KPLC Reports Record High Electricity Demand, Plans for Continued Growth
Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has reported a significant increase in electricity consumption, with peak demand reaching a record high of 2,316 MW on February 12, 2025. According to KPLC's National Control Centre, electricity demand has been steadily rising over the past three years, with a noticeable acceleration in growth during 2024.
Tumblr media
In 2021, KPLC saw electricity demand surpass the 2,000 MW mark, followed by peaks of over 2,100 MW in 2022 and 2,200 MW in 2023. The momentum continued to build in mid-2024, driven by significant infrastructure developments aimed at stabilizing the National Grid.
Key projects that have contributed to this growth include the completion of the Kimuka 220/66kV substation by KETRACO, which introduced four 66kV feeder lines to serve Nairobi and neighboring counties. Additionally, the 33kV double circuit interconnector between Narok and Bomet, along with other network reinforcement initiatives, have bolstered power supply reliability.
KPLC also reported connecting over 198,535 new customers to the national grid in the last six months alone. The company anticipates continued growth in electricity demand in the short and medium term due to improved grid stability and the completion of connectivity projects. This includes the upcoming Last Mile Phases IV and V, which will connect an additional 289,121 customers.
In line with this demand, KPLC is promoting the adoption of e-cooking and electric motorization to further stimulate electricity consumption while supporting environmental conservation efforts. Last year, the company announced a Ksh.258 million investment over three years to boost electric vehicle and motorbike usage in the country. This initiative includes the establishment of charging stations and the purchase of electric vehicles for operational use.
While KPLC is working to improve efficiency and enhance revenue as demand peaks, the company faces challenges with the indicative firm capacity of 2,344 gigawatt hours.

I see so many people talking about "she didn't have the capacity to fully make the choice to rage because she's a teenager" full ignoring that "evil teenagers" are a convention of the genre. It's kind of similar to when people read a bunch of YA books and then say, "Why is the chosen one always a teenager?" and the answer is "because the genre is about teenagers." "Why is a teenager treated as a villain on the same level as adults?" and the answer is "because the protagonists are teenagers, and she is their peer." A peer who spent all year trying to fuck them over and then tried to kill 500 other teenagers. If you watch 80s movies (which are a huge inspiration for fantasy high), a lot of the time, the "bullies" are teenagers and also attempted murders who try to kill the protagonists (think any steven king novel adaptation) If an audience member doesn't like that and would prefer a more grounded approach that's fine, it just might not be the genre for them. If all teenagers are treated as too naive and incapable to be responsible for their decisions, then watching a group of them save the world would be much less satisfying.
Like I love kplc, but I love her as she is, because she's evil and cunty, and I love that her motivations are so petty and her hatred so visceral. Because the mixture of intensly evil acts combined with the petty motivations of a jealous teenager is such a staple of the genre, and I adore it. I can understand if it's not your preference, but I think all discussions of the characters should keep in mind the genre that they're in and how intentional it all is.
i feel like maybe you misread one of my many fhjy posts (understandable im firing them off at record speeds) bc i agree with this? i always saw klck as a bad person culpable for her own actions- like you said, that's what makes her compelling. an entire party of brainwashed teens is boring. its bad tv. i also think her character works better as a critique of someone growing up in comfort and privilege and thus feeling 'owed' when the world suddenly stops revolving around them than an infantilised + manipulated teen girl.
anyway i think you mightve meant to send this to someone else lol but it was a fun read regardless! we are not enemies.. its all love now

SULPHUR, La. (KPLC) - Over 55 years after the death of her son, a mother is being accused of being responsible for his violent death.
According to a report from Sulphur Police Department, on Thursday, March 27, Alice Bunch Idlett, 75, of Norwood, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder for the death of her son on Jan. 20, 1970.
In 2022, the Sulphur Police Department opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a child at the request of the child’s family.
Detectives said 16-month-old Earl D. Bunch III received injuries that were initially reported to be from falling out of a crib.
At the time of the child’s death, the father was serving overseas during the Vietnam conflict.
The case was ultimately closed due to a lack of evidence, according to Sulphur Police.
Recently, detectives obtained additional information that led to the exhumation of the child’s body, with the assistance of Gulf Coast Forensic Solutions.
The remains of Earl D. Bunch III were sent to the FBI for a forensic autopsy, which determined the manner of death as a homicide.
The Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office convened a Grand Jury, which provided a True Bill indicting Alice Bunch on the charge of second-degree murder.
Alice Bunch was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center on a $950,000 bond.
In a document from the Third Circuit on the hearing for the child custody case involving Alice Bunch and her child’s father, Earl Bunch Jr., Alice wrote many letters to Earl while he was stationed overseas expressing her feelings towards her son: “What is wrong with me darling. I should love my own son but I really don’t think I do and if I did I would know it. I feel as if he would die tomorrow I wouldn’t care. I can’t help it. To me he is the one who ruint (sic) my life.”
The document also conveys that when Alice took her son to the hospital, he was “limp and gasping for breath” and the physician who examined the baby said he observed “bite marks on Earl Dwayne’s body and a burn mark on his buttocks” and “multiple bruises over his body.” He died the following morning during emergency surgery.
Alice denied to Earl that she had anything to do with the death of her son, and he “probably fractured his skull when he fell out of bed at his grandmother’s house.”
Read the full document and all of Alice’s statements below.
