MOGAI BHM- Day 1!
Happy BHM! To celebrate the first day of Black History Month, I figured I’d make my first post about the history of BHM itself! i highly recommend you read the whole post, but if you do genuinely struggle with reading very long posts, I will have a summary/conclusion at the end!
Carter G. Woodson-
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A black-and-white, portrait-style photograph of Carter G. Woodson. He is thin, Black with a medium-dark skin tone, and is wearing a black suit jacket over a white button-up collared shirt with a necktie that is grey with small white polka dots. He is wearing his hair in corn rows, and has a somewhat solemn expression on his face. End ID.]
The history of Black History Month would be entirely incomplete without discussing Carter G. Woodson! Woodson never in his lifetime got to see official establishments and celebrations of BHM, but he is nevertheless integral to its history.
Carter G. Woodson was born in 1875. Growing up, he was quite poor, and his schooling was very limited- he was mostly self taught. He taught himself basic subjects, and he graduated from high school only two years after entering. He worked in West Virginian coal mines to earn additional income for his family.
From an early age, Woodson was interested in teaching and history. Before getting his bachelors degree in literature from Kentucky’s Berea College, he worked as both a teacher and a school principal, and after graduating with his bachelor’s degree, he went on to travel Europe and Asia before returning to America to earn a master’s degree from the University of Chicago, and he then became the second Black American to ever attend and graduate from Harvard University. Eventually, he became the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Howard University, an HBCU!
The ASNLH, ‘N*gro History Week’, And More
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A newspaper clip from 1976. The newspaper clip has three columns of content- the right and left columns are text, and the central column is a picture of Carter G. Woodson’s face with his name as a caption. The title of the article is written across the whole top of the clipping and it reads: “Carter Woodson: Father Of Black History Month In U.S.” The text in both columns reads:
“Editor’s Note: Today marks the beginning of Black History Month, which continues through Feb. 29. In observance of this period, we think it appropriate to begin by running this article by Howard James Jones, who writes a column entitled, “Black Folk In American Civilization”, which runs in the Daily World.
February is celebrated as Black History Month. It received this designation as a result of the dream of one man who was able to work with a number of other persons to make this dream a reality. This seer was that he could do research for his dissertation at the Library of Congress. In 1909, he began teaching French, Spanish, English, and History in the public schools of the District of Columbia. In 1912, his dissertation, “The Disruption of Virginia”, was accepted by Harvard and he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. Afterwards, he served as Dean of The School of Liberal Arts at Howard University, but left because he did not agree with certain administration policies. He eventually gave up teaching altogether for this same reason.”
End ID.]
In the summer of 1915, Woodson attended an event which celebrated the 50th anniversary of emancipation. While the event was wildly popular and successful, it also coincided with Woodson being barred from conferences at the AHA, the American History Association. He realized that his goal of celebrating and recording Black history could not be achieved simply working within the framework of the AHA, so in 1915, he founded the Association for the Study of N*gro Life and History, or the ASNLH, which still exists today under the name the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, ASALH.
In 1916, he founded the Journal of N*gro History, which to this day remains a published journal under the name the Journal of African American History. The award-winning journal highlights stories from Black history and offers book reviews as well.
Woodson’s fraternity brothers sided with him when they helped him found N*gro History and Literature Week, later renamed N*gro Achievement Week, in 1924. While it had a significant impact, Woodson was not fully satisfied with it and wanted to go further. So, in February of 1926, he established what would, in 50 years, become Black History Month- N*gro History Week.
Celebrations of N*gro History Week spread rapidly. They popped up all over the USA, and Woodson along with the ASNLH provided annual themes, study materials, and incentives for celebrations. The spread of N*gro History Week was massive. Official celebrations were established by political leaders, and many schools began forming N*gro History clubs.
Woodson’s Concerns-
While Woodson was definitely pleased with the reaction to N*gro History Week, he still had many concerns about it. Although he chose the second week of February to celebrate the week due to many Black communities across America celebrating the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, both of which occur in the second week of February, he personally disapproved of those celebrations because he believed that they gave to much emphasis to one or two great people, instead of highlighting the history of Black people as a whole.
This concern he brought to N*gro History Week- he worried that people would start only celebrating certain huge figures from Black history instead of celebrating all the Black people from Black history, whether or not they personally made huge advancements, because he believed that the greatness of Black history came not from a few important individuals, but from every single Black American.
Another concern that Woodson had was with the performativity of many N*gro History Week celebrations. He observed that, while many people did genuinely engage in celebrations, many also used it as an opportunity to appear progressive than to actually celebrate Black history. He believed that, if Black history were ever to be truly respected, it must not be confined to a singular week or period of time, but instead must be a constant, never-ceasing pursuit- year-round instead of confined to a time period.
Black History After Woodson-
Rest in power to Carter G. Woodson, who passed away on April 3, 1950.
In the 1950s and 1960s, Woodson’s legacy lived on. The drive to celebrate and commemorate Black history showed up in larger movements for racial change. The Freedom Schools of the South incorporated Black history into their curriculums, Black teachers fought for recognition of Black history within schools, and Woodson’s ASNLH continued to fight for institutional change regarding the celebration of Black history.
In 1976, the first American president officially endorsed February as Black History Month. Every president since has similarly endorsed it. To this day, Black History Month is a thriving celebration, in America and across the world. Although Carter G. Woodson didn’t survive to see the first official celebrations of Black History Month, his legacy lives on through BHM- and so does his call to a genuine commitment to anti-racism and Black history.
Summary/Conclusion/Key Points-
- Carter G. Woodson was a man dedicated to the pursuit of documenting, teaching, learning, and celebrating Black history. He was a teacher, a scholar, and a historian.
- In 1915, Woodson founded the ASNLH to promote independent institutionalization of Black history and its education. The next year, he founded the Journal of N*gro History. Both of these things still exist to this day.
- In 1926, Woodson founded N*gro History Week, which rapidly spread throughout the following decades. It was wildly popular and important, but also raised concerns about performativity.
- Woodson passed away in 1950. After his death, efforts to improve the education about Black history continued, especially in the South with activism from Black teachers.
- In 1976, Black History Month was first celebrated officially across America in February. Woodson’s legacy lives on to this day through BHM.
- While BHM is just a month long, Black history is constant and is not confined to one month of the year. Honor Black history in all you do, not just in February but at any and all opportunities across the whole year.

