friends that complimented her newfound assertiveness and Aria personally became a lot more comfortable with her skin suit/ her body. I hope if you’ve made it this far into this piece of writing and conversation that you learnt a new perspective. This isn’t just a story about two sex workers, it’s also a story of two women of colour who are students in a foreign country.

Recommended music Mao: ① 「JOY」 YUKI. I may like this even more than JUDY AND MARY. Recently, I always listen to it when I'm on the move. ② 「LIFE」 Ozawa Kenji I recommend all the songs on this. He's one of the artists who have influenced me considerably. I sing his songs often at karaoke too. Buy it.
Shinji: ① 「Memorys of blue」 Himuro Kyosuke Full points for adult charm. ② 「INSTANT LOVE」 BOOWY It's overflowing with youth.
Aki: ① 「Language. Sex. Violence. Other?」 Stereophonics The best. ② 「To the Faithful Departed」 The Cranberries Everyone please listen.
Yuuya: ① 「The Weather Year」 Jaco Pastorius I dunno what to comment on. Anyway, it's good. Although this person is a bassist, he's pretty PROTECH. ② 「Koi no Yokan」 Anzen Chitai It's great to sing this! I really like Tamaki-san's voice. The arrangement is the best too. Exactly what I said.

MIRACULOUS VOICE ACTING
First of all, this took me 3 hours to pull together, and second of all you’re welcome.
This is a masterlist of all major roles (besides Miraculous Ladybug) the voice actors of our favourite characters play.
Before I begin, a few notes:
I got most of them, but in case I missed any, feel free to reblog with your own additions to this list and/or check out the IMDb page.
Before I get into the individual roles of the Miraculous VAs, I made a list of many other shows/franchises in which they act together. It’s a surprisingly long list, so the VAs of our favourite characters (Marinette, Adrien, Alya, etc.) must know each other quite well, which explains their excellent chemistry.
If you want (read: need) some quality LadyNoir flirting, watch the final episodes of Sword Art Online English Dub (the scenes between Kirito and Alicia Rue). If you close your eyes and just listen, it’s basically the LadyNoir flirting we all deserve. You’re welcome.
Also, if you want to hear Ladybug and Chat Noir’s voices except badass, check out Ajin: Demi-Human and look out for the characters Izumi and Kaito.
If you’ve always wanted to beat the crap out of Hawk Moth, well, you’re in luck! You can! (Kind of). His VA plays a few video game characters who are killable, most noteably Emperor Titus Mede II and Nazeem from Skyrim. The Emperor is assassinated by the player (you!) at the end of the Dark Brotherhood questline, and Nazeem can be legally killed during the Siege of Whitrerun during the Civil War (Stormcloaks) questline. Again, you are welcome.
Without further ado, let’s begin!

For the week of 4 March 2019
Quick Bits:
A Walk Through Hell #8 gets creepier as Paul tells his story, raising huge questions of how deep a conspiracy may go to have covered up his brutal history. Garth Ennis, Goran Sudžuka, Ive Svorcina, and Rob Steen are delivering one hell of an atmospheric horror story with this series.

Amazing Spider-Man #16.HU is really another prelude to the “Hunted” event, but this one gets its branding and special interstitial “.HU” suffix, from Nick Spencer, Iban Coello, Edgar Delgado, and Joe Caramagna. This issue follows Black Cat as she is sent to free the Owl from Taskmaster and Black Ant to square things away with Hammerhead. It does a good bit to redeem Felicia’s behaviour of recent years, explaining exactly why she’s more or less been acting out of character as a hardened criminal kingpin.

Astro Hustle #1 is a pretty good start to this space opera from Jai Nitz, Tom Reilly, Ursula Decay, and Crank! It reminds me a lot of Barbarella crossed with Sword of the Swashbucklers, mixing space and pirates with some oblique sociopolitical commentary. Also maybe a bit of The Incal. This issue largely introduces us to Chen Andalou (yeah, I’m not sure if there’s a significance to the Un Chien Andalou reference) and the band of pirates he falls in with and it’s rather entertaining. Reilly’s art reminds me a bit of Moritat, Goran Parlov, and Goran Sudžuka and it works very well for the story.

Avengers #16 continues the war of the vampires. I really like the new design for Ghost Rider from David Marquez. It’s more in line with how Vengeance used to be portrayed and the flame and shadow from Marquez and Erick Arciniega really works for a harder edged version of the character.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media
Avengers: No Road Home #4 sees Sean Izaakse and Marcio Menyz begin their three issues handling art duties and it’s gorgeous. Like Paco Medina, Juan Vlasco, and Jesus Aburtov for the first three issues, the artists are really giving this story their all and delivering some incredible artwork. Great layouts and panel compositions as we get to see Nyx’s own side of the story.

