Yeah, it is a horrible time for everyone!
(This got super long, so full rant is under the cut)
Ingo was raised to believe that his powers, like Emmet's, were a gift from one of the Dragons.
He's has been under the impression that his powers -- while unusually strong -- should be able to be controlled, and believes that he is at fault for his own lack of control.
In actuality, bonds are needed to temper the uncontrolled ice that Kyurem cursed him with at birth. The powers grew with age, and unfortunately, Ingo was cut off from the very thing he needed to have any hope of controlling them.
On Kyurem's side of things, however, it sought to spread the same agony of isolation that it felt to the humans that scorn it. Its curses, throughout the ages, always end in tragedy -- the cursed child is either killed, or goes mad and winds up dead by force or by choice.
Ingo is the first cursed child it has ever met, and it was intrigued by him. Here's this isolated, lost soul, deprived of the warmth all children should have, and yet he isn't mad. He's more sad, than anything, and desperate to keep his twin and kingdom safe.
So, curiously, it shares the secret of controlling its powers -- the warmth of bonds -- and forms a connection with Ingo. Ingo gets some control over his "gift," and Kyurem gets a bond for the first time in centuries, if not the first time ever.
So they both get solace and find a level of understanding in each other, and then things go wrong, and Emmet finds Ingo. Cue interaction and separation (may have dropped him down a chasm, oops), and Ingo's emotions becoming once again volatile and full of guilt.
Kyurem chooses arguably the worst time to confess that it cursed Ingo, because Ingo is already full of guilt and self-hatred for hurting Emmet again, and the Kyurem basically tells him that he was never meant to control himself.
Ingo was, as per Kyurem's interference, essentially born to sow misery in his family. Kyurem, when it cursed him, wanted him to be miserable, and to spread that cold hatred to those around him, because Kyurem couldn't do that itself.
Control wasn't ever anything Ingo was meant to have.
Needless to say, the abrupt realization that, frankly, none of this is Ingo's fault simultaneously lifted an enormous weight from his shoulders and incited the worst, most vicious wrath Kyurem has ever been on the receiving end of.
I remember mentioning that bonds need to be reciprocated and upheld. The bond between Ingo and Emmet is all but broken, and while Emmet keeps offering his end, Ingo never picks it up and ties it to his own, completing the connection.
Ingo breaks their bond just about immediately, which leaves them both worse off than they were before, because Kyurem can now properly mourn its isolation, and Ingo properly embraces his own (symbolized by his eyes adopting a sulfur tone and his skin turning pallid, almost gray, visually matching with Kyurem).
So... yeah, betrayal is a good word for it. Ingo has been trusting Kyurem and eagerly accepting its tutorship in the hopes of bettering himself, and then he finds out that... basically, it was this or death, and was always meant to be death.
Everything about Ingo's existence at that point in the fic is a happy (read as: miserable) accident set in place by Kyurem.
And Kyurem didn't even tell him, didn't even think to tell him, until when? When he tells it that he almost killed his twin again? When he's a mess of emotions? When he's already poured everything he has into their connection, worn his heart on his sleeve and confessed every bit of self-blame he's ever felt to it?
It tells him that it was all unnecessary?
It couldn't have said as such earlier, so that he'd have had even a tiny, modicum of a chance at making things right?
No amount of regret can fix this.

if dragon legendaries!submas are effected by their cold bloodedness…would they hibernate? does s/o have to deal with her husbands comatose for a few weeks? and since emin is an ice type, how would he be effected?
cw: dragon au
▲Zekrom Ingo▼
● He hates how he passes out when the weather turns chilly. The dragon hybrid goes to lay down for a short nap and is out for three days. Thankfully, it isn't as bad as it was before the modern invention of central heating. Still, he often falls asleep due to his body clock knowing the time of year it was. Frustration was normal with how behind he got on his duties as both a dragon god and Subway Boss.
● For you, however, it is quite a bit lonely. Your mate is asleep for so long and only waking up for brief respites. He can't help it, you know, but that doesn't make it any less lonely to come home to your sweet dragon husband out cold for the fourth day in a row. He apologises endlessly for this, but it doesn't make it go away.
● You lay beside him for a moment, and he temporarily awakens from the introduction of your warmth. Ingo presses a soft kiss to your temple and murmurs out affectionate words. Soon, you're both asleep, and he doesn't stir awake again until after you disappear the next morning, desperately grasping the empty space at his side.
● He's also a blanket hog despite it not really doing anything for since he does not produce his own heat. You'll whine, and he gives over a few. His hoarding instincts really kick in over blankets, it seems. Ingo does apologise again when he fully comes to consciousness again.
● Overall, for you, it's a lonely few months with small and brief time spent with an awake and alert Ingo. He's endlessly sorrowful over it, but his biology simply won't allow for him to ignore it. Waking up to flashes of you brought him extreme comfort, however, and he's just grateful to have you back.
▽Reshiram Emmet△
○ He follows a few steps as his hibernation approaches. First, he takes all the blankets in the house to make a nest in your bedroom. Then, he passes out. It does annoy him a little, but he can't handle the cold well. Something instinctual to do with his flames, he's certain. He's less concerned about his duties than his brother, but it's still there.
○ Loneliness is still heavy with him, as he seemingly sleeps longer. It's quiet without his hugs, whining and cooing. His warm affection is gone for days on end. When he does stir awake, he isn't one for talking. His eyes are distant, but he nods along with whatever you say. Emmet does give a sleepy cuddle with his wings wrapping around you sweetly.
