Fic Update: When Doves Cry, Chapter 17
Chapter 17 of my fic, When Doves Cry is now available on FF.net and AO3.
If you unfamiliar with this fic, and you need to start at the beginning (or just need a re-read to refresh), you can start here or here, respectively.
Summary: She loved him as an adolescent, he admired her from afar; each thought their difference in station an insurmountable obstacle. Years later, Princess Emma and Lt. Killian Jones enter into a marriage of convenience, having long ago given up on obtaining the other's love. Can they overcome tragedy and re-discover each other again?
Rating: M for sex, mature themes, triggers.
Edited because I was so nervous-sick about posting that forgot to tag the usual suspects, originally: @klar425, @strawwolf, @nummygraphics, @walkerfairytales, @iamanneenigma

Summary: After several long years, Emma and Killian are finally getting the second chance they thought was beyond reach. At the same, Henry Mills is still struggling to find his own story while beloved family members live out theirs. Belief and hope guiding him, he leans on his other mother, Regina, and another version of his stepfather, Captain Hook, to help him write his next chapter. Rating: Mature

Author’s Note: I’m sorry it’s been so long. I am the actual worst at updating. I’ve been struggling with balancing my schoolwork, working full time and managing my depression/anxiety. I hope you enjoy this chapter. This was not betaed.
At the bottom of their stairs, Emma paused for a moment and just watched Killian at work in the kitchen. At first, he had been nervous at cooking with modern appliances but quickly got the hang of it. He found her and Henry’s diet absolutely horrifying and set out on a one man mission to ensure better nutritional intake. Killian had brought home so many cookbooks over the last decade that he now had a whole shelf on their bookshelf (double row, mind you) that was dedicated to his love of food.
He was singing softly to himself and Emma couldn’t understand the words, but she just loved watching him in his element. She stood silently watching him for several minutes.
Her reverie was broken by her husband’s voice. “Enjoying the view, love,” Killian asked without turning around.
“How do you do that?” Emma asked, descending the remaining steps and taking a seat at their kitchen table. “You always know when I’m behind you.”
“Maybe it’s just my spidey senses tingling?” Killian suggested, turning to hand her a cup of cocoa. Emma giggled at her husband’s reference. He just absorbed the reading material of this world and, thanks to Henry, that also included comic books. Killian had become a master of modern references, not just for comic books, but books and movies even Emma had never read or seen.
“No, seriously? How do you know when I’m standing watching you cook,” Emma demanded as he placed a plate in front of her and turned back for his own.
He took a seat across from her and sipped his coffee briefly before setting it back on the table. He smiled. “The floorboard of the third step from the bottom creaks ever so slightly. I may be old, but my hearing is far superior to many a tenth of my age, just tuned from years at sea, listening to the Jolly.”
“Is that how you always caught Henry when he would sneak out?” Emma asked, already knowing the answer.
Killian finished chewing the bit of omlet he had just put in his mouth before responding, “Aye. How’d you always know if you couldn’t hear the stairs?”
Emma looked at her husband and wondered how they never had this conversation when Henry or any of their foster kids were growing up. “A mother just knows,” Emma deadpanned.
“Oh, really?” Killian challenged, eyes sparkling with mischief. Emma made a small hmm sound and nodded, straight-faced for a second before Killian’s smile broke her resolve.
Emma held out her hand and a small white device appear in her hand. She held it up so Killian could see the lights on it, one for each door or window on the house. “I used a magical charm that made this device light up with the corresponding offender’s window or the main doors of the house.” She closed her palm and the device disappeared back to its place in her nightstand.
Killian’s robust laughter at her explanation warmed her heart. Laughter was exactly what their house needed more of. Her hand rested on her stomach, praying the child in her womb would be alright. Emma had had enough grief and hardship for many lifetimes.
Noticing her frown, Killian spoke up, “Why don’t we move to the couch and grab a blanket or two and spend the day watching some movies since your dad is covering the sheriff’s office again today?”
“Sounds like a plan, you get to make the popcorn,” Emma declared, getting up to put her dirty dishes in the dishwasher.
“Sure, love,” Killian agreed, not inclined to deny her anything she may desire. Emma was glad he didn’t comment about her wanting popcorn at the early hour or so soon after her breakfast.
She settled on the couch, grabbing the remote and navigating to Netflix, picking a new Netflix original series she had been meaning to watch when she had time. It’d be nice to take a day to binge watch a new show with her husband. Though she imagined once she got to the end of her pregnancy between her father, husband and everyone else in this town, she’d have plenty of time on her hands then. She settled in and relaxed for the first time in days.
