And so the legend goes, she had been the most splendid bride the town had ever laid eyes upon, a seasons diamond if you will.. But her suitor, or so she thought, never arrived on the day they were to betrothed, his heart belonged to another, a lower class lady whom he ran away with. It's believed the abandoned bride still lurks the grounds where they were to be wed until this very day.. Hoping for his return.

Percip: This party is really swell, Lili.
Frotha rolled her eyes: Were you raised in a barn? Don't talk with your mouth full. Ugh.
I giggled: Thanks Percip. Mama knows how to throw a party, she's a bit showy with things like this.
Percip: Well, she can throw a party for me sometime.
Frotha huffed: Barbarian, that's what you are.
We all laughed together. Frotha has been my best friend since the beginning of time. Our daddies were best buds growing up as well. Percip moved to Sweet Creek in the third grade and like glue, just stuck to us.

Sometimes Fig watched Lili sleep in the early mornings.. They'd been trying for a baby for so long now with no success. Fig worked as a substitute teacher at the town's local junior high. Fig enrolled in the City's Governments newest test, a science baby. He was going to give Lili the dream she always dreamed.

Percip; Mister and Misses Sweetfoam, could Lili come to the county fair with Frotha and I this Saturday? I promise I'll keep a real close eye on her.
Egrat: Now son, you know how we feel about Lili going places without an adult around...
Marsha: Egrat, we've known Percip since he was a boy, his word has always been honorable.
Percip: I promise, sir.
Egrat: I want her home by 8PM, not a minute later.

Saturday, early afternoon;
Mama, like usual had out done herself. She transformed our yard into a sweet 16 banquet hall. Something from one of those fancy magazines you see down at the corner store.
Marsha: Lili Pearl! Put that pizza down, the guests will be arriving soon.
Lili: Gee whiz mama, it's my birthday.
Mama grabbed the plate from my hand gently: Oh little Dove, it's all about presentation, once they arrive, you can devour everything I made. Now go freshen up, hurry along.

She turned toward me while tying her apron around her tiny waist and let out a tiny gasp.
Marsha: Miss Lili, you go powder that nose this instant young lady. I have a ton of running around to do for this party and I need you to tag along with me.
I slumped my shoulders: Mama, if I put anymore powder on this nose I won't be able to breathe.
Marsha smirked: Go on young lady, this is your party not mine, the clock is ticking and we have much to do.
I did as I was told. Always.

It was the Summer of 1957 in Sweet Creek. My 16th birthday was this weekend and mama was already prepping all of the food. Of course it would be held in our yard with our closest friends and family, as we did every year for my birthday. Mama and Daddy didn't like me asking for a real party this year at Daddy's diner. They said a party in the yard would suffice. See my parents are kind of "Set in their ways". Mama came from money, she was always dressed to the nines, married daddy young and daddy, well, he was handed the diner from his daddy just like his granddaddy did before.

Now before her, I was the king of back seat bingo, a lil' Fig Newton lovin' left these broads with a hunger in their eyes, but she was different from the rest, and she had the classiest Chassy I ever saw...
She was different. Innocent, somethin' of a pure nature. Little darlin' was way outta my league, but she never made me feel that way. It was almost as if...
I'd loved her in another lifetime.
These GORGEOUS renders were done by the amazingly talented (and someone I'm blessed enough to call my beautiful friend) @mosneakers
