Serenity (Iwaizumi x Reader)

pairing: Iwaizumi Hajime x Reader - fandom: Haikyu!!

You hadn’t felt so right in a party since university.

Now, working as CEO of a rising brand in Japan, you barely had time to go out with your friends, visit your parents or just stay put in a corner of your apartment, calmly sipping your favorite tea and reading a book. Your boyfriend, Iwaizumi Hajime, had no complains about your current situation: he himself was busy all the time with volleyball practice.

“(Name)-chan! I don’t even know how you guys are still together”, would say your nosiest friend, to which you could only laugh.

But you couldn’t lie: you had thought about that, too. Cheesy as it is, the only answer you had was that you two loved each other too much. One unusual night of peace and a bottle of wine, you both confessed things you’d miss most, if you were ever to part ways: while you couldn’t imagine not hearing the excitement in his voice whenever he spoke about volleyball, he couldn’t bear the thought of not hearing you explain your latest project, or complain about lazy coworkers. You both came to the realization that, even though they may be different, the thing bounding you two together was your strongest similarity: being passionate about what you’re doing, and working hard to achieve your ambitions.

“You’re overthinking again.” you were snapped out of your reverie by a hand waving in front of your face, and directed your gaze to the handsome face of your favorite ace. With a smile, you accepted the beer can he was offering you, and patted the spot beside you on the couch. Hajime sat, and put his arm around your shoulders, turning to watch the party from where you two were.

“I wasn’t, actually.” you took a sip from the beer, welcoming the familiar taste. “Just… reminiscing about us. About that dinner, last monday.” he glanced at you, contemplating something, before giving in and kissing your lips. After a brief moment, turning to face forward again, as if nothing ever happened.

Years of dating, and you still hadn’t gotten used to the rare moments that Hajime decided to throw away his dislike of PDA. That single action had your face turning red, and a soft smile bloomed upon your lips. You tucked your face between his neck and shoulder, relishing in the feeling of his body stiffening, followed by relaxation. He even rested his head on you, hand grasping yours.

“Iwa-kun, (Name)-chan! You both look so cozed up~ Is Iwa-kun going soft?” and trust Oikawa Tooru to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere.

Instead of doing the usual and following your indignant boyfriend’s claims with harsh comments of your own, you tuned them out and observed the party.

Nishinoya and Tanaka bothering girls, Hinata watching Kenma play, Yamaguchi following Tsukishima, Ushijima calmly conversing with Kiyoko, Kuroo and Bokuto spiking random drinks in the party and laughing after people drank and immediately spat it out, Sugawara and Daichi making out in a corner, being discovered by Kageyama, that turned into a sputtering mess and ran away from the scene…

Yes, you were without time to do anything else but work. Yet, looking at all of your high school friends and acquaintances, sensing that everything was how it was supposed to be…

You couldn’t help but think that you hadn’t felt so right anywhere since university.
