Thai style rolled ice cream. You can select your own flavors or choose from a menu of mixes. I went with the “one love” which is vanilla with strawberries and Oreos, topped with strawberry syrup; it was very good! I’ve become a big fan of tagging my posts to show where I am and what I’m doing as soon as I get somewhere. Many businesses are following tags and simply liking and/or following as a form of marketing; which is how I found this shop. In most cases I really don’t like marketing, but done in this subtle way can be great. I’ve found some cool places that I’m not so sure I would have found otherwise. A day in the life of Hippocrates home- the island of Kos

  It’s been a year since my first time in Kos but I stil have vivid images of this beautiful island of Dodecanese. First of all , we were not a couple of rookies since my boyfriend’s origin is from Kos and he used to visit it every summer since he was a little boy. So, that made me a complete stranger in the island yet a very promising tourist as I was very enthusiastic to wander around and learn about its great history.

 So, we arrive at about 6 o’ clock in the morning (we travelled by airplane) and we are quite beat because it was the weekend and we had both stopped our jobs for summer vacation on Friday-so, not much sleep. We go to the hotel where we are right on time for breakfast so we decide to eat a little because we are hungry and then go get some sleep. Our beautiful hotel is Hotel Esperia in the small village of Marmari, all neat, clean  with warm, hospitable people always there to help you and give you instructions for an excellent day in Kos.

  We sleep for about 2 hours (we so needed that) and since we are not that energetic to head off to the beach we decide to walk around the center of the town. We want to see the plane tree under which according to legend, Hippocrates of Kos (considered the father of medicine) taught his pupils the art of medicine (the tree is on the cover photo of this post). We then walk to see the famous palm tree avenue , an avenue friendly to bikers, filled with beautiful tall palm trees (obviously right?).

 We get in the car and drive to Asklepion, probably the major attraction of Kos island. According to ancient Greek mythology Asclepius was the god of medicine and healing. Asklepion was an institution where healers were curing their patients, trying to systematize medicine and teaching other people the art of healing. Lots of people there, quite a distance to walk around it, but so magnificent thinking all these great minds doing science, showing the way to modern medicine.

At night, we get back to the hotel to attend a Greek night where boys and girls dance traditional dances and invite the guests to join them. We have great cocktails, lots of fun, I dance too (at least I tried) and then we go to sleep . This day ends but there are 4 more days to come and we will try to explore as much as we can!

The days to come we will visit many great beaches of the island and I will fall in love with Kefalos and especially St Stefanos with its crystal clear blue waters. Peaceful beaches, not crowded, ideal for couples. I will also become obsessed with the food and arrange a future randevouz with Zia village and its delicious restaurants where I couldn’t eat because I was so full because of all the days and nights out with family . I will also remember how friendly and helpful people were.

And of course I will promise to come back soon!
