Models and Analogies For Teaching Electricity
What is actually going on inside a circuit? It’s impossible to see, and to explain it properly uses concepts way above primary school level. So how can we explain it? Time for a model! Electricity is an abstract idea.  We can see its effect on something like a light bulb, but it is very hard to understand what is happening inside a circuit. To help understand what is going on, we need to use…

@serikyl @begaydodrughailsaten You guys are killing me (/light-hearted, it's not your fault you don't know)
It is very much not a British thing, Eid is one of the most well-know Islamic religious holidays
Technically there are two Eids, Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Adha, but when someone just says Eid they usually mean Eid ul Fitr
Eid is the celebration of the end of Ramadan (which, in case you don't know, is a month of fasting during daylight hours, for various religious reasons that I don't remember confidently enough to explain rn), and Eid ul Fitr translates to "Festival of the Feast". I think it's also know as the Sugar Festival, if I remember right. Giant celebration, family and neighbours gather together to have a huge feast to celebrate the month of fasting being over. My best friend growing up was Muslim and since their family lived in Pakistan and couldn't travel easily, I've celebrated Eid with them a few times!
Just found out my friend has no idea what Eid is, head in my hands sobbing

Hey same anon who sent that smg34 ask. I didn't expect the long rant, but honestly I agree with you on most of it. I personally find the ship boring as well. But now I'm curious on how you feel about Axol x Melony, since you brought of it.
Personally I'm not a fan of it, mostly because of the writing.
Yeah sorry didn’t mean to go in a massive tangent. Just been thinking about it for a while and been waiting to talk about it.
Anyway, Axol and Melony.
They could have worked. But they were rushed. Their moments we cute at the time but nothing more. Melony and Axol have no real chemistry. It’s just cute girl x nice boy for the sake of shipping.
We knew that Axol liked Melony but there was never once ANY indication that Melony saw Axol as anything other than a friend. Not a blush, not a longing look, nothing. We got a SMALL implication near the end of Genisis but that could easily be interpreted as concern for her best friend.
For Axol and Melony to work, I needed to see them having good chemistry. Not just cute oblivious innocent girl x best friend who secretly has a crush on her” bc that is the most one dimensional shit I have ever seen.
Overall, they are the blueprint for a basic ass ship with no real chemistry. It’s just a ship for ship sake at that point. Which is fine but if you’re gonna make THAT the only canon ship in your show then bloody hell…
And then, both the fandom AND the show has made Axol’s death basically Melony’s whole personality!! All she does is sleep and hold an axolotl. That is it.
Character development for people who aren’t Meggy, SMG4, SMG3 and Mr Puzzles is just completely nonexistent. I miss the 2020 era where we could have a full episode dedicated to side characters like Shroomy, giving these background characters real personality and personal strife. We got to see into Shroomy’s family history, learn about how his bite came about, how Anti Shroomy used to be the sole owner of his body before the bite of 87, Shroomy’s relationship with his Uncle falling apart. WHY CANT WE HAVE STUFF LIKE THIS ANYMORE?!!
Kaizo is an example. He came about in that little KS2 arc and he hasn’t been used for shit since. Just background appearances. I’m sick of episodes focusing on SMG3, 4 and Meggy. If you look at the focus character for episodes last year, Three was the majority of them and people STILL complained when he wasn’t in an episode! I get he’s the fan favourite but my god, SMG1 hasn’t spoken since the holding hands episode!! LET ME SEE MY BOY!
It’s nice to see Karen and Swag being used in a few more episodes now though. They’re the only side characters we really consistently see anymore.
Got a little off topic there but yeah. Axol and Melony needed more time.