His work is in the collections of The Whitney Museum of American Art; The Metropolitan Museum of Art; The Art Institute of Chicago; the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; the Center for Book and Paper Arts, Columbia College, Chicago; The Springfield Art Museum, MO; among other institutions. Recent gallery exhibitions include The Queen’s Court, Fierman, NYC (solo), LA 73 – NY 74, M&B Gallery, Los Angeles (solo) and Rachel Harrison, Albert Oehlen, Jimmy Wright, Corbett Vs. Dempsey, Chicago, both in 2019.
Fierman released a limited edition publication of Wright’s tearoom drawings, featuring writing by Alissa Bennett and Alison Gingeras, published by Heinzfeller Nileisist. In 2016 Corbett Vs. Dempsey published a major monograph of his work from the 1970s entitled New York Underground. Wright stopped making this body of work as the AIDS crisis wracked the gay community and New York changed.
The extant drawings from the period as such serve as a dreamlike document of an oft mythologized cultural moment. The first of Wright’s many flower works, were painted 1988-91, in homage to the artist’s partner who had recently died of AIDS. In 2018 he was named Academician of the National Academy of Design.

Free Appalachian Craft College
Tumblr media
Hey Cottagecore and Crafty kids!
I really wish I'd known about this place back when I was applying for colleges.
Berea College in Kentucky charges students $0 for tuition. Before you freak out about it being in Kentucky, go google the town of Berea. It's an arts and crafts wet dream, with a delightful emphasis on the unique culture of Appalachia.
The college is somewhat selective. They accept about 1/3 of all applicants. It's also a small school (student body of 1500), with a 9:1 student:faculty ratio. Half the students are POC. 67% are first generation college students.
Their work-study program is mandatory for all students, but instead of federal minimum wage there are 6 pay grades, ranging from zero responsibility to manager. When you graduate you get a "work transcript" and references as well as your regular transcript. Oh, and a LOT of the available jobs are crafting and working with animals.
The City of Berea has a ton of craft festivals, and students are encouraged to set up booths and make money selling tourists their own hand made crafts.
Art for its own sake is wonderful, but they have an emphasis on Entrepreneurship, so you can learn how to actually manage a business in the arts.
It's a very different education from what you get at the usual [CityX] College of Art and Design. They love art for its own sake, but they also really want to teach you how to make a living (while also giving you a broad based general education.)
If you know a crafty kid who aspires to make and sell any kind of art for a living, this could be a good place to add to their stack of school applications.