○ Laying beside him leads to long cuddling before drafting away. He lets out a whiny, yet sweet sound as he buries his face into the nape of your neck. The chilly nights in Unova are fought off with the warmth of your nest and Emmet's residual heat from his flames. When you depart from his side in the morning, he stirs awake and tries to hug the space next to him sadly.
○ If his nest gets messed up by him moving in his sleep or if you steal a blanket away, he tries to fix it during his few moments of consciousness. You may even see him creep out in a half awake state to add more blankets to the nest. He sometimes even retrieves you to cuddle with him.
○ In the end, Emmet doesn't mind his hibernation, but he does seem dead set on keeping you in his nest. It is quite lonely, but he tries to amend it in his own sleepy way. When it's over, he wakes up to cuddle you sweetly and tell you how much he missed you. You are then smothered in affection.
▲Kyurem Emin▽
● Ice man is not immune to being sleepy in winter. He needs to be more careful about heat, but he also curls up in his private bed quarters. The king hates his hibernation, but it must happen. Blankets are moved around, with everyone knowing it was him. Before, these long winter months would be of isolation and momentary long days of work. Then, after you came along, there was more warmth and balance within his duties.
○ It's quite lonely without him, as servants and nobles aren't keen on holding true conversations with the mate of their Dragon God King. You stay at hid bedside and have one-sided conversations with him. An occasional response, whether accidental or purposeful, comes from him. He stirs awake to give distant responses or attempts to pull you into his bed, his chill trying to be offset by your warmth.
● Sleeping with him always a troubling experience as his natural coolness never truly leaves. It's a wonder he tires out so much in the winter, but his weakness is obvious. He cuddles with you sweetly, clearly happy by your heat and presence, but he awakes sadly when you leave him. For a few fleeting moments of awareness, he watches you go from him sadly.
○ He has taken all the blankets in the palace to make a lovely nest and proceeds to hog them through the winter. Emin whines when even you, his beloved mate, tries to sneak one away from him, despite them having no known use for him as his body literally does no produce natural heat. You are also often trapped in his embrace, to which he whines if you try to leave. The poor dragon god is a mess.
● Emin doesn't necessarily enjoy his hibernation and wakes up more tired than when he went to sleep. He immediately sets to catch up on his duties as king, which sees him quite busy. Emin also spends his time finally awake at your side, speaking about everything he missed while asleep, softly cuddling you and burying his face in your neck.

I was chatting with @penquinlori and just hear me out... SubMas Kingdom Hearts AU!
They brought up a good point! Emmet and Ingo certainly have the stupid shoes to be in Kingdom Hearts! You just have to put too many zippers and other detailing onto their outfits and they'd fit right in!
And of course once this was put into my brain... I couldn't help but to run with it. And I'm really quite enamored by what we've come up with!
The obvious route for doing Kingdom Hearts but with the Subway Bosses is to make them Keyblade users and give them Oathkeeper and Oblivion, right? I don't know if there are any other keyblades out there that are supposed to be a matching pair, but Oathkeeper and Oblivion are certainly great matches for the two of them. But then again... Ingo and Emmet have this big ol' Black and White motif going on with them... And do you know what also have big Black and White motifs within the Kingdom Hearts franchise...? Heartless and Nobodies...
So there's an idea! Heartless!Ingo and Nobody!Emmet! At first there was some temptation to imagine that they were just a Heartless and Nobody that happened to meet and decided to look like one another... But... What if they were the Heartless and Nobody of the same person...? THINK OF THE ANGST POTENTIAL! :D
I'm just thinking... At first it was just Ingo. Something absolutely terrible happened and Ingo's heart fell to darkness. Ingo became a Heartless and from his body Emmet was created. (Emmet came up with his name all by himself. Ingo's name means 'in.' Since you know... In go. And so the Nobody created from Ingo, the opposite of what Ingo is now that he's a Heartless... His name should mean 'out!' Therefore 'Emmet' from 'emit!') In that way, they're still twins in a sense, with Ingo being the older one! Somehow, some time later, the two find one another, and after reuniting, decide to stay together as they are. They form a close bond and in a very real sense become brothers. They take care of one another and protect each other. Emmet sees Ingo as more than just a mindless beast, only acting on instinct. And Ingo sees Emmet as more than an emotionless empty vessel. At some point, some Keyblade wielder finds the two of them and slays Ingo. After that, Emmet doesn't put up a fight and asks the Keyblade user to destroy him too. Now that Ingo's heart has been released, the two can't exist at the same time anymore. And if that's the case, Emmet is alright with not existing anymore. Because at the very least, if he stops existing, then he and Ingo will be together again. Ingo wakes up and realizes that he's no longer a Heartless. It takes Ingo a little bit longer to realize that Emmet had given up his existence to so that Ingo could live again. And when he realizes that, Ingo is absolutely devastated. The person Ingo cared about the most and the only person who would take care of him when no one else would is gone now. Ceased to exist so that he could live again.
But hey! Happy ending! Some time later, Ingo learns that he has two hearts inside of him! As it turns out, Emmet in the end did have a heart of his own. His emotions were real. And now he just needs to find a way to get Emmet's heart out of him and give him his own body!
Funny enough, this whole idea actually meshes pretty well with the lore in Black and White. Black representing Ideals with Ingo being the Heartless, the disembodied emotions and sense of self while White represents Truth with Emmet being the more emotionally detached Nobody and physical presence between the two. Ingo being the removed essence, much like Zekrom and Reshiram while Emmet is the empty vessel left behind and given life, much like Kyurem. Like... This idea works a LOT better than I actually thought that it would! And I'm really quite enamored with this whole thing now.
