Every time someone calls a character being normal protective "overprotective" i lose a brain cell. i need to you guys to learn what the "Over" means in "overprotective" because you think it's a cute little fun character quirk instead of a flaw that usually acts as hindrance to one characters freedom and privacy in favor of another characters control and fear.

#text #a character being protective? normal! people want to protect the people they care about!#overprotective? it means they are overbearing to the point of it hindering another person #they are overdoing it. it isn't healthy for someone to be over protective because it usually harms the party they are trying to protect #by taking away said parties freedom under the guise of 'keeping them safe' to an extreme degree #thats why ppl hate overprotective parents who often can end up becoming super controlling of their children #or they can make their kids dependent on them because they refuse to let a kid learn any life lessons for fear of them being hurt #it can turn into something toxic really quickly if not kept in check so it's not the cute quirky character trait y'all act like it is #tbh it's not that big of a deal but also it's just one of those overused words to the point the meaning has been lost on ppl #tbh overprotectiveness i think can be a super interesting character flaw #like look at finding nemo for instance thats the main film with an overprotective parent almost everyones seen #Marlin's whole flaw is that he's too over protective of nemo which causes nemo to act out in ways to try and prove himself #which marlin needs to learn to trust nemo more and allow the kid to live and thrive without marlin breathing down his neck #i have a lot of thoughts abt this sorry
