What did you think of Spock/Chapel chemistry season 2? are people just hating or did they lack it post episode 5 Charades.
I am not a fan of this ship, objectively, so I will like a more objective response and you seem to be fair to all trek ship. this is why I like to ask you questions.
Is it just hate when you see people say spock/chapel had no chemistry in season 2?
A lot of people and even critics said they had chemistry in season 1. do you think it is because they teased a will they or wont they hook up and people love a build up more than the actual relationsip?
It is as if the chemistry was gone once they got together after Charades? I don't know if that is fair or if it is because they have so many haters. However I do know a lot of critics, did not talk much about their chemistry in season 2 either.
Its interesting SNW did a big buffy homarge with the musical but the way they wrote the spock/chapel stuff did mirror some buffy couples. for instance Xander leaving Anya at the alter when he gets a message from the future that their marriage fails is similar to Chapel dumping Spock because Boimler tells her, she is not in his future. Cordy/Wesley were built to be a couple and had the chemistry for that but once they tried, the romance failed and there was no chemistry.
As I said, I don't like this ship, it just has too much baggage that was more negative than positive, but I do still like objective un bias opinions and you seem to be one of the neutral trek fans, who can be fair, so what are your takes on the chemistry of spock/chapel before and after they hooked up.
Thanks for the ask :)
I do think there was a tonal shift to Spapel once the relationship formed, but i also think the writers did that on purpose. I think this relationship is supposed to serve both Spock’s and Chapels overall separate arcs.
What I’ve gotten from it is that Spock’s experimenting with his more human emotions and letting himself feel more openly. So pre-relationship its just fun, intense, wanting. I honestly don’t think he was thinking beyond i want to be with her. So when they did get together, and he showed Chapel this sacred piece of his soul, it was terrifying. Because what if she left after he exposed this fresh and raw part of himself? That fear maybe led him to be too emotionally codependent.
As for Chapel, she has some unclear romantic baggage we haven’t seen yet, though, she’s said she doesn’t let people get close anymore. But then Spock came along, and he was kind and protective. He also listened to her and valued her. Whether she liked it or not, she fell for him pretty quickly. I mean, sometimes you just can’t help when the right person comes along. But then the relationship formed. Chapel, having apparently been stung before, wanted it to go slow because she too was afraid it would end, and she’d get her heart broken. Then Boimler all but said as much was going to happen and that was that. It was a like a self-fulfilling prophecy. Why become more attached to something doomed to fail?
So yeah, pre-relationship both are so caught up in their intense crushes, and then in the relationship they both need vastly different things (spock- a five year plan, chapel- space to figure it out).
It’s like they took the line “having is not so pleasing as wanting” and ran with it haha
Idk about the chemistry to be honest. I never really felt anything between them but i also never shipped them. It was too rushed, he was engaged for most of it, and they even had less screen time than la’an and kirk. I think if we got a scene of them just hanging out, maybe learning some more about Chapel, i think i might be more invested? Idk. Could also be because Chapel feels sidelined to Spock story-wise (which Ive gone more in depth in another post).
I uh, don’t know if this answers your question or if i just vomited up some nonsense haha

“Finish my fic so I know how it ends? :D Nah, really anything Spirk, favorably TOS, is great. (But if you want ideas, I can make a list of what I like: Mpreg. Spock having to care for an de-aged Jim. Jealousy because Jim got a girl in his pants and Spock hates it that his Captain always messes around with others but not with him. Strange alien influences (only saying the truth, ... actually aliens can do anything to them, no limits to imagination). ....”
-@zwiebelbaguette
What a multitude of ideas! I’m gonna go with de-aged, enjoy! (haha this didn’t turn out as good as I wanted but it was getting long so I kinda rushed the ending “^ ^)
When the dust settled, Spock found much to his dismay that the captain was gone.
Upon a second glance he corrected his previous assumption. The captain was not gone, but rather, reduced.
Where the adult Captain James T. Kirk had been standing, facing down an unknown alien entity that had been hunting the away team, there was now a boy no older than thirteen by Spock’s estimation. His uniform hung about him in loose swaths, and the boy looked as if he had no idea where he was or what was going on.
Spock made a quick decision, and grabbed Kirk before rolling out of the alien’s path. The creature seemed to be a cloud of angry buzzing, and when it saw its prey escaping it emitted a low roar.
“Spock to Enterprise, two to beam up!” Spock ordered. The light from the teleporter clouded Spock’s view of the creature and in an instant he was once again looking at the interior of the Enterprise.
“Dammit Jim, I told you going down there was a stupid idea, and would it kill ya to send an actual away team instead of taking the two highest people in command down to the possibly dangerous planet?” McCoy was mid-rant before he even noticed the trembling teen still grasped in Spock’s arms.
“What the hell did you do?” the doctor asked in a voice that was equal parts exasperated and terrified.
“I am still uncertain as to what affect the lifeform had on the captain.” Spock placed Kirk down onto the teleporter pad and stepped aside as Bones rushed in with a medical tricorder and began scanning.
“Captain? Do you mean my dad?” Kirk asked, recoiling from the tricorder.
“Whaddya mean Jim?” Bones asked, worry lines creasing his forehead.
“How do you know my name?” Kirk asked, his eyes growing wide with panic. “Where am I? W-was I rescued? Where’s Riley? And Tom?”
“What is he talking about?” Bones looked to Spock for guidance. Spock simply knelt down in front of the captain, and examined him thoughtfully.
“Jim, I would like to meld with you in order to assess your memories. Are you comfortable with this?”
