I did that one first#but it's alright for now#i need to explore my main art program's capacity for brushes and textures more#(it's paint tool sai 2)#it's all a bunch of settings instead of nice brushes you can just import#and is overall just... more limited imo#i wish it was like more like csp or photoshop in that respect#i have to port files over to those to do more heavy-duty backgrounds#or use filters more advanced than gaussian blur. -_-#oh yeah also. i was basing “cutscene” off of vanilla style#and since pebbles only has like one distant picture there#i reffed off moon more for him#i could nitpick at this for hours tbh#art#flickerdoodles

I guess I'm done with mermay for this year huh.
Anyway, I recently watched some playthroughs of Hades 2 (and 1) and I really loved the character illustrations they had, so I wanted to try and sort of take inspiration from the style, and see what I can learn from it.
I decided to draw Helias for this experiment, as he needed a design upgrade anyway. I have few other characters on the drawing list too that I'd like to utilize for this.
(I'm imagining Helias is speaking to the kids of my story's main fam, Hitomi and Ichirou, in that bottom fake screenshot. Shaell is their 'Deity/King' as their family are Soul Eaters, although only Helias refers to him by his first name, he's mainly known as Amaros)
I left the BG for the last one simple as I currently had no proper ideas for it.
(ALSO. I can't believe it took me almost 10 years to realize that Helias' name came from a greek myth. I LEGIT forgot about Helios being a thing, I did not give my boy a similar name on purpose I swear)

So I'm sure that we're all familiar with the "Born Sexy Yesterday" trope, yes? Where there's a woman who's alien, a robot, suffering from amnesia, etc etc and it basically renders her useless in terms of understanding herself or the world around her. And it's up to the protag, the one we're supposed to see ourselves in, to help her figure things out. Thing is though is that the protag is usually just some totally average guy, and would probably even be considered a loser by "average person" standards. But since he's the first person that the BSY girl meets he seems like the coolest, smartest, most amazing guy ever
...I just realized that in Disco Elysium, you are the Born Sexy Yesterday woman. And Kim is the average guy.

#this heat wave has been a blessing and curse#it hit 110 earlier#my neck of the woods is used to peaking at 105 and nothing higher than that#this shit is unheard of for several days straight#right now its 93 and this past week ive had no physical pain cause of fibromyalgia nor flare ups#i haven't felt this in a long long time#this feels like heaven i can fucking move and be active without feeling so limited or bed bound#but the heat and humidity have given me bad headaches and heat exhaustion is legit#I'm keeping hydrated staying shaded and not overdoing things physically#but fucking a it feels like a dragon is snoring right in front of my face#the power company killed the grids earlier cause of fire precaution it took like 4 hrs to get it back on#and I'm marinated in sweat rn#if the headaches could go away I'd be dandy af even though i feel gross#magenta#magenta is my vent word#not magenta but some other pink variant#trying to write but its too hot for brain#been reading and crocheting in the meantime while getting over headaches#i need to live somewhere where the winters arent horrible and the summers are hot but not excruciating#i need a personal terranium#thats what i need#hope everyone is doing good and staying safe if youre in a heat wave too

SURPRISE!!!! 💖#I wanted to save this post for this Thursday at the earliest seeing that I've been posting a lot about this koopa lately#But after some thought I decided to just post it today because I REALLY want my sister Stephanie to see this#I am so proud of this piece that I just couldn't WAIT to show it to everyone!!#I actually had a draft of this drawing going around the time I first showed my koopsona off here#But I ended up finishing it in almost one sitting and a half because... truth be told...#It is RIDICULOUSLY fun to draw in Paper Mario's artstyle and I've yet again mastered a style on my first attempt XD#I was so certain that the shading style of the Paper Mario series (And the Mario franchise in general) would be a nightmare#But after realizing the trick used to pull it off I was able to finish this quite quickly!#I also heavily referenced TTYD's Koopa Troopa sprite sheet over on Spriter's Resource to draw this#Seeing as that game's sprites are assembled from pieces so there were plenty of assets to go off of#I wanted this to initially look more like that game's key art without the white outline and paper texture...#... but honestly I think it looks a whole lot more perfect leaning in toward how modern Paper Mario's style looks!#You can consider this the definitive reference for my koopsona because I doubt I can top this#... well... that is until I inevitably draw her again#To think a few days ago I couldn't draw Koopas and now I've completely MASTERED it with this piece!!!