To be continued…

Tangled Up In Blue ‘Deleted Scene’
Chapter 3: Beautiful and Broken
Summary: Killian meets Emma for the first time (Killian's POV)
Notes: This isn't much, but it's been sitting in my drafts for months, and I didn't have anything more to add to it without going into a different scene, so I just decided to post it. I didn't want to repeat the entire scene, so it's mainly just his thoughts.
*TRIGGER WARNING* Mentions of domestic violence
Read from the beginning: Tangled Up In Blue
Deleted Scenes: 1 2
Also available on: AO3 FFN
It had been a particularly long day at the clinic as Killian made his way down the corridor, nodding to various staff as he passed. It was busy that morning, lots of hustling and bustling to get to one appointment to the next. Killian regretted staying out so late the night before, when Liam talked him into going to another bar after Killian had made it perfectly clear that he was not interested.
It wasn't that Killian wasn't grateful for Liam and his attempts at getting him “back on the sailboat,” as his brother would put it. Killian was lucky to have a brother who cared so much, who was willing to be his wingman, trying to scout out every attractive and available woman he could, to chat her up and then introduce to Killian if she seemed acceptable enough.
However, even if there was the slightest hint of a connection between Killian and this lass, he couldn't fathom the possibility of being with someone other than his Milah. If connection and good looks were what Killian sought after, he'd have probably asked Dr. Tink out a long time ago. He just wasn't the outgoing, free-spirited, ‘hook up with a stranger from a bar’ type of lad.
No, he had become more of a lone wolf since his wife's passing, and was perfectly content with that. He was perfectly content with the company he was acquainted with at work. The many amazing, kind-hearted women who passed through the doors of the clinic - those were the women he cared to conversate with, those were the women who gave him life.
Taking over the clinic was of course more challenging than he’d ever imagined, but his patients and staff helped get him through the day. It had helped heal him in a way he couldn't quite understand. Although, he always felt like something was missing in his life. A void he couldn't seem to fill.
Killian grabbed the file from the door, ready for his next appointment as he scanned over the patient’s information.
Emma Swan, twenty-seven year old female, seventeen weeks pregnant, experiencing mild abdominal pains.
Killian looked up from the chart with a curious expression. Not only was she a new patient, but he'd never heard of her before. He was hoping that it wasn't one of the lasses from out of town who he’d met at the bar. That had happened on occasion, so he always expected it when he didn't recognize a patient - because he knew every female in Storybrooke. He’d given most of them at least a pap smear at one point or another.
Killian entered the room, not really knowing what to expect.
After shutting the door, he turned around to face the woman who sat on the exam table, and what he saw shocked him to his very core. She wasn't one of his usual patients, that was for sure.
“Miss Swan is it? I'm Dr. Killian Jones.”
Killian maintained a friendly demeanor when he greeted her, but inside, he felt his heart squeezing so much, he thought it might burst. This blonde, pregnant woman sitting on the bed reminded him of Milah right off the bat. There was pain in her eyes, and not the pain from a broken heart. No, this was a different kind completely. He’d recognized the look in her eyes because his late wife had the same look before she had run away with him.
He could spot a battered woman from miles away. The hopelessness, the wreckage, the mile-high walls, the fear, the distrust.
Although, there was something else lingering there as well, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. Maybe determination?
Emma shook her head, speaking in a stumbled slur. “You can't be my doctor...”
Killian was disappointed, but the last thing he wanted to do was make her feel uncomfortable. In fact, he was relieved when she told him she wanted a different OBGYN. Then she changed her mind, and all of a sudden his entire body was quivering, but he did his best not to let it show. He couldn't bare the thought of putting his hands on a battered woman, even if it were for medical purposes. Especially when Emma started crying in front of him.
His heart broke into a million pieces.
He decided he would do whatever he could to help her, even though he discovered she was leaving and he would probably never see her again.
After the appointment, Killian walked Emma to the exit doors, and she flashed him a broken smile, but it was beautiful at the same time.
Beautiful and broken.
“It was very nice to meet you Miss Swan. Best wishes to you,” Killian managed, pulling out a card from his pocket and handing it to her. “If you do need anything or have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to call my cellphone, day or night.”
“Thank you.” Emma glanced at the card before tucking it into her bag. “Goodbye, Dr. Jones.”
“Goodbye, Miss Swan.”
With that, she turned around, and Killian watched as she walked out of the clinic.
For years, Killian had felt empty inside since his wife died. Even his brother couldn't get past his extremely high walls, but somehow, his heart tugged in a way it hadn't in a very long time.
