Page 12. ---- Henry Walter Reid, Peterboro, Was Convicted of Murder ---- Henry Walter Reid, sentenced at Peterboro to a life term for the murder of Harry Thomas, unemployed war veteran of Belleville in September last, was brought to the Kingston Penitentiary on Monday afternoon. 

Reid twice stood in the very shadow of the gallows. Convicted at the fall assises on the capital charge, he was sentenced by Mr. Justice Wright to be hanged on Jan. 8. As a result of a petition to the Governor-General-in-Council urging executive clemency. Reid’s case was referred by the Federal Government to the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Court ordered that the condemned man be reprieved until Feb. 10. The five appeal court Judges did not arrive at a unanimous decision and the case was In turn referred back to the Hon. Hugh Guthrie, Minister of Justice. The Governor-in-Council commuted the sentence to one of life Imprisonment at Kingston Penitentiary.
