A shocking number of people got tattoos of the Domino's logo in hopes of scoring free pizza for life

There are two kinds of people in this world: Those who say they love pizza, and those who are willing to go the extra mile to prove they love pizza by getting the Domino's logo tattooed on their bodies.

You might not think there are many who fall into the latter category, but after a Domino's location in Russia announced a marketing promotion in which the chain promised 100 free pizzas per year for 100 years to Domino's fans who got tattoos of the company logo, it's clear there are.

In fact, so many people got Domino's tattoos that the company had to end the promotion after only five days, Business Insider reported.

The promotion, which began on August 31, was announced on the Domino's team's VKontakte page, a Russian social media platform much like Facebook.

"We are launching an unprecedented campaign where every participant who made a tattoo with our logo will receive a certificate for a free pizza for 100 years," the post translates. There were, however, several conditions set in place.

First, the tattoo had to be located in "a prominent place," and those participating were expected to share photos of the tattoo on social media. Domino's Russia also noted that the tattoos would be checked for authenticity, and added that those who did receive a lifetime pizza certificate would be restricted to a limit of no more than 100 pizzas per year.

While the Domino's Russia team probably thought very few people would accept the challenge, within just five days more than 300 people reportedly got tatted up and demanded their free pizza. In response, the promotion — which was originally supposed to run until October 31 — ended early on September 4.

"Friends, we already have 350 participants !!!" Domino's wrote in a new post on September 4, suggesting that others who did not get the tattoo in time consider canceling their appointments.

A spokesperson for Domino's explained that the campaign was launched by the "independent master franchisee in Russia exclusively for their market," so Domino's fans elsewhere will definitely want to hold off on future tattoo plans.

Domino's in Russia has yet to return a request for comment, but it seems the team significantly underestimated how far people will go for free pizza.