Slipping his hands into the pocket of his lab coat, he walked over to the windows of the waiting room, his eyes fixated on her as she got into her yellow bug. She reminded him of Milah so much, it was frightening. Of course, they looked nothing alike, but the fear that was a stable component in Emma's eyes and facial expressions, was the same.
All of the emotions he felt when he first met Milah came rushing back to him.
Killian captured and savored every last second he could of Emma until she started pulling away, as though he were trying to imprint her into his memories permanently.
“Dr. Jones... your next patient is ready for you.”
Killian craned his neck, flashing the nurse a small smile. “Thank you.” With one final glance of the blonde who was driving out of the parking lot, he had to peel himself away from his spot in front of the window before turning around and heading to his next appointment.
Even though he would never see her again, Killian knew he would never be the same again.

Rogues Rising: A Star (Wars) Baker Story, chapter 1
by @mediumsizedfountain/jncar
Jyn Erso has been burned by both life and love, but over the past two years she's made efforts to become the best, strongest, most confidant version of herself. The capstone to that project is her run as a contestant on her favorite television program – the Great British Bake Off. When she learns that her surrogate uncle and favorite taste-tester has been going behind her back to taste another baker's wares, she feels a spark of resentment. That spark intensifies when she discovers that very rival baker will be a fellow contestant on the show; his name is Cassian Andor.
Soon, however, the spark of resentment transforms into a very different kind of heat – a smoldering romantic attraction, which Cassian very clearly reciprocates. Can Jyn find the perfect recipe for achieving her Star Baker ambitions while at the same time embracing her burgeoning romance with one of her competitors? There's only one way to find out. On your marks. Get set. Bake!
A Great British Bake Off (Great British Baking Show) crossover AU, featuring Rogue One and original trilogy characters.
Week 1: Cake
“What do you think?” Jyn asked, watching as Chewie finished off his enormous mouthful of her chocolate hazelnut torte.
The tall, bushy-bearded pub owner had been her go-to taste tester for years, and with the competition starting this weekend, she needed the opinion of his excellent palate now more than ever. He smacked his lips a few times. “Very good. But the black forest cake was better. That's the one you ought to go with.”
“Are you certain? Everything depends on this.” She locked eyes with him, refusing to look away. She'd never been more serious about anything in her life.
“I'd stake my right arm on it, lass,” he replied, grinning, the skin around his eyes scrunching into familiar wrinkles. “The black forest might not get you star baker, but it'll keep you in the game.”
She grimaced. “I don't just want to be in the game – I want to win it.”
“Yes, but we both know cake isn't your strongest skill. You'll be sure to knock their socks off with your bread and pastry. Do the black forest. Trust me.” He gave her a sure nod.
Jyn didn't like resigning herself to the middle of the pack, but Chewie was right. She ought to play it safe for this first episode. She nodded. “Alright. I'll do it.”
“Good girl.” Chewie grinned and patted the bar between them. “When you left that black forest with me last week, I gave a bite to my other baker-friend, and he loved it. Said it was the best black forest he'd ever had.”
Jyn narrowed her eyes. “Other baker friend? Who are you talking about? You've never mentioned another baker friend, before.”
“Haven't I? Coulda sworn I had. He's an immigrant – Mexican fellow, if you can believe it. Works in some fancy robotics laboratory or some such. Been coming to the pub for close to a year, now, but I only found out about his baking a couple of months back when I let him try some biscuits you left for me. He's been trying out his own recipes on me ever since. Between the two of you, I think I've gained more than a half a stone.” He patted his round belly with a laugh.
Jyn frowned. She knew Chewie shared her bakes with other regulars, but she had no idea another baker had been using his taste buds for their own trial runs. It shouldn't bother her, but it did – almost like he'd been cheating on her. “You didn't tell him about the show, did you? I don't want it spread around, yet. Not so far in advance of the series being aired.”
“Didn't mention a thing,” Chewie said. “Told him you liked to enter local competitions was all. He said he's planning on doing the same. Surprised you two haven't run into each other, actually. He's not much older than you – man by the name of Cassian.”

Sharks play the Rangers tonight.... And all I could think about is a scene where Will gets upset that the Sharks get to come out on the ice in a giant Shark head and thinks the team should try and trick the crowd by coming out on the ice through it. And Killian says no but Emma and Ruby think it'd be hilarious and get the Sharks on board for the hilarity.
Tumblr media
Don’t make me write the thing. Don’t make me do it. I’m going to do it. Under the cut because of who I am as a person:
“It’s insane.”