Described as “large and costly” by celebrated Georgia historian Charles C. Jones Jr. in 1890, the old Chatham County Jail is noteworthy for its exuberant Moorish-influenced tower (106 feet high) which replaced the original octagonal Byzantine style tower (93 feet high) following a fire in 1898. The McDonald Brothers Jail Building Company of Louisville, Kentucky, constructed the brick and iron 117-cell jail with the assistance of local architect DeWitt Bruyn and contractor W. F. Bowe. The jail was closed in 1978 with the completion of the new Chatham County Jail on Montgomery Street and the building gradually became a largely ruined shell. The Savannah College of Art and Design acquired the old jail in 1989, restoring only the jailer’s residence and tower.

NASA Goddard to Build Quake Detector for Artemis III Moon Landing - NASA

NASA Goddard to Build Quake Detector for Artemis III Moon Landing - NASA
Tumblr media
NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, will build a moonquake detector for astronauts to deploy on the Moon in 2026 during the Artemis III mission, which will return astronauts to the lunar surface for the first time in more than 50 years.
NASA selected the instrument, the Lunar Environment Monitoring Station (LEMS) as one of the first three potential payloads for Artemis III. LEMS is a compact, autonomous seismometer designed to carry out continuous, long-term monitoring of ground motion from moonquakes in the region around the lunar South Pole. The data LEMS gathers will help scientists study the Moon’s internal structure and could help refine our understanding of how the Moon formed.
Planetary scientist Mehdi Benna, of the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) Center for Space Sciences Technology (CSST), leads the LEMS team at NASA Goddard.
“The LEMS project is the culmination of several years of collaboration between UMBC, University of Maryland, College Park, and NASA Goddard,” Benna said.
Benna began conceptualizing the idea behind the LEMS instrument in 2018 after realizing the need for technology that could withstand the Moon’s harsh conditions to measure lunar geophysical activity for a long duration of time.
The team began developing his idea of a small, self-sustaining station that operates almost like a buoy in the ocean — what Benna calls a “lunar buoy” — that can survive on the surface through the lunar night and operate during the day. In 2018, Benna’s team received funding from NASA’s Development and Advancement of Lunar Instrumentation program to develop LEMS to flight readiness.
LEMS is intended to operate on the lunar surface from three months up to two years and could become a key station in a future global lunar geophysical network.
Moonquakes were first observed after Apollo astronauts placed seismometers on the lunar surface during their missions between 1969 and 1972. Moonquakes’ sources include the same tug of gravity between Earth and the Moon that cause ocean tides. In addition, the Moon trembles as it expands and contracts due to temperature changes, like a house creaking when the weather heats up or cools down.
The Apollo seismic data was collected on the Earth-facing side of the Moon near the lunar equator. “We don’t have seismic data from the lunar South Pole that can inform us on the local and global lunar subsurface structure,” said Naoma McCall, LEMS co-investigator and seismologist at NASA Goddard.
UMBC leads LEM’s science investigation. NASA Goddard will build and operate LEMS. The University of Arizona will supply LEMS’ two state-of-the-art seismometer sensors; Morehead State University in Kentucky will provide LEMS’ telecommunication system and the homebase of the mission’s operation center, and Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, will manage the instrument’s data processing and dissemination to the larger scientific community.
The other candidate instruments selected alongside LEMS are the Lunar Effects on Agricultural Flora instrument, led by researchers at Space Lab Technologies in Boulder, Colorado, and the Lunar Dielectric Analyzer instrument, led by researchers at the University of Tokyo and supported by JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency).
Together these instruments could collect valuable scientific data about the lunar environment, the lunar interior and how to sustain a long-duration human presence on the Moon, helping prepare NASA to send astronauts to Mars. Final manifesting decisions for Artemis III will be made at a later date.

