An arrest warrant has been issued for Roy McGrath, who served as Chief of Staff to former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R), after he was a no-show for the start of his criminal trial in federal court on Monday, according to multiple reports.

The Washington Post reported that law enforcement have searched McGrath’s Florida home to no avail.

McGrath was set to fly in from Florida and meet his lawyer in Baltimore early in the morning on Monday, according to the Baltimore Banner, before the hearing was scheduled to start at 9 a.m. at the U.S. District Court.

McGrath has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges of wire fraud, embezzlement and document falsification related to allegedly fraudulently obtaining a massive $233,000 severance payment when he left the Maryland Environmental Service.

McGrath had resigned as Hogan’s Chief of Staff after just months in the position amid reports of his payment from the state agency.

The mysterious book purporting to tell the true story about fugitive former government official Roy McGrath was published on Wednesday morning.

Political insiders and others fascinated with McGrath’s case quickly started reading the 52-page book, which author Ryan Cooper claims was written with cooperation from McGrath. Law enforcement is reading as well, and legal experts expect the book will affect McGrath’s federal case on charges of wire fraud, theft and falsifying a document — if he is ever tried.

McGrath was the chief of staff to then-Gov. Larry Hogan in the summer of 2020. His career quickly unraveled after it was reported that he’d negotiated a generous severance payout from the state agency where he previously worked when he left to join the governor’s team.

Investigations by journalists, state lawmakers and criminal investigators followed, culminating in state and federal criminal charges in the fall of 2021. McGrath was set to go on trial last week, but he never showed up.

A federal manhunt is underway for Roy McGrath, once the chief of staff to ex-Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, after he failed to appear in court Monday for the first day of his trial on wire fraud and embezzlement charges. FBI and U.S. Marshals are both working on the search, according to a law enforcement official.

The U.S. Marshals Service launched an interstate fugitive search after a federal judge issued a warrant for McGrath's arrest. McGrath's face is plastered on a U.S. Marshals poster, which highlights charges against him for wire fraud, theft in programs receiving federal funds and falsification of records in federal investigations.

McGrath had surrendered his passport after his arrest, according to the Marshals, making it more difficult for him to try to leave the country. The Marshals say that they have no indications at this point that McGrath has tried to harm himself, and they are operating under the assumption he remains at large.