“Scarlet, we’ve been over this, it’s part of the name,” Ruby sighed, tugging her hair over her shoulder and glaring at Will like she was waiting for the objection. He sighed. Loudly. “Tradition. I don’t know what you expect me to do about it.”
Will shrugged, looking at both Killian and Robin for support and he was going to do permanent damage to his throat if he groaned that loudly again. “Get us something cool too,” he said, as if it were obvious. “Our own shark head.”
“You don’t play for the Sharks,” Emma pointed out.
She tilted her head when Will glared, actually sticking his tongue out, and Killian’s arm tightened around her waist when she laughed. She had to sling her arm around his shoulders to keep her balance, only one foot on the floor from her perch on his thighs and she probably should have gotten her own stool, but they were leaving the restaurant soon and they had a flight to catch in a few hours and a West Coast swing that was critical to the standings. At least that’s how Arthur was quoted in The Post that morning.
Emma was fairly sure he ripped it up during morning skate.
“And it’s kind of weird,” Robin added, tugging a plate of fries towards him. Roland and Henry were both asleep in their own booth, jerseys still on from a win over the Caps. “I mean why the head? That’s just creepy.”
“Creepy,” Killian echoed, chest shaking a bit underneath Emma’s hand. He kissed her temple when she dropped her head onto his shoulder, holding one hand out expectantly to Robin. “Give me some of those fries.”
“You ate, Cap.”
“I skated for twenty minutes tonight. Give me the goddamn fries.”
“Testy,” Ruby chuckled, eyes a hint sharper than normal when she grabbed her own handful of fries. Killian shook his head. “Scarlet, I don’t know what you want me to tell you. You are not on the Sharks. You are, at least to my knowledge, not facing an imminent trade to the Sharks, you cannot come onto the ice through a shark head when we play in San Jose. This is not your first season in the league. Why are you complaining about this?”
Will shrugged, leaning over the bar to grab a glass and fill it with something when Regina started shouting, barely lifting her eyes away from her phone. “We could probably get him some interest from the Sharks,” she said. “You want to play in the Pacific, Scarlet?”
“God, Gina, c’mon,” he muttered. “That’s not what I was talking about. I just think it’s unfair that there are shark heads involved in the National Hockey League and we don’t get to do anything with them.”
“Think about the structure of that sentence,” Killian mumbled, drawing a laugh out of Emma when she tried to tug her phone out of her back pocket. “Swan, what are you trying to do?”
She grinned. “Answer Scarlet’s questions. Also, Scarlet, as an aside, if you mention to anyone in graphics that you don’t think our on-ice arrival isn’t award-worthy, they’ll probably all try and murder you with a zamboni or something.”
“They’d have to catch me first,” Will muttered.
“You are not that fast.”
He stuck his tongue out again.
“The shark head was built in 1993,” Emma read, glancing down at her phone. “And now they have fan events where people can skate through it and take their picture in it and, oh, it wasn’t supposed to ever be moved, but they took it to Candlestick for that outdoor game.”
“Levi,” Ruby corrected, grinning when Emma waved a dismissive hand through the air. “Didn’t they blow up Candlestick?”
“I think it’s the parking lot now,” Killian muttered, squeezing his arm when Emma sighed as dramatically as she possibly could.
“It cost almost $5,000 to move the shark head,” Emma continued. “Shit that’s a ton of money. Man, this is a weird team. Did you know their mascot was born out of a zamboni?” Robin nearly choked on a fry. “Seriously,” she said. “S.J. Sharkie. That’s not even all that creative. And, oh, the head thing was only supposed to happen for one game, but it’s ridiculous so people loved it and now they do it all the time.”
“I’m telling you, we are getting cheated out of a cool on-ice entrance,” Will grumbled, downing the rest of whatever was in his glass in three, quick gulps and Ruby shrugged when Emma caught her eye.
“I don’t see why not,” she said. “It’d be funny.”
“Backpage worthy,” Emma added and Ruby already had her phone pressed to her ear, talking a mile a minute as she jumped off her stool.
Will’s eyes went wide. “What is she doing? Emma? What is Lucas doing?”
“Go home, Scarlet, you’ve got an early flight to catch.”
It took a few more phone calls and Emma’s promise that they would sell the game-worn jerseys in some kind of joint auction to benefit both the Sharks and the Rangers and Will looked a bit like a kid on Christmas morning when she told him, throwing his arms around her neck and hugging her tight enough that her feet came off the floor.