Aequanimitas Encoded in Sound and Light
Kōan Jeff Baysa, M.D.
As a curator, my first interaction with Iranian-American composer David Abir was in organizing the group exhibition, One Hand Clapping: The Interstices of Sound, Language, and Silence in the old Smack Mellon space in DUMBO, New York. He created three walls, each inset with a speaker, arranged in a triangular formation, playing Mahler’s Fifth Symphony in staggered and overlayed sequences that one exquisitely experienced haptically and aurally as one walked amongst them.
From his physician father, the artist may well have inherited his sense of music’s healing potential. From his Persian heritage, he was attuned to the characteristics of Persian music that favors a modal system and is deeply connected to emotional expression and the human experience. Studying on his own, he also realized that classical music provides a range of emotions and can evoke calm and meditative resonances.
On another project at the now shuttered Chelsea Art Museum in Manhattan, he presented a version of Tekrar (“repetition” in Farsi), a looming  totemic sculpture designed that he designed, loosely based on the anatomy of the human ear. Experimenting with fragments of compositions, he found that playing them slightly out of phase and at graded volumes allowed new patterns to be formed. In combination with diffuse lighting of varying hues and intensities, they exerted a powerful peaceful effect.
During the onset of the COVID pandemic I was in Louisville, Kentucky and encouraged him to work with our Co-Immunity team at the Kentucky College of Art and Design to produce a video to be delivered via virtual reality  headsets to afflicted and intubated patients in intensive care units to lessen the trauma of crucial procedures. With visual and aural components that he developed for Tekrar, it would also be broadcast on the closed circuit television network in the hospital wards for its therapeutic effects. In smaller sculptural variants of Tekrar, we proposed placing these light and sound sculptures as calming meditative devices in high stress and anxiety hospital areas: post-surgery and emergency department waiting rooms.
Writing music utilizing sampling and digital technology to create collaged compositions delivered through his soothing light and sound sculptures, David Abir offers elegant alternative remedies for the human condition.

Our Story
About Mosquito Shield of East Louisville
Tumblr media
Partners in life and business, Amy and I have lived in LaRue County most of our lives. We raised two girls, Gillian and Kylee, who now reside in Louisville. Now that our girls are there, we like to think of Louisville as our second home.
Three years after opening our business,  we stumbled upon Mosquito Shield by accident. Amy and I also own a psychiatric telehealth company in Kentucky and we were quite content running that business.
One day I was surfing the internet, looking at different franchise opportunities, (definitely not looking to buy into one) and I came across Mosquito Shield. I was excited to tell Amy about it because our yard is horrible with mosquitoes and we had no idea you could hire someone to spray your yard for mosquito control.  We wanted to be customers! However, after a quick search we discovered that nobody covered our area. That’s when the ideas of purchasing a franchise began.
After conducting months of in-depth research, listening to numerous testimonies and a lot of asking ourselves “why not”, we were convinced this would be a no-brainer second business. We fell in love with the idea of bringing Mosquito Shield to our community. Mosquito Shield fit into our plan for the future and offered a service that we would be proud to offer to our friends, family and neighbors. By the end of 2022 we opened Mosquito Shield of East Louisville. We couldn’t be happier with our decision to join the Mosquito Shield family!
We truly believe Mosquito Shield is the best mosquito service on the market.  We have no set schedule like other mosquito companies do.  That gives us the flexibility to watch the weather and mosquito activity and spray when it is needed.  That along with having a proprietary blend that we use puts us head and shoulders above all other mosquito companies
We’re Not Just Mosquito Shield Owners
I have a degree in business management from Sullivan University in Louisville.  Amy is a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with her undergraduate degree from the University of Louisville and two master’s degrees from Vanderbilt University and Western Kentucky University.
Before starting our psychiatric telehealth practice I worked for an electric cooperative for 23 years in IT.  Amy has been in healthcare for the past 10 years.  She started as a geriatric nurse practitioner before going back to school for psychiatry.  Although our two businesses may seem to drastically differ, we have a common goal of making people happy.
Amy has treated patients in our area for the past 10 years.  We both graduated high school in our hometown of Hodgenville, Kentucky and have two children that also graduated from the same school.  Both of our children, Gillian and Kylee Nunn, live in Louisville where Kylee is attending the University of Louisville to become a meteorologist and Gillian is working toward moving out of state to go to The Savannah College of Art and Design.  We have lived and worked in our community our whole lives and couldn’t be more proud to do so.
Our Philosophy
We firmly believe in training and educating our technicians to be able to confidently spray our customer’s yards and answer any questions they may be asked about our service.  Our philosophy is, “if our employees are happy, our customers will be happy”.  Empowering our technicians with the proper tools, techniques and know-how, lets us confidently know that we are sending them to our customer’s properties with the confidence to do a great job.
Our Mission At Mosquito Shield of East Louisville
Our main goal is to put a smile on every customer’s face by giving them the ability to use their outdoor space without the worry of mosquitoes driving them back indoors.  Spraying our own yard has improved our quality of life tremendously.

