Today was our official orientation and welcome to Mexico City, by our Study Abroad Partners AEA. As soon as we reached for the meeting, I was taken aback by the small artefacts at the entrance of the building. Capturing just a part of it, I tried to hold on to the range of colours, finesse, and craftsmanship with its rugged and intricate details.

One of our assignments on the first day was to roam around and discover the neighbourhood we were living in. And well, why won’t anyone do that. But today’s walk, for me, was mostly focused on getting my dose of caffeine to kill my slumberland withdrawals. Also when you are getting an Americano, and you see the most apt representation of your feeling on the wall you capture the colours to document them. And throw it out in cyberspace.

This greenery is a metaphor for Laboratorio para la Ciudad, who are working on amazing projects and defining the governments approach and policy suggestions. The gray, is unquestionably the government.

Did you know, that Mexico has a history of using murals as political statements?

While walking through the streets in a small town, in Tlaxcala, I felt like I was walking in Gujarat with its toran and paved roads. And also, the strangers smiling at you as you walk by. So much for missing home from the field study in 2009, and finding it again in another part of the world in 2018.

So far, Mexico is literally been this colour palette. With the right amount of coolth and warmth. Firstly, where ever you walk around you’ll see plants and trees creating a canopy over roads and pathways and we’ve witnessed the lush foliage in the past few days in Condesa. Presenting exhibit A, for proof and colour. I think this is one of the reasons one would want to notice and indulge it her environment, because care and attention to detail are two delighters of this city which draws attention towards themselves with every step.

And this marks the beginning of another term. Just a frozen moment in time, before the storm.
This palette is an ode to the fall term and last year, where I travelled and lived in ten odd places in 2017 alone. And with this week we start a beautiful term where we’ll be travelling, meeting new people, and working like crazy.
Be good, 2018.

Oh dayum. The beauty of hand painted type in Mexico just keeps getting better and better. Which other place would so much effort in painting a sign for a medical store, but the bigger question is why won’t they put in the effort. The use of colours and depth in these signs across CDMX is wonderful, and needs its own documentation. Seriously.