And they made some sort of history – the first other team to skate through the shark head, met with the nearly overwhelming sound of boos and jeers and it made the backpage of The Post and the front page of Sports Illustrated and “The Best Thing I Saw Today” on the midnight edition of Sports Center.
“That was insane,” Will said, hours later and they’d won, but it almost didn’t matter because the pictures on Emma’s phone were enough to make the entire goddamn season feel worth it.

Depression can warp your mind in what “success” really is. I struggle with it too, but it helps to stop comparing myself to others… Its hard. But when I get my brain to quiet down about that… I realize life isn’t as bad as depression wants me to think it is… Just keep fighting ok? You’re going to be ok.
It’s hard not to compare myself to others when my family tend to remind me of it every day like “Oh, did you hear what XY is doing now? That’s impressive” or “Why can’t you be like XY?”. That’s what hurts the most I think.

Author’s Note: I’m sorry it’s been so long. I finally finished my CSLB story and artwork and until my posting date, I’d like to get caught up with my many WIP, starting here. This was not betaed. Smut below the cut. Enjoy!
Emma awoke the next morning feeling sore and still incredibly tired. She looked at the clock on her bedside table and groaned softly. It was only 4:28am, too damn dark outside yet to be awake. If that wasn’t clue enough, her husband was still asleep behind her. He rarely sleep in, though after the last few days Emma could hardly blame him if he did.
“Love, go back to sleep,” Killian mumbled sleepily, pulling her body flush against his.
“Okay,” she conceded, closing her eyes and finding comfort in his warm embrace.
Emma moaned again and quickly found herself on her back. Killian kissed her hip and parted her legs. Killian ghosted several kisses on her thighs, smiling at her when he glanced up. Killian laughed at the anger and annoyance that were probably radiating from her gaze. Emma had had enough.
“Killian, enough foreplay! I just need you to fuck me,” Emma begged, not caring how desperate she sounded. She really needed this. They both did. Killian swore under his breath and sheathed himself in her cunt in one swift movement. “Oooohhh, you feel so wonderful but I saw to God if you don’t move, I’ll make you regret it,” Emma hissed, the need to be fucked trumping all else.
“As you wish.” The words still managed to send a chill down her spine after all these years. Killian’s sudden thrusting pushed the air from her lungs. She gasped loudly as he thrust again and again, harder each time. She knew this wouldn’t last very long, but that wasn’t the point. She was so goddamn horny these days she just needed to get off.
Killian’s hand and blunt wrist held her steady, pulling her body to his as he thrust. Beads of sweat rolled down his forehead, his eyes kept falling closed and Emma knew he was close.
“I need more,” she pleaded, knowing he wouldn’t leave her behind. He shifted slightly and pressed his blunted wrist against her clit, circling recklessly, the pressure and the thrusts sending Emma crashing over the edge.
“Emma!” Killian cried out, spilling his seed into her. Killian collapsed and rolled to their sides before separating from her body.
Emma sighed as she curled against Killian’s side. “Better, love?”
Before she could give and answer, her stomach growled loudly. Emma laughed before getting up to pee. “I will be better once I eat. Eating for two, remember?”
Killian fell back against the pillow as Emma closed the door. Emma emerged a few minutes later to find the bedroom deserted. The soft clatter of objects in their kitchen was confirmation that her husband was working to honor her request for food. Emma had to say even after all this time together, it still made her stomach flutter that he wanted to take care of her. Not just in protecting her from whatever villain graced the town, but in little ways.
Emma decided that she’d give him time to make the food before she went downstairs. She turned on her heels and went back into the bathroom.
Turning the shower knob to as hot as she could stand, she gave it a few moments to get to temperature. Emma starred in the mirror. The gentle swell that was visible without her clothing was exciting. Part of her brain told her she shouldn’t be so excited, but she squashed it. Emma jumped into the shower, sighing as the hot water washed over her. After several minutes of just standing under the hot spray, Emma grabbed a washed cloth and set about scrubbing herself clean. Emma used a large amount of shampoo since she hadn’t cleaned her hair in days.
The water started to lose its heat so Emma hurried rinse her hair. Turning off the water, Emma grabbed a towel from the rack beside the shower and toweled herself dry. Within less than five minutes, she had brushed her hair into a messy knot, applied a little bit of makeup and brushed her teeth. Returning to the bedroom she picked out a comfy pair of pajamas and a clean pair of socks. She could smell food downstairs, to the relief of her empty stomach, so as soon as she was dressed she made her way downstairs excited for the vast array of food her husband had no doubt prepared.
