After Death there was Lambsbread.

what happens after death?

Okay I was gonna make a joke about not being able to match Harley Poe and the Hearse Song but in looking up the lyrics I learned that some of it originated with Matthew Lewis, author of The Monk, one of the weirdest old gothic fiction novels. Sorry for the reality that just struck me as a cool connection in time.

This band is incredibly interesting and I recommend everyone give this band a listen.

Founded in 1971 by three brothers, Bobby, David, and Dannis Hackney, Death originally had a funk sound, but inspired by the likes of Alice Cooper and The Who, switched to a heavier punk style, making them arguably the first all-black punk band in history, they recorded several songs but never put out a proper album before the brothers redirected their energy to other projects like a gospel rock group called The 4th Movement. David died in 2000, and Bobby and Dannis are still active in groups like Lambsbread and The Aerolites.

The band's few printed singles were in circulation and one of them was discovered by Bobby's son Julian, who recognized his father's voice, and news quickly spread and a label offered to take th old recordings and finally release a proper album. Continuing this, Bobby's three sons formed a band called Rough Francis exclusively to cover their father and uncles' songs. This led to Death reforming with another guitarist replacing the deceased David. This has led to them remastering their old recordings into the albums "Spiritual, Mental, Physical", "III", and an album of all new material titled "N.E.W."

Just a really cool band overall.