Batman #66 resumes “Knightmares” with an issue of the Question trying to get to the bottom of Selina leaving Bruce at the proverbial altar. Illustrated by Jorge Fornés, with colours from Dave Stewart, it leans hard into Year One imagery to begin with, evoking David Mazzucchelli, and just goes through Selina’s history with Bruce from there.

Black Hammer ‘45 #1 expands the Black Hammer universe out further with the addition of a Blackhawks analogue, along with nods to Enemy Ace and Rocket Red, from Jeff Lemire, Ray Fawkes, Matt Kindt, Sharlene Kindt, and Marie Enger. There’s a compelling mystery set up across the present and the past regarding the Black Hammer Squadron’s final mission and the art from the Kindts is gorgeous.

The Black Order #5 concludes the series focusing on Ebony Maw’s betrayal, the end of the Grandmaster’s game, and Carlos Magno, Scott Hanna, Jay David Ramos, and Dono Sánchez-Almara providing the artwork. This has been an interesting series, telling a relatively simple story of the Black Order executing a contract to topple the Sinnarian Emperor, but Derek Landy has been telling it through issues each largely from the viewpoint of each of one of the members of the Black Order. It’s been a good insight into what makes these villains tick.

Blossoms 666 #2 continues to be an entertaining read from Cullen Bunn, Laura Braga, Matt Herms, and Jack Morelli. This chapter lightly deals with the fallout from the disappearance of Ethel and Reggie, while setting up Betty to investigate. The story is definitely taking a slow burn approach, but it’s quite compelling. The horror of a devil cult infiltrating a small town vibe going on is wonderful.

Champions #3 goes in a few directions as the new bigger team get some training in, an enemy from Sam’s past comes calling, Dust apparently didn’t get sucked into the Age of X-Man and is dealing with anti-mutant hysteria, and Miles is racked with guilt over his decision. I love the layers that Jim Zub is adding to the script and the art from Steven Cummings, Marcio Menyz, and Federico Blee captures the youthful action very well.

Conan the Barbarian #4 might be my favourite issue of this series yet with glorious guest art from Gerardo Zaffino, evoking memories of his father’s work on Savage Sword, and presenting a gritty, visceral, and dark tale of King Conan alongside Jason Aaron, Matthew Wilson, and Travis Lanham. The idea of Conan becoming sick over peace is humorous and there’s a wonderful nod to the Punisher.

The Curse of Brimstone #12 brings the series to an end with a final confrontation between Brimstone and a member of the “home office”, Infernal. The revelations about who Infernal is a twisted alternate version of is interesting, as well as their means of ingress into the regular DCU. The series also goes out with a bang with the very impressive artwork from Denys Cowan, John Stanisci, and Rain Beredo. Cowan is a legend and that shines through in this final arc. I do hope, though, that we see Brimstone and the effects of this series pop up somewhere else in the DCU in the future.

Deadly Class #37 continues “Never Go Back” with the spotlight shifted back to Quan and Kenji, bringing back Saya in a pretty big way. The action in Wes Craig’s artwork (with colours from Jordan Boyd) is pretty much peerless.

Deathstroke #41 serves as a prelude to the “Terminus Agenda” crossover with Teen Titans, with Slade a fugitive in Gotham, trying to figure out the reason behind one of his recent contracts, from Christopher Priest, Fernando Pasarin, Cam Smith, Sean Parsons, Jeromy Cox, Carrie Strachan, and Willie Schubert. There are some interesting mysteries being set up here, even as Slade is being targeted.

Die #4 is another brilliant issue from Kieron Gillen, Stephanie Hans, and Clayton Cowles. The depth of the storytelling, character and world building, and overall narrative is staggering in this series. The amount of thought and attention to detail that seem to have gone into constructing the story is just amazing, as what feels like a fully-realized fantasy world cognizant of itself comes tumbling out.

