Funny story, I actually recently wrote a research paper for my English class and my topic was over the rise of AI! Technically it was mainly covering generative AI, but I also touched on these robotic dogs.
while the Spot dog is something we've known since Boston Dynamics came out with those blasted things, there is another one we should be worried about as well!
Knightscope has been talking about security-style robots all the way back in 2014, and have actually came out with some and some police forces in New York have utilized these robots for graveyard shifts and general surveillance. So not only do we have the Spot to worry about, but also new forms of technology to face. And while Knightscope claimed the robots did not come with facial recognition in their cameras, that does not prevent police from adding that programming into the machines after purchase.
Many who know me know I love robots, but purely in a fictional setting. Hell, I've even drawn myself as a robot to try and make a persona out of a robot. Characters like Hal900, Baymax, C3PO, Wall-e or any of the cute robot characters we have in media is a fantasy and should stay that way. These machines are very much real and very much a concern.