Mary Elliott Hill
Tumblr media
was one of the earliest African-American women to become a chemist. She was known as both an organic and analytical chemist. Hill worked on the properties of ultraviolet light, developing analytic methodology, and, in collaboration with her husband Carl McClellan Hill, developing ketene synthesis which supported the development of plastics. She is believed to be one of the first African-American women to be awarded with a master's degree in chemistry. Hill was an analytical chemist, designing spectroscopic methods and developing ways to track the progress of the reactions based on solubility.
After gaining her degree, Hill began teaching in 1930 at VSU's Laboratory High School. In 1932 she taught chemistry part-time at the Hampton Institute, becoming a full-time faculty member in 1937.  From 1938 to 1942, she taught at VSU. Hill also undertook graduate study at the University of Pennsylvania in the summers, awarded the first master's degree in chemistry to an African-American woman in 1941.
She taught at Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina, for one year before she was appointed an assistant professor of chemistry at Tennessee A & I State College, a historically black college now known as Tennessee State University. She was a professor of chemistry at Tennessee A & I State College from 1944 to 1962, and was the acting head of the chemistry department from 1951 to 1962. In 1962, her husband, Carl McClellan Hill, who had been the dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Tennessee A & I, accepted the position as president of Kentucky State College now Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Kentucky. Mary Hill followed her husband to Kentucky State and was appointed a professor of chemistry.
Mary and Carl worked together as a team, with Mary specializing as an analytical chemist. The Hills used Grignard reagents to develop chemical syntheses of ketenes, which was funded by grants from the National Science Foundation(NSF) and the U.S. Air Force. Mary Hill developed the analytical methods for the work, and specialized using monomeric ketenes.  She utilized spectroscopic methods, including ultraviolet spectrophotometry in her studies and worked to develop analytical methods to track the progress of chemical reactions.  Her methods were used to determine the solubility of different components in non-aqueous solutions, which enabled synthetic chemists in their group to identify, isolate, and quantify products. Applicable processes included the polymerization of ketenes, which is used in the synthesis of plastics.
Mary Hill instituted student chapters of the American Chemical Society at some of the historically black colleges and universities where she taught. It is estimated that at least 20 of her students went on to become chemistry professors, and she won awards for her teaching.  She was also a member of the Tennessee Academy of Science, the National Institute of Science, Alpha Kappa Alpha National Honor Society, and Beta Kappa Chi.

Thomas DeSaille Tucker or Thomas DeSaliere Tucker (July 21, 1844 – 1903) was a lawyer, educator, and missionary. He was the first president of the State Normal College for Colored Students.
He was born in Victoria, British Sierra Leone. His mother was the daughter of Sherbro chief Harry Tucker, while his father was said to be an Englishman or a French explorer. He attended the Mende Mission of the American Missionary Association.
Missionary George Thompson brought 12-year-old Tucker to the US. He enrolled in the preparatory program at Oberlin College. He graduated with his AB. He took a leave to teach at the AMA’s school for emancipated enslaved at Fortress Monroe. He taught at schools in Georgetown, Kentucky, and New Orleans.
He studied law at Straight University and graduated with his LL.B. He was admitted to the bar in Florida and opened a law partnership with J.D. Thompson in Pensacola.
He was appointed the first president of the State Normal College for Colored Students. He presided over the school’s relocation to Tallahassee, on property that was once the Highwood Plantation of Governor William Pope Duval, and an infusion of funds thanks to the Second Morrill Act.
His presidency came to an end as a result of conflicts with William N. Sheats, who became Superintendent of Public Instruction. Sheats was a racist and white supremacist and opponent of miscegenation and Black political participation who was the namesake of the notorious 1895 Sheats Law enforcing strict racial segregation in schools. Sheats supported Black schools and was an admirer of Booker T. Washington’s advocacy of agricultural and industrial education. Tucker favored a liberal arts approach to education designed for public school teachers and, despite changing the name of the school to the State Normal and Industrial College for Colored Students, did not sufficiently emphasize the agricultural and industrial approach favored by Sheats. His authority was reduced, expenditures and personnel decisions were disputed and investigated, and finally, he was ousted. He resumed the practice of law in Jacksonville. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

He studied at Columbus College of Art and Design and received his MFA at Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2007. His photography has been featured in numerous publications and books such as National Geographic, the Huffington Post, and Sotheby’s. When Eric isn’t shooting freelance or working in the studio, his day job is the Senior Staff Photographer at the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields where he documents the collection and happenings. Last year, Eric was awarded the Crystal DeHaan Artist of Distinction Award for aspirational visual arts projects. He has shown work throughout the country. Eric’s most recent work Deconstruct/Reconstruct is an exploration of how language, life, and plants intersect.
Deconstruct/Reconstruct: Technology as Still life
This body of work came about by exploring the idea of juxtaposing language and flowers. This intersection of the natural world and human involvement reveals connections to various times and places. The flowers give the impression that they have grown into, out of, or from within the radio. These radios (Outdated and discarded pieces of technology) become vessels for the flowers. I use the flowers as objects to symbolize calmness, stillness, a safe space, and beauty. Holding up these idyllic metaphors next to an overwhelming topic such as technology provides me a vantage point to recontextualize. www.ericlubrick.com @ericlubrick