Engaging Key Stage 2 Maths Activities to Boost Learning and Confidence
Mathematics is a cornerstone of the Key Stage 2 (KS2) curriculum, providing pupils with essential skills that extend beyond the classroom. From mastering place value to solving complex multiplication problems, the right activities and teaching resources can turn learning into an exciting adventure. This blog explores a variety of engaging key stage 2 maths activities designed to help learners build confidence, practise key concepts, and develop a love for maths.
Why Focus on Key Stage 2 Maths?
Key Stage 2 serves as a critical phase in a student’s education, bridging the gap between early years foundation stage learning and the more advanced mathematics curriculum in secondary school. During KS2, pupils deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts like place value, subtraction, fractions, and times tables, all of which lay the groundwork for future success.
The national curriculum encourages teachers to use varied teaching strategies, from interactive activities to structured KS2 maths worksheets, ensuring that all learners grasp these fundamental skills. Incorporating engaging maths games and creative lessons not only aligns with the curriculum but also makes the learning process enjoyable.
The Importance of Engaging Activities in KS2 Maths Lessons
Engaging in key stage 2 maths activities helps students stay motivated and focused. With the rise of teaching resources from platforms like Twinkl and White Rose Maths, educators and parents can access a wealth of tools to support learning. These resources foster mathematics mastery by offering varied approaches to explaining concepts, such as place value or multiplication.
Interactive maths games and hands-on activities are particularly effective for kinaesthetic learners, as they encourage active participation. Meanwhile, structured KS2 maths worksheets and grade activities reinforce classroom teaching, helping learners practise and retain new skills.
Top Key Stage 2 Maths Activities
Below are some fun and engaging activities to incorporate into KS2 maths lessons:
1. Times Tables Bingo
Mastering multiplication is crucial for KS2 learners. Times Tables Bingo is a fun way to practise this skill. Teachers or parents can call out multiplication problems, and pupils must find the correct answers on their bingo cards. This activity helps learners quickly recall times tables while fostering friendly competition.
2. Fraction Puzzles
Understanding fractions can be challenging, but fraction puzzles make it more accessible. Create puzzles where pupils match equivalent fractions or piece together a fraction wall. This visual and tactile activity helps students grasp the concept of part-whole relationships.
3. Interactive Place Value Games
Place value is a foundational skill in KS2 maths. Use online maths games or physical resources like place value charts and counters to help pupils explore numbers. For example, learners can practise building numbers using base-ten blocks, making the abstract concept more tangible.
4. Maths Escape Room
Transform your classroom into a maths escape room where students solve puzzles to “unlock” the next clue. Incorporate subtraction, multiplication, and place value challenges to reinforce these concepts while keeping pupils engaged.
5. White Rose Maths Resources
White Rose Maths offers a range of interactive activities and worksheets aligned with the KS2 maths curriculum. These resources break down mathematical concepts into manageable steps, ensuring that all learners can achieve mathematics mastery.
6. Maths Around the World
Incorporate a geography twist by asking students to solve problems related to distances, time zones, or populations in different countries. This activity ties math with real-world applications and cross-curricular learning.
7. Times Tables Relay
Divide pupils into teams for a times tables relay race. Each team must solve a multiplication problem before passing the baton. This energetic activity encourages collaboration and quick thinking.
8. Twinkl Printable Worksheets
Twinkl offers a plethora of printable KS2 maths worksheets that cover a wide range of topics, from place value to fractions. These worksheets provide structured practice for learners and are excellent for homework or revision.
9. Shopping List Maths
Set up a pretend shop where students “buy” items using play money. This activity reinforces subtraction, addition, and place value skills while introducing practical applications of math.
10. Mathematics Mastery Challenges
Encourage higher-level thinking with open-ended challenges, such as designing a park with specific dimensions or calculating the cost of building materials. These activities promote creativity and critical thinking.

Use a Variety of Teaching Resources Incorporate maths games, KS2 maths worksheets, and visual aids to cater to different learning styles.
Reinforce Skills with Practise Regular practise of subtraction, place value, and multiplication ensures long-term retention. KS2 maths activity sheets and grade activities can supplement lessons.
Supporting Home Learning in KS2 Maths
For parents looking to support their child’s learning at home, there are plenty of homeschool resources and interactive activities available online. Platforms like Twinkl provide a wealth of resources tailored to the KS2 maths curriculum. Encourage your child to engage with maths games, complete worksheets, and practise times tables daily.
The Role of the Teacher in Building Maths Confidence
Teachers play a pivotal role in shaping students’ attitudes toward mathematics. By incorporating diverse lessons, providing clear explanations, and using engaging activities, educators can help learners build confidence in their abilities. Effective teaching also involves fostering a growth mindset, and encouraging pupils to see challenges as opportunities to improve.