Eclipse #13 begins the final arc of the series, from Zack Kaplan, Giovanni Timpano, Flavio Dispenza, and Troy Peteri. If the spark lit in this issue is any indication, it looks as if the series is going to end in fire with a lot of death.
| Published by Image / Top Cow

Giant Days #48 gives us that rare issue also illustrated by John Allison, I think for the first time since the original series, for a wedding. Very funny look at some of Susan’s hang-ups and Daisy confronted by possible feelings for Esther.
| Published by Boom Entertainment / BOOM! Box
Tumblr media
The Girl in the Bay #2 gets weirder as the younger Kathy navigates, from her perspective, the future. Melting doppelgangers, creepy old guys that killed you, ghosts of rock and roll legends, and flat screen televisions stymie her as the mystery deepens. This is some intriguing stuff from JM DeMatteis, Corin Howell, James Devlin, and Clem Robins.
| Published by Dark Horse / Berger Books
Tumblr media
The Green Lantern #5 is more glorious madness from Grant Morrison, Liam Sharp, Steve Oliff, and Tom Orzechowski. Easily one of my favourite things to read every month. This issue dives headlong into Hal’s test of recruitment to the Blackstars, a trial of having to survive a gauntlet across the vampire planet, Vorr. Though definitely part of a larger narrative, I’m still impressed by how this series is being constructed through largely satisfying, mostly self-contained stories. And, of course, the astounding artwork from Sharp and Oliff. There’s also some wonderful vampire Easter eggs in this one.
| Published by DC Comics
Tumblr media
Immortal Hulk #14 is one hell of an issue, burying Thunderbolt Ross (again) and giving us the reunion of Bruce and Betty. All with glorious guest art from Kyle Hotz, delivering some of his best artwork pretty much ever. Dark, moody, and evocative. This is a big one, once again underlining how sick, twisted, and downright evil General Fortean and the forces hunting Bruce really are, even if they’re supposedly the “good guys”.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media
Justice League #19 begins the “The Sixth Dimension” arc from Scott Snyder, Jorge Jimenez, Alejandro Sanchez, and Tom Napolitano, as the League tries to get help from Mr. Mxyzptlk in regards to the broader problems with the Source Wall, Perpetua, and the nefarious plans of the Legion of Doom. Interesting bits of humour in this issue, especially since the end moments give us a rather dark turn.
| Published by DC Comics
Tumblr media
Killmonger #5 concludes what has been an excellent series reintroducing a movie-influenced Killmonger back into the Marvel universe from Bryan Hill, Juan Ferreyra, and Joe Sabino. This finale shows just how brutal and calculating he can be when exacting revenge.

Morning in America #1 is the debut of a new ‘80s teen horror drama from most of the Kim & Kim team of Magdalene Visaggio, Claudia Aguirre, and Zakk Saam, with Aguirre providing full illustrations on this series not just colours. It’s good, setting up our lead characters nicely and presenting a compelling mystery for the disappearances of the children.

Oberon #2 launches Bonnie on her quest, first testing her with a labyrinth, while Oberon and his man-servant deal with some complications. I’m loving the artwork from Miloš Slavković, who is proving equally as adept with fantasy as he does with the sci-fi of Lightstep.

Red Sonja #2 is a bit more traditional in its approach than the first issue subverting some of the conventions of sword and sorcery, but is no less entertaining as Sonja prepares to defend Hyrkania from the Zamoran invaders. Mirko Colak’s art makes it seem like he was born to draw this sort of adventure.

Ronin Island #1 is an entertaining debut from Greg Pak, Giannis Milonogiannis, Irma Kniivila, and Simon Bowland, featuring an island of survivors who think they’re the only remnants left from the collapse of the Japanese shogunate. Great art from Milonogiannis and Kniivila, along with a very interesting twist as a cliffhanger.

Self/Made #4 makes another turn as Rebecca manages to “fix” Amala’s data files and brings her programming online in the real world. I love what Mathew Groom, Eduardo Ferigato, Marcelo Costa, Mariana Calil, and Troy Peteri are doing with this series. It’s very good sci-fi, populated with some compelling characters, and raising some important questions about self-determination, creation, and the purpose of life.

The Six Million Dollar Man #1 is a rather light-hearted take on the franchise from Christopher Hastings, David Hahn, Roshan Kurichiyanil, and Ariana Maher (with special thanks to Zack Davisson). Nice bits of humour in the start to this spy thriller.

Star Wars #62 begins “The Scourging of Shu-Torun” and what I believe is the final arc from Kieron Gillen. This issue is largely a gathering of the team, with Leia laying out the plan for the regular crew and then going on a recruitment drive of many of the faces that we’ve seen throughout Gillen’s run

Star Wars: Age of Republic - Padmé Amidala #1 is another one-shot set during the Clone Wars, from Jody Houser, Cory Smith, Wilton Santos, Walden Wong, Marc Deering, Java Tartaglia, and Travis Lanham. It briefly touches on Padmé’s relationship with Anakin, but largely deals with attempting to secure a partnership with an unaligned world for the Republic. Things naturally don’t go as well as planned.

