So, we all agree Round 7 has the potential to be the part where Till comes to terms with what happened to him and decides to fight for himself (for freedom, for humanity), right?

Well, I suggest this:

Mizi, an embodiment of childlike purity, tainted by grief and rage — represents loss of something he could never get back. Her child self is dead and gone, and in its place is a fire that fuels Till’s voice. Till screams at the audience and Mizi screams with him. They are angry, and they crave retribution.

Ivan is the cold, cruel reality that tells of manipulation, of violence and selfish intentions. He is the world that sculpted Till into what he is. It is painful, but it is real and it’s not just about the hurt it inflicts on Till, it is about sacrifice, the small moments of tenderness and the pure, unadulterated desire to find belonging. To be loved. It is not the perfect goodness Till strived for, but it is beautiful, it exists, and it is something that can be fought for.

When Till croons into the microphone like Ivan did, he is looking Ivan in the eyes. And it is not just Ivan or the world looking back— it is Till himself.

Remi and Swimming

Why can’t Remi swim?

That’s a genuine question. Why does Remi, at seventeen years old, not know how to swim?

After some quick research, I found that being unable to swim is actually way more common than I thought. Still, I want to speculate on Remi’s reason.

The Red Cross lists fear as the top reason people cited for not learning to swim. Other reasons I can think of for not learning to swim are: couldn’t afford lessons, didn’t live near a pool or body of water, disability, or simply never made time to learn.

However, in Remi’s case, I think it’s much more likely because of her ability than anything else.

It could be because her parents wanted to wait until she had better control of her ability before putting her in water with other kids. This of course, raises the question of why she didn’t learn before her ability developed. It could also be that someone in her family had an incident in the water, and the family was very cautious after that.

I personally like to believe that Rei had an ability-related incident when Remi was quite young, and her parents wanted to keep Rei out of the water until he could control his ability better. Because it would be mean to take Remi swimming and make Rei stay behind or on land, Remi’s lessons got put off indefinitely until they were forgotten about.

Of course, this scenario also means that Rei never finished learning to swim either.

I also like the idea that their mom was the one who had a swimming accident, and was somewhat traumatized by it and therefore extremely paranoid about putting her kids in the water. This explanation would also mean that Rei probably couldn’t swim.

I will now kindly place here for my own enjoyment, a reminder that Blyke was the one who taught Remi to swim and it was cute as fuck:

He slowly trailed after her, glancing up at the sky as the sun was leaving and the Northern Lights were starting to be visible again. One of his favorite things about the Yukon (besides the gold, of course) was the Lights. They were beautiful and breath-taking and awe-inspiring… ...and as he looked up at Goldie, who’d finally reached the top of the hill, Scrooge saw how the Borealis shone around her head and made her look like she was glowing. He blushed and looked away just as Goldie turned around to look back at him.

Third Klondike drawing for @lettheladylead's running in circles, this one from chapter 5 and from Scrooge's POV this time, and my favorite of the bunch. The opportunity to draw the aurora and this setting (and Goldie of course) made this an instant must-draw.

I cannot express how much I want Amalia day to just be a little girl. Like yes she’s going to be that annoying overly-competitive kid who throws fits if she thinks a rule is unfair and judges kids who don’t play sports but also let her chew on her hair elastics!! Let her make friendship bracelets and steal her mom’s makeup and beg her parents for sleepovers!! Let Amalia Day get weird and loud when she’s with her close friends and let her sob for hours when they fight over the most trivial things! She quotes memes and begs for more YouTube time and drags her parents to the new despicable me movie. She uses her father like a jungle gym and climbs in her mom’s lap when she’s tired!! When Wymack picks her up from summer camp she runs towards him in excitement and jumps in his arms!! She blabbers nonstop about every single exy practice to her parents as soon as she gets in the car and gets more excited as she keeps taking!! She’s a baby!!!
