Jenna Coleman is navigating new waters as Johanna Constantine in the Netflix adaptation of The Sandman. Here the Victoria actor talks comic books, exorcisms and how Doctor Who prepared her for the DC Comics fandom.

“In terms of a female comic book character, I love the fact that she’s rough around the edges,” says Jenna Coleman, talking about her role as Johanna Constantine in the highly anticipated Netflix series The Sandman. “From Allan’s scripts she just leapt off the page and felt so textured, and layered; the cynicism, the wit, being such a lone wolf warrior, having this empathy and big heart, but having to not let anybody in. It really lent itself as a female role and I feel like, in the comic book world, there aren’t many female roles like that either.” The Allan in question is showrunner Mr Heinberg; he developed the show alongside Neil Gaiman and David S. Goyer, adapting it from Gaiman’s comic book of the same name. Published by DC Comics, the original series ran from 1989 to 1996 and followed the often-dramatic adventures of Morpheus (aka Dream), the king of dreams. Coleman’s character was the male John Constantine, who first appears to help Morpheus locate his stolen pouch of magical dream sand and in exchange is cured of his frequent nightmares. Johanna was actually another character – one of John’s ancestors from the 18th century – but Coleman’s Johanna is confirmed to be a direct replacement for John. “We played a lot with costume,” says Coleman, who previously transformed into Queen Victoria for the ITV historical drama Victoria, and time travelled back to the 1970s in Netflix’s The Serpent. “The visuals were really interesting, because the original comic book character is a chain-smoking Liverpudlian, so we went down that path with a version of that and the iconic Mackintosh coat on. It made me look more masculine, I guess, and myself and Allan wanted to take those roots and make Johanna a more upgraded version. We kept her quite sharp and sleek.” Johanna did maintain some of John’s rough and tumble, though; she swears like a sailor, with some choice quotes including, “Jesus f**k”, “run along and f**k off back to hell,” and the cleaner – but no less comically delivered – “Get in line, bruv, can’t keep God waiting.” The character is a detective with the powers of a sorcerer and is perhaps most notably skilled in performing exorcisms. Reimagined for the screen several times, he was played by Keanu Reeves in the 2005 film Constantine and portrayed by Matt Ryan in NBC’s live action Constantine TV series, and in various animated Justice League properties. A new HBO series revolving around the character is currently in development, though casting has not yet been announced. EX 👏 ACT 👏 LY you understand. i saw this post one time and simply never looked back so without further ado here are the top ten nail polishes, in no particular order, that i think thomas bordeleau should try:

1. sally hanson xtreme wear in 140 rockstar pink

we’re starting with this one because i previously mentioned it in another post, and, while i think thom gives the vibes of a single color natural nail mani, i like this one because it’s one polish that’s multicolor—dark pink glitter with a little bit of blue to call in the sjs and the baby blue suit he was wearing. also, glitter nail polishes will last you FOREVER

2. chanel le vernis in 339 cassis

also have to start out by including my closest approximation to the nail polish in the photo that started this all. i love the sheerness of this polish, which means it can be more unobtrusive and a little blink-and-you’ll-miss-it barely-there detail or more prominent with more layers

3. gucci glossy in 715 winterset snow

personally i don’t often go for a white nail but i think borde would like something very crisp and clean (white does look nice on him). however, i think his white and/or cream needs to be a little cooler and not as much on the yellow side, which made finding this polish difficult but like. what else was i doing today (so many things)

4. les mains hermès in 85 rouge h

we have solid evidence that borde loooves a good maroon moment and i did specifically pick hermès (no idea why. fancy? would appeal to him?). love the cooler tones in this red for him and i heavily debated giving him this really deep rich purple (violet byzantin) of the same style of polish but we can work up to wearing that one

