jake is learning very quickly that dwight fairfeild is an annoyingly good man. high strung as all hell - a touch neurotic, even - but kind, and very clearly capable. he's happy to talk at jake as they work, offering all sorts of information about himself without jake's prying . . . and jake doesn't get it. he doesn't know anything other than my first name, and he trusts me completely. why?

because he has no other choice. and, really, neither do you.

a curious glance from the corner of his eye shows dwight silently returning his attention to the generator. a familiar voice, his mother's, echoes: don't be so cruel. ' it's pak, actually, ' mumbled reply is barely audible over whirring generator, ' but when i was really little, my dad moved us out to the states, gave my brother and i different names, said it'd help us acclimate better. ' there's a ding, and as fluorescents shine down on two survivors, jake finally looks at dwight. ' pak jae-kuk. or just jake park. i've never really cared, either way. '