Star Wars: Vader - Dark Visions #1 begins a mini-series written by Dennis Hallum and illustrated by different artists per issue, essentially giving us standalone stories from different perspectives on Darth Vader. This first one is from Paolo Villanelli and Arif Prianto, lettered by Joe Caramagna, and is told from the perspective of an inhabitant of an unnamed world that’s been ravaged by a kaiju. It’s a different take on Star Wars, but the art is wonderful.

Vampirella vs. Reanimator #3 sees things get significantly worse for the planet as Herbert West enables Mictecacihuatl’s and Vampirella raises her husband to try to stop her. Things don’t exactly go to plan. I’m still loving the black and white art with spot colours from Blacky Shepherd, it really gives the series a unique visual feel.

Vindication #2 complicates thing a lot more, delving into Chip’s past and revealing that there’s definitely something shady about Turn, though there are hints that whatever problems he’s got himself in it might be due to protecting his criminal brother. MD Marie, Carlos Miko, Dema Jr., Thiago Goncalves, and Troy Peteri are doing a great job of creating a compelling crime story here, showing that pretty much no one in this story is squeaky clean.

Witchblade #12 closes out this arc, mostly, and sets up a new world as a spell to get them out of their predicament goes awry. Though this story continues to move at a relatively slow pace, Caitlin Kittredge, Roberta Ingranata, Bryan Valenza, and Troy Peteri are still delivering a compelling, engrossing story as they build Alex’s rapport with the Witchblade and throw some unique complication at her.

Young Justice #3 gives us a touching reunion of Impulse and Superboy, before explaining how Conner got to Gemworld. It still doesn’t explain anything about why these pre-Flashpoint variations (other than a possible hint that Superboy isn’t “our” Superboy, although it’s presented in such a way that it seems more like in-story misdirection), but it’s still entertaining. Brian Michael Bendis, Patrick Gleason, Viktor Bogdanovic, Jonathan Glapion, Alejandro Sanchez, Chris Sotomayor, Hi-Fi, Carlos M. Mangual, and Josh Reed continue to slowly tease out the main plot on Gemworld while giving character-specific flashbacks.

KAIJUBILATION 2020 32.GODZILLA: FINAL WARS(2004) And so, we arrive at what was supposed to be a celebration of Godzilla’s 50th Anniversary, as well as the end of the Millennium series, as Toho had decreed he would be shelved for at least a decade. Hot director Ryuhei Kitamura (Versus) was selected to directed. With a fondness for the later Showa era Godzilla films, Kitamura, well known for his action sequences, packed this spectacular with an astonishing 14 kaiju, consisting of Godzilla, Minya, Mothra, Rodan, Anguirus, Kumonga, Kamacuras, Ebirah, Manda , Hedorah, King Caesar, Gigan, the 1998 Tri-Star creature here dubbed Zilla, and the new creature Monster X. The plot with all these giant monsters as an amalgam of Monster Zero and Destroy All Monsters. Showa stars, Kimi Mizuno, Akira Takarada and Kenji Sahara appear in supporting roles, while Heisei and Millenium series regulars Akira Nakao and Koichi Ueda have a cameo as well. Ultraman and Ninja Black, Kane Kosugi delivers some excellent fight scenes. All the elements are there, but something went horribly wrong. With that many kaiju, none of them are getting more than a brief focus before Godzilla stomps them into the ground and storms off to the next fight. It has all the emotional depth of the old NES Godzilla side scroller. And the explosions happen so frequently I actually asked myself “When did they let Michael Bay make a Godzilla film?” This was an apt comparison because the human plot, our lifeline into the film, was just boring and occupied the bulk of the time. A dozen kaiju, and the Gotengo, and you focus on a bunch of Matrix swipe fight scenes? Rather than focus on Godzilla’s battle with Monster X, we get the wire work battle between the our pouting, pompadoured hero and the sneering, black trenchcoat clad, goth Controller of Planet X and his eyeliner. Seeing as how this film is pretty much a cartoon, I took inspiration from an old Rick Geary cartoon of Godzilla in an overstuffed chair. Mounted trophy heads seemed like a good way to get all the kaiju in one scene. However, it’s difficult to get into an illustration when the subject leaves you cold. Next up is the original, the 1954 Godzilla. (at Burns Harbor, Indiana) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBVmhPNpcuy/?igshid=26ds2jfbvlgz