5. cirque colors x live. love. polish in puttin’ on the ritz

while i know the first color on here is literally a fine glitter, To Me thomas bordeleau is a chunky glitter gorl. it’s got artsy details, a bunch of different types of glitter, it’s iridescent, it can be layered, i’m in love with it. it will match any outfit thom i promise

6. maniology in b333 gold rush

imho i would wear more silver jewelry to compliment the cool tones he likes to wear BUT. borde almost always sports gold (honestly not bad wrt bringing out the california tan, it doesn’t wash him out) so i am giving him a boring, but very specific metallic not-too-yellow-or-light-or sparkly gold nail color. sorry. just paint one nail and use it like an accent or for french tips for spice, idk bud you’re the hand model here and i am simply an incredibly picky art director

7. àuda.b in my cactus

i love how vibrant this green is, i love the finish on it, i think we could convince thom to branch out into more jewel tones and pastels. also yes i picked this to match his houseplants

8. nails.inc caught in the nude in hawaii beach & boy de chanel in 404 black

i have a lot of shiny and glittery finishes on this list and i reeeeally wanted to throw in a matte finish so. this is a two for one because i couldn’t find a matte version of this chocolate brown that i really liked for him but also i’m giving him a special matte black polish because to me these are both neutrals

9. mooncat in millennia

this one just looks dope. i feel like he would like the chrome effect to it? it is more high effort because it’s a magnetic polish, but also given that he loves juicewrld now i think i could swing this one on that basis alone (it’s the same colors as legends never die).

10. zoya in zp797 cecilia

how could i make this list and not include a pacific teal nail polish for the san jose sharks 🦈 this also would be stunning as a pop of color to accent his grey game day suits just saying

Marina graced the April 2019 cover of PAPER Magazine. The superstar looked gracious modeling the most colorful Spring/Summer 2019 fashion while talking about her then-newest album “Love + Fear”.

We’re starting off strong with a total look from the Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2019 collections (one of my faaaaves!). This ensemble included an orange & pink ostrich feather-embroidered cropped top with the matching voluminious feather print silk trousers.

Our girl crowned the first look with these gold & silver-tone linked chain earrings from French jeweler Annelise Michelson.

Next, an all-red ensemble is presented to us which hails from none other than the maison of Valentino. This Pre-Fall 2019 romantic number is a pleated pussy-bow cape-effect red silk-georgette mini dress with concealed mother-of-pearl buttons.

Marina's jewelry included the Jil silver loop earrings by Luz Ortiz, a ring by Annika Inez and a pinky ring by Jennifer Fisher!

The insane heels are courtesy of young emerging designer Ganor Dominic. These are the Apollo red mirror pumps.

Crafted by artisans in Italy within a factory owned by a family who have been creating shoes for two generations since 1968 – Ganor Dominic bespoke designs are all handmade with locally sourced materials and components.

One of the most interesting looks have to be this white circle-shaped wrap front jacket and suede leather pants which were seen on Balmain's Egyptian-themed Spring/Summer 2019 presentation!

She completed the look with this Lady Grey Jewelry warped silver metal earring...

...and this silver metal corset belt from the aforementioned Balmain collection.

Iconic Italian label Versace set a colorful statement with their Spring/Summer 2019 collection which set free this gooorgeous neon-green jersey midi dress featuring a feminine draped neckline, long sleeves and a risqué slit!

M rocks two different sets of earrings for this look. The first ones are the Hannah Jewett Plus One earrings featuring totemic figurations suspended on gold hoops with little lucite discs.

Her other ones are Givenchy Pre-Fall 2019 mismatched mixed media earrings featuring pearls, chains, rhinestones and coins!

Her neon-green patent leather block heel sandals with crystal-embellished buckle are from the same Versace collection as above.

Our final look comes from Louis Vuitton's Spring/Summer 2019 runway and is this fantasic silver sequined laser-cut structured mini dress with strong shoulders and mock neck!

Lastly, she rocked a pair of Déchainée Mono broken silver chain link earrings by Annelise Michelson.