“Meld? You mean that weird vulcan voodoo thing?” Kirk’s panic seemed to fade a little, replaced with excitement and curiosity. “Yeah, yeah okay that’s cool just…just don’t poke around too much okay?”
“I will try to respect your privacy,” Spock agreed, placing his hand on Jim’s face. For a moment the pair was silent, eyes closed as they communed telepathically. Then Spock opened his eyes, the slightest flicker of concern on his stoic features.
“Doctor, it seems the captain has no memory beyond his experiences in the Tarsus IV colony, during which time he was thirteen years of age as he is now.”
“Son of a bitch,” McCoy groaned. “What happened down there?”
“I have a hypothesis, but I am uncertain as to its validity,” Spock said. “It will require more research. I will need scans of the lifeform immediately.” Spock made to walk to the bridge, but found someone clutching at the back of his shirt anxiously. He turned and saw that Kirk was holding onto him, and when their eyes met he blushed and removed his hands, ashamed at being caught so afraid.
“Captain, are you well?” Spock asked.
It seemed to take Kirk awhile to realize that Spock was referring to him when he said ‘captain’, but when he did he replied softly. “No, yeah, sorry I’m fine.”
Bones and Spock exchanged a look, and the doctor sighed and shook his head.
“Cap-…Jim, it is alright to express discomfort. It is a perfectly normal human emotion,” Spock said.
“I’m just…” Kirk shrugged. “I don’t really know what I’m supposed to be doing. I don’t know where I am or what’s going on but…you saved me so I guess I was just gonna follow you. Sorry, it’s dumb.”
“…If you would feel more comfortable with me at your side, I can arrange for another member of the crew to attend to the research.” Spock said.
“Nah, really it’s okay!” Jim gave Spock a bright grin.
“I’ll take him for now,” Bones said.
“You’re not gonna stick me with some hypo are you?” Jim asked him suspiciously.
“Huh, well that memory is still intact.” Bones rolled his eyes.
After a few hours on the bridge and in the lab Spock determined that long range scanners would take some time to gather the data he needed, and it would take even longer to locate the lifeform. Since he had an excess of free time while the scans were being conducted he decided to check in on the captain.
“Doctor McCoy, what is the current location of the captain?” Spock asked, calling down to medical.
“He’s in his quarters, wanted to be alone. You know how teenagers are,” Bones growled in reply.
“I am afraid I do not, as vulcan teenagers are vastly different from human ones.”
There was some mumbling and southern profanities on the other end, but Spock did not linger to hear them. Instead he made for the captain’s quarters.
“Uh, come in?”
Spock was still unused to a voice that had not yet fully changed, and cracked as Jim spoke.
When Spock came into the room he noticed that Jim appeared to be hiding something under the bed. The teenager straightened, and gave Spock a beaming smile as if trying to hide whatever he was doing with the classic Kirk charm. Spock raised an eyebrow and approached the young captain.
“May I ask what you were doing before I entered the room?”
“Nothing, just getting used to the place. That doctor said this is my room?” Kirk whistled, putting his hands on his hips. “It’s nice.”
Spock knelt down and retrieved from under the bed a bag that had been packed with a week’s rations, water, and a phaser. Spock held the bag out in a universal non-verbal demand for an explanation. Clearly thirteen year old Jim did not have the experience of adult Jim when it came to vulcan facial expressions, as what would have made adult Jim laugh sheepishly made teenager Jim panic.
“It’s just in case,” he said.
“What is the case in which you would need this?” Spock asked.
“I-I don’t know, it’s not logical or anything it’s just…” Kirk sweat slightly, and looked at his feet. “I feel safer when I have some supplies…”
Spock arched an eyebrow and after removing the phaser from the bag, replaced it under the bed. “Jim, you need not fear the events of Tarsus IV while onboard this vessel. You will be well taken care of.”
“That’s what the Federation said too…and Kodos…” Jim’s hand curled into a tight fist. Spock almost frowned.
During their time together Jim had been reluctant to discuss his past, especially concerning the failed colony. Spock had gathered from their bond and from small actions Jim took here and there that the events still weighed on him, but they had never weight so heavily as they did now. The wound was fresher, and had this been his Jim…he would have comforted him with his fingers against his and sent his comfort along their bond. However, this was a child in front of him, and Spock was unfamiliar with how to comfort a teenaged Jim Kirk. Perhaps, rather than try to comfort him he should focus his attention solely on returning the captain to his proper age. That would be the logical thing to do.
“…What would help you to feel comfortable…besides securing rations?” Spock asked. Kirk looked surprised, as if he hadn’t expected the sympathy.
“…Can I shadow you today? You’re a tough guy…I feel like we could handle some trouble together,” Kirk said.
“Of course, Jim.” Spock nodded. Just then his communicator beeped. “Spock here.”
“Sir, we have the results from the scan, and it’s looking good!” an excited ensign informed him.
“I am on my way,” Spock replied.
The results were indeed pleasing. The science team had discovered that the lifeform had quite literally absorbed several years off Kirk’s life. Furthermore, there were existing records of such creatures in the Starfleet database that suggested the solution was as simple as waiting for the affects to wear off. Despite this scientific evidence, Spock found himself experiencing…anxiety. He even based his commands off this irrational fear that the affect would not wear off, and he ordered the Enterprise to stay in orbit around the planet just in case further action was needed.
However his fear was unfounded. As Kirk followed him throughout the day, observing his duties with a gaze that Bones had started to call “fanboy adoration”, Spock noticed the captain aging slowly but surely. By the end of the day it was his Jim Kirk that stood before him.
