I'm running Blood and Dust, and wanted to try my hand at costuming Lekolé and Limyé for the play. (Yes, I did cast Veronike as Lekolé) Free to use as visual aids in your own games, so long as you link back to this post!

I wrote I Am a Phenomenal Black Boy in 2020, right at the beginning of the pandemic.
It was clear that the world was changing and unfortunately, many things have also remained the same. Protests were happening all around the world- People wanted real change! freedom versus captivity(physical, mental, spiritual). So many lives were lost and many of us were reminded to choose light. The pandemic showed workers of this world the importance of family- people were quitting their jobs, asking for more life balance. Lies were uncovered! A veil was lifted.
The world was telling black people that they didn’t matter. I wrote “the book” so my son could never enter into any contract with the world that doesn’t benefit him, that doesn’t see him, value him. The book is an agreement for my son to make with himself- the book is my gift to all black boys.
Dear black boys!
You are majestic!
Dear black boys, embrace your brilliance
Dear black boys, you are kind
Dear black boys, joy is your birthright
Dear black boys, you are Limye!
Dear Limye, you are phenomenal!
You can get the book here ! Thanks in advance for your support ❤️

Claire of the Sea Light
By Edwidge Danticat
Pages Read: 1-60
Words: 463
Summary:
Born on the day of her mother’s death, Claire Limye Lanme’s birthday was always seen as a day of death for those who cared enough to notice. Every year on her birthday, someone would die and it didn’t have to be anyone that she knew. It first begins with Claire being seven years old and a fisherman ends up dying while on a boat doing him job, leaving his wife a widow. Next is her sixth birthday where an undertaker becomes mayor of her town. This is also where Claire’s father, Nozias, begins talking to the local fabric shop owner about adopting his daughter. He needs the fabric shop owner to adopt Claire because he and Claire live a sad and poor life and he needs to leave his town to find wealth. He’s been trying to convince the shop owner for years since he is Claire's closest relative. It then goes on to tell the story about the fabric shop owner’s daughter death in a freak car accident on. It’s continues on to talk about the da of Claire’s seventh birthday and all of her father preparations for the day. There is then a new chapter that just talks about the fabric shop owners life story and background.
Critical Analysis:
The author does a great job in using literary techniques through the beginning of the book to display the scenes to the audience. For example, for every one of Claire’s birthdays, Novias gets her fitted for this one pink dress is that looks the same every year. He describes in a way that capture the reader and helps us understand it. Danticat uses a lot of imagery to integrate certain pieces of nature or people. She finds ways to capture the reader's attention by using their imagination to her advantage and make readers think more about sections of the article.
Personal Response:
I honestly enjoying reading this book. I like how it’s in a third person point of view because it helps me feel like I can better see and understand the characters and their goals and personalities.I feel like it had the right amount of unexpected twists and drama just in the first chapter and a half. I understands the struggles that many Haitians go through daily but I truly wasn’t expecting Nozias to give his daughter away with it asking her, just to search for a unsure better life. That seems to be the saddest parts of this book so far. Already in the beginning, the novel is starting out sad but it seems like it will begin to get more interesting in the later chapter judging on what I’ve seen so far.

Claire of The Sea Light
Edwidge Danticat
Pages Read: 1-46
Word Count: 400
Summary
On Claire Limye Lanme Faustin seven birthday, her father Nozias decided that he will send Claire away to have a better life. Claire never knew her mother who dies during childbirth, due to losing his wife, Nozias, Claire father wasn't really close to her since Claire looks like her mother and when he saw her, it reminded him of his dead wife. During most of Claire's birthday, she usually spent them with her dad family members since he was always away during it and always told her that he was doing it for her and to make a better life for them. When Claire turned six, her father tries to give her to a fabric vendor, When the fabric vendor asked Claire's father why he wants to make his child his servant, Claire father reason is because his relatives and his dead wife's relatives were poorer than he was and that if he died, he wants to make sure that Claire have a future and a better life. On her seventh birthday, the day when she was being picked up by Gaelle Cadet Lavaud, Claire disappears after hearing her father and the lady talking about her.
Critical Analysis
Danticat uses a lot of time segment, jumping from the past to the present to foreshadow the event that happened when Claire turned seven. This foreshadowing can be seen on page 4, "so her birthday was also a day of death, and the freak wave and the dead fisherman proved that it had never ceased to ber.'' This foreshadows what happened on her seventh birthday because all the bad things always happened during her birthday. Also because when Claire disappeared her father and her neighbors thought she was at the beach but when they check she wasn't there.
Personal Response
I love this book, at the beginning of the book I didn't really like one of the main characters because I thought that Claire father was acted the way he did for selfish reasons and he got me mad but as I continue reading it I understand that he was only trying to secure Claire future, even though he went the wrong way of doing it. Another reason why I like this book is that at the beginning it started really slow, one wouldn't know what happened to the main character but could make a prediction and not everything was given to the readers right away.
