Knightstrike 1!
This was a crossover special that I only bought for completion sake. It,uh, it was not good. I get that I bought part 6 of 9 of a crossover I didn’t read, but the art in here is just bizarre. Completely rushed, looks like they just inked sketches. I’d love to know the story behind what happened here. Don’t buy this. Sorry…

Part I- Blood Brothers
With the launch of Image Comics, founding partner Rob Liefeld exploded out of the gate with the first issue of Youngblood- following the adventures of a government-sponsored super team while planting the seeds of a connected cast of characters that would be populating the “Extreme Studios” universe.
The first addition to that universe would be Brigade, a team of vigilantes led by the mysterious Battlestone. The initial Brigade miniseries would run concurrently with Youngblood and it even revealed on the first page that Battlestone was the former leader of Youngblood (which would be shown in detail in Youngblood #0)!
After a mysterious “Blood Brothers” pin-up in Brigade #2, the connected universe continued to grow with an advertisement in Youngblood for Extreme’s next team book, Bloodstrike. It debuted the following year and showcased a government black ops team made up of mercenaries and soldiers that had died but had been resurrected by, “Project: Born Again.” The team leader was Cabbot Stone, Battlestone’s brother! The series launched with a crossover of the new Brigade ongoing series pitting brother against brother and team against team.
The first year for both these series culminated in a crossover of the full stable of Extreme Studios titles, Extreme Prejudice where the combined forces of the heroes fought the escaped villain (and Battlestone and Cabbot’s father), Quantum.
This shared universe would continue to overlap the titles and the backstory would even go further in detail with the revelation that Battlestone, Cabbot, (Youngblood’s) Chapel and Dutch and (Spawn’s) Al Simmons were all previously part of a mercenary squad called Knightstrike where the conflicts that these characters harbored for each other in the present were born. Fans that wanted to finally receive those details were left wanting as the story was never finished.
Part three of the Knightstrike miniseries turned out to be the final issue and this unresolved cliffhanger would become an accidental running theme of Brigade and Bloodstrike’s publishing history.
This is the first in a series of posts that will examine the missing and delayed chapters of the Brigade and Bloodstrike characters as the titles were published at various times over the last twenty five years. This will NOT be an exposé as to the whys and wherefores and is NOT a condemnation on Rob Liefeld, Extreme Studios or any of the creators involved or announced to be involved on any of the spotlighted books. It is simply a look back at the publishing history of certain characters during a fun era of the comic book industry.
To be continued...

Operation Knightstrike 1-3!
One of my first Image comics! I loved this early Image world building, giving all the big characters some kind of connective tissue. Finally tracked down issues 1&2, and looks like 3 was the best of all of them. Only issue that had actual super villains. Sadly they never finished the series. A major flaw of those early Image years.
