I really love writing their more domestic moments. Their love isn’t super fantastical or (hopefully) far-fetched. The bicker, they laugh, they challenge each other, and they spend their quiet, private moments trying to balance the world together. Whether it’s navigating new parenthood or intimacy, I like writing them be tender toward each other because we don’t always see a ton of that in mainstream media.

Asia x Kelvin

I enjoy writing their spontaneity and their sort of giddy energy. It’s fun to write them exploring the world and each other. I feel like Insecure was like one of the only recent shows depicting Black 30 somethings having genuine fun. So I wanted to capture some of that. It’s also be INCREDIBLY rewarding having so many of y’all be able to see yourself and experiences in Asia. That was my goal from the jump.

What are the couples favorite types of sex?

Terry LOVES morning sex. Particularly the morning after some other sex. Very specifically on a Saturday morning. If he can kiss her awake by the shoulder and make sure she’s down for what he has planned, he’ll be there all morning just lazily picking new body part to admire.

On Kelvin, that’s his sacred nickname. That’s the one that could instantly tip Asia off to something serious and sentimental coming if you’re picking up what I’m putting down. It’s not the one he uses super often, but it packs a tremendous amount of love each time he uses it. Her mom uses it too, so he doesn’t want to take too much from that deeply personal connection.

So we know my sis can’t cook but is she interested in learning or is she more of a prep and handle the clean up kinda girl?

Also not a question but I love the fact that she can’t cook worth a damn and Kel does not give a fuck about none of that. Good morning! Chile! Starting the day on some foolishness is insane lmao. It’s like a day before the weekend. Thursday is supposed to be chill lmao.

Asia is 50/50 on learning. She wants to know the basics like how to make a good pancake, but she doesn’t care to be measuring and following long recipes. Just put the food on the plate lol. She wants to know enough to stay alive in a pinch, not how to beat Bobby Flay.

Unfortunately, yeah, she did. That came up for his mom early on, especially when Asia wasn’t showing any interest in learning. What she imagined for her son was more of a traditional housewife and Asia is anything but that. She’s so different than the women their family has raised and grown around. But, that slowly waned once she got the full scope of how much Kelvin loved her and how much he did not care about that one thing.

Kelvin was vocal very early on about that not being important to him. It was a great opportunity for his parents to see him as a man and not the kid they projected a bunch of expectations onto. She could not know how to fill an ice tray and he wouldn’t give a damn. To him, Asia brings so much more to the table. His parents didn’t get it at first, but he quickly (and firmly) got them up to speed.