CRAP NOIR > GIOVANA PASQUINI
Tumblr media
 [ Veja o review aqui https://blogdojuanesteves.tumblr.com/post/137357083486/5-dvds-antonio-saggese-carlos-moreira-emidio ].
Tumblr media
Tumblr media

Hello to new and old followers
So I figured I’d give a shout to people, do a little bit about me, since I haven’t in a while. I’m an assistant manager at a local, family owned coffee shop, I’ve worked for them for the past 11 years. It was my boss who encouraged me to go back to college and finish my degree, saying I was far too smart to just work at a coffee shop. I sling coffee and tea, manage the social media pages, and handle maintenance and upkeep. I’m a Graphic Design major. My focuses being graphic design, printmaking (traditional, digital, and 3D), Jewelry and Metalsmithing, and Ceramics. Art and design has always been a very big part of my life. I also study constitutional law in my spare time -- because it’s good to be well-rounded right? Oh and I do quite a bit of studying finance as well as lots of historical writings. The Federalists Papers, Anti Federalist Papers, speeches, biographies, etc. I hold subscriptions to The Economist, Bloomberg Businessweek, and Kiplinger Personal Finance magazines, as well as nearly a decade-old subscription to The New York Times.
You can follow me on Instagram, @nerdyfordesign twitter: @nerdyfordesign and even here @nerdyfordesign -- for a blog I’m going to start this fall on my college studies. I spend a lot of time preparing for my future. I write about current events here, and occasionally past political events, and constitutional law. I’m attempting to spend my semesters growing my Instagram account as a launchpad for building my name in design circles -- although twitter tends to be exclusively towards current events. I’m putting a lot of time into trying to make my degree as versatile as possible post-college. Making notes on ways to apply my degree in different areas, trying to make sure I know ways to apply things I learn in one medium to others, building a design bible or sorts of ideas or plans I can’t yet do because of financial, or space, or time limitations that I want to revisit in the future. I also spend a lot of time trying to get my financial house in order -- or grow it. Laying the groundwork for my post-college plans -- like moving from Kentucky to Massachusetts. Or replacing my 2011 Dodge Avenger (when it finally bites the dust -- I’ll drive it into the ground but I plan on buying a far more eco-frendly ride to replace it with.) Or buying up design equipment, I replaced my under-powered PC a few years ago, purchased a drafting table, and have picked up two Epson printers so far. Eventually I’d like to grab a 3D printer and a Glowforge or two (sadly these things cost lots of money so I’ve not taken the plunge in either -- being an assistant manager at a coffee shop looks like a glamorous lifestyle, but I’m not exactly rolling in dough currently). I favor both Acorns investment app and Coinbase for my investing needs. You can find Acorns here: https://share.acorns.com/leonfellpool
and coinbase here:
https://www.coinbase.com/join/barnet_j44
You dont have to use those links, a simple search will find you both platforms, and both have android and ios apps, however if you do decide to use either to sign up, I’ll receive a small referral bonus, and that would get me slightly further towards my goals. (I dont have any stake in any of the other things I’ve listed, I just think they are good reading). Acorns is a wonderful app to “set it and forget it” for building wealth over the long-term. They also offer an extremely low-cost IRA option and a checking account. It’s the platform I’ve used to try and save money for replacing my car or maybe being a homeowner one day. You can also find me on Redbubble @leonfeloni for art and design pieces I’m selling. A lot of my fall semester will be focused on building that store with works to sell.
I’m also passionate about people considering using folding@home. It’s a platform that allows you to lend some of your spare processing cycles when you are not using the computer to projects trying to find cures to illnesses. By “Folding” they are referring to running simulations of proteins (not the whey kind) to find cures for things like COVID, Alzheimer's, etc. It runs in the background when you are not actually using your computer, but it’s powered. Look into it and see if it’s something you’d consider joining. Especially if you have an old laptop you never use, you can just power it up, boot F@H and set it to stay awake when your laptop lid is closed and just let it run. I have two laptops in my bedroom setup just to do that, once I realized I wasn’t really using either that often currently. Anyway, that's just a little update post thing about stuff.
